i recently went on a school trip to barcelona (we visited salou, barcelona, catalonia and tarragona all in this trip) and it completely opened my eyes to how much i love travel and exploring places away from my home

i’ve been on holidays abroad with my family lots of times before but this is the first time i was given more freedom and independence especially when it comes to the likes of taking care of my own things and belongings and taking care of a hotel room (i shared with two friends.)

it really showed me how much i enjoy being out of my own country (ireland) and i genuinely yearn to be in another country learning about the culture and just soaking up the overall atmosphere of the foreign place now that i’ve come home

this has completely shifted my view on the future and i’ve found myself thinking about the future under a different light than i have before

i have thought things like “i can’t wait to grow up” and “i can’t wait to be older” not wishing my youth away but being excited to turn 18 and be able to travel by myself and choose where i want to go whether in ireland or in another country

exposure really does bring knowledge because if i hadn’t have gone on that trip i would still view my future in a way that i’ll always be with my family at home and i’ve never viewed it in a way that id leave the country often and now that i can see that alternative pathway i really enjoy my outlook on the future and see it as a thing to be excited for rather than the dread i used to feel for adulthood

com tumblr és una plataforma angloparlant, la majoria de les notícies que circulen són de moviments i mobilitzacions als estats units, canadà, anglaterra, i altres països anglos. i encara que està molt bé construïr solidaritat interacional i assabentar-se del que passa a altres indrets del món, cal no perdre la vista sobre les accions i els esdeveniments que ens cauen molt més a prop.

Did you know that Catalonia once had a president who became a pirate? 🏴‍☠️

He was Pero Ximénez de Urrea i de Bardaixí, the 23rd president of Catalonia, in office between the years 1446 and 1449.

At the time, the Mediterranean was terrorized by pirates. Pirates sacked coastal towns and cities, robbing everything they found, raping and either killing or selling its inhabitants as slaves. There were various towns in Catalonia's coast that stopped existing because they were 100% destroyed by pirates and all its inhabitants enslaved and sold in Islamic countries or killed.

In this context, the Pope asked Catalonia to keep the pirates away. Back then, Catalonia-Aragon was one of the most powerful nations in the Mediterranean nation and, in fact, the Pope (Callixtus III) was from it. Pero Ximénez de Urrea had recently ended his rule as President of Catalonia and was Archbishop of Tarragona and Latin Patriarch of Alexandria when, in 1456, the Pope nominated him general captain and admiral of the 7 galleys that the Catholic Church armed to fight against the Turkish pirates, and asked him to comand the fleet made of these galleys and the fleet of the Count of Barcelona.

He did what was asked of him, working as a privateer and fighting off the Turks. But once it seemed like it was achieved, Pero Ximénez de Urrea used these ships for piracy himself. It was not unusual at the time for privateers (=people who do maritime warfare lawfully with permission or commission from a government to attack its enemies) to become pirates (=people who did the same but without a permission, outside of the law and attacking ships of every nation for riches), but this obviously caused him a confrontation with the Pope.

This is the first in a network of shelters in a protected area of olive groves. To avoid being detected, we have developed several camouflage strategies.

The walls are coloured with a mixture of lime, water and earth, and the openings are covered with metal sheets that imitate stone prints. The main chamber, just over 9 by 30 feet, expands through a series of underground galleries that serve as water, food, energy and waste storage.

Lady Solange Teresa Vivianne Cotoner-Artois (1848 - 1926) also known as Lady Solange Teresa Vivianne Cotoner-Frye and Dame Solange Teresa Vivianne Cotoner-Artois, as well as by her nickname "Noble Assassin of Tarragona" and her noble title as "Condesa de Tortosa" (Countess of Tortosa), was an Spanish Philantropist, Naturalist, Paleotologist Noblewoman and Master Assassin of the Spanish and British Brotherhoods of Assassins active during the 19th Century. Born in Tortosa, in the Provice of Tarragona, in Catalonia, Crown of Aragon, Solange was the oldest daughter of Carlos Rafael Cotoner y Moncada, Count of Tortosa and his wife, Aimée Isabelle Henriette Artois and older sister of the famous swordwoman Serena Hélène Josefina Cotoner-Artois. Rightful Heiress to her father's maritime business and noble title, she was raised into the Assassins Ways by Carlos and his sibilings, all members of the Spanish Council of Assassins, much to her mother's worry. She becamed a Master Assassin in 1866, after sucessfully killing her target, the Templar Raúl de La Cruz. In 1867, she was send to England to aid the British Brotherhood, as a spy along her aunt Desirée Charlotte Madeleine Pleydell-Bouviere to Henry Green, also known as "The Ghost". Solange played a important role in the Liberation of London in 1868, and later, she was of vital importance to track down the Piece of Eden known as The Holy Grail, along with avoiding the rise of power of the Neo British Templar Rite in the years of 1870 and 1874. After the Liberation of London, she married her fellow Brother-in-Creed, the British Master Assassin and Gang Leader Sir Jacob Frye. She was the one responsible for the truce and diplomatic missions to Morocco in 1887-1888 in amids of the Spanish-Moroccan political tensions, she was also responsible of the rift and tension between the Spanish Council and British Council, after she stood for their lack of action in regards to the Autumn of Terror. Solange was a direct descendent of the legendary Spanish Mentor Renato Valentino Cotoner, the one responsible to modernize the Spanish Creed in the 17th Century. Solange is a Franco-Spanish Assassin of Moroccan-Moorish, Greek, Russian and German Ancestry. Her family comes from Assassins and Knights at the service of the Spanish Crown.
