This book came out in 2023 edited by two Chicago historians Jacob Pomrenke and David J. Fletcher. The book sheds light on the transcripts of the 1924 case between Shoeless Joe Jackson vs the Chicago White Sox for his back pay. The transcripts were believed lost until they were discovered. An attorney had put them away in the 1950s when they were to have been disposed of.
It should be an interesting read for those of you who are interested in the black Sox scandal and its aftermath viz-a-viz Shoeless Joe Jackson.

Ah yes, the Nickels and their unusual crushes on contestants with the letter B
Tumblr media
Also, am I the only one who initially got confused by the "bickel" ship name? I mean, there's like 5 or 6 II characters that start with B, so if you didn't know who's involved in the ship beforehand, there's no way you wouldn't be second-guessing it too, right? But then again, I am an idiot so idk

It's mostly the fault of poor editorial practices that B&R is so heavily misaligned continuity-wise w/ the main batman book. But walk with me for a minute:
You are Damian Wayne. You are 14 years old and have had one of the worst years of your life last year. Which is saying a lot.
Your brother, one of the people you were closest to, got shot in the head and forgot who you were. Your best friend went to space for a week and came back 3/4 years older than you, taking away your previously established dynamic and leaving you to have to bond all over again w/ a new one. You may or may not have gone wayyy too far with your new superhero team, who now all hate you, because you fucked up big time*
And worst of all, when you do try to do the right thing, you end up forced to watch Alfred, a father figure to you, the only one at your birthday that year, the person who has been so patient, loving and trusting with you, even when you probably didnt deserve it...die. you watch him die, and feel it's all your fault.
And your dad never corrects you on that last point. So you run away.
First to your mom who can tell something's up with you, she knows you don't give up that easy, you decide not to stay with her because you remembered how actually, neither of your parents are good at communicating with you despite their best efforts, so now you're 14 and flying solo.
And you do fly solo. For a while. Make new friends, new enemies. You think you're better off for it. You've got your best friend and your brother back. They're not around as much. It's fine.
And eventually your dad tells you that it's not your fault that Alfred died. Bit late but it's appreciated. Really. There's a bit of a hiccup where you get possessed by a demon and wage war against your father but after that, all in all, you two are...together again.
You start to think maybe you want to give him another chance, for the two of you to be father and son.
And in a change of pace, it works out! It's going good, mostly. He insists you go to highschool, you resist, feel like he wants you to be something that you're not (wants you to be normal), but eventually you acquiesce for your own reasons. He cheers you on at soccer and nosies around at your fundraising events with the other parents and gives you a stern talking to about your choice of girlfriend. Because he cares.
Except all the while this is going on, your dad is currently having his brain slowly taken over by an evil version of himself that he created and every time you look away he's slowly tearing your family apart (your brothers are just barely keeping it together. The ones who didn't get lobotmized that is Jesus Christ). You keep taking his side in these conflicts, for whatever reason. Maybe because he promised it would be different this time, and it isn't** and you're going to stick with him until he keeps his word for once.
But at the end of the day?
It's like your brother says. You're not the one who saves him. Broadly speaking, you've made things worse and needed others to come save you. And what else is Robin really for? You thought it was about redemption and teamwork but guess you're wrong. It's about saving your self destructive, apparently two-faced and erratic father. And you can't even do that right.

* TT (2016) by Adam Glass is a racist ooc mess, but unfortunately it's still canon so I'm referencing here, though like a lot of works authors clearly wish weren't canon but are, it's been subsequently glossed over. Win? Maybe? Or not?
** again Zdarky's characterization of Damian is so outdated as to be ooc, and considering the way he constantly and explicitly uses it to illustrate Tim's strengths as robin, I'd argue there's. Also implications there. But the batshit insanity of the main batbook compared to B&R rn is crucial for this post, so I'm attempting to justify it. This time..

Housekeeping Updates!
So just in case you don't know Meta has made the decision to start scraping everything anyone posts to their new AI. There isn't really a way to opt out either. In some countries you can lodge a formal complaint, but even that doesn't mean your photos or art won't be used despite your wishes.
In a twist no one could have seen coming (sarcasm)... people are leaving or deleting their work. Many artists are going to Cara, an app that is still in Beta mode. I opened an account there as well but am unsure yet if I will post regularly to. I will most likely post my 'official portfolio' there but I don't know if there will be people who aren't artists on the site. So as an art venture it would be great... but on the hopes of connecting with my existing audience? To be seen or shared to people who might commission me? The odds aren't so good.
Lots of decisions to make I'm afraid. At the moment I will be posting my regular content here on Tumblr and to my Patreon (I've had it for years but wasn't using it actively, shout out to the two people who stayed following me over there, you're the coolest). But I won't be posting regularly to Instagram like I was. In fact I've decided to actively delete most of my art from Instagram. And since I can't count on Tumblr to house and categorize and find all that work from over the past four years I've decided to effectively use Patreon as my Archive.
All day I've been copying over my old posts to Patreon, and setting them up in a schedule so they will post once a day for... a very long time. I've barely moved a 100 redesign posts over and I'm into February next year... it's a slow and slightly monotonous process but I think it will be worth it! So if you want to relive my original redesigns on a daily basis they are over at my Patreon. I've set nearly all of them to "all members" so you don't have to be on the paid tier to see them. Only some the oldest/first draft redesigns and some behind the scene screenshots will be for my 'Support System' <3
I am looking into glazing and what not but they have to reply to a DM? or something odd like that so I'm looking at various options while I figure things out. Will this crush my tiny art business? Maybe. Will I do this in protest anyway? Yeah. F Meta. (Holds in tirade about the state of megacorporations owning our data)
TLDR: Meta wants everybody to feed their ai for free, I'm removing posts from IG and archiving them onto my Patreon for all members. I'm still going to be posting on tumblr.

I feel like we don’t talk about Jason in his first few months at the manor enough
I don’t know how to describe it other than - a poor individual suddenly in a massive mansion with everything they could ever want - BUT fear of losing it all. Fear that it’s all too good to be true, that he could be sent back to the streets at any moment. A poverty mindset so he:
- hides leftovers in his room. He can’t fathom waisting food.
- Playing off of that, he’s too scared to go down to the kitchen in the middle of the night when he’s hungry - another reason he hoards leftovers in his room. He’s terrified that he’d get in trouble for eating something outside of mealtime. He won’t even take a snack from the kitchen in the middle of the day. He just eats leftovers from his food stash.
- Bruce gives him an allowance. And he saves a good chunk of, if not all of it, under a floorboard. Or in a box hidden in his closet. He doesn’t want the money to disappear, doesn’t want anyone to take it from him.
- Alfred takes him to the toy store? He looks for sales. Looks for the cheap stuff. He doesn’t want to spend a lot of money.
- The first time he gets sick, he just stays in his room and acts like it’s nothing. When he’s given medicine and taken to the doctor he’s shocked and a bit nervous. He’d never been to a doctor before. And why does medicine taste so nasty?
- What do you mean he has to go to school? All seven days of the week? For the entire day? He can join sports and clubs? But wouldn’t he have to pay for gear/supplies?
- He’s scared to open up at first. He doesn’t trust adults.
Bruce and Alfred have to sit down and have a long talk with him. Reassure him that he’ll never go back to his old life. That he’s safe here. That he’s loved here. He’ll never go hungry, never have to worry about food or money ever again. He can go to school, participate in clubs, whatever he wants to do.
And Jason cries.
After that everything changes. He becomes a goofball. He buys the things he wants. He doesn’t hoard food anymore (which makes Alfred so happy, he doesn’t have to clean up moldy food or have to worry about bugs or mice anymore. He develops a love for reading and goes to the bookstore weekly. He loves helping Alfred in the kitchen, and develops a special bond with him. And he opens up, if only a little bit.

THE ART OF FIELDING x AUSTON MATTHEWS
This formed the paradox at the heart of baseball, or football, or any other sport. You loved it because you considered it an art: an apparently pointless affair, undertaken by people with special aptitude, which sidestepped attempts to paraphrase its value yet somehow seemed to communicate something true or even crucial about The Human Condition. The Human Condition being, basically, that we're alive and have access to beauty, can even erratically create it, but will someday be dead and will not.
