Stop what you're doing and look at this Ken.
This is the first Ken in the Ken Kouture line, announced by Mattel this year as being an ongoing series celebrating Ken.
For the longest time I didn't know what to say about this man. I just wanted to look at him. Look at him and wonder what was happening. Why does Ken look like this.
Then gradually I started to realise this is Mattel branching out into the Ryan Gosling Ken fanbase. Note this isn't a Ryan Gosling Ken - the movie Ken wasn't high fashion like this. But notice how they're marketed with words like Ken-rgy and Kenaissance.
This is a high fashion Ken aimed at people who already loved high fashion Barbie, but who were charmed by Ryan "I'm Just Ken" Gosling and wanted to show him some love too.
Incidentally, if you think this Ken looks kind of similar to the first new Barbie in the freshly revived Barbie Fashion Model Collection, I saw it too and that's no coincidence.
2024 is the 65th anniversary of Barbie, and both these dolls are themed around the traditional gift for a 65th anniversary: blue sapphire.
Side note, I should be better about shouting out the designers of Barbies I talk about, so do take note that this Ken Kouture doll's design was credited to Carlyle Nuera.

And Nuera has some really interesting things to say about him on Instagram.

It wasn't that long ago that I made a post about a whole bunch of new collectible drops, but there's been so many more that I guess if I want to talk about new collectibles I might need to start making sure I do these posts regularly.
One of them that I'm really excited to talk about is the new Barbie Fashion Model Collection doll - because it solves a mystery that I was kind of confused by!
When I posted about the Barbie UNO set, I said I didn't know what the black and pink dress prominently on the box was. Turns out I didn't know what it was because it was, at the time, not yet released.
In the time since I wrote that post about the recent collectors editions, a new Inspiring Women doll was also released; this one in the likeness of Chilean author and activist Isabel Allende.
It feels like everyone is talking about the Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn dolls, so there's not too much point in going into detail on them. I will say that I am not too surprised that, at time of writing, Harley is sold out but Ivy isn't - besides the enormous popularity of Harley, she also just looks better quality than the Ivy to me, if I'm honest.
(And I appreciate that they didn't use the Margot Robbie sculpt for her.)
I actually prefer the previous time Barbie took on Poison Ivy, back in 2004.
She isn't perfect by any means but I personally prefer it.
I'm a really, really big fan, though, of the A Tribute To Fashion Barbie, designed by Suim Noh.
She is described as being the first in a series about "historic couture", with an 18th century-inspired look.
"Inspired" is the operative word here, because authentic, I do not think she is. But I still love her. I think she looks incredible.

Barbie's "Gay Parisienne" look is one that copies directly from couture: the Yves Saint Laurent bubble dress!
In 1957, Christian Dior died unexpectedly, and creative control of his brand was given to his young protegée, Yves Saint Laurent.
Saint Laurent was only in control at Dior for a very short time, but the collections he created were some of the most iconic in fashion history. His trapeze collection brought youthful freshness to Dior's sumptuous designs and helped set fashion towards the future.
One of my all-time favorite fashion stunts was when Dior sent three of its models to Moscow. The chic, bright clothing stood out among the drab, frumpy every day clothes of the women of Moscow, making a brilliant display of the luxury that was missing under communism.

Doll History: Catwalk Kitties
Tagline: “Sleek, chic, and très magnifique, these fabulous felines do everything with poise and style! So get ready to strike a pose and strut your stuff, because every trend starts on the catwalk…”
Company Lanard
Debuted: 2005-2006
Height: 11 inches/28 cm
History
Catwalk Kitties is a series of anthropomorphic feline fashion dolls who work as models at the Catwalk Kitties modeling agency in Paris, France. Unlike other toys, there was a focus on making sure there was as little advertising as possible-only appearing in a few toy catalogs. The series designer stated that the dolls were designed with the aim of being profitable to Lanard with minimal advertisement:
“With the doll market being incredibly competitive, the goal was to come up with a new idea for fashion dolls that would instantly appeal to girls and be profitable to Lanard without advertising. I really felt that the only way to compete against Barbie and Bratz, who were both heavily advertised, was to have a new hybrid type of fashion doll. The idea for the line came from "hands on" manipulations, drawing, painting and markering, on a naked fashion doll body with an enlarged head. I brought a couple of trend tear sheets and a porcelain cat/ fashion/ collectible statue along with the rough model into a brainstorm to pitch the idea. I then worked with and creatively directed the talented group of artists & designers at Lanard to sketch and formalize all of the feline fashions and details that are uniquely the Catwalk Kitties. Traditional fashion and hair grooming play patterns were used by wrapping the world of modeling around the dolls.”
According to the catwalk kitties wiki: While complete dolls are rare on the secondhand market, It is common to find unused factory stock heads on sites like Aliexpress and Ebay. Many collectors purchase these heads and put them on the bodies of other dolls such as Monster High and Barbie.
