Ladies Don't Write Music- 5th/6th November 2023 - update

Hello, friends! It's been a busy few days of writing for me and my naNoWriMo project. so busy in fact, that I didn't even have time to write an update here yesterday before I fell asleep after hitting my wordcount.

So, I am writing both my updates today, on Monday 6th November, which has been even prosier than Sunday 5th.

Yesterday, I realised I hadn't left my house in several days, because I work from home and the weather's been horrible (to the point that going out would even have been dangerous), so I remedied that with a walk. It was the right thing to do: a swash of fresh air was what my brain needed to oil those creaky gears, and I wrote a total of 2,217 words. I wanted to finish Chapter 9, but didn't quite get it done.

I've carried on working on it today, with a total of 2,693 words (mostly written this evening, although I did a 20-minute sprint before work this morning, too. Chapter 9 is finally functionally finished - I estimate another 500 words (oh,God!) and want to finish it tomorrow.

Time for a celebratory except!

I began to play the dance I had written for Barbara, bringing in a left-hand part that was fresh like a newly-unfurling leaf. But I couldn’t help thinking about the way we had left things, with harsh words and a cold goodnight, and how we had not spoken since. The figure I had seen skipping around in my head when I had written the piece for violin no longer looked like Barbara. Now the figure was a man, and he did not seem to be dancing alone.

And yet he was alone: his dance partner was not visible, although he was clearly dancing with someone. Every step, every turn, every movement of his hands clearly accommodated another person I couldn’t see.

In America, fathers, on average, have about three hours more leisure time per week than mothers. This “leisure gap” has been consistent at least over the past decade. What are dads doing with their extra time? For the most part, they’re watching TV, according to new Pew Research Center analysis of data from the government-sponsored American Time Use Survey (ATUS).

The fact that mothers feel more stressed and tired than fathers even during their leisure may have to do with the way they experience their time. Mothers’ free time is often interrupted, which may make it hard for them to relax, according to a study by sociologist Suzanne Bianchi and others. Moreover, a study by Shira Offer and Barbara Schneider found that mothers tend to spend more time than fathers in multitasking, and the additional hours spent on multitasking are mainly related to time spent on housework and child care.

DIE ERMITTLUNG - Plakat und Trailer

Regisseur RP Kahl hat das Theaterstück "Die Ermittlung" von Peter Weiss mit 60 Schauspieler:innen für die Kinoleinwand inszeniert. Der heute veröffentlichte Trailer gibt einen ersten Einblick in das künstlerisch radikale Projekt, das Kino, Theater und neueste Broadcast-Techniken verbindet, um einen eindringlichen und zeitgemäßen Beitrag zur Erinnerungskultur zu leisten.

Im Zentrum des Films stehen ein Richter, ein Verteidiger und ein Ankläger, die im Rahmen der Verhandlung auf 28 Zeug:innen treffen, die von ihren Erlebnissen und Beobachtungen in Auschwitz berichten. Weitere 11 Zeug:innen der ehemaligen Lagerverwaltung sagen vor Gericht aus. Die 18 Angeklagten werden im Prozess mit Beschreibungen der Zeug:innen konfrontiert und sollen Stellung beziehen.

Das Theaterstück wurde 1965 uraufgeführt und hat bis heute nichts von seinem Schrecken verloren: Es basiert auf persönlichen Aufzeichnungen, Zeitungsartikeln und Protokollen des ersten Frankfurter Auschwitz-Prozesses (1963 bis 1965). In unmissverständlich klarer Sprache von Peter Weiss zu einem lyrischen Klagegesang verdichtet und montiert, konfrontiert das Stück Täter und Opfer und lässt das Grauen in Auschwitz spürbar werden.

Nach einer intensiven, vierwöchigen Probenzeit haben 60 Schauspieler:innen den Text von Peter Weiss für die Kinoleinwand zum Leben erweckt. An insgesamt fünf Drehtagen wurden die einzelnen Gesänge im Studio Berlin Adlershof mit einem ausgefeilten visuellen Konzept in nur einer Einstellung gedreht - eingefangen von insgesamt acht Kameras.

In den Hauptrollen sind Rainer Bock als Richter, Clemens Schick als Ankläger und Bernhard Schütz als Verteidiger zu sehen. The original series of One Day At A Time debuted on CBS in 1975, and starred Bonnie Franklin as a single mother raising two teen daughters, with their building superintendent Schneider (Pat Harrington Jr.) also playing a major role. The sitcom was hugely popular in its day and ran for nine seasons in total.

Divorced mother Ann Romano moves to Indianapolis with her daughters, rebellious Julie (Mackenzie Phillips) and wisecracking Barbara (Valerie Bertinelli), where she struggles to raise the teens on her own.
