Chapter 4
Warnings: none
Chapter 1: link
Chapter 3: link
'...can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my Poker Face...'
Poker Face wasn't Malcolm's morning alarm so, waking up to the song was confusing and unexpected to say the least. Even more perplexing was the sound of two unfamiliar voices - a man and a woman, he assumed - talking to his left. He focused on the voices after a moment, hoping for answers without having to open his eyes yet.
"He likes this song." The man commented.
"How could you possibly know that?" The woman asked, sounding vaguely exasperated
"Checked his Facebook. I mean, he can hear everything, right?"
Well, they weren't talking about him at least, unless maybe they'd gotten him confused with Barry - Malcolm was more of a rock music fan than the top 40s. The more feminine voice rattled off something about auditory functions but Malcolm had returned his attention to trying to place either voice. Even as the man's voice wandered closer, singing along, he couldn't identify it.
His thoughts were interrupted by a panicked gasp that was very distinctly Barry's to his left and he finally opened his eyes to see what was happening.
"Oh- my god-" The man jumped about a foot as he turned around, full attention on the opposite side of the room.
"Where am I?" Barry slurred and Malcolm assumed he was just as disoriented as Malcolm felt as he pushed himself to a sitting position. The woman - a doctor, he assumed...were they in a hospital? - rushed forward and shone a flashlight into his eyes as Barry winced and groaned.
"Dr. Wells, get down to the Cortex, like, right now." The man - not a doctor or at least not in scrubs, Malcolm noted - said into some sort of pager before joining the woman next to Barry.
Then, his brain caught up. Dr. Wells? As in the Dr. Wells? He tuned back in to the conversation to hear the man say next, "relax. Everything's okay, man. You're at S.T.A.R. Labs."
Barry echoed him, still sounding groggy and out-of-it, but Malcolm's mind was racing. S.T.A.R. Labs? Dr. Wells? What the hell was happening?
The man continued, "I'm Cisco Ramon. She's Caitlin- Dr. Snow."
"I need you to urinate in this." Dr. Snow instructed with such matter-of-fact urgency that Malcolm nearly laughed. He pushed himself up to sit, watching Barry climb out of bed and pull away from the two of them agitatedly, wondering how long it would take any of them to notice he'd woken up too.
"What's going on?" Barry demanded.
"You were struck by lightning, dude." Cisco answered and Malcolm felt worry surge through him even though Barry seemed fine as he turned and caught a glimpse of himself in a nearby monitor.
"Lightning...gave me abs?" Barry asked sounding mystified and Malcolm stifled a laugh, leaning forward to see if he could see the alleged abs - he'd believe that when he saw it.
"Your muscles should be atrophied but instead they're in a chronic and unexplained state of cellular regeneration-" The doctor started, speaking quickly and sounding absolutely fascinated.
"C'mere," Cisco said, tugging Barry to sit again. "You were in a coma."
"For how long?" Malcolm blurted at the same time as Barry, no longer content with staying silent and observing. Had they both been in comas? That seemed...just statistically unlikely, frankly.
"Nine months." A new voice said, and Malcolm ignored the startled expressions Barry, Cisco, and Dr. Snow were giving him in favor of locating the person.
Dr. Wells wheeled into the room and Malcolm furrowed his brow, taking in the man's state. Apparently they hadn't been the only ones injured, unless Malcolm's memory was spotty and Dr. Wells had always been in a wheelchair. He was pretty sure he hadn't, though.
"Dr. Snow, if you would, please set up a wheelchair for Malcolm to use. I'd like to take a short walk and talk to both of our patients if they're up for it. We have a lot to discuss."
Dr. Snow nodded and quickly set about retrieving a wheelchair for Malcolm and S.T.A.R. Labs sweatshirts for them both. Barry, still trying to process the shocking revelation, looked at his brother with a mix of relief and confusion.
"You okay?" Barry asked, brow furrowed with worry.
Malcolm took a deep breath, his mind racing to catch up with everything that had happened, and shrugged. "I think so. I mean, I feel fine."
Barry immediately crossed to help Malcolm into the wheelchair as Dr. Snow rolled it to the bedside but Malcolm brushed off the assistance. "I told you, I'm fine, Barr."
Barry hesitated before backing off and letting Malcolm shift himself to the edge of the bed and into the chair. It was a shitty, standard public use chair that made Malcolm wish he had his own, especially as Dr. Wells gestured for them to follow and wheeled himself out with his fancy, electric, custom S.T.A.R. Labs chair. God, this was going to be a pain.
As Dr. Wells led them down the hallway, the fluorescent lights overhead casting a clinical glow, Malcolm and Barry couldn't help but exchange glances, both struggling to wrap their heads around the surreal situation they found themselves in.
Dr. Wells spoke as they moved, "S.T.A.R. Labs has not been operational since FEMA categorized us as a class four hazardous location. 17 people died that night. Many more were injured, myself amongst them."
Malcolm gaped as they rounded a corner and the worst of the damage was revealed - a hole like a giant, angry maw through every floor from the basement where the particle accelerator was housed to the very highest point of the ceiling.
"Jeeze..." Barry muttered, leaning against the rail as he took it all in.
"What happened?" Malcolm asked, turning in his chair to face Dr. Wells. It was almost unsettling with the man's bright blue eyes actually at eye level. The man seemed as though he could stare straight into Malcolm's soul.
Dr. Wells sighed. "Nine months ago, the particle accelerator went online exactly as planned; for 45 minutes, I had achieved my life's dream. And then...there was an anomaly. The electron volts became unmeasurable, the ring under us popped," Dr. Wells gestured as he explained. "Energy from that detonation was thrown into the sky and that, in turn, seeded a storm cloud..."
"That created a lightning bolt that struck me." Barry finished and Dr. Wells nodded.
"That's right; you and Malcolm as well. Two separate lightning bolts struck two different locations miles apart and happened to find the both of you, it's statistically unheard of to say the least. I was recovering myself when I heard about the both of you."
Malcolm opened his mouth to ask a question but Dr. Wells continued, gesturing for them both to follow him back.
"The hospital was undergoing unexplainable power outages every time either of you would go into cardiac arrest - which was actually a misdiagnosis because you see, neither of you were flatlining. Your heartbeats were moving too fast for the EKG to register. Now, I'm not the most popular person in town these days but Detective West and his daughter gave me permission to bring you both here, where we were able to stabilize you."
"Iris?" Barry asked. Malcolm was pretty sure that wasn't the most pressing part of anything Dr. Wells had said.
"Iris, yes." Dr. Wells confirmed with an amused smile. "She came to see you quite often."
"She talks a lot." Dr. Snow commented.
"Also, she's hot," Cisco added and Malcolm rolled his eyes.
"I need to go." Barry said abruptly and Dr. Snow looked scandalized.
"No, you can't!" She insisted and Dr. Wells nodded in agreement. "Now that you're awake, we need to do more tests. You're still going through changes, there's so much that we don't know!"
"I'm fine. Really, I feel normal." Barry said, exchanging a glance with Malcolm, silently asking if he wanted to come with.
Malcolm took a moment, feeling torn. He knew if he stayed, they'd poke and prod at him, chasing answers. The feeling was too close to the helplessness he remembered from before, the surgeries and scans he'd endured that without a choice, all promising to "fix" him after that night when their lives had been completely shattered. But how the hell could they both really be okay after all that?
"My chair's probably at Joe's," Malcolm started, patting the shitty wheelchair's arm for emphasis. "Why don't you grab it and bring it back for me?" There, that seemed like a decent compromise, maybe Drs. Snow and Wells would feel better about that.
Barry gave Malcolm a thumbs up and made his way out of S.T.A.R. Labs and Malcolm settled back in the flimsy, uncomfortable chair. This definitely ranked as one of the weirder ways he'd woken up.

Barry trudged into the Wells house determined to hate him, and determined also to hate this mysterious daughter—the key factor in this man being allowed custody of Barry. He pictured a girl a few years younger, annoying and bratty and loud. Anything that could help him hate her—anything could help him hate this.
Except…
Except she wasn’t any of those things.
After the death of his mother, Barry's world stops. But for a while, he dares to hope—both that his father is found innocent, and that he gets to live with Iris like he wants to.
In one timeline, he gets the second half of this wish. In this timeline...he gets neither.
But maybe, just maybe, things might turn out alright anyway.

For the headcanons game, perhaps an AU where when Eobard goes to kidnap Eddie in s1, Barry gets to that bridge just a teeny bit quicker and saves Eddie (by Eobard kidnapping him instead)
YES. WHUMP. This is absolutely not something I really really hoped would happen when first watching the episode at the ripe age of 9. Nope. I was a completely normal child.
Ah. Remember when Eobard took a blood sample from Farooq, saying he’d love to know how he was able to steal the Flash’s speed. And that plotline went nowhere? Whelp, that would not be the case in this universe. Because of this, Eo wouldn’t need to keep Barry in Star labs which —alongside simply not having a speedster to search— will make rescue a lot more difficult. He also knows what he's doing, knows how to hack and deactivate all the trackers and tech in Barry's suit to ensure he won't be found.
This situation forces Eddie or Joe to tell Iris Barry’s the Flash (hell, Eddie may just yell “Barry!” When he’s taken and that gives it away) and she's going to be pissed. Like canon, they don't/can't report Barry as missing, and with him out of commission; Thawne doesn’t need to send Grodd, which means they can just focus on finding him. It would be even more tense for everyone because Wells/Thawne taking Barry actually makes sense which is somehow scarier than the alternative of the kidnapping being random. They’re just hoping they can find Barry before a man who hates him enough to kill his mom when he was 11— kills him too.
Meanwhile, Barry is not doing great because Thawne isn’t particularly worried about meeting his food calorie needs; just making sure he doesn’t die of starvation. Plus, Thawne isn’t keen on giving him information about, well, anything. “Why the hell am I here?" "What’s happening with my friends?" "What are you working on over there, I can’t turn my head enough to see it—" etc. These questions, of course came after empty threats, a lot of shouting, and probably the threat of a gag if he wasn’t quieter. The cherry on top, Thawne was acting weird towards him, lingering a little too close for a little too long. Rescue really couldn't come sooner.
Eobard figured out a way to replicate Farooq's powers to not just deprive Barry of his speed-- but transfer it to himself so he can run home. Luckily for him, Barry's compliance isn't needed, unluckily for him; it will take a few days to a week for Barry to be completely drained. Luckily for Barry, that gives his friends time to find him, unluckily for him... the process is extremely exhausting and painful.
Cisco doesn't even realize what was happening, just that one second, his hand was on the mannequin where Barry's suit would normally sit, and the next second-- the world had gone blue and Barry was there in front of him; tied to a chair with his eyes squinted shut and watering. He wouldn't normally trust whatever that was, but with no other leads and days flying past far too quickly; he decides to tell the team what he saw.
Two possible timelines: 1. Cisco is able to hone his powers enough to get Barry's location and they arrive just in time... or 2. just too late.

Herobard introducing Barry to Robern in the future, who is not yet aware of the utter shenanigans Eobard has become entangled with in the past
Robern - *definitely recognizing Barry from Eobard's 'pictures from the past that he very definitely did not take himself' that Robern damn well knows Eobard took himself* Eobard Thaddeus Thawne.
Eobard - *innocent expression*
Robern - What the fuck did you do? Did you break the timeline???
Barry - *O_O* It's nice to meet you?
Robern - Oh, yes, sorry. It's nice to meet my brother's boyfriend, the Flash from 200 years ago. *turning passive aggressively towards Eobard*
Eobard - I have not, technically, broken the timeline. I admit, the timeline has been broken. But I, technically, was not the one who did it.
Barry - Though the person who did was, interestingly enough, also called Eobard Thawne.
Robern - I'm sorry, but his nonsense is your problem now.
Barry - *nodding* I'm okay with that.
Eobard - I am so wounded, only Gideon loves me.
Gideon - I feel like this is the perfect moment to pile on.

Child in Time
Chapter 4
Warnings: none
Chapter 1: link Previous chapter: link
Eo didn't cry. It was one of the first things Barry noticed in the less than 24 hours he'd had the baby. He'd fuss, make sad whimpering sounds, and wriggle around trying to get whatever it was he wanted, but he never wailed. Not when he was hungry, not when he needed a change, not even when he managed to sit up only to fall over again and bump his head on the crib.
It was odd and Barry couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness whenever Eo whimpered. He knew babies cried, it was their way of communicating - their only way for a decent amount of time - and the fact that Eo didn't just seemed...wrong. Worrying. Still, despite how quiet he was, it was those sad sounds that woke him at 5 in the morning. Barry groggily rubbed his eyes, sitting up and stretching. Eo was lying in his crib, staring at him with those big blue eyes as his little lip wobbled, the teddy bear he'd arrived with firmly in his tiny fingers.
"Morning, buddy," Barry said with a yawn, lifting Eo and the bear out of the crib. "Let's get you some breakfast."
Eo squeaked in response and nuzzled his face into Barry's shoulder before looking up at him again, watching him closely, the bear trapped between his little body and Barry’s chest.
Barry made his way down the stairs, careful not to make too much noise and wake Joe. The kitchen was still dark, the early morning light barely peeking above the horizon, casting pale blue beams through the kitchen window. The house was quiet, the only sounds being the soft hum of the refrigerator and Eo's occasional baby babble. He set Eo down in a high chair he had picked up the previous day and started preparing a bottle.
"You're an early riser, aren't you?" Barry murmured, glancing at the baby who was now gumming on his tiny fists.
Eo's wide blue eyes followed Barry's every movement, a look of pure curiosity and innocence on his face. His tiny nose scrunched up in concentration as he watched Barry, his little fingers gripping the edge of the high chair as he tugged experimentally on the tray. There was something undeniably endearing about the little guy.
As the bottle warmed, Barry leaned against the counter, lost in thought. He had no clue what he was going to do for the rest of the day. He couldn't very well go to work toting a baby, but he couldn't put watching him while working on Cisco, Caitlin, Dr. Wells, or Joe either and the thought of leaving him with anyone else made his stomach twist with anxiety.
The bottle warmer beeped and Barry clumsily tested the temperature with a few drops of the formula on the back of his hand. Satisfied, he carried the bottle to the high chair and carefully picked up Eo. The baby latched onto the bottle eagerly, his tiny hands grasping at Barry's fingers and eyelids already drooping.
"There you go, buddy," Barry muttered softly, watching Eo drink. It was such a normal, everyday moment, and yet it felt so surreal. The soft sounds Eo made as he drank were oddly comforting, his tiny foot kicking the air lazily, and Barry found himself relaxing, if only slightly.
By the time the sun had fully risen, Barry had already called in to work, changed two diapers, prepared a breakfast for himself, read 17 parenting books, watched more Cocomelon than he could stomach, and thought he'd gotten something of a handle on this parenting thing (even if Joe had laughed when he'd said so). By noon, however, Barry was completely frazzled. Eo's teddy bear had been misplaced for what felt like the hundredth time and while he still didn't cry, the sad high-pitched sounds of distress he made seemed infinitely worse.
"I know, I know, I'm sorry, I'll find it-" Barry rambled, trying to soothe the infant as he sped around the house, searching under everything and wondering how he kept putting the thing down without noticing.
Eo's sad whimpers grew louder and Barry's heart sank with each passing second. He couldn't understand how a tiny toy could cause so much distress, but he was determined to find it. He rifled through the couch cushions, checked under the dining table, and even searched through his laundry pile and in the washing machine and dryer. No luck.
Desperation creeping in, Barry took a deep breath and forced himself to pause - or rather, paused the world around him as he mentally retraced his steps. Flash Time had never been more useful.
After a few moments of silence and stillness, Barry remembered the last time he’d been holding it and found the bear tucked in the corner of the bathroom where he must have set it down during a hurried diaper change. He let out a relieved sigh and returned to the living room, where Eo was lying on a baby blanket on the floor, making those heart-wrenching little sounds.
"Here it is, buddy," Barry said, holding up the bear. Eo's eyes lit up and he reached out his tiny hands, immediately clutching the bear by the nose and dragging it in front of himself so he could smush his face into it. Barry couldn't help but smile at the sight. "You really love that bear, huh?" Eo responded with a pleased gurgle, the distress ebbing away as he nuzzled into the plush toy.
Barry's phone buzzed, and he glanced at it to see a text from Iris. 'How's babysitting going?'
Barry quickly typed back. 'Okay. He's a sweet kid."
A moment later, another text from Iris: 'Want to grab lunch? I can help out if you need a break.'
Barry hesitated before replying. 'Sure. Meet at Jitters?'
'See you there.' Was her prompt response.
"Alright, little guy, let's get going," Barry said, unboxing the baby stroller he'd picked up the night previous and loading Eo into it in seconds. He triple checked the diaper bag before leaving the house and speeding to the café, internally wincing as they arrived and he had to stamp out the smoldering rear right wheel, the acrid smell of burning plastic drifting up and making him wrinkle his nose. He made a mental note to talk to Cisco about making a speed-proof stroller as he wheeled Eo inside.
Jitters was busy as it usually was around lunch time but Iris flagged them over with a grin, having managed to snag a corner table. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee managed to cover the melted plastic stench as Barry navigated the stroller through the crowded café, a wave of relief washing over him at the sight of his best friend, her warm smile a balm to his frazzled nerves.
"Hey," Barry greeted, a tired smile tugging at his lips as he carefully unbuckled Eo and lifted him out of the stroller. "Sorry I'm late. Eo had a bit of a crisis over his teddy bear."
"You're not late, don't worry, I was already here. Come here, sweetie." Iris crooned, offering her arms. Barry handed Eo off gratefully, sinking into his chair. "He seems to be doing okay now." She added as Eo wiggled and twisted in her arms until he could see his teddy bear and Barry both.
"Yeah, he's a pretty calm baby." Barry replied.
As they settled at the table, Eo now comfortably seated in Iris's lap, Barry couldn't help but feel a pang of longing as he watched Iris with Eo. There was something so natural about the way she interacted with the baby, and for a moment, he allowed himself to imagine a future where they were a family. But he brushed the thought aside as quickly as it had come. Iris was with Eddie. Eo wasn't even supposed to be here.
"How long are you planning on taking care of him?" Iris asked, her eyes meeting Barry's as Eo chewed on her pointer finger.
Barry sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'm not sure. It's...kind of a complicated situation. It was really last minute and I don't know when they'll be able to take him back, so..." Barry hedged.
A look of understanding crossed Iris's features suddenly though Barry couldn't imagine what she could have possibly figured out from anything he'd just said.
"Well, if it's going to be for a while or...indefinitely...have you told Linda?"
Barry's heart skipped a beat at the mention of Linda. He hadn't even considered how his new, temporary (he hoped) responsibility might affect his budding relationship. He leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his hair.
"Uh, no, I haven't told her yet," Barry admitted, feeling a wave of guilt wash over him.
Iris nodded, her expression sympathetic. "I get it, Barr. It's a lot to handle all of a sudden. But you should talk to her soon, let her know what's going on. She'll understand."
Barry sighed, glancing at Eo and handing him the teddy bear to chew on instead. "Yeah, you're right. I'll talk to her."
The bell above the door chimed and Barry glanced over to see Eddie. He spotted Barry and Iris and waved, making his way over with a smile on his face. "Hey! Iris mentioned you were babysitting, who's this little guy?"
Barry was really getting tired of lying. "This is Eo, he's a friend's kid." He said, hoping there would be no follow-up questions.
Eddie leaned over to get a better look at Eo, who regarded him with wide, curious eyes. "Eo? That's...an interesting name," Eddie said, raising an eyebrow. "Short for something?"
"Uh- probably?" Barry said, scrambling for an explanation for a problem he hadn't even considered. "I mean, that would make sense, but I don't- I'm not sure, actually-" Barry rambled.
Eddie nodded, seeming satisfied with the answer anyway, and turned his attention to Iris. "Hey, babe. Sorry to interrupt-" he started but Iris shook her head.
"No, it's fine. We were just talking about Barry's babysitting adventure." She said with a smile, gently bouncing Eo on her knee. "You should join us."
Eddie looked pleased at the invitation and pulled up a chair, taking a seat next to Iris and giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. Eo stared up at him with a look that seemed much too intense for his tiny face. Barry couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy at the sight of Iris and Eddie together with Eo, looking like a picture-perfect family, though he pushed it aside. He turned his focus instead onto Eo, specifically, ignoring the ache in his chest. The baby was still staring at Eddie, almost as if he recognized him, which only added to Barry's discomfort.
"So, Barr, how's it been so far? Babysitting, I mean." Eddie asked, his tone light and friendly.
Barry forced a smile, trying to keep his thoughts from spiraling. "He's a good kid, it hasn't been too bad. Just figuring it all out as I go."
Eddie nodded, glancing back down with a small laugh as Eo tugged on his jacket sleeve in an attempt to pull himself into Eddie's lap instead. "Hey there buddy. Is it okay if I...?" Eddie started to ask and Barry blinked in surprise.
"Oh, yeah, sure." Barry said and Eddie plucked Eo into his arms, letting the infant mouth at his shoulder instead, the baby satisfied now that he'd gotten what he wanted. Iris watched them with a soft smile, clearly enjoying the sight of Eddie with the baby. Barry couldn't help but feel a mixture of emotions; relief that Eo seemed content for now, the ever-present anxiety about the whole situation, and a faint, gnawing jealousy.
"Any idea how long your friend will be gone?" Eddie asked, patting Eo's back gently as the baby started to drift off to sleep. Eo shook his head repeatedly and blinked his eyes slowly as though that could prevent the drowsiness that had come over him.
Barry shrugged, trying to keep his expression neutral. "Not sure. Could be a while, though."
Iris nudged Eddie lightly and gave him a look that Barry wished he understood but, at least, Eddie seemed to as he immediately changed the subject. Barry let out a silent breath of relief as the conversation shifted away from his complicated situation. Eddie and Iris continued chatting, discussing work and their plans for the weekend, while Eo's breathing became soft and steady as he fell asleep in Eddie's arms.
The rest of the lunch was spent in a relatively peaceful lull, despite the whirlwind of emotions storming inside Barry. The café buzzed around them with the chatter of other patrons and the clinking of cups and cutlery and Barry let his mind wander.
"Barry, you okay?" Iris's voice cut through his reverie. He blinked, realizing he'd been staring at Eo and Eddie a bit too long.
"Yeah, sorry. Just...thinking, I guess," Barry said, forcing a smile.
Iris gave him a sympathetic look and patted his forearm. "Well, if you need any help, please ask us, okay?" Barry nodded.
Eddie glanced at his watch. "I should get back to the precinct. Joe will start wondering where I am," he said, gently handing Eo back to Barry before giving Iris a quick kiss on the lips. "Good luck babysitting, Barr. You got this." He said with a grin.
Barry watched Eddie walk out the door before turning back to Iris who was looking at him intently.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She asked softly.
Barry forced another smile, adjusting the baby in his arms before moving to place Eo in the stroller again so he wouldn't have to see Iris's concerned expression. "Yeah, I'm fine. Why?"
Iris chewed her lower lip, thinking over her words carefully. "I just...want to make sure you know you can talk to me. About anything."
Barry's heart clenched at Iris's words. The familiar urge to confide in her about everything, to tell her the truth about Eo, about being the Flash, was overwhelming - but he couldn't. Not yet. Hopefully someday but...not now.
Barry stood and Iris pulled him into a hug which he gladly returned.
"Call me if you need any help, okay?" Iris said as she pulled away, squeezing his shoulder gently.
Barry nodded, finally managing a genuine smile. "I will. Thanks, Iris."
He double checked that Eo was securely in the stroller along with his bear before heading out. The sun was high in the sky now, casting a warm glow over Central City as Barry wheeled the stroller out of Jitters. Only a few steps away, however, Barry's phone buzzed in his pocket. He tugged it out and glanced at the screen to see Cisco's name before pressing the answer button.
"Hey, what's up?" Barry asked though he'd barely gotten the words out before Cisco began explaining.
"Serious robbery at the Central City Bank downtown, they need the Flash, man."

So the Pipeline cells are made in like one episode, and Eobard's not going to consider the morals of having a secret prison to go with his less secret morgue. But mostly it gets built really quickly considering they only just found out about powers, only Eobard didn't, he's been fighting the Flash for years. He's probably spent the past fourteen years daydreaming up ways to capture and murder the Flash finally. How much of the Pipeline do you think he specifically built with trapping Barry inside it in mind?
(And then it's not Eobard that does that in the end. It's his friends)
I’m SO glad you said that because yes, I considered that too! Of course, Eobard was probably hoping to keep Barry as his ally (even if having the Flash caged and at his mercy would no doubt be very satisfying for Eobard), but as a contingency, absolutely. Especially if Barry found out about Eobard’s plan too soon and got any bright ideas of trying to escape…
And, of course, as you said…there’s a cruel irony in the fact that ultimately, Team Flash imprisoned Barry there, not Eobard. I’m sure he would delight in taunting Barry about that.
Ooh and here’s some more angst: per Elseworlds, Barry can phase through the Pipeline cell (well, Oliver can, but that’s with Barry’s powers). That probably wasn’t a thing before, because Barry is very obviously trapped in s2 despite his efforts to escape, and I can’t believe he wouldn’t have tried phasing.
Which makes me wonder…what if that’s a modification Barry added (or insisted that Team Flash should add)? A fail safe to escape so he can never be trapped like that ever again? Because friends or not, forgiven or not…they’ve already trapped him once. Barry would sooner die than let that happen again.

~~~~~
Leanna was hired by Dr. Harrison Wells to be his little helper knowing she also has a background in science and tech, with a strong heart. That moment he knew she was someone who keep an eye on.
She quickly became friends with Caitlin, Ronnie, Cisco and Hartley having other scientists and engineers of S.T.A.R. Labs join in on the fun of their friendship. Over her months, more like a year, of working with them whole team she developed a huge love and respect for them. Lea grew close to Dr. Wells having a small crush on the older man, little did she know he felt the same way. Soon enough the night of Explosion came and everything changed.
Later on Leanna was sent to recruit Barry Allen since doctor Wells wanted to keep the coma patient at Star Labs instead, she agreed knowing that they can probably help him out when the time came. 9 months later Barry woke up and training with his speed began! One night, Harrison spoke into the microphone saying, “Run Barry Run!” for the first time as his hand causally slipped onto Lea’s in a comforting grip and she smiled back, leaning into his touch.
Later on the two started rather quickly dating over that. Dinner dates, kisses shared, hand holding, smiles, late night talks and etc. Love was in the air, friendships grew, Team Arrow came to visit Central City aka Oliver, Felicity and Ray, Team Flash was at its highest point but The Reverse Flash was out there…
Later Leanna gets a feeling that Harrison is hiding something from her and she confront him about him, Harrison tells her it’s nothing. Until a few days later while she’s walking down the hallways one morning at the Lab she leans against the wall noticing how difficulty tougher the wall felt and stumbles into room in between the wall where Thawne kept his suit and Gideon. EoWells became the new name.
Leanna is in shock finding the information as Gideon greets her saying “Hello Ms O’Conner. But you are only that last name during this lifetime. How may I be of assistance ma’am?” Leanna ask her the questions she has. But before she can ask about article and Eowells real family history, her boyfriend sneaks in behind. Eowells was standing, as he sat in Lea his famous chair and questioning her action by entering the Time Vault.
Eowells grumbles and pinching his nose, “Lea my dear, I love you. I really do but I can’t believe you’ll ask Gideon AND NOT ME!”
Leanna glares, “Oh please, Harrison or should I call you Eobard? I asked you earlier and you refused to answer me! If you really wanted my help or something, you could’ve been honest…do you care about me or am I just a game in your plan to build Team Flash..?”
“I-I do care! I can’t have them knowing yet, I promise you I will tell them about who I am and we can be together forever.”
“A week.”
“I’ll execute the best to way to tell them.”
“Or I tell the team.”
“You wouldn’t dare, I can tell your bluffing my dear.”
That night lead to screams, heartache and anger for the pair. Eobard told her bits and pieces of his story, but not everything keeping it a lie and Leanna fell for it. He hated seeing her that way, noticing the light and laughter flickering out of his girlfriend that night, pulling Lea into his arms, he kissed her and begged for forgiveness. She didn’t even know what to think, but let it slide hoping he kept his promise.
As weeks went on, Eobard didn’t say a word to Team Flash BUT Leanna did! She revealed his identity to Barry, Cisco, Caitlin, Joe and even Iris as they all worked against him. Eddie died sadly. Of course they defeated Reverse Flash, Barry went back in time to see his mother and they created a wormhole in Central City. Ronnie and Barry stopped it as Leanna held Caitlin in her arms knowing how heartbreaking it must’ve been for her friend.
~~~~
(Season 2–3)
Months later, everyone was working once again at Star Labs after a break from the chaotic year. Leanna worked with Joe and Caitlin most of those months as a biologist and detective. She became friends with Penny and her sister Patty, eventually finding a video tape for Barry and handing it to him. On there the video tape Eobard Thawne aka FAKE Harrison Wells confession to the murder of Nora Allen and his faults towards his relationship with Leanna O’Conner, saying that her and Barry have inherited a chunk, if not most of S.T.A.R Labs.
Everything was turning up nicely until two visitors from EARTH-2. Jay aka ZOOM and Harrison ‘Harry’ Wells. The moment Lea lay her eyes on Harry in Star Labs, she felt like she saw a ghost, like she was gonna throw up. The girl didn’t know what to think the long hours she spend standing near Wells and trying to get to know him. Cisco hated him, saying he was a grump and a total dick while Lea kept watch while working on a few test items noticing a look in Harrison Wells eyes. Anger, confusion, sadness and annoyance. The same way she felt.
She told Cisco, “Sooner or later, every man shows himself.” And Harry did. He was a little nicer in a way with Team Flash, being mostly closer to Cisco and Leanna. The three could be bickering over everything! However Harry seemed to care about her, finding her presents kind and lighten up his mood every once in a while. He barley heard her laugh or smile too often but when he did, he smiled.
One night, Leanna was closing the windows in Star Labs and checking up on the rooms before leaving it all to Harry. She stumbled into one of the labs searching for jacket that held a small brown notebook she lost earlier during the week. “Ah ha! I knew I left it in here…” She said with a small nod, noticing a small black notebook that was open with nice handwriting inside. She smiled.
Harry walked into the lab with a half nod and taking a seat near the sets of tables, grabbing his black markers and a white notepad scribbling down an idea. He felt her eyes on him and chuckled slightly, “Yes, O’Conner?”
“Is this yours?” She asked with a small half smile, taking a seat in one the stools pointing to the notebook.
He turned around questioning her query and eyes widen at the small black notebook, snatching it of the table and closing it. He glanced between the notebook and her before he asked, “What did you..see? In this case of the notebook, O’Conner.”
“Just your handwriting, and a narrative in the way you wrote a note, like a storyteller. And a name.” She replied honestly, pushing her hair out of her face. Harry questioned her knowledge cue her to speak more and she continued, “The name, Jesse, popped up on that small note.”
“…my daughter, Jesse. I told you and your team that Zoom took her, while some of his Metas came here to Earth 1. I miss her…”
“I can tell you do. I have a few nieces and nephews, I know how it feels to miss children you love…”
“Why are you so nice to me?”
“Because, Harry, you aren’t like the others. I can see the pain and anger in yours eyes after losing your light and laughter, being your daughter…I know that because I felt it. When your told the truth and something you love is taken from you..it hurts.”
“You were hurt before, weren’t you Lana?”
“Yeah. I was hurt before by Thawne, friends while I was child..even told that a woman couldn’t do much better than a man in my line of work.”
“They’re idiots.”
“What?”
“I’ve haven’t known you long but I can tell enough. Your very smart, kind, understanding and a badass with a gun. Hell, you shot down three Metas this month and cuffed them in front of the group like it was nothing. You show a lot of love and compassion towards everyone.”
“I was taught well. But don’t sell yourself short, Harry. Your a genius and gentle, a bit grumpy but it adds to your charm. You’re very understanding about a lot of things and see a lot compassion in people, notice things that they don’t.”
It was like sparks flew between that in that moment, of course they pair was attractive to each other after some time working together but this month felt stronger than ever. Harry saw a light flickering return in her eyes while Lea saw a balance of hope returning in his. Lea’s heart fluttered softly for him and Harry’s heart beats strongly for her. Two kept their emotions in control, not knowing what to say or do about this feeling..
Until Christmas time came near and Cisco hung mistletoe in Star Labs cortex, in hopes to have Caitlin and Jay along with the other couples to celebrate and kiss. But Cisco Ramon didn’t expect to walk into the Cortex, to find Harry Wells hands cupped onto Lea O’Conner’s face with such joy as her arms wrapped around his waist lean in for another sweet kiss. The two were in their own little world all smiles and no sorrow..
Cisco cleared his throat with his hands on his hips and yelled, “Well, well, well, if it isn’t The Grump and The Lady!”
The two snapped their heads towards Cisco in utter shock and slightly annoyance wanting to kick him out of the room. “Ramon!” Harry yelled with his hands still gently cupping his lady’s face, “Don’t you knock?!”
“Seriously, Cisco?!” Lea yelled at the same time as Harry did grumbling under her breath.
Cisco just laughed while also in shock wanting to know everything about this situation. He swore to not tell a soul but it didn’t last long as he told Barry, Iris and Caitlin, even Joe and Jay found out. They didn’t know how their relationship started exactly but it did and it felt just right. To add onto the dynamic, it was honestly a adorable height difference, if you ask Caitlin.
The two were inseparable, with Harry always standing behind her as his hands, placed comfortably on Lea’s shoulders as if it was the most normal thing in the world. She would smile taking one of his hands, placing a gentle kiss onto her knuckles that always tinkered with items in the lab. They weren’t big on PDA however the couple always seen giving small kisses on each other’s cheeks and forehead.
Of course, they bickered and fought like an old married couple at least twice a week, even over the smallest things.
~~~~~
Plenty of things happened, Harry got shot by Patty, a few metas, Jay revealed to actually be Zoom, and of course the famous trip to Earth 2 to save Jesse…Let’s just say Lea met Jesse under the worst circumstances as Zoom kidnapped her as well for high leverage over Team Flash.
Jesse screamed, ranted and cried the whole time, in the beginning Lea felt sorry for her and comforted the girl. Until her temper started to rise and snapped at the poor girl, telling Jesse that everything will be fine and that she’s braver than this! Eventually Jesse stopped and started talk to her to figure out how to escape. Thankfully Barry, Cisco, Harry, Killer Frost and others saved them! They all returned to Earth 1 with a survivor of Zoom to reveal himself as the REAL Jay Garrick.
Everyone bonded, a few metas came in here and there. Harry, Lea, and Caitlin had to saved Jesse from going into shock. Lea and Jesse formed a bond afterwards. Plenty of other things happened as Barry’s dad died while trying to help them.
Eventually they defeated Zoom and everything was fine, until Barry created Flashpoint and you know what happened there! Team Flash was dealing with bigger issues due that change in the timeline order cause of the different Meta Humans, Caitlin becoming Killer Frost, Harry and HR, relationships blooming, the yearly crossover events and etc.
Forget to mention, Harry was a little jealous when HR would be flirty or anything similar to that with Lea. HR adored all the couples, especially Barry and Iris! But deep down he knew she was Harry’s lady.
~~~~~
As crazy it was, it was home. One afternoon, Harry walked into the lab to find Lea tinkering a equation for a biological connect between a few Meta humans and a new answer to Jesse’s speeding powers, getting a huge headache. He smiled, resting his hand on her waist kissing her shoulder tenderly. It was a rare occasion where he was the one easing her thoughts. Usually it was the other way around, with her being the one to do so, but it felt good.
Lea leaned into Harry’s touch and eased looking up at him with a small smile. They only been together for two years but it felt like they were the married couple of Team Flash with how comfortable they are around each other. She laced her lips giving him a cheeky kiss as he went in for another kiss.
“You forgot to add the 3 and subtract the 15, that’s why your having trouble.” Harry commented, taking the pen to fix the equation and being a genius, he solved it immediately.
“Of course I did. I’m better with a gun and genetic codes then rude math stuff..” Lea replied with a small huff, pointing to the paperwork.
“That’s why I’m the billionaire genius.”
“And I’m the junior biologist.”
“A gorgeous biologist, may I add.”
“I wouldn’t say that.”
“I would!”
Before she can replied or add anything else, Harry lifted the girl into her arms wrapping the love of his life into her arms grinning. Lea wrapped around his neck when suddenly she hissed her face laying on Harry’s chest, feeling a headache and a sharp ringing in her ears. His gripping stayed strongly against hers, rubbing her back until it passed and when it did, Harry asked, “Uh honey what was that? Are you okay?”
Lea whimpered for a moment and nodded, “I’m fine. I heard a ringing like a bell..or the elevator.”
“From here? Darling, your sure it’s not a headache…you’ve been having a lot of those recently.”
“No..it’s not.”
As if on cue, Cisco came in with a confused face holding a corn dog and texting Barry on his phone. He looked up and noticed the couple sensing something was wrong, Harry was skeptical, it happened out of the blue as he watch Lea’s reactions and his face lighted up.
Cisco tossed Harry his machine and they the used old Meta Human detector waving it in front of her until it’s started slowly beating a gentle as Harry and Cisco face lit up. After a few hours it was confirmed, Leanna caught onto elements of being Meta Human!
—-
Hours and days passed as Leanna O’Conner became aware of her powers that bounced within her. She had to ability to have enhanced hearing. Cisco and Harry were VERY proud they found out of her abilities firsthand while Caitlin kept her abilities a secret. That was until Cisco and Lea found out with Barry about her power set. They love Caitlin and embraced her new abilities, even if Killer Frost revealed to be a bit of a insecurity for her. But Lea was always by her side for all of it!
To say Lea struggled with her powers was a understatement, there were moments where she heard everything from a 4 mile radius and moments where she couldn’t hear anything at all. The first days she couldn’t sleep or think straight, having to wear noise canceling headphones that Cisco and Harry built for her or Iris hug her from behind to hush her worries.
Weeks past and everything changed for Team Flash, they’re team grew up but also downgraded. Since Killer Frost kept showing up making issues harder, Savitar kept wanting to kill Iris, Wally West got powers and started dating Jesse, and etc.
OH! The Invasion, The Musical Crossover Event and happened as well. In result, was a world wrestling issue for the teams as Supergirl, Arrow, Legends and others join in. Barry and Iris even got engaged twice, which everyone celebrated.
More Metas came to town, causing Lea to take action and step up even more with Team Flash, since she was always behind the scenes of all the action. Time travel happened and then it was the night of Iris’s death…
It was a crazy nightmare for Barry and the rest of Team Flash, fighting against time to save Iris from Savitar and Killer Frost. Stressful, heartbreaking and frustrating to say the least. In the end they won, H.R. swapped positions with Iris, as she went to kill Savitor with a gun she took from Lea.
There was a small funeral held for H.R. Wells during a somewhat cold rainy day, everyone dressed in black underneath umbrellas burying their short lived friend. Caitlin returned as Killer Frost for the funeral telling Lea and Cisco she needs some time to figure herself out but will return later on. A few days later, Lea and Cisco were packing up for a small trip to Earth 2 with Harry when a portal opened a few blocks away result all of Team Flash to take action.
The portal was The Speed Force wanting Barry to spend some time with them for a while, for his issues of messing with the timeline. It was heartbreaking to see Barry Allen go, Lea held Iris in her arms comforting the girl as she had to watch her fiancé leave for a while. Julian, Cisco, Harry and Joe stayed behind watching the mere sad action take place as a group…
