Straight from my notes app to you: Devil's Chord rewatch commentary
• Door behind Maestro looks like the tardis
Tumblr media
• That's my daddy -> mother father and other of us all
• Is the tardis a he/she/they/any?
• Maestro as the tardis's harbinger + H Arbinger disappearing when his song is sung?
• Is the tardis also an absent/abandoning parent to her children? Or are they just manifestations of her?
• Maestro plays the theme song. Cut to the intro, which the tardis is the active "host" of: her light is the first thing we see, she brings the actors' names on screen, she's the star of the action shots. Cut to the tardis playing the theme song on her jukebox
• Is the embittered musician who never got his break and had to go into teaching a mirror for someone? What about art as an expression of Beethoven's rage at impending deafness? "All the songs you never sung, wrapped around your heart"?
• Ruby's a musician and composer, but doesn't (yet) fit the bill. The Doctor is a musician and a teacher. That's all I've got so far
• The Doctor treating Ruby like an equal, not making fun of her Beatles idea like she thought he would, allowing himself girlish boyband whimsy over the masculine seriousness of the titantic etc - "why haven't I ever done that before???"
• Music/art as a comforting reminder of her mom's girlfriend who's presumably not in her life anymore
• Giggling and squealing and holding hands as they run to the makeover room
• The obvious "I've got a dog, he's not dead" foreshadowing. But also - the tardis isn't actually all that great at songwriting (or storytelling)? Their faces falling as they expected something good but got a lackluster song (finale)?
• Going back a bit - H Arbinger moving around on the page + the Chris Waites billboard near the end + Sue Tech + Bad Wolf + her penchant for writing words and wordplay across time and space
• The Doctor's suit in this is also a lil bit of a tardis disneybound, if that means anything
• "I love you, you love me, we are two, we are not three, we're happy, I think, perhaps" - commentary on the Doctor-tardis relationship?
• "Music is the highest form of thought" + "sonic" + all her psychic stuff
• Music is her domain, even if she doesn't totally "get" the human aesthetic expectations?
• Their first direct Susan interaction (since Isaac Newton) - "that's daylight robbery!" "that's me. Maragaret Lockwood in The Wicked Lady. Now there was a woman. Statuesque."
• The tardis faceclaiming? Tardis lesbian moment? What's the plot anyway
• "In 17th-century England, Barbara Worth (Margaret Lockwood) lives a privileged yet humdrum life as the wife of well-heeled landowner Sir Ralph Skelton (Griffith Jones). To stave off boredom, Barbara begins impersonating famed highway robber Capt. Jerry Jackson, stealing precious jewels and valuables from coach passengers. A chance encounter with the actual Jackson (James Mason) propels Barbara into a dangerous double life with potentially lethal consequences."
• The tardis starts living a double life as a villain to stave off boredom?
• People have been giving up music (art, fiction) because they think it's childish and embarrassing. "But Paul, when it's just you on your own, don't you think there must be better songs? Songs that lift you, and devastate you, and make you soar. Songs that are tucked away, somewhere, in secret at the back of your mind."
• "That's all I want. Leave this life, and go home to a woman of my own. Then why do I wake up crying?"
• (Both life without art + heteronormativity?)
• Putting notes (words) together "feels like the most holy thing on this earth"
• Paul starts to sing "words straight from my heart." "I love you, so much" (the thing the Doctor couldn't say to Ruby). Everyone's heads whip around. The Doctor drops a spoon (spoon lady?) Maestro appearing in all the mirrored surfaces and laughing
• The Doctor needs to embrace the embarrassing childishness of both fiction & direct expressions of love?
• Something in all this about Clara's Song, as the closest he was able to get to a love declaration in that relationship
• "You know what you are with your ideas, pal? Disgusting. You are disgusting!" Definitely something here about music and homophobia. Hashtag beatles yaoi
• The midsentence jump of "the world is darkening - I live over there."
• The Doctor suddenly bringing up Susan. This all playing out in the time period where he lived with Susan. His failure to tell Susan he loved her, to take part in her whimsical girlish interests without making fun of her, to stop repressing himself enough to find their common ground?
• "You have children?" "I did have. I will have." Starts to say what I think is the truth, then corrects
• The Doctor casually saying that she might be dead, then laughing through Ruby's attempt to hug and comfort him
• Thought the Doctor was holding a spoon at the piano, but it was actually his screwdriver. Which looks a little like a spoon this season?
• The Doctor revealing that he was watching Ruby perform before she knew him + the tardis possibly shaping her into a companion
• "I wrote this for my friend Trudy when a girl broke her heart." More music/art as love, gay love, and a memory of the people we loved who are no longer in our lives
• Ruby playing her own theme, like the Doctor played Clara's theme and Maestro and the tardis played the theme song
• The songs "locked up in your heart. So tight" for the opening musician also have some homophobic repression vibes
• Ruby playing her song (for the loved no longer in our lives) while the Doctor looks out at the city (where Susan is)
• And doing his Nine Slaying Off In The Corner pose
• The Doctor is instinctively scared of Maestro/the pantheon in a similar way to the boogeyman. "Why was I so scared? I love an ugly bug. I am an ugly bug."
• Fear of the pantheon/boogeymen as internalized loathing/shame? Maestro being a They specifically?
• The Doctor uses his screwdriver as a tv remote to turn off the sound
• Maestro undoes it by putting their tuning fork in a puddle (Bill's puddle ghost gf callback?)
• "Sound and vision" [looks right at the audience]
• The Toymaker "tore my soul in half. I can't survive that again." The Doctor being "torn in half" by confrontations with the pantheon (his self loathing?). Play and music as Doctor attributes
• "I'm sorry. But the power of these creatures [the things I fear about myself] is so vast that the whole world could slide into the pit"
• "Doctor. I know you're clever, and all that. But the world did not end in 1963" (when you abandoned Susan)
• So the Doctor has to prove her wrong by showing her that her life & loved ones are in ruins/irrecoverable too. Like he did for Rose when he took her to the end of earth, and like he tries to do by discouraging Ruby from speaking to her birth mom
• He lets her walk outside by himself, while he waits clutching the console with his eyes closed
• Snow Spotted (natural?)
• "Where's my mum?" (are you my mummy?)
• "I think without music, the human race goes sour. Without any way of expressing a broken heart, they'll go to war without even knowing why."
• Did the Doctor go to war because he didn't have any way of expressing a broken heart?
• "Then why am I still alive? Why don't I fade away?" "Because of me." Harry Arbinger, fading away. The tardis, looming behind them
• Ashes + snow + the dust of death
• Maestro says boo, the spotlights come on, the world fades away. Like the Rogue dance?
• The "daddy was so mean" thing seems relevant somehow
• So much Tardis Looming this season. Is there always this much tardis looming? Lot of her in dark colors & big & at the center of the frame
Tumblr media
• "Every song that goes unsung feeds me. I get stronger and stronger." Self loathing and the unexpressed
• "Aeolian tones across the whole of creation. And that lament [bows] will be my symphony supreme." The tardis and her grand finale
• How did Maestro get into this world? "A genius. A single silly man..." 👉 the Doctor
• I've heard people say Maestro plays the "Saxon theme" here (I think more for the 4 beat rhythm than the melody?). It also actively freaks the tardis out and makes her start flickering. tbt her growling at Rogue
• The Doctor assumes Maestro is controlling the tardis, like he'll assume Sutehk is controlling the tardis
• The tardis will only let him go back to 1963 (where Susan is)
• He kisses the tardis while whispering "I'm sorry I'm sorry" and (odder?) "don't hate me"
• She growls at them as they leave
• They keep doing dutch angles for some reason
• In a crisis, he falls back on old habits and underestimates Ruby (assumes he must be the genius who can bring back music and not her)
• The guitar as throwback to 12
• The infamous "I thought that was nondiagetic"
• And the infamous "hidden song deep inside her soul," which I still think is the tardis trying to make Ruby a mystery. But how much does Maestro (consciously) know about that? To what exent are they their own person? Do they know who the "mother and father and other of us all" is?
• "This creature is very wrong" + the songs for lovesick lesbians. Music homophobia strikes again
• Something about pianos in this ep as tardis analog? The Doctor assuming the beatles' piano, a machine used for great things (and by his friend Mrs. Mills), has some ambient energy that makes it the key to saving the world. Ruby's "How could they be inside the piano? It wouldn't work!" and the illogic of Sutehk and the tardis. Maestro's piano suit (and blue suit in this scene, matching the Doctor's disneybound)
• Ruby pushes in for a piano duet (collaborative art instead of lone genius)
• "Are you enough of a genius?" "Oh, I would never call myself that Maestro [yeah he would lol]. But I have lived. And I have loved. And I can only smile like this because I have lost so much. And if that's where music comes from...I can find the chord to banish you."
• But he can't (because he hasn't expressed his love and faced his loss?)
• Ruby has a small reaction where she looks like she wants to add a note, but restrains herself. Failed because it wasn't collaborative? The beatles yaoi succeeds because they were?
• Doctor gets trapped in a drum (the Master instrument). idk if there's any significance to Ruby getting trapped in a cello and/or bass
• The door between them and the beatles also kind of has the tardis windows/silhouette. But I might just be having door pareidolia now
• Beatle has a flashback to "I just wanna go home." "But we need you!" "Why? I'm no good at anything." Doctor mirroring/twice upon a time vibes
• And then Maestro gets sucked into the piano (our possible tardis instrument) while warning them about the one who waits (the tardis)
• There's Always A Twist At The End (and have we like. meaningfully gotten one yet)
• (Don't think I can blame this song being mid on the tardis though)
• Tardis prominently in the shot as the crosswalk lets them play giant piano
• Final shot: piano notes as we zoom in on the tardis and her door shuts. And then opens and shuts a second time, by itself, for emphasis

she’s an oc that came from a dream about 10 things i hate about you but also make it stranger things.  because so little is known about the henderson family this is obviously pure conjecture so pls dont crucify me about it.
they were the all-american dream. a father, a mother, a daughter, and a son. the henderson’s reflected everything that hawkins had come to hold dear.
growing up, kitty was a ball of energy and sunshine. flouncing down the house in fairy dresses with wings made from hangers and tights, playing outside, terrorizing her mother’s new kitten the way only a toddler could, she moved without regard for the opinion of others.
the only thing that seemed to satiate and eat up the extra energy was her introduction to ballet, though soon it would also consume the sunshine along with it.
the ballet class, held in the next city over from hawkins, gathered a host of kids from all of the surrounding cities. as such the pool of people kit came to know expanded across roane county.
staying strong in the face of the standard scrutiny that followed the strictness of the dance world, kit learned well how to stand her ground and let the cruel words of others go unphased.
she found solace in the friends she’d made at school- barbara holland and nancy wheeler. the girls kept her level, closer to the real world than the girls who let themselves get consumed by dance. they grounded her, kept the levity that kit never let out in the faces of bullies.
another friendship was struck with jonathan byers, given the consistency that their younger brothers hung out. though their friendship was mostly between basic agreements among pop culture and music.
even then, words still hurt. snide little girls would make fun of every piece of her they could see: her hair, her eyes, her smile, her nose, even her freckles and size of her ears. each piece of it was logged away in her mind, but she would never give in. she wouldn’t rise to the occasion or fight them. instead, she swallowed the words and the pain they caused.
kit would paint a smile on her face, ignore the words and carry on. dance classes were only three times a week with the odd recital, but the rest of her life spent in hawkins was warm and happy.
around the time kit was in the sixth grade, life at home started to degrade.
her mother was warm and kind, if a little erratic and aloof. her father was quiet, preferring to stand to the side while the remainder of the family unit carried on. kit noticed her father pull further and further away, though her mother silenced her worries. claudia cited that david was always a quiet man, always happy to watch the fun rather than join in.
while she could recognize the truth in her mother’s honeyed words, she knew there was more. rather than try and broach the subject again, kit focused on loving her family as much as she could, while she could.
as she attempted to get closer to her father, he pulled away. the more she tried, the worse he got, going so far as to strike kit across the face. instead of comfort, he only offered a gruff ‘don’t tell your mother’ before he walked off. rather than incriminate her father, kit only told her mother that she slipped in ballet. dancing en pointe was new, it wasn’t something to suspect, but kit knew the truth. and somehow, so did dustin.
her younger brother, as perceptive as his older sister and two years her junior, decided himself her protector. there wasn’t much reason; kit had learned her lesson after the strike from her father, but dustin couldn’t help himself.
the night will byers vanished was the beginning of the end of hawkins.
when nancy approached kit and barb about going to steve’s party, kitty had to decline. dance class had been moved to a later time slot. not to mention she had next to no desire to spend more time with steve, tommy, or carol.
when barb went missing, kitty blamed nancy. they were together when they arrived, they should have left together. instead, nancy abandoned her friend to get laid. kitty’s judgement and disappointment was impossible to get past.
instead of sitting idly by, kit took a page out of dustin’s book. she set out at night with a flashlight and a spare jacket, scanning the woods around steve harrington’s house in an attempt to pick up any sign of where barb had gone. the further she drifted into the woods, the more fearful she became. this fear was only deepened when kit happened upon a tree slashed with deep gouges. she didn’t know much, but she knew well enough to know that deer antlers scratched, not gouged, and certainly not in a way that looked like it had been done by knives.
following the trail, kit spotted a hunched figure at a distance in the trees. at the echoing sounds of odd clicking and squelching noises coming from the mass, kit crouched behind a tree. betrayed by a snapping branch, what she would come to know as the demogorgon reared it’s ugly head and roared. rather than stick around and wait for it to charge, kit took off, abandoning her flashlight as she ran from the thing she’d seen. without regard, she ran into the middle of the road, narrowly missed by a car that came blitzing down the gravel.
kit didn’t stick around to see who was in the car. she kept running, pushing herself all the way out of the woods and back toward her own vehicle. after speeding home, kit raced into the living room, out of breath and terrified. no sooner had she straightened up, dustin raced in, wrapping his arms around kit’s middle as he leaned into her shoulder and cried. after some clarification, dustin claimed that they’d found will’s body at the quarry.
after the dustin had gone to his room, calmed by their mother, kit went to her own bedroom. at the new silence, kit started crying, now soberly aware that between that thing in the woods and the discovery of will’s body, she knew barb was dead. not just missing.
the next morning, kit went to the byer’s residence, content to help joyce and jonathan with whatever they needed. the loss could have just as easily been dustin, and while the thought made her stomach hurt, she liked to believe that the byers would have been there for her the way she was happy to be for them.
the interaction quickly ended when nancy came around to jonathan’s aid. kit was still angry
a few nights later, kit was walking up the henderson’s driveway to collect dustin and walk him home when steve harrington blew past her, offering a gruff “here to collect your boyfriend? i wouldn't bother, he's busy with my girlfriend.” kit didnt understand, only rolling her eyes in his direction before she headed for the door.
after securing a job at the arcade, kit walked down the main road of hawkins, catching sight of “nancy ‘THE SLUT’ wheeler” scribbled across the theater marquis. steve’s complaint made a bit more sense, then, though the answers were not fully granted until she nearly got mowed over by jonathan’s car pulling into an alley. she heard and saw the blows exchanged between jonathan and steve, and the halfhearted attempt by tommy to join in on the fight. kit couldn’t be bothered with nancy, but she was worried about jonathan.
when everyone met up at the school gym, kit went with jonathan and nancy to set up the demogorgon trap, mostly because it was the only place her presence could justifiably help improve. she joined in on the hand cutting. steve comes in, nancy threatens him with a gun, everyone was massively uncool with it, including kit.
that about closes off the events of season one and the majority of her actual past in terms of friendships and family relationships.
updates:
kit works at the arcade, but when starcourt opened she got a job at the comic shop.
she attended the COME GET SHEET FACED party in season 2, but she was dressed as amalthea from the last unicorn, her favorite movie.
she walked into dustin’s room first, looking for a book she’d left in his room the day before. she saw dart eating mews and almost screamed, but dustin stopped her.
she hates steve less after he was nice to dustin.
she hates billy because he’s an obnoxious jackass, also he tried to hit her brother with his stupid blue camaro
wanted connections:

Born Losers
Barbara Skelton
Her Born Losers are mostly orphans of Manhattan ... Miss Skelton takes one from the purple darkness of Harlem to Mexico City, to the London Zoo and the Cote d'Azur, on a wild schizophrenic slide. She describes the meaningless sex battle with zest and accuracy. Her humour is alarming but never malicious. Here are twelve quite shocking little stories, cute as mad midgets, about Gloomsville. Nutty, as they say, as a fruit cake...

Beware The Ides of March 2023
Ides simply referred to first new moon,
which usually fell between
the thirteenth and fifteenth day
of a given month.
Smithsonian Magazine history buff

top ten reasons to beware the ides of march.
The following events all occurred fifteenth of March
across span of millenniums.
One: Assassination of fifty five year old
Julius Caesar, 44 Before Common Era Two thousand and sixty seven years ago conspirators led by Marcus Junius Brutus
stab dictator-for-life Julius Caesar
to death before the Roman senate.
Two: A Raid on Southern England, 1360 Anno Domini. A French raiding party begins
a 48-hour spree of rape, pillage and murder
in southern England.
King Edward III interrupts
his own pillaging spree in France
to launch reprisals,
writes historian Barbara Tuchman,
“on discovering that the French
could act as viciously in his realm
as the English did in France.”
Three: Samoan Cyclone, 1889 A cyclone wrecks six warships—
three U.S., three German—
in the harbor at Apia, Samoa,
leaving more than 200 sailors dead.
(On the other hand,
the ships represented
each nation’s show of force
in a competition to see
who would annex Samoan islands;
the disaster averted a likely war).
Four: Czar Nicholas II
abdicates his throne, 1917 Czar Nicholas II of Russia
signs his abdication papers,
ending a 304-year-old royal dynasty
and ushering in Bolshevik rule.
He and his family taken captive
and, in July 1918, executed
before a firing squad.
Five: Germany Occupies Czechoslovakia, 1939 Just six months after
Czechoslovak leaders ceded Sudetenland,
Nazi troops seize provinces
of Bohemia and Moravia,
effectively wiping Czechoslovakia
off the map.
Six: A Deadly Blizzard
on the Great Plains, 1941 A Saturday-night blizzard
strikes northern Great Plains,
leaving at least 60 people dead
in North Dakota and Minnesota
and six more
in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
A light evening snow
did not deter people from going out—
“after all, Saturday night
meant time for socializing,”
Diane Boit of Hendrum, Minnesota,
would recall—but “suddenly
the wind switched,
and a rumbling sound
could be heard as
60 mile-an-hour winds
swept down out of the north.”
Seven: World Record Rainfall, 1952 Rain falls on Indian Ocean island
of La Réunion—and keeps falling,
hard enough to register world’s
most voluminous 24-hour rainfall: 73.62 inches.
Eight: CBS Cancels
the “Ed Sullivan Show,” 1971 Word leaks that CBS-TV cancelled “The Ed Sullivan Show”
after 23 years on the network,
which also dumped Red Skelton
and Jackie Gleason
in the preceding month.
A generation mourns.
Nine: Disappearing Ozone Layer, 1988 NASA reports the ozone layer
over Northern Hemisphere
depleted three times faster than predicted.
Ten: A New Global Health Scare, 2003 After accumulating reports
of a mysterious respiratory disease
afflicting patients and healthcare workers
in China, Vietnam, Hong Kong,
Singapore and Canada,
the World Health Organization
issues a heightened global health alert.
The disease became famous
under the acronym SARS
(for Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome).

not a story that begins and ends on page one
My Barbara is a mixture of canons that have been presented by DC and headcanon, blended into a version that is very specific and personal to me. If you have any questions about my portrayal/if something is canon/etc, please feel free to reach out! trigger warnings include: parental death, car accidents, alcoholism mentions, guns, shooting, paralysis, the joker name . . . Barbara Joan Gordon age . . . primary verse sets her at 25, but flexible. open to younger verses as batgirl (19-22 or so), and flexible verse-dependent to make sense of other Bat-adjacent members. date of birth . . . September 23 place of birth . . . Gotham, New Jersey occupation . . . Archivist for the GCPD, operating as Oracle and spear-heading the Birds of Prey gender . . . Cis woman pronouns . . . she/her sexual + romantic orientation . . . demisexual & panromantic primary faceclaim . . . Sophie Skelton + logical, detail-oriented, extraordinarily intelligent, thorough, observant, loyal, resilient, quick-thinking and sharp - manipulative, short-tempered and hot-headed, cold, obsessive, tunnel-visioned, anti-social, logical to a fault, stubborn and hard-headed Barbara is the adopted daughter of James Gordon. Her mother passed away in a car accident when Barbara was a young child, and her biological father found himself unable to raise her due to his grief. James took in her with his wife (also Barbara, who was the baby’s namesake) and raised her as his own, finalizing the adoption uncontested within the first few months of her staying with them. Barbara is their second child, following James Gordon Jr., their biological son. Barbara’s intellect showed at a young age, and she flew through elementary, middle and high school, graduating high school early at the age of fifteen. Gifted with an eidetic memory, Barbara was easily able to commit just about anything to memory and she used her gift wisely. She was accepted into Gotham State University after graduating from high school, choosing to major in library science. She was thirteen when she first found herself dipping her toes into the vigilante world and found her identity as Batgirl, which would shape her life as she knew it. In truth, Barbara found a secondary identity in Batgirl. She’d been watching Batman closely since she was a child, and constructed a costume of her own. Jim had enrolled Barbara in martial arts at a young age, and Barbara felt confident in her skills and abilities...enough to construct a costume similar to Batman’s, the name ‘Batgirl’ floating in the back of her mind. After attending a charity event and saving Bruce Wayne from a kidnapping attempt (prior to learning he was in fact the vigilante she admired so much), she caught the attention of both Batman and Robin. It wasn’t long before the two revealed their true identities to Barbara, and she was initiated into the Bat family. Batgirl steadily became her favorite part of every day, be it training or patrols. She spent her days at school, working in the Gotham University Librar, though Barbara truly lived for the nights as Batgirl. Barbara pushed herself to every limit, and found that the adrenaline and the feeling of just doing something good was an addiction she’d never want to give up. Moreover, she found a sense of family with Bruce and the others that he collected to his cause over time. Barbara’s academic achievements continued, graduating with her bachelor’s degree before her eighteenth birthday and accepting a research position at the Gotham Public Library. Barbara spent her days working towards her doctorate and working at the library and spent most nights patrolling the streets as Batgirl. Upon finishing her doctoral degree, she began to work as an archivist for the GCPD, which aided her Batgirl-themed-adventures. Her vigilante dream was cut short when the Joker knocked on her door one night. He shot Barbara in the stomach, severing her spine; Barbara would need to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. After recovering, Barbara reinvented herself once more. She focused her time instead on technology, and developed a highly complex computer system that would aid the heroes she called her friends and family. With her voice in the ear of Gotham, she became the Oracle: an overwatch aiding vigilantes in their mission. With her system, Barbara was able to hack into even the most top-rated securities and gather information from just about any source. Before long, Barbara founded the Birds of Prey. The Birds of Prey were a mostly-female team of agents that she sent out into the field while she manned the computer as Oracle. While Barbara missed being able to be on the streets herself, she knew deep down that she was more helpful as Oracle than she’d ever been as Batgirl. Oracle had become a necessary and invaluable resource to her friends out in the field, and she was happy to still be in the game. Barbara maintained her anonymity, only a select few of her operatives and Justice League members knowing the face behind the voice that was Oracle. Barbara was sitting at the Big Kid’s Table now, with the Birds of Prey being a part of the Justice League and her operation growing exponentially.

What qualities do I value in others? Honesty, generosity, courage & a capability for friendship, meaning the capability of putting yourself out for a friend in distress when your own life is running smoothly. Most people are too selfish.

Margaret Lockwood in The Wicked Lady (Leslie Arliss, 1945) Cast: Margaret Lockwood, James Mason, Patricia Roc, Griffith Jones, Michael Rennie, Felix Aylmer, Enid Stamp-Taylor, Francis Lister, Beatrice Varley, Amy Dalby, Martita Hunt, David Horne, Emrys Jones. Screenplay: Leslie Arliss, Gordon Glennon, Aimée Stuart, based on a novel by Magdalen King-Hall. Cinematography: Jack E. Cox. Art direction: John Bryan. Film editing: Terence Fisher. Music: Hans May.
Entertaining claptrap about a Restoration beauty (Margaret Lockwood) named Barbara who seduces the wealthy squire Sir Ralph Skelton (Griffith Jones) on the eve of his marriage to the virtuous Caroline (Patricia Roc). But having married Sir Ralph, Barbara quickly becomes bored with life in the country, dresses in men's clothes, sneaks out by a secret passage, and turns highwayman. This puts her in competition with (and the bed of) the notorious Capt. Jerry Jackson (James Mason), the terror of the county's roads. Eventually the wicked are punished and virtue is rewarded, of course. The story needs a little more tongue in cheek than writer-director Leslie Arliss is able to give it, but it moves along nicely. Mason, as usual, gives the standout performance.
