Visit Fort Duvernette
Located offshore from Villa on Young Island, Fort Duvernette offers a spooky tour of the past. This 19th-century fort is built atop a huge volcanic rock, and a boat ride will take you to see it. There are 255 stairs to climb, with great views of the sea from the top. It's a fascinating place to visit, especially if you love history or the sea.
Kingstown is a beautiful capital city, and it's well worth visiting for a look at the city's cobblestone streets, colonial buildings, and handsome churches. It's also home to St. Vincent Botanical Gardens, which are the oldest botanical gardens in the West Indies. The grounds cover 7.5 acres of rainforest and are home to a variety of exotic tropical plants, including hibiscus, cinnamon, nutmeg, and mahogany.
The Leeward Highway Scenic Drive is a 40-kilometer road that runs from Kingstown to Richmond Beach along the island's sheltered west coast. It passes through local villages, black-sand beaches, coconut plantations, and worthwhile tourist attractions. It includes Carib Rock, which features a carved face dating from AD 600, and Barrouallie, a small fishing village that boasts a Carib stone altar and petroglyphs depicting the tradition of hunting pilot whales.
There are also several day tours to other islands and natural sites on the island of St. Vincent, as well as guided hikes to the island's volcano, La Soufriere, and more.
The island's tallest mountain, La Soufriere, is one of St. Vincent's most popular attractions, and a guided hike to the top is a great way to see the island's unique ecosystems. You'll also have the chance to see lush rain forests, dark view waterfalls, and a rugged Cumberland Nature Trail.
Birdwatching is a major draw in the islands, with species like the endemic Saint Vincent Amazon parrot and emerald-colored ibisbirds hard to miss in their brilliant plumage. You can also visit the Nicholas Wildlife Aviary and observe these beautiful birds in the natural habitat.
You'll also find plenty of opportunities to spot turtles in the water at Tobago Cays Marine Park, which encompasses five idyllic small islands protected by reefs and ringed by crystal-clear waters. Many cruise ships stop here for a day trip, and the beaches here are popular with snorkelers, too.
A short boat trip south of St. Vincent will land you on the idyllic island of Young Island, a 13-acre resort with 29 private cottages overlooking the sandy white beach. You can opt to stay in a cottage with your own plunge pool, or rent a cabin with a thatched roof and hammock.
This island is the perfect retreat for those seeking a true Caribbean experience, free from the throngs of tourists and cruise ship crowds. A few days here will leave you feeling re-energized and refreshed, ready to tackle another island or explore the surrounding Caribbean.

Killing orcas? This can’t happen and can’t be allowed! 🦈 “The whaler whose crew harpooned and killed three orcas off Barrouallie, a town in western St. Vincent, on Sunday, has defended his action, saying that the kill is important to the livelihood of townsmen, and that they have broken no local law.” 🦈 🖋 Kenton X Chance 📷 iWitness News Article linked on our fb page #orcas #stvincent #orca #saveorcas #saveouroceans #saveourseas

Happy 38th Independence #stvincentandthegrenadines from @g987fm with @markstrizzzy @missjemeni 🇻🇨🇻🇨🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿 . St. Vincent and Grenadines History: . The first Europeans to occupy St. Vincent were the French. However, following a series of wars and peace treaties, the islands were eventually ceded to the British. While the English were the first to lay claim to St. Vincent in 1627, the French centered on the island of Martinique would be the first European settlers on the island when they established their first colony at Barrouallie on the Leeward side of St. Vincent in 1719. The French settlers cultivated coffee, tobacco, indigo, corn, and sugar on plantations worked by African slaves. St. Vincent was ceded to Britain by the Treaty of Paris (1763), after which friction between the British and the Caribs led to the First Carib War. The island was restored to French rule in 1779 and regained by the British under the Treaty of Versailles (1783). Between 1795 and 1796, with French support from Martinique, the Black Caribs, led by their chief, Joseph Chatoyer, fought a series of battles against the British. Their uprising was eventually put down, however, resulting in almost 5,000 Black Caribs being exiled to the tiny island of Baliceaux off the coast of Bequia. Conflict between the British and the black Caribs continued until 1796, when General Abercrombie crushed a revolt fomented by the French radical Victor Hugues. The British deported more than 5,000 black Caribs to Roatán, an island off the coast of Honduras Decades after the success of the Haitian Revolution, the British abolished slavery in 1834. The resulting labour shortages on the plantations attracted Portuguese immigrants in the 1840s and East Indians in the 1860s as laborers. Conditions remained harsh for both former slaves and immigrant agricultural workers. St. Vincent was granted associate statehood status on October 27, 1969, giving it complete control over its internal affairs. Following a referendum in 1979, St. Vincent and the Grenadines became the last of the Windward Islands to gain independence. It celebrates independence on 27 October 1979!
