This is going to be a little corny, but I have to talk about this. I know it’s not much of a feat anymore considering Time Walking TBC gives a boost for Netherwing Rep, but it means a lot to me I finally was able to get this. I was able to do this on my hunter alt of Gotosh and it makes me so happy to finally have the Netherdrakes. I started working on this rep when it was relevant in TBC when I started, and it was hard for me at the time to be consistent in getting it since I was younger and, didn’t really know how eggs spawned and it was always a bit to get out there. SINCE TBC , this reputation has always haunted me because they were mounts I desperately wanted. The Onyx Drake was the one I wanted the most, and last night I was finally able to get it!! I felt like I owned the me from long ago to get these, and it’s a huge relief and weight to finally obtain something I’ve wanted for long...this is for you little me (and me). Sometime after the Purging of Stratholme by Prince Arthas, a large slaughterhouse was constructed where Baron Rivendare commanded the forces of The Scourge in the Eastern Plaguelands. Heroes long ago have since routed out the scourge and dethroned the Baron and his usurping descendant. But there is a greater secret, not known to the mortal world, that dwell within the ruined city. A gate to the west of the Slaughter house still remains unopened for years after the retaking. Beyond it is a portal no living soul had ever crossed, save for one.

It was rumoured that this man, a Kaldorei, walked through the portal years ago, when the War on Outland first took place. He formed a guild of would be heroes that donned the title, “Obsidian” and they ventured forth into the world. Stories say they braved the depths of Karazhan and Serpentshrine Caverns. They fought the Lich King atop the Frozen Throne, and slew Deathwing amidst the maelstrom. They conquered the Thunder King Lei Shen and freed Orgrimmar from the Prideful Garrosh. Claiming powerful relics and forging great weapons from these cataclysms. Befriending kings, dragons, and gods alike.

These are all rumours, of course, with no basis of proof as the guilds name and each of these heroes have not been heard from in years. Save, perhaps, for one.

If you go to the inn of Anvilmar, during the worst of blizzards, you might meet him; a gnome. With vanilla cream hair and a mustache, he sits alone and drinks. His one good eye looking around suspiciously at any who approach with a hand on his fang-like daggers. If you listen close, and listen hard, you can hear him whisper:

“Banished to the razor blade lakes of salt. Punishment for speaking his name aloud. One week and three days he would leave us. But he was returned, for Tormaaz is great, Tormaaz is good, All moan the great, good, Tormaaz.”

To most, these are the ramblings of an old soldier who had long since lost his mind in one of the many great conflicts that have damned Azeroth over the years.

But to those with an inquiring mind willing to gamble with their life and the fate of the world, it’s the beginnings of and adventure to untold power...

2. What is this object’s classification? What are it’s abilities?

Similar to the Skull of Thal’kiel, The soul of Tormaaz the Gargantuan has been bound to his skull, damning him to never return to the twisting nether unless it is destroyed entirely. Though it wouldn’t have the same level of sass and subtlety as Thal’kiel, Tormaaz was a calculating commander and master of creative brutality. Where Thal’kiel once drained the power of near by demons to create a blast of power, the mere presence of Tormaaz’s soul empowers demons around him to go into a frenzied rage. A demonic evolution that brings out even the meekest of demons innermost savagery. But those that prove weak, would be sacrificed to further empower his armada.

4. How did this object come to possess a will of it’s own?

Because it always had one! it’s not an object given sentience like the staff of the guardian, but a living demonic soul trapped in it’s own skull like a prison.

5. How did you character come into contact with such a find? 

If he ever did follow the clues. It would be from the ramblings of that gnome. Only one versed in the Eredun tongue would recognize Tormaaz as a demonic name. Once that was heard, the hyper-fixation would be very real until the source of this power was discovered.

6. Would they use it? 

100% yes.

“I will redefine your understanding of pain and agony, whelp!”

Adventures in 3D Printing

Blizzard has released the STL files for their models in the Arclight Rumble game. They're sort of big and chunky and have a fun cartoony look. AND they released one for Baron Rivendare. Naturally I have to give my boy some love.

I think I'm on one of my last bottles of resin. I ordered grey but they send you a tester of a different color when you order a certain amount. Suffice it to say I was surprised to get clear green!

When I saw that the supported file was to be printed in one step I was a little worried, because it was so large and it can lead to more avenues for misprint. But the model came out well with only one error on Deathcharger's face.

But nothing a crack job application of greenstuff can't fix. Otherwise the piece is good. The sword is the correct thickness and there are no strange 'splices.'

For the painting I applied a simple zenithal highlight of a black base with a Wraithbone highlight. I went with the GW rattlecan because I had it on hand. Plus it has really good coverage. I did a little more shading with the transparent gray before laying out the colors I planned on using.

I started with Rivendare's armor using a combination of the Rumble and in game models as a reference. I ended up using a cooler purple for the plates. The skirt and Deathcharger's mane and skin followed as they are the biggest parts of the model. It is also easier to touch up darker areas than lighter ones, which is why the skulls were one of the last bits to be painted. For the horse's flesh I went with a warmer scale black tone to bring in some contrast. Finally I knew I wanted a strong contrast between the Rivendare's armor and Deathcharger's skull, so I made the horse's head much more yellow than I normally would.

The main portion of the piece is complete. I printed out a few gubbins this afternoon and I plan on shifting the rider to a larger base to accommodate. I would say that it DOES look like a toy and that the paint and technical choices to reinforce that. But I think I like it? At least, I think that is how the designers intend it to look.

The two brothers fall into a laughing fit. “A dead man and a half-demon elf. Even if we desired a marriage, who would even be interested in that?”

They pause a moment as a Blood Elf rogue clad in Orgrimmar guard gear pops in and says “HI!” loudly before vanishing from view.

“Not a fan of commitments,” Sana smirks, “Well, other than serving Illidan’s will.”

“If I could blush, I would,” Kadesti pauses a moment and clears his throat, “Baron Rivendare.”

“Kor’vas Bloodthorn,” Sana purrs, “Sadly, she’s not interested.”

“We have our dream home. A nice home on a high cliff in Azshara.. that we may have stolen from a mage. He died.”

“Jumping off cliffs, I always seem to land in bad places. They don’t look bad from above.” Sana  laughs heartily, exposing fangs.

I still have her!
