So I got the new Pokemon DLC for Christmas and I’m on a big Pokemon kick currently so I’m going to give a gift to my fellow Pokémon lovers. Now I’m more well known for Yandere work but I also do love doing more soft romantic stuff. It heals my traumatised self. So I’ve decided to go through all Pokémon games I’ve played and write romantic and yandere sfw+slight Nsfw headcannons for every character I personally like. Ah the original silent protagonist. I love this man so much, even more after his cameo is Sun and Moon. I’m not sure what it is about him but he has this strange allure to him, although I doubt that’s a unique opinion on silent characters. Anyway, onto the headcannons.

This is almost a given with the silent types but I feel like he is an amazing listener, only ever nodding to show he’s still listening or giving small “mhms”

Plot summary: Though a loyal son to your father and his plans, you had began to notice the dark consequences for his actions, and eventually help in the downfall of his mission. When team aqua is disbanded, not everyone is willing to forgive you for your crimes. Only Barry, the boy who pulled you from the darkness, is able to see the changes you've undergone, and he is determined to help the rest of world see that too.

Growing up, you not only had your father caring for you, but also the rest of his main team too. They were as much family as Archie was, and you loved them all as they loved you.

So when your father wanted to awaken the legendary Pokémon Kyogre, you were easily on board.

You were his second in command, and by far one of his more diligent lieutenants. A skilled pokemon trainer with strong dragon types, and an efficient member of Team Aqua that always completed his mission.

Of course, there were people who opposed this plan, one of them being a hyperactive boy named Barry. A sinnohnite visiting the hoenn region and helping to put an end at the chaos ensuing.

Originally, Barry was completely against you, seeing you as nothing more but trouble. And in truth, you weren't exactly a big fan of him either.

The two of you clashed often, him always trying to stop and you always trying to stop him from stopping you. It wasn't easy, Barry did have strong pokemon on his side, but you were smarter and more resilient, so the battle usually leaned to your favour due to Barry's rashness and headstrong approach.

If there's one thing you could applaud him for, it was his perseverance. Even when you beat him, that didn't stop Barry from trying again, and again, and again. He'd simply get back on his feet and run at you at full speed.

You and Barry's interactions only ever happened like at, with him rushing at you to battle and both of you clashing it out. That's all there was. At first.

But as time went on, you began to show doubts in Archie's plan. I mean... He literally wanted to WRESTLE KYOGRE?! At first it sounded cool but....now that you put more thought into it rather then blind devotion, you came to realize it wasn't nearly as black and white as it seemed.

But Archie was stubborn, really stubborn. At first, you tried to subtly imply that perhaps this wasn't such a good idea, but it never seemed to register in his head. He'd simply laugh at your hints, tossing an arm around you and proclaiming that "your old man's got it all under control!"

And you love your dad, so you complied nonetheless. At first.

Losing to you really hurt Barry's ego. Again and again, he was never able to trump you. But as time progressed, he realized his headstrong approaches weren't working. From his humility, he learned to be more patient, less rash, and less impulsive. Mostly.

But while Barry began to thrive, you began to crumble. You felt conflicted, guilty and unsure. You knew what you were doing was wrong... But, your dad. You didn't want to let him down. He couldn't realize just how dangerous his mission had become. And it was tearing you apart.

You're not on your A-Game anymore. You actually begin losing to Barry, and your part in Archie's plans became stagnant. Maybe it was a subconscious thing, your mind trying to thwart your mission. Maybe your dragon types saw how this was effecting you, their strong and beloved trainer, so they began to faint on purpose. Or maybe he had just improved since before. Either way, it was clear you weren't on track anymore. You're sure even Barry notices this.

Your loses and guilt eventually helped push you to betray your father's mission, though it wasn't without pain. The look he gave you when he saw you sabotaging his plans, confused and hurt, and so betrayed, when running away was heartbreaking...

Switching over to the good guys isn't an easy transition at all. Nobody trusts you, and rightfully so. Funnily enough, it's Barry that trusts you the quickest -- well, it still took a bit of time, but considering many others weren't budging, yeah he was the fastest.

At first, he didn't believe you at all when you said you wanted to help, thinking this was just another ploy by Team Aqua. But as you proved yourself to everyone, working hard and taking down other Aqua grunts with and even for them, Barry began to believe what you said.

He went from being the first one to accuse you of doing bad things, to the first one defending you when others believed you were still doing bad things. It's such a quick change, it surprises enough -- especially when they all thought he hated you the most. A genuine relationship had formed between the both of you. A deep understanding.

In the end, Kyogre and Groudon are quelled by Rayquaza thanks to May/Brendan. Archie came to regret his choices by then, having realized far too late just the magnitude of what he'd done and what else would've came. When he sees you his first instinct is to charge straight ahead and hug you with enough pressure to almost crush a rock. He's tearing up and apologizing profusely for what his actions, and hopes you'll forgive him. Archie is especially surprised with your new relationship with Barry, and does through some heat his way initially. But he warms up to him, if only for you.

Since this incident, not many people see you favorably, even if you did help. Those you worked closely with have come to forgive you, the general public haven't. So Barry's taken it upon himself to change this nasty image you had. You've changed, he knows you have, and he's gonna make everyone see it. It takes years of hard work and equal dedication to change this perspective to everyone, but it eventually does work. Mostly. There are still some out there who haven't forgiven you and there's no changing that, but you're no longer getting as many nasty stares or hearing as much gossip about you anymore. And you have Barry to thank for that, which he will gladly take praise for *ahem*

In this time, you and Barry have only grown closer together. It's funny how you two started out as enemies and ended up with something so much more. You are both two peas in a pod, knowing each other like the back of your hand.

You and Barry eventually became dual gym leaders together. It had been in the works for awhile now, but you didn't want to open it until the general public had grown to trust you. This was especially hard as Barry was always pestering you to open the gym already, a bit of his impatient past shining through. When it does become official however, it's a time for celebration! All your friends, families, and pokemon gather together to celebrate this new endeavor for you two. A new beginning.

Archie is especially proud, swinging an arm around your shoulder and loudly shouting "THAT'S MY BOY". You can definitely see some proud tears at the corners of his eyes.

Platonic:

Though the start was rocky, you and Barry have forged an unbreakable bond together. Akin to brothers. He has your back and you have his, and neither of you plan to ever change that. As a result of this friendship, I could see Archie becoming more fatherly Barry and vice verse for Barry's dad, Palmer.

While you're both the best of friends, you're also each other's biggest rivals. It isn't uncommon to see one competing against the other, usually Barry. It's never anything truly serious, though Barry may make it so, but none of it will ever shatter the bond you both have.

You both are like brothers at the end of the day, a bond built from

At some point, the feelings you and Barry have for each other deepen into something more. You're not sure when or why, but they do, and it feels good... it feels right.

Barry is real flustered and even a bit shy at times, and may come off as a bit of a tsundere here and there. Demands to hold your hand or else you'll owe him a million dollars!! He's kidding, he's kidding-

You're often the one who does the teasing in the relationship, with Barry usually helpless to your teases. It's cute, watching him get all red face.

If you two ever have a wedding, Archie is going to be so proud... and loud... and sobbing. He'll grab the nearest man, woman, or person in between and yell with the most prideful voice ever "THAT'S MY SON THERE!!". Everyone else who served under will definitely join his cheers.

Overall, romantic life with Barry will remain relatively the same. Yet, there's something new there now. Something to explore your bond deeper. A happy ending, for a new beginning.

Having an s/o with strong opinions (HCs)

Barry

Barry doesn’t really like that you have overly strong opinions on everything. It’s not that he doesn’t want you to have your own opinions; in fact, he thinks that’s good, but sometimes, he just wishes you wouldn’t start a fight over things like the worst multiple of 3, especially since he doesn’t really understand why that’s such an important topic.

Since he’s pretty impatient and often acts like he doesn’t have the time to have a proper discussion about the stuff that’s on your mind, you frequently get into arguments. Barry doesn’t want you to feel like he doesn’t care about the things you’re thinking about but in his opinion, there are more important things to focus on while you insist that it’s just as important to express your opinions.

He doesn’t mind listening to your rambling – as long as it doesn’t grow out of perspective. Like, he’s far too impatient to sit there for hours and discuss the awful design of Cherish Balls, so he will probably start to wriggle about on his chair after an hour.

However, he loves that you can stand up for yourself and don’t hesitate to speak your mind, no matter what it’s about. He just prefers when you have the discussions with someone else, not with him, because a) he’s too impatient to do that all the time and b) it’s so funny when you talk somebody into the ground about stuff that people usually don’t even think about.

Silver

Whenever you approach him to discuss something, Silver already knows that it’s going to be a quite exhausting conversation. He’s not particularly fond of arguing about trivialities; he prefers to discuss the real and important stuff but because he loves and respects you, he will listen to you nevertheless.

Most of the time, he doesn’t say a whole lot when you start to ramble about stuff like the uselessness of some attacks and why some trainers keep using them over and over and just agrees or disagrees with you from time to time. It’s not that he’s not interested in your opinions; it’s more the fact that he doesn’t want to interrupt you and mostly also doesn’t know what to reply without upsetting you in the process.

Whenever you start a fight with someone about your opinions or even challenge them to a battle, Silver just shakes his head but he can’t help but smile when he sees you defending your opinions with a burning passion. It just shows that you’re serious about the things you say and that’s something he really loves about you.

Although he doesn’t really like to discuss anything and everything, he can’t help but provoke you a bit sometimes. He doesn’t want to start a fight or anything like that but there’s something about you when you start to ramble about your opinions on that certain topic that makes him fall in love with you even more. Maybe it’s the look in your eyes or just the fact that you don’t hesitate to voice your opinions but that’s definitely something Silver finds very attractive about you.

Bede

Bede has a pretty strong personality himself, so the fact that you’re not afraid to stand up for your opinion (no matter how trivial the topic might seem) is what initially caught his attention. It’s just something that makes you interesting, especially since it kinda reminds him of himself.

Most of the time, the two of you get along pretty well. Bede knows that you have pretty strong opinions on everything and therefore doesn’t discuss with you a whole lot (you actually agree on most things) but sometimes, he also gets annoyed by the fact that you just can’t let things be. He doesn’t have a whole lot of patience, so it’s not rare that you get into an argument because both of you try to maintain your opinions while also trying to convince the other that this is the only valid viewpoint.

However, Bede isn’t someone to argue over trivialities. Yes, he might be a bit belligerent but that doesn’t mean that he particularly likes to fight with his partner, so usually, he just nods and lets you rant about the worst multiple of 3 or the fact that coriander tastes like soap without interrupting you.

One thing that really amuses him (although he surely wouldn’t admit it) is when a stranger gets into a discussion with you. He can’t really say why but there’s always something funny about their reactions, be it the look of utter confusion on their faces or their almost desperate attempts to get out of the conversation. The fact that they have no idea what they’ve gotten themselves into never fails to make Bede chuckle, especially when they look at him in the middle of the conversation like they expect him to help them.

You were running around in the forest laughing along with your (P/O/C), when you ran into a boy and his pikachu. You groaned, rubbing your behind from the hard impact.

"Hey! Watch where your going!" The boy yelled, fixing his cap.

"I'm sorry! I didn't think anyone would be in this part of the forest." You stood up and stretched your sore muscles. Once making sure (P/O/C) was alright, you turned to the boy and his friends with a smile, "My names (Y/N), (Y/n) (L/N)."

The boy smiled at your kindness,  "Hi! I'm Ash Ketchum and this is my buddy Pikachu." He introduced as Pikachu gave a 'pika'. His two friends, a red head and a taller boy, looked as though they were gonna say hi but were cut off by this Ah Ketchum boy; "I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to snap like that." He scratched his cheek.

You shook your head, "No worries. I don't blame you. I'm sorry but I gotta go now." You turned around on your heel, "Bye guys!" You waved with (P/O/C) not too far behind you.

"She seems nice." Misty commented.

"Yeah. It's too bad she had to leave so soon though." Brock adds.

"I wonder if I'll ever get to meet her again." Ash smiles looking off in the direction you ran off in.

Brock

Today you were at a local Pokemon centre waiting for your best buddy, (P/O/C). It wasnt long before they came out with Nurse Joy leading the way. You got up and ran over to the duo with a smile, "You're okay-!"

"Nurse Joy! You're so beautiful I could melt away!" A boy around your age jumped in between you and the nurse.

You snorted at the boys love sick performance. You peeked over his shoulder and made eye contact with (P/O/C). "There you are!" You pushed passed the boy and grave your dear friend a hug.

"Woah." The boy sighed in astonishment. Suddenly instead of (P/O/C) in front of you, you were met with the eyes of the boy from just a moment before. "You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen." He held your hands.

"Oh!" You blushed, "Thank you." You smiled.

"Come on Brock!" A little boy in glasses dragged the boy away from you.

"Let's meet again someday!" 'Brock' called out to you.

James

You stood off to the side as you watched your best friend (BFF/N) and a girl with long violet red hair argue over who should get the wild Eevee that kind of just came out of nowhere.

"Hurry it up Jessie or its gonna get away!" A man with blue hair shouted. He wore an all white outfit, paired with black gloves that match with his boots, a belt, and an undershirt. Not to mention the huge red R on his shirt.

"Come on (BFF/N)! If your not gonna catch it, I'll get it!" You pulled out your pokeballl and out came a (P/O/C).

"No! (Y/n) I'll get it!" Your friend pulled out her own pokeball and out came her Pokemon.

"I don't understand why I don't just ditch you already." You sighed which (P/O/C) nodded along too.

"Sometimes I wonder the same thing with Jessie." The boy beside you sighed. You glanced at the guy who was now standing right beside you. You gulped. He was... actually quite cute.

"Do you, um," You coughed, "...do you want a rice ball?" You held out your lunchbox. The mystery man happily grabbed the offered food.

"Where I come from, they call these jelly filled donuts." He took a bite, "Pretty funny if you ask me." You guys shared a laugh. He caught your eyes, "Thank you. It was delicious."

Quickly, you felt your heart pounding and your face heating up, "No...no problem!" You smiled.

Butch

Walking to the nearest restaurant you can find, you kept conversation with your little (P/O/C); "The ice cream in this place is supposed to be really good. They even have specially made ice cream for Pokemon! Isn't that cool?" You smiled down at your little buddy.

They nodded and made a little noise, which you can only assume meant some form of agreement.

Right as you entered the place, you were behind two people in dark coats. It was... a little intimidating if we're being honest.

"U-um," You stuttered out, the two turned to you, "if you're done ordering... I'd like a turn please." You shyly pointed at the counter.

The girl huffed, "alright. We were done anyways," she turned around, "Biff, bring our order when it's ready." She stalked off to a back table.

"It's Butch!" He called out aggravated.

He stepped aside to let you order.

The employee, who seemed a little suspicious, came back with all three orders; one for the duo, one for you, and one for your pokemon. The green haired man grabbed his order and was about to walk away when he noticed how you quickly retreated your hands from your sundaes. He rolled his eyes and sighed, "Here," he gently pushed you aside, "I got it." He grabbed tray to carry all your orders on.

"Thank you." You nodded.

"Hm," He hummed, staring down at you with his dark shades, "where are you sitting?"

Ritchie

"(P/O/C), can you set up the blanket over there please? Thank you." You smiled.

"And (P/O/C), can you carry this basket please. I'm afraid it's too heavy for me." You blushed sheepishly as another one of your pokemon carried the basket to where the other was.

"I'm sorry for having you guys do all this work for me. I'll give you guys some extra yummy food to make up for it, okay?" You got up from the river having just filtered your water to keep fresh and healthy for the remainder of your trip to the nearest town possible.

"Wow! This all looks great!" Someone shouted. You looked across the river and saw a boy about your age with a Pikachu on his shoulder. aww how cute! The pikachu had a little tuff of furr on his head!

"Sorry I didn't mean to disturb you. Its just that I saw some Pokemon and wanted to catch them but it looks like they are yours." He scratched his head.

"Oh no worries you didn't disturb me at all! Would you like to have lunch with us?" You gestured to all the food.

"If you don't mind." He smiled. The boy began to look around, "their must be a way over somehow." He spoke out loud. You stood up and quickly ran to a bush.

"Here!" You called out, "a bunch of kids from a small nearby village have things like these everywhere," the kid watched you pull out a long and sturdy plank of wood, "it's pretty convenient." You placed the plank over the river.

"Well I'd say!" He laughed. Him and his pikachu made it over the little makeshift bridge safely and quickly. "My names Ritchie." He held out his hand.

"(Y/N)." You shook his hand.

Gary

You sat in a burger restaurant eating your order with your little buddy, (P/O/C), sat across from you eating their pokepuff. A bell chimed signalling someone came into the restaurant. You curiously looked up and saw a boy around your age with a lot of teenage girls following behind him to the counter.

"Hey dude, check it out. Rich kid in a place like this? Seems weird don't you think?" You whispered to (P/O/C) as he cutely looked over the seat.

"Alright girls. Let's eat at this big table over here." The boy and his cheerleaders all walked over to a big table. Which was beside yours.

"Hey," You whispered to (P/O/C). He looked up at your from his pokepuff, icing bits on his furr.

"Let's get going." You whispered once more. You were about to get up when the boy from the other table stepped in front of you cautiously-trying not to be rude but eh, it's Gary.

"Excuse me miss. But I was wondering if I could get your name. I've seen you somewhere before but I just can't get my finger on who you are." He looked at you in thought.

You looked back down at your little companion, exchanging a similar thought on if you should tell him who you are. 'Mom always said don't talk to strangers.'

"(Y/N) Ketchum." So much for stranger danger. "I gotta go now, sorry. Bye." You walked passed the boy.

"She's a Ketchum!?" The boy exclaimed which startled his cheer squad.

Barry

"Alright so if this equals that then that mean this should be...ah!" You friend screamed as theywas trying to figure out a math problem. They want to be a pokemon scientist one day and math is often involved in science so they have to learn both subjects and be excellent at them.

"Um, (BFF/N), is there anything I can do to-eh!" You got cut off.

"You can help by shutting up! The math I was just trying to figure out! Ugh! It's left my brain forever!" She face cried.

"Ehh! I'm sorry!" You then got up to go grab yourselves some ice cream across the street to calm you both down.

"Ah!" You yelped as you were tackled to the ground.

"Ah! I'm late! I'm late! Hey stay out of my way-whoa..." You looked up and saw a blonde boy with orange eyes staring at you in awe. You could have sworn you seen him somewhere before.

"I'm sorry. I guess I should watch were I'm going." You groaned as you got up. The boy gulped and stood up quickly, a noticing pink hue dusting his face.

"Huh. Oh no! It's ok! I'm Barry by the way." Barry held out his hand. You grabbed it and stood up.

"Barry? Oh I've seen you on TV." You smile excitedly. You had to admit, watching the pokemon league on TV was quite fun. Especially whenever Barry was battling. He was just so cute! Of course you had a crush on him!

"Woah! Really?" His eyes lit up.

"Yeah! You lost 2 rounds in!" You mindlessly say.

"ugh." Barry falls to the ground.

"Barry?"

You watched a boy your age with purple hair battle against your friend Ash with ease.

"Is that all? I should have expected at least a little bit of a challenge. Shame on me for thinking the weakest trainer can put up a fight with pokemon like that." He insulted.

"C'mon Ash! We're wasting our time! Let's just go." You heard your friend Dawn say. Ash looked like he was gonna get into a nasty fight with this 'Paul' guy. You took this as your cue to get going on your own solo adventure-seeing as you didn't travel with them or anyone else.

Your eyes casted to the boy who seemed to have too little patience in the world. "What are you looking at?" The purple haired boy glared at you-if it could somehow get even more harsh. It seemed he had a constant glare on his face.

"Hm. Oh! Um... nothing!" You stuttered out with a heavy blush, "Hey...Hey lets go Togepi." You turned around as your Togepi followed with his cute little 'Togepiiii'.

"What is that thing? It looks so... useless." Paul pulled out his Pokedex.

His comment caused you to turn around. He was too busy engrossed in his pokedex and trying to drown out Ash, Dawn, and Brock's voices. You hesitated but walked back to the boy so you were face to face.

"It's.. a Togepi." You said almost a little too quietly. Paul had just barely heard you. "and it's cute. And kind of scary." You looked down at the little guy running in circles chasing some butterfly pokemon.

"Sure it is." Paul rolled his eyes. "Do you have any other pokemon?" He crossed his arms.

"No." You shook your head.

"That's probably why." He pointed at Togepi before walking away without another word.

Trip

You walked around a city looking at all the cool colours, buildings, Pokemon shops, restaurants and all that other stuff. Your eyes sparkled up at everything you saw.

"Wow! Hey look at this (P/O/C)! Everything's so bright and beautiful and shiny!" You ran around some more, your pokemon right behind you, looking at everything in awe just like you.

Click!

You turned at the sound and saw a boy your age with a camera, facing a cute little cafe. You made eye contact and smiled, "What are you doing?"

The dirty blonde haired boy glanced at you, "Documenting my journey." He puts his camera away, "what are you doing?" He returned the question. He had probably expected you to take some hint and to leave him alone to his business but unfortunately for him, (Y/N) doesnt really work like that.

"I'm here for my next contest." Suddenly you had a bright idea, "if you don't mind, will you come watch?"

He blinked, "What? Why?" He looked almost offended by it. Like why would some random person just come along and ask him to take time away from his day to do that?

"So I can show my mom back home! We don't really have a tv to watch these things. Please! Just one picture! That's all I ask!" You beg.

"What's in it for me? I'm not just gonna do this for free you know-"

"I'll pay for your dinner tomorrow!"

He placed a hand on his hip, now smirking, "and with what money?"

"When I win the contest tomorrow, duh." You smiled.

The boy rolled his eyes, "Fine. Come find me at the pokemon center tomorrow. Then you can get your picture."

Pairing: Barry Allen x Male Reader trainer Hero

A/N: Inspired by 6rookie-writer0110. The Reader introduces his boyfriend to his partner Pokémon.

“Pikachu, this is my boyfriend, Barry Allen. Barry, this is Pikachu.” Y/N introduced. The two most important people in Y/N’s life were finally getting to meet for the very first time.

Barry looked at the creature that resembled a giant mouse, perched on two legs on Y/N’s shoulders. It had fluffy yellow fur mixed with a bit of brown and black-tipped ears, red cheeks and for some odd reason, a detective hat was on top of its head. The creature called Pikachu looked Barry up and down with its soft brown eyes. Barry's seen the impossible, hell, he was the impossible, but this was something else entirely.

The hero of Central City gave a shy wave. “Hello, there, Pikachu. It's nice to finally meet you.” Barry was no stranger when it came to Pokemon, his first partner had been a Squirtle when the game first came out when he was seven years old, but Pokémon have only ever been fictional here on his Earth. Just in games, movies, and manga. Apparently, that wasn't the case on Y/N’s Earth, as they were very much real and prominent. Now, that they were all on one Earth, it seemed Pokemon were here as well.

Pikachu eyed Barry once again and turned to look at Y/N. Barry expected ‘Pika, Pika,’ noises to come from him, but imagine his shock and surprise as he heard the Pokemon speak in clear, English language. “Kid, you've been telling me about your boyfriend for weeks now, and you said he was cute and handsome.” Barry wasn't sure if he should be insulted or not. A Pokemon just made a comment on how he wasn't cute or handsome enough.

Y/N rolled his eyes. “He is cute, Pikachu.”

“Yeah, he is cute in a babyface sort of way. If you're into that sort of thing, but he's no Ryan Gosling, or Grant Gustin for that matter,” Pikachu said.

Y/N rolled his eyes again at his Pokémon’s rude attitude. “I think what Pikachu meant to say, Barry was, ‘It’s really nice to meet you too, Barry. You’re as handsome as Y/N said you were.’”

Pikachu rolled his eyes as well. “Whatever floats your boat, kid.” He got off Y/N’s shoulders and began to walk around on the floor as he looked up at Barry expectantly. “Know any good places where a Pokémon can get a cup of coffee?”

“Oh, umm… well…” Barry looked at Y/N. “We could always take him to CC Jitters for some coffee if you want, Y/N?”

“That’s okay, Barry. The last thing Pikachu needs is coffee right now. It makes him hyperactive.”

“That’s not true, kid. It doesn’t make me hyperactive and I can quit anytime that I want,” Pikachu protested.

“Oh, yeah, then start right now,” Y/N challenged.

“I said anytime I want.”

Barry chuckled at their cute banter. They were adorable when they argued. Like siblings. “Come on, let’s go to Jitters. My treat.” Pikachu’s eyes lighten up at that. He jumped on Barry’s shoulders as he looked at his trainer. “Yeah, sounds good. Then you can tell me more about yourself, Sebastian.”

“Barry.” Barry corrected.

“That’s what I said,” Pikachu told him as he tried to steer Barry towards the door. Barry helplessly went to where Pikachu wanted him to go as he looked at Y/N. “You coming, kid?” Pikachu asked.

Y/N looked at them for a moment before declaring how cute they looked together. He smiled. “Yeah, I’m coming.” They all walk out of Barry’s apartment together as they head towards Jitters.

The Centuries Between Us [ Prologue]

Summary: A steaming Barry hikes up Mt. Cornet in search of his best friend and reigning champion of the Sinnoh Region after two days of radio silence.

“Ugh, wait until I get my hands on them. I am so going to fine them a million Poke dollars!” Shouted Barry rigorously, thrusting his fist at the sky. Trekking through the rigid terrain he recalled making this same trek nearly five years ago. Even now the winds howled ominously echoing all around making him swear it sounded just like a Mightyena. Except he knew they weren’t native to the Sinnoh region. Hell, he couldn’t even see his hand in front of his face.

Last time when he checked his Poketch it had clearly stated that the weather was clear then lo and behold a freak storm dive bombed him in the middle of his journey. Now he was being pelted by the unrelenting blizzard that had consumed the higher parts of Mt. Cornet.

Each step followed by each breath burned, causing him to wonder how he hadn’t noticed it back then. In all that frenzy it was as though his mind had overridden acknowledging how grueling the climb was. The harsh climate only seemed to grow, the icy wind biting at his exposed skin all the way down to his bone. As if it was trying to freeze him solid.

Forging through squinting through the rapid onslaught of flurries was the outline of a half oval. Using one of his arms to guard his face from the chaotic weather he closed the distance. Only when he was a few inches away did he make out the tunnel entrance into the cave. Falling to his hands and feet panting heavily, Barry managed to prop himself against the cavern’s wall.

His mouth impossibly dry as the worst-case scenario flashed behind his eyes. As more time dragged on the more on edge he felt. The thought alone revitalized him no matter what he wouldn’t let it come to pass. Not again.

Slipping out his phone, glancing at the corner of the screen only to be welcomed with the sight of the nonexistent cell service. Pressing a hand into his face he breathed out the hundredth groan of that day. It had to be karma for overdoing it the previous day causing him to zonk out for an entire day. All in the name of his pursuit to prepare for the day he’s only ever dreamed of as a small child.

In a few days he’d finally get to his summit to finally battle his father to show him how far he got without him. Shoving those thoughts away he tapped on the messaging app going into the top thread of messages exchanged between him and his best friend:

[Wednesday 12:00 P.M.]

ReigningChamp: Oi Barry just to let you know I am going up to Mt. Cornet. [12:01 P.M.] Debtcollector: Wait what you're going there?! Hold the phone. Who do I need to fine Gazillion poke dollars! [12:01 P.M.] ReigningChamp: Lol geez it’s fine, no one needs to be put into debt. I’ll be fine. We aren’t kids anymore. [12:03 P.M.] Debtcollector: Still why go there I know…that there isn’t anything worth doing up there? [12:03 P.M.] ReigningChamp: Well I have champion duties up there. [12:04 P.M.] Debtcollector: Then make that oversized Pom Pom do it they need to earn keep some how. It’s not just your job to investigate strange occurrences. [12:05 P.M.] ReigningChamp: Ha ha don’t be like that you know Flint, once he’s on a walk about it’s hard tracking him down. [12:05 P.M.] ReigningChamp: Lucas and Volkner detected some ‘Disturbing wavelengths’ but the readings were sporadic. So I am going to help them get clearer readings. [12:06 P.M.] Debtcollecor: There is no way I am letting you go alone. Wait for me. I’ll be there after training. [12:06 P.M.] ReigningChamp: Not a chance Barry you're finally challenging your Father. Focus on that. I'll see ya in two days. [12:11 P.M.] Debtcollector: Ugh fine. But I expect an update to show a sign of life within the hour. If not I’ll come up there and fine your ass. [12:12 P.M.] ReigningChamp: Okay. Okay. Okay, you worrywart. I’ll text you so now go back to focusing unless you want me to see an epic flop against your father. [12:12 P.M.] Debtcollector: Ha ha I ain’t going to flop I am going to show him! [17:00 P.M.] Debtcollector: Hey finished training, how's it going up there? Other than an overabundance of Geodude? [21:00 P.M.] Debtcollector: Okay settling in for the night. So are you getting any clear readings on the ‘Disturbing waves’? Why are they disturbing anyway? [21:29 P.M] Debtcollector: Can’t tell if you're trying to focus or force me to give up through silence but it isn’t funny.

[Today 7:00 A.M.]

Debtcollector: Hey it’s me you didn’t come down like you said. [8:30 A.M.] Debtcollector: I don’t know if you saw this but I am coming up there you space cadet. I’m fining you for life for ignoring me!!!

Nothing had changed, not that there was any way for him to check for changes. He knew she wasn't as talkative as him but his texts were never left unanswered for too long. It was a silent agreement between the three of them to never let the other go up here alone. Far too much had happened for any of them to go up alone.

A day that was engraved into his memory that he’d remember for life to the tiniest of details. The day Cyrus, a crazed Pokémon Mafia leader of the organization called Team Galactic attempted to create a new world. With age came the nagging realization that one of them should have thought to call an adult.

He wondered how different it would have turned out if more authorities had been present for that monumental event. But that road and all the diverging paths were cut off. What’s done is done. Together with his friends at the tender age of twelve had diverted the end of the world as they knew.

Stuffing his phone back into his bag he stood up pushing deeper into the craggy cave speckled generously with stalactites looming over and stalagmite shaping the path to walk around. If not for his own Pokémon possessing the hidden move Flash, he was sure he’d be as blind as Zubat.

Even with the help of the HM he could only see a few feet in front of him. Sounds bounced everywhere even the sounds of the raging storms managed to still be present. Even the sounds of his feet to the sounds of dripping water. Despite being shielded from the harsh weather outside Barry felt, if possible, colder than when he was outside.

Not that he’d get lost considering he wasn’t some noob trainer and even then, he managed just fine. Chewing on his lower lip as he threaded through the rocky caverns glancing around to see if any markers had come up. Bizarrely enough he hadn’t even heard the faint cry of the native Pokémon within.

Then again, the pokemon were probably more sensitive to the aura that Spear Pillar emanated than humans were. Spotting the familiar abnormally large stone, Barry hastened his speed. As it registered in his mind just how close he was to the final cavern before the peak. Pressing onward his foot made contact in mere moments without his consent he tumbled face first into the ground.

“Arg Arceus Almighty! How the fuck did that idiot even manage to get past this Geodude sized rock!” Barry cried as Floatzel scampered towards him, giving out a small cry nudging his face.

“I know. I know. Screaming attracts Zubats I’ll hush up!” Huffed the blond maneuvering onto his knees as Floatzel let out a persistent cry tugging at his sleeve.

“I am alright Floatzel. It takes more than one fall for the man who’s about to conquer the battle tower down!” Again came the tugging as though his assurances had fallen on deaf ears. As the aquatic pokemon waved at the area ahead of them.

Exhaling deeply Barry nodded to see what the fuss was all about. Silently signaling his companion as his mouth crashed to the ground. There, digging into nearly every space imaginable was a boldar thrice the size of any Abomasnow he’s ever seen. A literal mother of all monster sized cave-ins.

Was the disturbing wavelengths connected to this somehow?

Or could a pokemon have rammed into one of the more fragile parts of the cavern?

Either way this would most certainly keep anyone from passing through and with the brutal winds outside flying was just as disastrous.

“Oh my Arceus no wonder that idiot hasn’t come down! Floatzel points Flash at the ceiling.” Glancing up, spider cracks bleed into larger fissures in the ceiling which took rock smashing his way through off the table. Not unless he wanted to get buried alive. Which would still leave his best friend possibly trapped on the other side.

“Well so much for the direct route Floatzel. Let’s find the roundabout route then get back to the pokemon center for a feast. What’d you say?” Floatzel cried out in joy.

Turning around they traced their steps back from the way they came back to the fork in the cavern they had taken. Gripping Empolion’s pokeball in his hand, readying himself for an overabundance of pokemon. He stepped through cautiously long had the days of carelessly running through pokemon infested areas had passed.

Blinking once then rearing a step back snatching up an extra heavy duty flashlight to gain a better look. Just like before the cavern was empty, the void of zubat’s and other native pokemon. The goosebumps on his arms prickled as he glanced side to side moving deeper into the open space.

His skin crawled at the sight that identically mirrored the opposing cavern Barry’s heart dropped into the deepest chasm. This Arceus damned mountain really was cursed for him and his friends. No way it was possible to have a quaint hike up with Arceus deciding it would be a shame if nothing eventful would transpire.

“Floatzel let’s hurry!” He hollered as his eyes began to sting from the cold or the realization that his best friend was screwed.

Why was getting through so much harder?

The uncertainty began to stab at his chest the closer he got the more his vision seemed to tunnel towards his goal. Even the sounds of Floatzel cry sounded like it was underwater. It was as though his body wasn’t his own. Why couldn’t she have just waited for him to join her? Why did she have to insist on going alone when that idiot always begged him or Lucas to tag along?

Why?

Why?

Tears pooling at the corner of his vision, he slammed his fist against the Arceus forsaken boldar in his path. Leaving not even a tiny opening to the other side.

“NO!”

“No! You idiot! Oh come on!”

“I can’t!”

“I can’t! I just can’t give up. You hear that Arceus no fucking boldar is going to stop Barry the man to conquer the battle tower!” He hollered, rubbing his now pulsing knuckles as snout nuzzled into his side. Blinking, he bent down hugging the water type as if his life depended on it. Floatzel didn’t seem to mind purring in return as he stole his nerves.

“Alright. We’ll either find another way or make our own way. Let’s rest for a while.” Barry murmured, sinking to his knees. Pressing a hand to his face sliding it down as he sighs deeply glancing back at the boulder. Considering the time frame, she’s been in there for over forty eight hours. Meaning the cavenins had to have occurred between the last text to now.

Being at the peak of the mountain meant they were in the area with the least amount of oxygen. Food and water could last for a while if rationed properly but the supply couldn’t be that big. There was no way to ration wood to maintain heat long enough not to freeze. The trek up here alone had taken him half the day.

If he went down for help, could he trust that idiot to keep herself and her pokemon warm. So much time had passed already, going down for back up was just as much of a big risk as finding a way on his own. The voice in his head that sounded like Lucas admonished him for being reckless and that it wasn’t necessary.

Yet thinking back to all those times where he had so brazenly taken on more than he could handle, and he thought this was it. His best friend barreled in guns blazing in some of the most ridiculous ways possible. Practically making his reckless actions look like a small baby could have done it.

That idiot may have been the most reckless human being in the universe, but it was always when another was in danger. Always for the sake of others. So he would do the same. Who knew how long they could survive on the other side of the cave in?

Leaping back into action after a few moments of patting Floatzel's head before aiming his flashlight at the cave-in to gauge the integrity. Only to find that it was in the same exact state as the cave-in on the other side of the cave.

Barry contemplated the ensuing backlash if he disregarded the possibilities of worsening the cave-in. The Worst-case scenario was his pokemon and his best friend being hurt in the aftermath. On the other hand he could actually get through if he was creative enough.

Ice beam could have done the trick of filling in all the cracks to possibly hold long enough to get through. Or it could prove to exacerbate the whole situation. Plus, none of his pokemon knew Ice Beam nor did he have the TM for it.

Running a hand through his head groaning he turned away. Heading out the cave and back outside to find the storm had let up significantly. Allowing him to see further than his own hand.

He knew what he needed to do.

Brisk winds pelted both Staraptor and Barry for a moment when he felt his winged friend wavered. A brief image flashed behind his eyes of the possible nose dive to their death. Resulting in a lethal fall for the both of them and his best friend possibly freezing to death. Clenching his chattering teeth while pressing on Staraptor he inhaled deeply.

Another onslaught came again causing a quick jolt to the left for a mere moment he felt them descend. Tightening his hold along with his resolve he yelled “Come on Staraptor we can do this together. No storm can defeat the best flier in Sinnoh!”

Releasing a battle cry of its own, Staraptor began to fly higher feeling the same burning will to push past it all.

The brutal winds.

The snow.

The thinner air.

Narrowly dodging the hurtling ball of ice only for a few strays to pelt them each leaving a stinging red dot. Almost as though they had graduated from snow to hunks of ice. Cursing under his breath he swore if they made it out of this, he’d make Staraptor’s the best tasting poffin he ever had! He was so going to fine that idiot for this whole mess.

Blinking past the welling tears in the distance he saw the looming snow clouds closing in and if they broke though they were home free. “Just a little more Staraptor and we will have conquered this!” Barry shouted over the howling winds.

Just on the cups of rising above the nearly insurmountable weather a huge piece of hail came hurtling at them. Time slowed down to snail pace as there wasn’t room to even dodge and slowing down would cause them to plummet. This was it! Closing his eyes tightly tightening his grip as Staraptor released a ferocious wearable.

Peeling his eyes open he gaped at what he was witnessing. Light enveloped his wings, letting go of restraint he began spinning rapidly towards the ice. Holding his bird companion tighter he let out a war cry of his own. A crushing sound resounded on impact, bleeding with their cries as they burst through the clouds above.

“Oh Arceus almighty! Oh Arceus! We did it! Ha ha ha Staraptor see you’re the best!” He cried out with a hysterical laugh as his breath came out short and fast. Heart hammering inside of his chest froze in state of disbelief. To have made it through by sheer force.

“Oh there’s Spear….Oh no Staraptor!” Shattering the brief moment of victory they began plunging down. The wind ripped through them both frantically glancing about what was wrong.

Okay he can’t panic!

Okay easy, don't panic!

“Aim for Spear Pillar!” He screamed out hoarsely as his trembling hands grasped onto a pokeball. The ground came closer and closer as his unsteady arm rose as his hands sweated through his glove. Hands gripping the ball tighter about to let go, it slipped crashing to the ground. Barry fought to keep his eyes open in consolidation with Staraptor.

What came next happened so fast he barely processed it as they bounced off the cushion of fat known as Snorlax. Barry was flung off in the process, leaving no time to brace himself. When the expected pain hadn’t lanced though. His sense caught up with his brain as strong furry arms wrapped around him.

Gazing up dazed he met a pair of cerulean pools black spots danced across his vision, a pained groan emanating from his throat. Everything was still spinning like they were still spinning through the ice. For a moment the world stilled then began fading away.

When the world came back into focus, he was being shaken gently by the shoulders. Peering down at him were red lined eyes, a fox-like muzzle pressing into his hair.

“Mana! Oh wait, Staraptor! Snorlax!” Jolting up, dizziness speared through his body almost as though he was being cleaved in half. With the support of Mana, he saw they were both on the ground. As if sensing his desire, he was carried closer to them both. Narrowing his gaze, he saw the small rise and fall of their chest.

Signing deeply his trembling hands pressed against them both sucking in a shaky breath.

“Thank you. Both of you I am fined for life to you both. Rest now.” He murmured, recalling them to their pokeballs. Turning his gaze to meet Zoroark gaze he ran a hand through its fluffy crimson mane.

“Thank you, Mana.” Glancing away he took in the surroundings seeing the same old shambled ruins without a hint of moss. Which always seemed to confound Lucas saying it doesn't make sense. To Barry though it did, this was a place of unknown origins tied to the legendary pokemon of this region.

Resting for a while he saw in the distance now that both of his pokemon were safely tucked into their pokeballs was black shards gleaming in the distance. Furrowing his brows, he stood up almost toppling over thanks to his shaking limbs. A furry arm wrapped around his waist he sent a thankful look.

“Let's go there.” He coughed despite the way his body cried out for him to glue himself back on the ground. Barry refused, there was no time for it. Weaving through the temple's debris there lying smashed were shards of a device he’d known anywhere. Lucas had been texting them non-stop for weeks that he was going to investigate the magnetic fields and the odd waves of Mt. Cornet.

There was absolutely no way she would let that happen had the incident really stretched this far.

Tip toeing through the broken shards as his eyes roamed through the wreckage liberally scattered around were pieces of the dish, the antenna split through the center, and torn up wires. Pausing briefly. What kind of freak accident happened here? The antenna nor did the wires look as though they had been smashed in fact the offending rock was nowhere in the circumference of the remains.

Sweeping over again, glimmering under a long-collapsed pillar was a rectangular object. Maneuvering through the jagged pieces, Barry made it to the pillar. Bending down he snatched up the chip that shockingly sustained no damage. Unsure what to do with it he slipped it in his pocket he may not know what to do with it, but he knew someone who did.

“Mana take me to her!” He breathed out pausing for a moment and wondered why had Mana greeted him alone? Shouldn't she have come out with Mana and if she was unable to, wouldn't Mana be frantic to get him to her?

She could have been resting to conserve energy from the whole ordeal. Knowing Mana she wasn’t one to wake others when they needed to rest. No doubt anybody would have been exhausted after this. Mana seemed to sag at the mention of her companion, beginning to slowly lead him towards the tunnel entrance.

Passing the threshold his eyes fluttered rapidly to adjust to the lack of brightness as fire flickered illuminating a small portion of the area. Still going strong, breathing warmth into the cavern. There fully intact was a familiar orange tent firmly anchored in place. Not so much as a tiny rock on it. Good, it looked like the idiot's camp was out of the cave-in’s radius.

“Honestly, I go through all this and she’s sleeping. Geze Mana I think you baby her a tad bit too much. I grew concerned about how you'll smother her future offspring.” He mocked snorting a little. Tension fading from his shoulders, glad he made the right choice after all. Screw what others said about them being adults that could handle stuff alone. In Barry’s book some stuff couldn’t be faced alone. Glancing over his shoulder to his best friend's pokemon, he paused.

Mana didn’t seem to find the humor, nor did she seem offended, almost as if it hadn’t registered. Her eyes remained trained on the tent not even blinking. Pressing his lips together he leisurely made his way towards the tent. Unzipping the flap, he frowned deeply at the sight.

This couldn’t be right, he thought.

Illuminating the tent was the self-sufficient solar powered lamp Lucas built to the right.

To the left was her pack flap opened with pajamas neatly folded.

Between them both located on the upper part was her belt, six pokeballs still attached.

Boots were left of the center surrounded by a dried area, evidence that it trekked through the snow.

In the center laided two sleeping bags, one for Anup another for her.

Except neither of them were there.

Half asleep you heard the Starlys chirp and trill and the Kricketots chime in harmony with one another, announcing the arrival of morning. You shifted slightly in bed, pulling the covers closer to you and yawned. The best feeling in the world you believe was hearing the sound of the world rousing to the start of a new day and knowing you didn't have to wake up along with it. With a content sigh you roll on your side, slowly drifting off to sleep...

Tap! Tap! Tap!

You furrow your brows slightly at the sound but quickly relaxed, smiling softly to yourself...

TAP! TAP! TAP!

You assume it was just a Starly or two messing outside your window so you chose to ignore it, opting to pull the covers over your head. You sighed again, this time in annoyance, as you try to fall asleep...

Click! Scree!

"Psst! (Y/N), are you sleeping?"

Your eyes open in disbelief as you immediately recognize the voice and just process the fact that he happen to somehow open your bedroom window to ask the obvious. 'Say it ain't so.’ You turned to face your window to see Barry there, arms resting on top of the sill as he watched you with a curious expression which was soon beaming with excitement once he saw you. "Oh good, you're awake!" Like you weren't sleeping to begin with.

"Wha? Barry what are you doing here?" You asked groggily. "Aren't you suppose to be at Pastoria City with Wake?"

"It's summer, duh! Crasher Wake gave me the week off and since your school is closed for vacation I thought it was perfect to catch up and hang out together this week!" Barry had this lively vibe around him that practically made him glow like a ray of sun leaving you dizzy with exhaustion. You plop back in bed with a groan knowing your plans to sleep in till afternoon for the whole week was ruined. "So at first I was thinking of going to the Great Marsh like we use to for old time sake" Barry began as he climbed right in sitting at your windowsill. "But I heard today would reach the hottest temperature ever in Sinnoh history!"

"Really now?" You asked in a monotonous voice. How hot can it possibly be in the coldest region in the world.

"Get this, 72 degrees! Can you believe it?!" As someone who was born and raised in Hoenn, a region where temperatures can reach up to the high 90s during the late summer you weren't exactly impressed. "So change of plans! We're going to spend the day at Sandgem Beach so pack your things!"

You glanced at the digital clock on your bedside. It read 6:22AM. "Barry it's too early! Can't we go like at 10 or something?"

"No way! We have to go now otherwise it'll be full if we go any later!"

"When is Sandgem Beach ever full!? You can barely even call it a beach!" You turned away from your friend, wrapping yourself up in your blanket. You were not getting out of this bed.

"Come on (Y/N)!" Barry whined. "We haven't hung out in so long! I literally spent all night planning this week out and you're just going to turn me down?! If Lucas and Dawn were here they would've agreed in going!" You can hear the irritation in his voice but underneath it was a hint of dejection. Shortly after your journey with the trio came to an end things changed. Dawn moved to the Kalos region a year ago to continue her study on Pokemon and just a few months afterwards Lucas left to Unova for reasons unknown though you had a hunch that it had something to do with that officer Looker. Barry spend most of his days at Pastoria’s gym, training intensely with Crasher Wake. As for you your parents never supported your dreams of becoming a Pokemon Trainer and your battling skills were left to be desired so you dropped it to continue your studies and follow a more reasonable career.

Although you didn't look at him you can feel him gazing at you, presumably with a pout or with Lillipup eyes. You groaned in defeat. "Fine."

Barry barely let you finish your sentence as he responded, "Really? Awesome! Don't forget to bring your Pokemon along with you, alright? And don't show up late otherwise I'll fine you!" With that he jump out your window and let out a yelp. "Don't worry! I'm alright!"

You sighed, wondering how anyone could have so much energy so early in the morning as you practically dragged yourself out of bed to start the day.

Sandgem Town was quiet, the majority of the residents still asleep or just starting their day. You haven’t been in Sandgem in quite a while yet walking down the somewhat familiar road invoked a nostalgic feeling. You paused, looking at the houses on the street till you spot the familiar lab down the road. Professor Rowan’s lab. It almost felt like yesterday when you took your first step through Route 201 alongside your friends Lucas and Barry (although the latter practically raced his way there) to get here with your first Pokemon, Riolu. You couldn't help but smile at the memory before going on your way to Sandgem Beach. And, as you predicted, it was empty saved for Barry.

He stood at the edge of the boardwalk, his back facing you as he perform some stretching exercise. His team was already out of their Pokeballs, enjoying themselves. Infernape was meditating, Roserade, Snorlax, and Staraptor were sunbathing, Floatzel was swimming, and Heracross was attempting to bury itself in the sand, seeking warmth. Taking out three Pokeballs from your belt you released your team: Lucario, Lopunny, and Vaporeon. Your Pokemon looked around their surroundings before glancing up at you in surprise. When was the last time you actually brought them somewhere that wasn't home or your school’s campus? “Go on you guys. Have fun!” With that said your Pokemon went off to do their own thing.

Lucario sat beside Inferape, joining it in meditation and Lopunny bounded excitedly over to its long time crush, Roserade, the Bouquet Pokemon vastly annoyed that its peace was disrupted as it escaped from its crushing grip. Lastly, Vaporeon decided to take a swim, dipping into the ocean and blending itself into its surroundings, disappearing from sight.

The commotion between Lopunny and Roserade caught Barry's attention as he looked over to notice you. "Too slow!" He yelled running over to you. Not even giving you a chance to say something he grabs your arm and drags you over to the boardwalk. Once he lets go he begins to take off his shirt.

"Ready for what?" You asked.

“Barry!” You never saw your friend shirtless before so you couldn't help but feel flustered. Though he didn’t seem to care as he carried on anyways. As you assumed, Barry had a lean figure, what you didn't expect however was the amount of freckles he had. Although Barry had freckles dusting his cheeks and nose they were barely noticeable compared to the ones on his back and shoulders which were far more prominent. Realizing you were staring longer then normal you quickly turned away, trying to hide the awkward blush.

Luckily, Barry didn't notice. "Ready?"

"To swim!"

You look down at the blue water before dipping a bare foot in. It was ice cold. "It's freezing!" You exclaimed.

"It's not that bad!"

"Thanks but I pass" you said, waving a hand dismissively.

Barry pouted but it was soon replaced with a mischievous smile. "Alright then, suit yourself." He said, surprising you. Barry wasn't one to easily let things go without trying to convince you first. He's up to something, you know it. You were about to ask but he had already left your side as he jump right into the water, splashing you head to toe causing a sharp gasp to escape your lips from the sudden shock of being doused in icy water. Barry pop back up to the surface with a triumphant smirk, his bright eyes gleaming with playfulness.

"You suck!" You yelled causing him to laugh as he dived back underwater. Soaked to the bone there really was no point in staying out of the water in hopes of drying off soon, not with this cold breeze that made it impossible to warm up. You remove your hoodie and shorts revealing your (color) swimsuit before setting them down on the boardwalk and slipping into the water. Since you were already cold the frigid water didn't get to you, feeling more welcoming then before.

You looked around for your rival, trying to spot the blonde in the murky water but only saw his Floatzel which was lazily floating around. "Barry?” Something suddenly grabbed onto your ankle causing you to scream in surprise and flailing to get away, kicking away whatever touched you.

Barry appeared right beside you, clutching his left cheek. "Ow! Seriously?! You just kicked my face!"

"Well you shouldn't have grabbed me like that!" You said. He only stick his tongue out at you before swimming over to the boardwalk, crossing his arms and resting his head atop of it. You watched him as he stared up at the blue sky with a content expression, droplets of water clinging on to his hair as it shined in the morning light. Seeing him like this gave you the same flustered feeling from before. You couldn't quite wrap your head around as to why though. You’ve known him since kindergarten. So why all of a sudden you felt awkward around him?

"What’s up?" You didn’t even realize that he had stopped gazing up at the sky in favor of looking at you.

“What do you mean?” You said, turning elsewhere though it was in vain since he already caught you this time around.

“You were staring at me just now. It was pretty weird.” You try to think of something to say, mainly to defend yourself but to your relief he changed the subject. “So how’s school?”

You shrugged. “It’s alright. Senior year isn’t difficult compared to the other years since we’re more focused on applying for college.”

“Do you know where you want to go?” You noticed his words were a bit quiet and reserved unlike his usual chipper and noisy self.

“Well I was hoping to go to University of Unova since it’s known for having the best (career) course” you explained. “Though my parents aren’t too keen on me going that far so I might just stick to Goldenrod University.”

“I know that but...” He trailed off for a moment, thinking of what to say. “Can’t you just go to Canalave College instead?”

“Goldenrod!?” Barry’s sudden sharp tone made you flinch. “Why so far?” He was looking at you with a hurt expression that made you feel guilty despite the fact you didn’t do anything wrong. At least, you felt like you did nothing wrong.

“Well compared to Unova which is practically halfway across the world. Johto is just south of Sinnoh.”

“Barry, Canalave College doesn’t even have programs on what I’m going for.”

“Ugh, this is why I’ve always hated school” Barry grumbled, letting go of the boardwalk just to sink further into the water leaving just his eyes visible to you, glaring down at nothing in particular. He almost resembled that of a pouting child.

You didn’t understand why he was so upset about your plans or why he was trying to make you change your college decisions. Unless… “You don’t want me to leave?”

Barry barely let you finish your sentence as he quickly got up. “It’s not that!”

“Then what’s the problem?” You pressured.

At this point Barry wasn’t even looking at you, opting to just randomly glance around the area. “There is no problem! It’s just...” With a sigh he finally looked at you. Honey colored eyes stared at your (e/c) ones, his cheeks gaining a bright shade of pink. “I thought even though Lucas and Dawn left at least I still have you around.”

You couldn’t help but frown. You didn’t realize just how attached Barry was to you and the others until now. Naturally you felt bad but you certainly couldn’t change your plans for him either as much as it hurts you to see him like this. “I’m sorry. I didn’t think you would be this upset about it but it’s just how it is. Eventually we have to go our own way to live our lives. Right now you’re training with Crasher Wake to become one of the best Pokemon Trainer ever. At some point you’re going to leave Sinnoh to follow that dream, right?” He remained silent but nodded in response. “Just because we’re not going to be together like old times doesn’t mean we’re no longer friends. You’ll always be my best friend no matter what.”

“Yeah, you’re right. I guess I was being over dramatic.” You couldn’t help but smile when you saw his expression brighten. That was until he started giggling leaving you perplexed.

“Huh? What’s so funny?” You asked

“Sorry I just found the whole ‘you’ll always be my best friend’ bit kind of cheesy.”

“I was trying to cheer you up you douche!” You snapped unable to control your blush of embarrassment as Barry continued laughing. Seeking petty revenge you bought your fingers to your lips and let out a sharp whistle. Without warning your Vaporeon splashed out between you both before spouting water right in his face. He sputtered in surprise as he attempted to shield himself.

“So that’s how it’s going to be huh?” He challenged before calling for his Floatzel who immediately appeared by his side. Already getting the cue of what was going on the Pokemon retaliated by spraying sea water over you by spinning its propeller-like tails. Oh, it’s on now. Barry however was already a step ahead of you as he mounted onto his Pokemon’s back. “Good luck trying to catch me Slowpoke!” He taunted with a smirk before promptly swimming away from you. You knew Vaporeon was nowhere near as fast as Floatzel but you sure as hell weren’t going to let him get away so easily. You got on Vaporeon’s back and began swimming after the two, unable to contain the childlike excitement and determination you were getting from the chase.

For the first time since you moved to the chilly region you truly felt the warmth of summer in Sinnoh. You and Barry sat on a bench right outside Sandgem Beach, not bothering to change out of your swimsuits as you ate popsicles and watch the afternoon go by. Residents glance at you both with odd looks since beachgoers rarely, if ever, visit their town but neither of you mind at all. After having that impromptu water fight you both decided to have a Pokemon battle, for old time sake. Of course you lost but you didn’t mind. Its been so long since you felt the fun and adrenaline that battles gave you that you completely forgot why you enjoyed them so much in the first place.

“Hey (Y/N)?” You looked at Barry who took a small bite from his orange creamsicle. “I know I said it was cheesy but is it true? I’ll always be your best friend no matter what?”

“Of course. I wouldn’t lie to you about that.” You had just finished your (flavor) popsicle, dumping the stick in the trash can beside you. He remained silent and although he said he was fine you notice still a hint of sadness in his expression as he stared off in the distance. Placing a hand on his shoulder you diverted his attention to you as you beamed at him. “It’s a promise.”

There was a sudden shimmer in his eyes and you wonder if he was tearing up when he quickly rub at them. “It better be otherwise I’ll fine you ten million PokeDollars if you replace me!” You couldn’t help but giggle, Barry joining in.

“So what’s the plan tomorrow?” You asked.

“Well I was thinking the Great Marsh maybe. If you’re fine with that.”

You nodded. “I bet I can catch more Pokemon then you.” You smirked when his smile faded into an annoyed expression.

“As if! I’m totally going to kick your ass!” He said swatting away your hand when you attempted to ruffle his hair just to irk him.

Needless to say, you were pretty glad he woke you up this morning.

Sinnoh was always very snowy. It was the coldest region by far, in some of the towns there would be blizzards around this time but.. Not in Twinleaf Town.

In Twinleaf Town, the snow was always delicate. It would snow only a bit, and the best kind of snow yet! Ones you could make into snowballs or snowmen, or play around in for hours, if you didn’t get so cold.

And with him, snow days were always fun.

“Y/N! C’mon!!” You heard a familiar voice banging on your door and window, if it weren’t for the protection he would’ve burst into the house- “I’m borrreedd!! Hurry up!!”

You put on your scarf, opening the door for him, the boy almost falling from the sudden door open. “Barry! You’ve got to be careful with the door— I thought you were gonna tear it from the hinges!” You laugh, but he just makes a angry face. Well.. Tries to.

- It was there that she began to teach you the basics of being a Pokemon Trainer. It was adorable at first, seeing the assistant turn into a teacher when it comes to you. 

- As much as she loves being the Professor’s assistant, she would love to go to Hearthome and audition for contests. You’re the only one who knows about this, her being far too embarrassed to tell the other’s when you were the one who saw her gleeful outbursts when meeting one of the contest judges.

- It was that moment there that when you started to laugh at how adorable she was talking about contests that her heart skipped a beat. At that moment, she wasn’t the Professor’s assistant-she was just another teenager in a Pokemon adventure that just so happened she fell in love with her companion.

- She’s more of a nurturer so to speak, so any given moment that you two are adventuring together, she would heal your Pokemon. It’s not just your team though, she would heal you in case that you gotten scraped. It’s an excuse for her to stand closer to you but ultimately, it’s her caring nature for you.

- She confesses before you went inside the portal that led to the world of Giratina. She doesn’t know if you were going to live or not and she doesn’t want to know. Dawn shouted at the top of her lungs that she loved you and that she would be waiting for you back in the real world.

- When you do come back, with Giratina in your Poke Ball, she gives you the biggest hug she could muster as you told her you reciprocated her feelings.

- He finally has a rival worthy of his journey! He expects you to keep up with him because-after all-he doesn’t have time for slowpokes. It’s usually him to drag you along his adventures and training regimens as he tells you his dreams of being the best there ever was.

- Whether you’re just as rambunctious as him or laid-back, he would still drag you nonetheless. He never shuts his mouth so I hope you’re ready to hear him talk and talk and talk. Of course, that doesn’t mean Barry was selfish. He honestly loves to listen to you during campfires late at night and that he’s interested in your goals.

- Honestly this boy is so dense, he thought that him hugging you so tightly whenever you won a match against someone and have his heart beat fast is normal. It took both his mom and Dawn that he loves you and yes, you and him are literally the oh my god, they were rivals trope.

- Despite the new information, he doesn’t change how much physical affection he gives you. Even when battling against each other, he would give you a hug right after, making sure they last longer because hey, he really loves hugs!

- He confesses when you become Champion but not right after. When you came back to Twinleaf Town with the title in your hands, he asks you to come with him to Lake Verity. He was oddly calm, something that frightened you for a moment, until he confessed to you that he loves you. If you reciprocate, he’ll have more energy that he could rival the generators in cities.

synopsis: barry tells himself he’s gonna do it. he’s gonna tell you how he feels about you. and he’s not gonna chicken out this time. he’s not. hopefully.

parties always made barry wildly uncomfortable, contrary to his boisterous personality. the clamor of people and the stuffiness of it all is usually what keeps him away from the scene.

he’s not sure how dawn managed to convince him to come to her party. he couldn’t say no – after all, she dropped your name – and ended up throwing on the only dress shirt he owned and a pair of dark jeans before scurrying out the door like some scared cat.

“barry, you came!” dawn smiles brightly at him from the doorway, a sheepish smile spreading on his face. she steps aside and tugs him into the brightly lit house, the murmur of voices filling his ears.

time seems to stop when everyone’s gaze turns to the newcomer, smiles blossoming on their faces when they realize oh, it’s barry! he’s actually here. everyone greets him and goes on with their conversations, leaving barry to stand awkwardly in dawn’s circle of friends.

“what made you come this year, dude?” lucas, barry’s long-time friend, claps him on the back. he flinches, managing a grin.

“dawn kinda held me at gunpoint…”

“i did not! lucas, honey, he’s here because y/n is–” barry’s whine cuts her off, chuckles from both of them making his cheeks turn red. “speaking of which, she’s probably upstairs finishing her makeup. why don’t you go say hi?” dawn suggests, though it sounds like more of a command than anything.

barry rolls his eyes at her poor matchmaking antics and makes his way up the stairs, scratching at the skin of his elbow through his shirt as he wanders through the hallway.

maybe this was a stupid idea. what if dawn sent me up here and she’s not even here? what if this is some kind of prank, and everyone’s in on it and they’re gonna jump out and–

“oh, barry!” your voice, like the song of angels, violently pulls him out of a trance as he takes in the sight of you – hair gently curled, your dress hugging your curves, the supple skin of your thighs and those killer heels. christmas may be a holy holiday but his thoughts were anything but as he lets out a low whistle of appreciation that doesn’t go unnoticed.

you smirk, clasping your hands in front of you as you meet his gaze again. “was that a compliment?”

“no!” barry yells, shaking his head immediately after. “i mean, yes, it was– it is, you just… wow,” he lamely finishes, cheeks tinged pink. you can’t help the smile that spreads on your glossy lips, stepping closer to him and reaching for his hand.

“i’m glad you came,” you admit softly, chuckling. his hand envelops yours, warm and secure, and you squeeze it. he squeezes back, making both of you laugh.

“um…” barry mumbles, pursing his lips as he tries to form coherent thoughts. “i, uh… well.”

his attempt at conversation is adorable but you don’t want to leave him hanging any longer. “let’s go downstairs?”

he nods, grateful for your suggestion as the two of you mosey down the stairwell.

it’s no shocker that dawn and lucas are eyeing the stairs expectantly for the two of you to come down, but they try and act like they weren’t counting the seconds it took.

“y/n!” dawn calls, gasping at the sight of your outfit. “you look amazing!”

you had practically begged dawn to get barry to come to the christmas eve party – you needed to tell him how you felt, make this thing between you actually go somewhere rather than staying labelless forever. the two of you are friends, first and foremost, but you’d be stupid to not notice when it evolved into something more. you just want to define what that “more” will be.

the sliding door cracks open, and you turn around to see a smiling barry step onto the balcony beside you.

“hey,” he greets.

“hey,” comes your breathy response, sounding a little too sensual for the occasion. he doesn’t comment, keeping his gaze on you as he leans against the railing.

barry’s shocked you were the one to confess first; this whole night he had planned to confess to you after opening presents with the promise ring in his back pocket, but you beat him to the punch.

“i want us to be something, y’know? this thing is nice and comfortable but i–”

“want more? yeah, me too,” he finishes your sentence, body facing yours. he takes your hands, lacing your fingers together as he smiles at you. “i was actually gonna confess to you after we opened presents, but…”

he reaches into his back pocket, fumbling with the box before opening it. your eyes widen at the pearl band, tears starting to sting the corners of your eyes as you meet barry’s own misty ones.

“barry, you…” a single tear slips down your cheek at the sight of the promise ring, the sentiment making your heart absolutely melt.

“y/n,” he begins, voice wavering only slightly. “will you, uh, be my girlfriend? is that too formal? agh, let me ask again. wanna date– mmph!”

you cut him off with your lips against his, arms wrapping around his neck as you hold him close. this is it. the climax. the moment you’ve been waiting for since you first went on your adventure with him 9 years ago.

The perfect gift – Barry x reader

Barry usually didn't like the holidays. Not because he didn't enjoy spending time with the people he loved but more because everyone seemed to take it extra slow this time of the year. The streets and the shops were crowded with people who only moved at a leisurely speed, effectively keeping him from getting anywhere in time.

It was no secret that he was always in a hurry and disliked people who stood in his path but the holidays were always a whole 'nother strain for his patience.

This year, though, he actually looked forward to Christmas. He had found the perfect gift for you a few months ago which was quite unusual for him since he normally bought Christmas presents at the last moment. But not this time, and he was already fired up for seeing your face when you unwrapped the parcel. He was absolutely sure that you would love the present, mostly because he would be overjoyed if you gave that to him and you usually shared the same opinions about gifts.

With a self-satisfied smile, Barry glued a bright red bow on top of the package. It was wrapped in white fancy paper with red and gold ornaments, and even though he really didn't have the patience for stuff like that and usually rushed the wrapping process, he had to admit that it looked pretty good. Okay, almost every edge was covered with tape and the pattern didn't line up at all but other than that, it was fine.

At least it didn't look as bad as the gift he gave you last year – it had been wrapped in tinfoil and old newspapers because he simply had forgotten to buy new gift wrapping paper in time.

After he scribbled your name into the tiny card that was attached to the package, he put it into the back of his closet. Admittedly, the hiding spot wasn't very good but he hoped that you would overlook it nevertheless.

Searching for each others' presents was almost a holiday tradition for the two of you. You didn't look inside the bags or parcels though – you had agreed that you didn't want to spoil the surprise – but it was still fun to go through every possible hiding spot to see how many presents you got to each other. Sometimes you even started a guessing game, trying to figure out what was inside the packages.

Barry chuckled as he thought about that one particular year in which you had hidden the presents in large pots and pans because he almost never touched them. For your safety, it was for the best to keep him out of the kitchen though, so you usually didn't complain about it.

He, on the other hand, had put the gifts into the washing machine – and had to do the laundry for the whole month of December to prevent you from finding them.

You had decided to spend Christmas Eve at your parents' house this year. Since you were children, your families had spent the holidays together, so it was only natural that they had invited Barry's family too, and after gorging yourselves on the delicious dinner your parents had prepared for everyone, it was finally time to exchange presents.

When Barry rummaged through the pile of packages next to him his gaze met yours, and a smile flashed over his face as he noticed the excited, yet soft expression in your eyes.

“Merry Christmas, love,” he said and handed the messily wrapped package over to you. You thrust a gift bag into his hand. “Merry Christmas.”

He watched you pluck at the tape for a while before he directed his attention back to his own present. When he reached into the bag and pulled out a specialized book about the various regional forms of Pokemon and the reason behind the different forms, he felt his face drop. This couldn't be true.

“Did... did we really get each other the same gift?” you asked, your face clearly showing the same confusion Barry was feeling in that very moment. He smiled nervously. “Yeah. Seems like it.”

“But I bought that book for you because you couldn't stop talking about it!”

For a moment, Barry could only stare at you but then, he started to laugh. “I talked about it so much because I wanted to find out if you'd be interested in a book like that! I had no idea that it would result in you buying that thing for me.”

“Oh my goodness,” you said. “We're idiots.”

Still laughing, Barry got up and pulled you into a tight hug. “Yeah,” he agreed. “But at least we're each others' idiot.”
