The Shadow Rising, Chapter 2 - Whirlpools in the Pattern

After an extended windy introduction to Tear…

PERSPECTIVE: Perrin, sitting on a chest in his room, while Faile paces. Perrin's started growing a beard, a callback to the times Egwene dreamed of him with a beard and Faile asked if he'd ever considered growing one, and Faile says it looks right on him, but it's itchy.(1) Perrin is growing it for her, though she didn’t ask and he won’t admit it, and he wonders how Mat would handle it.(2) He asks what's wrong.

Faile says Perrin deserves a better room, despite that he asked for the most modest one the majhere would suffer to give a best friend of the Lord Dragon. Faile adds that the Lord Dragon seems to have lost interest in Perrin, all his time is taken up with the High Lords. She wonders if "a man like that" can even have friends.(3)

She draws a deep breath, and says she's been thinking of leaving Tear. She doesn't think Moiraine will try to stop her anymore, since word of the Dragon is spreading. Perrin says Moiraine would probably even give her money for the journey if she wanted to go home. She asks if that's all he has to say, and he gets a little angrier than he means to and asks if she wants him to say that he wants her to stay. He does want her to stay, but maybe it's best for her that she leaves. It's dangerous here.

Faile seems to think that Perrin fears Moiraine tracking him down, but he says that's not why he's staying, he has a duty. She tells him not to give her "any of that hairy-chested drivel" about men doing their duty, he has no duty here. Perrin says he and Mat and Rand are all linked together somehow, how can he leave if it means Rand might fail? Faile asks if Moiraine told him this, he should know not to take anything an Aes Sedai says at face value... Perrin says he worked it out for himself. Faile becomes sympathetic. She left Saldaea to find adventure, and now all she wants is to leave. All Perrin wants is to be a blacksmith, and he's in the stories whether he likes it or not.

Perrin eyes the axe and the hammer, leaning against the wall opposite him. The axe is purely meant for violence, but with the hammer he can build things. The hammer weighs more to carry, but feels lighter than the responsibility and temptation of the axe. He picks up the hammer, just to enjoy the feel of it in his hands as he sits back down. He asks if Faile is leaving, and she says she doesn't know, he's left her in a fine predicament. He's not sure what he did, and she won't tell him.(4)

Outside, a cock crows. Faile says her nurse used to say it meant a death coming. Perrin starts to respond, but the axe falls to the floor. He only has time to wonder why it fell before it leaps into the air and flies for him.(5) He swings the hammer at it, knocking it across the room, but it flies back at him, blade-first. Faile tries to grab the haft as it passes her, but it tries to attack her. Perrin barely swings the hammer in time to stop his axe from hurting her.

Now he grabs the axe haft, and it fights him, trying to attack Faile again and Perrin at the same time. Perrin tells Faile to get out but she won't leave him. He manages to wrestle her to and out the door, and slams the door behind her, wrestling the axe again. Eventually it buries itself in the door, Perrin managing to get it over his shoulder instead of in his flesh, and the life fades from the weapon.

He opens the door when he realizes he doesn't hear Faile's shouts anymore, and she's frozen by how the axe was a mere inch away from hitting her when it stopped cutting through the door. She flings herself in a full glomp at Perrin, raining kisses on him, making sure he's alright. When he confirms he's fine, she slaps him for making her think he was dead. He catches her second attempted slap mid-swing.

“Please don’t do that again,” he said quietly. The smarting imprint of her hand burned on his cheek, and he thought his jaw would ache the rest of the night. He gripped her wrist as gently as he would have a bird, but though she struggled to pull free, his hand did not budge an inch. Compared to swinging a hammer all day at the forge, holding her was no effort at all, even after his fight against the axe. Abruptly she seemed to decide to ignore his grip and stared him in the eye; neither dark nor golden eyes blinked. “I could have helped you. You had no right—” “I had every right,” he said firmly. “You could not have helped. If you had stayed, we’d both be dead. I couldn’t have fought—not the way I had to—and kept you safe, too.” She opened her mouth, but he raised his voice and went on. “I know you hate the word. I’ll try my best not to treat you like porcelain, but if you ask me to watch you die, I will tie you like a lamb for market and send you off to Mistress Luhhan. She won’t stand for any such nonsense.”(6)

He thinks about how even Nynaeve was careful of her sharp tongue around Mistress Luhhan, and Faile laughs, saying he would, wouldn't he? Perrin's so startled he lets go of her. He can't see any difference between this and what he said before, but one made her angry, and this she seems to take fondly.

Faile asks if the axe was the Lord Dragon, trying to kill them. Perrin emphasizes that it must have been Rand's presence but he surely wasn't trying to kill them. Whatever he was doing, Perrin means to tell him to stop it, and right now. Faile wonders aloud why she cares for a man who doesn't care about his own safety. Perrin can't quite make out what she means by it. He leaves the axe buried in his door, and goes to seek out Rand.

PERSPECTIVE: Mat, smoking a pipe and playing at cards with some lordlings. He'd rather be playing dice, but the lordlings will have none of that peasants' game. Still, Mat holds the highest cards in three of the five suits, a hand that will generally beat most others. His luck's not quite as good with cards, but it'll do. He's got so much money in a couple of purses that he would once have thought he could live in luxury in Emond's Field for the rest of his life on it. His idea of luxury is different now, though.

One of the young lords says a Sea Folk ship docked today. One of their particularly fast ones. He adds that maybe his luck would be better with the Sea Folk than with this lot. Another teases that he must mean those exotic Sea Folk women, but he'd need all the luck just to catch a whiff of their perfume, the way they keep to themselves. A plain-faced lordling says maybe he should try with the Aiel Maidens, even if it is like asking a lion to dance, with all those spears and knives. All mirth flees the table. The only thing worse than the Aiel is Aes Sedai, and both are walking the Stone's corridors these days.

Another card is distributed, and Mat now has four Ruler cards, including the fresh one representing Tear. This deck is old: he's already seen some decks with depictions of Rand and the Dragon banner on the Tairen Ruler card.(7) It's ridiculous to Mat, who still thinks of Rand as a shepherd. Mat's only staying because there's still coin to be had, but he'll have to take off soon, to get out from under Moiraine's influence if nothing else.

He can feel the luck tickling his brain, not tingling like it does with dice, but he can be fairly certain nobody will beat four rulers. Everyone else seems to be slowing down their high-roller habits, some even hesitating to buy their fourth cards.

Mat decides to tell them the story of how he played a game called Maiden's Kiss with Bain and Chiad, as Rhuarc had told him he should do to get to know them. He never expected the Clan Chief to play such tricks. So he goes to one of them and asks them to show him, and before he knows it, he's got a collar of spears pointed at his neck. He could shave with a sneeze. Then each maiden took a kiss in turn, and if she thought it was a good kiss, she eased up on her spear. If it was a bad kiss, she'd push a little harder, to encourage him. He boasts that he got nicked less than he does to himself shaving. He half hopes some of these young men are fool enough to go asking the maidens themselves.

The ploy works, though, and the game continues apace until the plain-faced lordling asks Mat if he'll talk to the Lord Dragon about this latest declaration, that commoners can call lords before a magistrate. Mat jokes that yes, what would the world come to, if you were tried and judged just for having your way with a fisherman's daughter. The others shift uneasily, but the lordling continues(8) that yes, only you'd never want a fisherman's daughter, they stink no matter how you clean them. Farmers' daughters are best.

Mat reminds himself that he's here to gamble, and takes a long drink from his cup to keep from hitting the man in the face. One of the men changes the subject to the rumour he heard from at least three different people that the Lord Dragon is going to declare war with Illian. They all fawn over him and his ability to channel, making Mat shake his head.

One of them asks Mat if he'll buy his fifth card, and Mat feels the luck grow from a trickle to a flood as he tosses the coin. He knows exactly what side the coin will land on, and exactly what card he'll get next. Sure enough, the fifth and final ruler card. They raise stakes, Mat cussing in Old Tongue then cussing at Moiraine for having left him with holes in his memory for this stuff to leak out of.

Outside, a cock crows, and when Mat looks at his cards again, one is holding a small knife, and digs it into his hand. He flings the cards away, and hurls himself backward. The air thickens like honey, and time feels weird. The card with the knife, the Ruler of Flames, has gotten big enough to step out of her card and fight him. So fight he does. Eventually the figure disappears when Mat falls to the floor, and when he stands up, all five ruler cards are pinned by the daggers he'd been throwing at the figure.

The lordlings deny having seen anything, as they scramble around. None of them are like to gamble with Mat again, it was clearly directed at him and something of the One Power which they want nought to do with. Mat picks up his few things, including the pipe he bit clean through, and stalks out of the room, cussing Rand.

PERSPECTIVE: Rand, dreaming that Moiraine is prodding him with a sharp stick toward the Amyrlin Seat, who holds a rope halter for his neck. The dream shifts to Min and Elayne teasing him to come swimming with them in the river in Emond's Field, and Egwene running away, betrayed. Rand goes to wipe sweat from his brow, and his hand is rotting.

He wakes suddenly, soaked in sweat. He wonders why he dreamed about Min and Elayne like that, and he wonders how he could possibly tell Egwene that he doesn't want to marry her anymore. Not that he could anyway, what man could ask a woman to marry him when he has only a couple of years before going insane and rotting alive?(9)

He hears movement in the room with him, and assumes the void, calling up his flame sword. By its light, he sees Berelain, the First of Mayene, in a thin white silk robe. He lets the sword vanish but holds a trickle of the Power in reserve. He knows that Ber has been asking questions about him, and she hasn't returned to Mayene despite being free to after Be'lal was holding her in captivity.

He starts to realize what she wants, and tells her she should return to her bedchamber and see him tomorrow. She doesn't want to leave and only see him when he's surrounded by advisors. He says he's promised to Egwene, and she says she won't come between them, she wouldn't wed the Dragon herself, can she call him Rand?(10)

Rand sighs regretfully. She steps closer, having dropped her robe to reveal a flimsy nightgown. He pushes her back with a wall of channeled air. He tells her that they will not speak again except in public, and she should return to Mayene asap. He regrets it, just a little. She's very beautiful.

Outside, a cock crows, and Ber looks past Rand with sudden fear. He swings around, holding his flame sword again. The mirrors have come alive, reflections of himself have walked out of them and start attacking. He can't quite keep up with all three, and his strength starts to ebb. More reflections come forth out of bits of polished silver, candlesticks and such. He holds one in his hand and channels something into it, until it bursts and he feels stronger, like he reclaimed a bit that it had taken. All the small reflections have vanished, leaving only the three big ones.

Rand lets go of his sword, and the three reflections lose their swords and lunge at Rand. They wrestle in a pile, and Rand channels into and through them until one vanishes, and he grows stronger. Then the other two disappear together. He thinks this must be Forsaken work, unless the DO is free already, in which case it wouldn't have been as easy as it was.(11)

He remembers Ber, and she flinches away as he approaches, asking which one he is. He says he's the only one, the one she was treating as if they were betrothed. She apologizes, frightened, and swears never to offend him again. She offers to send in the Aiel or one of the Aes Sedai to heal him. He asks her simply not to tell anyone what happened here, and she gives him a tight curtsy and hurries out.

Limping to the foot of the bed, he lowered himself into the chest there and laid Callandor across his knees, bloody hands resting on the glowing blade. With that in his hands, even one of the Forsaken would fear him. In a moment he would send for Moiraine to Heal his wounds. In a moment he would speak to the Aiel outside, and become the Dragon Reborn again. But for now, he only wanted to sit, and remember a shepherd named Rand al’Thor.(12)

(1) I have never been in possession of a beard I grew myself, but I assume it's part getting used to the feeling of the length of the hair touching his face, and part "buddy you need some beard conditioner and oil". (2) I can't say that either Mat or Rand would communicate more but you should. (3) The narrative is certainly setting up for that to be an ongoing question-theme, isn't it? Can a man be a hero and still be a man? (4) Perrin's definitely feeling pretty tied to Faile, and she to him. Despite or because of her kinda messed up relationship dynamics, he has no clue that she's feeling just as tied to him. (5) Just a coincidence, after he was thinking about its temptation? (6) Do you think Mistress Luhhan would take Perrin's side, or Faile's, in this? Not that we know her very well, of course, but we got a fair insight into the mannerisms of the women in Emond's Field back in book 1. And Alsbet Luhhan was one of those who took up arms in defence of the town when the Trollocs hit. (7) One of those odd historically accurate details! Playing cards were obviously handmade before factories, and in France particularly the rulers would be in the likeness of real rulers from history. Why not make them in the likeness of contemporary monarchs and rulers? (8) Ah, gotta love (no wait, the other thing) a man so up in his privilege he doesn't realize even his buddies think he's going too far for polite company. (9) You know, I thought they'd had this conversation already, two books ago, but sure let's forget that happened. (10) Berelain is ruthless in the "will do absolutely anything in her power to secure her country's continued existence". Not inherently a bad way, but this isn't the seduction that'll work on one of these farmboys. (11) So maybe it wasn't Rand causing those other troubles after all, but whatever it was, it hit him as hard as anyone. (12) And Rand, poor Rand. The joke in the fandom is that everybody hates him, but I gotta admit he's struggling with a hell of a lot. A year ago he was in the Two Rivers waiting for Winternight and Bel Tine, and now he's the conquering hero-lord of Tear, the Dragon Reborn, and a giant walking bullseye who can end up getting everyone else around him killed. All this on top of knowing the fate of any man who can channel in this world. And given who he is, he'll have to. He can't resist it even if he wants to, because he's, well, he's the Dragon. There is no other choice. Poor lad.

Kaminoan: Phonetic Inventory and Counting System

While discussing clone things with @daitoshi​, they offhandedly mentioned the weirdness of the number of clones in a batch (and incidentally the general structure of the GAR). Apparently this was all the inspiration I needed to decide I was going to create base-4 counting system for the Kaminoans. 32 clones per batch seems pretty random, but it is just 2 x 16 (2 x 4^2), so in a base-4 system, it’s no more random than say 200 (2 x 10^2) is in base-10. Base-4 also ties in thematically with DNA irl, so that’s fun for a bunch of cloners!

I’ve put together a guide to my process and rules for the enjoyment of all. And by enjoyment, I mean frustration because this counting systems it incredibly upsetting.

We normally assume most human counting systems are base-10 due to our (standard) number of fingers. How the heck to do count to four with three fingers, then?? Well, this is how Imma say the Kaminoans count on their fingers:

Does it make sense? I guess. Does it seem probable? Not really. But the joy of conlanging and worldbuilding for aliens is you can always just be like, “Whatever, their alien brains are built differently.”

Anyways, we’re gonna want some names for these numbers, so we gotta come up with some mouth sounds to represent them.

We do not have a lot of canon (or legends) words for Kaminoan stuff, and what we do have is of course plagued by the same issue that every collection of made up words in SW suffers from: absolutely no internal consistency. Okay, well maybe there is some internal consistency, so let’s look at what we got:

Taun We, Lama Su, Nala Se: these are iconic of the vibe I want the phonetic system to embody. So, what features from this data set should I keep for the phonetic inventory?

I dismiss Glascretia and Razoral outright since they have a very “fake English vibe.” Same with Protas and Melkorr, since they just seem to be plays on Proteas (Greek myth) and Melkor (Tolkien) respectively. Also, I throw Halle Burtoni right out the window because every other Kaminoan we meet sounds like their name came from the same language. What the heck happened here?? Whatever language she’s named in, it’s not the one I’m building.

Get rid of thalina, too; I don’t like the <th> just because. Additionally, I’m not sure what the <h> in nahra represents (is it silent? pronounced? part of a digraph with <r>????), so we’re gonna ignore it for now. Finally, the terminal <d> in uded doesn’t fit the vibe I want to go for. I consider keeping the terminal <s> in Su Des but eventually decide against it.

From Tal An and Erla, I decide that approximants can occur finally.

I take <c> and <k> to represent the same phoneme.

For absolutely no good reason, I have always assumed the <wh> in aiwha was inspired by Maori, so I’ll count that as one phoneme. However, I decide to have all approximants have a voiced and voiceless form. So, I end up not using the Maori rendering anyways.

Great, overall we’ve got what looks like it could be a very CV syllable structure. In order to match the vibe I’m going for, I won’t complicate that too much.

We have several C<l> consonant clusters, so we’ll say that it can occur initially. And since we said all approximants can occur finally, we’ll just say all approximants can occur in this position, too. Plus, since I’m mostly just doing this project to amuse Daitoshi, this also allows for their OC’s name to be permissible in the system.

Yay! Let’s work on naming some numbers now.

We’ll obviously want unique names for 0-4. Additionally, the number 9 is very significant in the GAR; squads consist of nine troopers, so every other division ends up divisible by nine. Cool, let’s give 9 a unique name and let it play a role in counting. I also give 36 and 144 unique names, thinking of things like “dozen” and “gross” and “score” in English. Aside from these, we’ll want the various powers of 4 to be something simple.

Additionally, I decided to create a numeral system (I mean, it’s only four characters, so why the heck not?) very loosely inspired by the structure of the DNA nucelobases (adenine, guanine, thymine cytosine), so here’s that:

If the larger integer appears first, it is added to the following. Aside from a few of the earlier numbers, it’s pretty regular! 9 lends its name to its multiples, and of course 36 (and 144) have unique names, as mentioned above. After hitting 64, the numbers repeat (the same way that they do in English after 100).

Media & Cultural Studies 5 Final Project: BROCKHAMPTON & Social Media

Written Portion

BROCKHAMPTON is a young group of male artists that began in San Marcos, Texas. This group came about because the now leader and founder, Kevin Abstract, posted on a fan forum blog and asked if anyone was interested in starting a band. People responded, and in 2014, Kevin and a couple of the band members all met up in San Marcos, Texas where they moved in together and began to create, record, and produce music. Their goal was to eventually make it to Los Angeles, California  where they could promote their music more and one day, make it big. The new up and coming boyband, BROCKHAMPTON, is a primary example of how social media influences and affects new millennial artist and musicians of the 21st century in a positive way. This can be seen through how BROCKHAMPTON formed, how they were able to spread their music and get a record deal, and how they promote themselves.

BROCKHAMPTON is an iconic group who used modern technology to their advantage to aid them in becoming as big as they are today. BROCKHAMPTON consists of eleven young men, all between the ages of 20- 24 years old. They are a very diverse group with people from different backgrounds, stories, and races. The band consists of artists like Kevin Abstract, Matt Champion, Joba, and other artists and videographers who all come together to produce, write, sing, and rap. The young men are from all over the United States and come from places like Texas, Connecticut, South Carolina and Florida (just to name a few). Although they are still very much a lowkey, indie rap group, they are a very strong, united, and tight knit band. BROCKHAMPTON essentially formed because or via the internet. Without the public fan based Kanye West forum (kanyetothe.com) the members would not have met or come together to form the group. This shows just how influential, important, and relevant social media is today, and how deeply it affects our culture. This forum alone and the way the group formed is an example of a “one-to-many form of Mass Communication” (Croteau & Hoynes, page 7). This is because the public forum they met on is a place where many people with common interests can come together to discuss and relate to each other. As said in the article, “If the media disappeared, nothing else would be the same… our world would be much ‘smaller’ because we would know little beyond our direct experience and much ‘slower’ because the pace of information reaching us would be greatly decreased” (Croteau & Hoynes, page 5).  Thus, without social media, it would have been almost impossible for the young men to have met and formed. Because they all had at least two things in common- they liked Kanye West and they had access to the internet- this group was able to come together to meet, bond, form and help each other achieve their goals of becoming rappers.

BROCKHAMPTON has also used and taken advantage of Spotify to essentially promote themselves and their music to get a record deal. Instead of having to play at bars or gigs to hopefully be heard by someone famous or powerful to get a record deal, they have used Spotify to stream their music and make it available to the world. They just recently signed to RCA records, where they will (reportedly) be given $15 million to make around six new albums within the next three years. This will aid them in producing, gaining a bigger audience, promoting themselves to other artists, and hopefully their careers taking off even further. By doing focusing on one or two platforms like Spotify or even Youtube to upload their content and music, BROCKHAMPTON has used “audience fragmentation”. Audience fragmentation is when “individual segments of the audience are becoming more narrowly defined; the audience itself is less of a mass media” (Baran, page 37). In other words, BROCKHAMPTON has focused on specific social media platforms that are more accessible to the public today. Because the band members are young, they know what is trending and where they should focus their content, music, and energy to reach their targeted audience. They can also spread their music quickly and widely. Thus, BROCKHAMPTON is reshaping the way artists their content and expose others to their music to get a record label. They now use Spotify or Youtube - free and easy - instead of playing live at bars or having to book gigs.

Additionally, because of social media and its popularity continuing to grow, BROCKHAMPTON was and is able to promote themselves through (social media) platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. Social media platforms like these are all free and open to the public, thus having zero to little cost for BROCKHAMPTON. They are user friendly and are easily accessible to all. Because of this, small, low budget up and coming artists like BROCKHAMPTON are able to efficiently spread information about their concerts and tours. They are able to spread their music to fans and the public within seconds, by a mere touch of a screen. Without social media, BROCKHAMPTON would not have been able to spread their music quickly and widely, as they have. Thus, the group would not be as famous as they are now. Social media has really changed the way people access their news and music. From terms and actions like “trending” or “going viral”, social media has made the world very small and open for all. Today, on social media platforms, entertainment is more of a focus. As stated in the article “The Power and Political Economy of Social Media” by Christian Fuchs, “entertainment and music are very popular on Youtube and Facebook, whereas politics is a minority interest” (Fuchs, page 99). This means that the public today go on these social media sites and platforms to purposely find and listen to new artists and entertain themselves. This is how the world networks and intertwines today. Therefore BROCKHAMPTON uses this 21st century social media craze to their advantage in order to achieve their goals of making it big in the entertainment industry. Without social media, BROCKHAMPTON would not be where they are today. Social media has benefitted, made it easier, and expedited the process for BROCKHAMPTON and artists like them to form and gain popularity.

To conclude, this group is a true testimony to technology now-a-days and how it can change lives for the better. From forming the band, to getting signed by a record label, and being able to promote one’s self, social media alone can now aid in forming an artist(s) and essentially make an artist(s) famous. BROCKHAMPTON is just one example of how social media influences and affects new millennial artist positively. BROCKHAMPTON would not be as famous as they are today without social media because of its accessibility, availability, and popularity. BROCKHAMPTON is a boy band that is a direct reflection of what media is today and how it can be used in a positive way to bring people from all over the world together.

An Adaptive God Eater originally belonging to Baran and later re-contracted to Chrysanthemum.

Born to a scientist within Port Baran, Rekka never knew her mother nor did she receive answers as to her fate. Rather, she was trained as a tool as all AGEs are within Port Baran. Due to this Rekka tends to be rather guarded around even those she knows, and has moments of awkwardness upon meeting strangers. She struggles with her own sense of self, witnessed by those she takes a shine to once they break through her demeanor.

Because she was born to a leading scientist, Rekka was often the AGE testing new technology within Port Baran, receiving the brunt of many initial side effects of the budding technology. She has survived by her own will and become stronger and more reliable for it, however it has left her with several hang ups to work through in life.

Extra Notes

- Due to the limitation of character creation, Rekka’s GE3 screenshots will be missing her tattoos. Be aware that she does still retain these in this verse. Likewise, in screen grabs her hair will be covering the wrong eye--these will be corrected later in icons when I can properly flip the image to retain the correct eye hidden behind her hair.

- Her father, Ba’al, is a scientist generally contracted in Port Baran. He is one of the leading scientists there.

Aston Villa away fans who defeated Manchester United mocked Cristiano Ronaldo (36).

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Aston Villa in the sixth round of the 2021-22 season Premier League (EPL) held at Old Trafford, Manchester, England on the 25th at 8:30 pm (Korean time). As a result, United suffered their first loss of the season and placed 4th in the league (13 points).

On this day, Manchester United started using the 4-2-3-1 formation. Ronaldo was at the forefront, followed by Pogba, Bruno and Greenwood. McTominay and Fred worked together in midfield, while Shaw, Maguire, Baran, and Wan-Bissaka were paired up for the 4th. The goal was kept by De Gea. Aston Villa faced Watkins, Ings, Mings and Konsa.

It was a match that was expected to give Manchester United the upper hand. Manchester United were on an unbeaten streak since the start with 4 wins and 1 draw in 5 matches before this match. The defense that Baran arrived as Maguire's centre-back partner was strong, and above all, Ronaldo returned to Manchester United after 12 years, giving him a great boost in attack. Manchester United are expected to take on Aston Villa at home.

However, the opposite result was obtained. United made 28 attempts against Villa but failed to score a single goal. Rather, he conceded the winning goal to Hause from a corner kick in the 43rd minute of the second half. Just before the end of the game, they had an equalizer opportunity with a penalty kick, but Bruno missed and Aston Villa won.

As a result, Manchester United failed to gain points and missed the opportunity to rise to the top. Liverpool drew 3-3 against Brentford, and as Chelsea lost 1-0 to Manchester City, rivals lost three points, but so did Manchester United.

The action of Aston Villa fans who could not hide their joy after the game was a topic of discussion. They ridiculed Ronaldo, who returned to Manchester United this summer and performed well. Ronaldo also started against Aston Villa but failed to score despite playing full-time. He attempted a total of four shots, but no shots on target.

British 'Give Me Sports' reported that "Aston Villa away fans ridiculed Ronaldo in an iconic ceremony outside Old Trafford after the victory." In the video released by this media, Aston Villa fans gathered in a circle, and one by one, they were doing a 'heavy ceremony'.

My Little Pony crossovers and collabs that I want to see happen- Part 1

(In no particular order)

Fashion

My Little Pony x Minori– this person is a revolutionary model who reinvented “Shironuri” (painted in white) street fashion in Harajuku, Japan. She has been featured in Vogue and has an international following. Moore often than not, her artistic outfits consist of soft and flowing pastels, which would work quite nicely with MLP’s image and pastel ponies. Ideally, the pony I would like to see utilized in this collaboration would be Rarity, who is also a fashionista and well versed in the art of style, but also Fluttershy, who has had her moment in the spotlight with modeling, but is also quite knowledgeable about sewing as well. Perhaps also to be considered is Celestia, as her color scheme would work nicely with the Shuronuri theme and iconic styles of Minori, who best utilizes the fashion; along with a possible dusting-off and reappearance of the g3 original character, Kimono in the style of g4 (or g5)- for obvious reasons.

My Little Pony x Moi-même-Moitié– this gothic lolita fashion brand is iconic in Japan, and was created by the visual kei gothic metal band, Malice Mizer/ Moi Dix Mois’ leader and guitarist, Mana. While the image of this brand doesn’t necessarily mesh with a bright and pastel little ponies, there are a few darker-themed lines of this popular toy brand that could work nicely with it; case in point, the Ponymania collection. While they seemed more like a mishmash of visual kei rock, gothic lolita, and sweet lolita all rolled into one, a second attempt at this Ponymania theme, in collaboration with Mana’s fashion brand, with Ponies such as Moonlight Raven, Rarity, Twilight Sparkle, Princess Luna, and Inky Rose would be perfect for this.

Music/ Vocals

My Little Pony x Yoshiki– a Japanese musician, songwriter, composer, record producer, and co-founder of the heavy metal visual kei band, X Japan. This guy is pretty major, as he was requested by the Japanese government to compose and perform a song for the Emperor’s coronation, has a radio station named after him, collabed with American comic book legends like Stan Lee and Todd McFarlane (as well as a guest of honor at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo), along with music legends like KISS, designed theme songs for the Golden Globe Awards, played a concert in Madiison Square Garden, has a hologram of himself, and so many more monumental achievements. As to why I think MLP should collab with him, he is a phenomenal musician and songwriter. If he were to work with Daniel Ingram or just standalone, I suspect that future songs for any reboot series for MLP would be equally exquisite.

Animation and Story Direction

My Little Pony x Hayao Miyazaki– One of Japan’s highly respected and most prominent film directors/ producer/screenwriter/ animator/ author, manga artist/ co-founder of studio Ghibli who is responsible for a laundry list of amazing animated films like Spirited Away (which won an Acadamy Award for best Animated Film (making it the only hand drawn animated film and non-English-language animated film to win that award), and was the highest-grossing animated film in Japanese history, and overtook Titanic, at the time, as highest-grossing film worldwide). A collab with this man would be refreshing, as like MLP, many of his works are characterized by themes such as environmentalism (humanity’s relationship with nature and technology), pacifism (the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic in a violent world), feminism, love, and family. In addition, The protagonists of his films are often strong girls or young women. Miyazaki has described his female characters as “brave, self-sufficient girls that don’t think twice about fighting for what they believe in with all their heart”, stating that they may “need a friend, or a supporter, but never a saviour” and that “any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man” For a show about ponies that promote love and friendship, a collab with a person such as this seems ideal.

Anime (Animation)/ Manga

My Little Pony x Star Darlings– This would be an ideal collab to make a reality in order to promote Hasbro’s IP: Namely, through the production and promotion line of a g1 (perhaps anniversary related) spinoff that would allow them to finally produce a group of long-time prototype ponies called the “celestial ponies”/ “Fancy Swirl” ponies, especially since there has been a bit of hype amid the Gen 1 community of pony collectors, which they’ve been trying to get noticed and made by a company called Bridge Direct/ Basic Fun. With their celestial theme, they would pair and play nicely with the Disney Star Darling franchise in collaboration, whose characters are based off the 12 astrological symbols and live in a setting called Starland, in the celestial skies.

Voice Acting & Series Appearances

My Little Pony x Wanda Sykes– An American voice actor, comedian, and writer. This is one person who has quite a distinctive voice and plays in a number of comedic roles, such as “Granny Sloth” in “Ice Age”, “Stella the Skunk” in “Over the Hedge”, and “Barb Baran” in “The New Adventures of Old Christine”. She was also named one of the top 25 funniest people in America by Entertainment Weekly. There’s no doubt her memorable voice acting could bring a fresh dose of comedic relief on MLP, especially in union with Pinkie Pie.

My Little Pony x Whoopi Goldberg– An American actress, comedian, author, and tv host. She is one of the few people to have won an Oscar, a Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award. Her voice is also iconic, and she has had many roles in films and series such as “Star Trek- the Next Generation”, “How Stella Got Her Groove Back”, “The Color Purple”, and “Sister Act”; while also VA’ing a character, “Shenzi the Hyena” in “The Lion King”. Due to her comedic and Voice acting background, she could also bring a hint of comedy and acting talents to the MLP series.

Other:

Moon Dreamers x Star Darlings– While not necessarily a My Little Pony related crossover, it is one with another one of Hasbro’s Intellectual Properties, “Moon Dreamers”. This would provide a good opportunity for Hasbro to dust off one of its older IP’s and revitalize a long dead toyline from the 80’s.

With Moon Dreamers, they are insanely similar to a more recent IP made by Disney, called “Star Darlings”. One IP’s characters works with dreams, while the other series’ characters works with wishes, and correct me if I’m wrong here, but those are both really identical professions. Especially where Disney is concerned, apparently. The lyrics of a classic song “when you wish upon a star” has verses that say the following: “A Dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep”. The only difference is that while Moon Dreamers work in the world of slumber to grant kids their wishes/ dreams, Star Darlings work in the waking world to do the same. And Hasbro is no stranger to collaborating with Disney.
