Understanding Low Porosity Hair: Moisture Management and Best Oils Section 1: What is Low Porosity Hair? Hair porosity, a measure of how effectively hair absorbs and retains moisture, is a crucial factor in maintaining healthy locks. Specifically, low porosity hair refers to hair with tightly closed cuticles that impede moisture from penetrating the hair shaft. This characteristic can lead to dryness, brittleness, and susceptibility to breakage. What is Porosity? Porosity, in the context of hair, refers to the hair's ability to absorb and hold moisture. This is determined by the condition of the hair's cuticle layer, which is the outermost protective layer of each hair strand. When the cuticles are tightly closed, as is the case with low porosity hair, moisture has difficulty entering the hair shaft. Signs of Low Porosity Hair Identifying low porosity hair involves recognizing certain indicators: Dry, brittle texture Proneness to breakage Prolonged drying time Resistance to moisture absorption from products Causes of Low Porosity Hair Several factors contribute to the development of low porosity hair: Genetics: Inherited traits can predispose individuals to low porosity hair. Just as a painter wields their brush with precision, you too can wield oils with finesse, ensuring your hair receives the nourishment it craves. Let's dive into the finer details of using oils for low porosity hair, exploring techniques that will leave your locks looking and feeling their best. Applying Oil to Low Porosity Hair: A Step-by-Step Guide Applying oil to your hair might seem straightforward, but to optimize its effects on low porosity strands, precision is key. Follow these steps for an effective oil application ritual: Damp or Dry Hair: Start by determining whether to apply oil to damp or dry hair. Both methods work, so choose the one that suits your routine best. Scalp and Hair Shaft: Dispense a small amount of oil onto your palms and distribute it evenly across your hands. Gently massage the oil into your scalp using your fingertips, stimulating blood circulation and promoting hair growth. Gradually work the oil down to the hair shaft, ensuring even coverage. Massage and Penetrate: With a delicate touch, massage the oil into your hair and scalp. This motion not only ensures the oil is evenly distributed but also aids in its penetration. The massage promotes relaxation while allowing the oil to seep into the hair cuticles. Time is of the Essence: Allow the oil to work its magic by leaving it in your hair for a minimum of 30 minutes. For enhanced benefits, you can even choose to leave it overnight. This extra time allows the oil to deeply penetrate the hair shaft, nourishing it from within. Frequency of Oil Usage for Low Porosity Hair How often you use oil on your low porosity hair largely depends on your hair's unique needs and your personal preferences. Unlike other hair types, low porosity hair can benefit from frequent oil treatments without feeling overly greasy. Start with a small amount of oil and gradually increase the quantity as needed, finding the balance that yields the best results for your locks. Exploring Alternative Oil Applications Beyond the traditional application method, there are several alternative ways to incorporate oils into your low porosity hair care routine: Conditioner Boost: Elevate your regular conditioner or leave-in conditioner by adding a few drops of oil. This enriches your hair care products with an extra dose of moisture and nourishment. Pre-Poo Power: Prior to shampooing, apply oil to your hair as a pre-poo treatment. This creates a protective barrier against the drying effects of shampoo while ensuring your hair retains its natural oils. Heat Protection Partner: When using heat styling tools, consider using oil as a heat protectant. Apply a small amount of oil to your hair before styling to shield it from potential damage. With these advanced techniques, you're poised to become a low porosity hair care connoisseur. In the next section, we'll unveil a set of insider tips for optimizing your oil routine and achieving hair perfection. Elevating Your Low Porosity Hair Routine: Tips for Optimal Oil Usage Section 4: Tips for Using Oils for Low Porosity Hair As you embark on your journey of nurturing low porosity hair, mastering the intricacies of oil application is your golden ticket to unlocking your hair's full potential. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting, these insider tips will ensure your oil routine becomes a transformative ritual, enhancing both the health and beauty of your locks. Choose Wisely: Opt for Light-Weight Oils When selecting oils for low porosity hair, the choice between heavy and light-weight oils is pivotal.
Opt for light-weight oils that infuse your hair with moisture without burdening it. Heavy oils have the potential to weigh your hair down, leading to a greasy appearance and less volume. Light-weight oils strike the perfect balance between nourishment and vitality. Warmth for Penetration: Warming Your Oils Elevate your oil application by warming the oil before use. Warming the oil brings it closer to your body's natural temperature, enhancing its ability to penetrate the hair shaft. A quick and simple step that paves the way for deeper nourishment and moisture retention. Massage Magic: Stimulating the Scalp The act of massaging the oil into your scalp transcends mere application; it becomes a therapeutic experience. As your fingertips gently knead your scalp, blood circulation is stimulated. This increased circulation brings oxygen and nutrients to your hair follicles, fostering growth and overall hair health. Time for Transformation: Allotting 30 Minutes The saying "good things take time" holds true for oil application. Leaving the oil in your hair for at least 30 minutes allows it to work its way into the hair shaft, replenishing it with much-needed moisture. This interval transforms your hair care routine into a rejuvenating escape. Heat as an Ally: Using Heat to Penetrate Employing a heat cap or diffuser as an aid during oil application can amplify the benefits. Heat opens the hair cuticles, allowing the oil to penetrate more effectively. Think of it as a spa day for your hair, where every strand receives the royal treatment. With these carefully curated tips, your oil application technique is primed for excellence. Afterword.
I mean if he did it was easily done. She's definitely the most famous blogger to make it thru the carol's daughter/miss jessie's takeover era and the department store textured hair aisle renovations. She taught recipes before Deva cuts were a thing. Her hair was SHORT.
If I was popular in college it was cuz I went natural before it was cool and had 10 inches before the aka's and deltas transitioned. I used to get so many compliments and product questions and I'd tell them to go on Yahoo and YouTube. Shit was hard to figure out with no money. Fucking butters and bars was my life source. AND the site for BAQ mehindi henna. Whole foods aloe vera juice that had to be refrigerated and that I had to just drink when it was close to turning. The struggle was real but learning to care for my hair in the kitchen instead of bathroom is why it's still resilient. Some habits live hard. My fave was a woman with a thick Caribbean accent from somewhere other than Jamaica or Haiti. Maybe Dominican. She had OG 4A hair and the melanin and cheekbones off a woman descended from survivors. She wore the disaspora in her skin. Quantum coil pattern shone helixes through her halo.

 Moisturizes and nourishes
Argan Oil nourishes and moisturizes the skin. The high quantity of vitamin E present in it nourishes, strengthens, and provides a glow to the skin. Not only will your skin be able to retain hydration, but also repair itself. Vitamin E, Oleic acid, and Linoleic acid that are present in Oleo de Argan deeply moisturize and hydrate the skin. Those who are struggling with dry skin can use Argan Oil for a smooth texture and appearance.
 Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
The nourishing properties present in Oleo de Argan help reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the skin, making it appear healthy and youthful. Skin can lose collagen over time which is why it is important to nourish it to increase its elasticity. Moisturizing the skin with Argan oil can reduce visible wrinkles by tightening and firming the skin. It can also reduce any dark spots and pigmentation.
Brightens skin and fades dark spots
Argan oil can significantly rescue any dark spots and pigmentation on the skin. If you suffer from hyperpigmentation, aging, or too much sun exposure, including argan oil in your daily routine can brighten your skin tone evenly. Argan oil contains high quantities of vitamin E compounds that reduce the production of pigment from scars and spots.
 Conditions hair
The nourishing and moisturizing properties of oleo de argan make it a great conditioner for hair. Masking your hair in argan oil can make it amazingly smooth and silky. Argan oil has a light texture that easily penetrates through the hair cuticles and cuts out the dryness in it. Get soft, manageable, and nourished hair with argan oil. You can include this in your shampoo or conditioner to see substantial changes which include fewer tangles, less frizz, and more shine.
 Boosts shine
Unlike other hair oils such as coconut oil or olive oil, argan oil easily absorbs into hair cuticles because of its light texture and doesn't leave a heavy coat behind. Since it leaves no greasy residue, it can be used as a leave-in conditioner too. It is rich in omega fatty acids and vitamins which bring shine and luster to the hair without feeling heavy or leaving a dense coating behind.
 Promotes hair growth
Argan oil can be massaged gently into the hair and scalp to promote hair growth and ensure the health of the hair. The phenols, fast, and vitamins present in it strengthens the hair follicles and reduces hair damage. The antioxidants present in argan oil promote hair growth and reduce hair fall. You can also leave argan oil in eyebrows and eyelashes to promote hair growth.

This is because the dye penetrates the hair follicles and in between the hair strands. Compromising the hair cuticle with the dyes then the healthy hair pigments escape. Besides the dye, other factors that aggravate the weakness are regular washing, UV exposure and heat. You therefore need to come up with ingredients that will keep your hair fresh and the dye intact so you do not look dull. You also have to take care of the free radicals that attack the hair on a daily basis. The free radicals are things like small elements and molecules that find their way into your hair this compromising the cuticle. The above is the main reason why it is important to choose a color preserving shampoo that has quality products to protect your hair against the free radicals and other environmental elements. Besides using a quality color preserving shampoo, you can also try other methods to extend the colour on your hair and to strengthen the hair as well. the following tips, we hope will help you. Wash your hair less often Some people assume that washing the hair as many times as you possibly can is one of the best ways to keep it healthy and hydrated. On the contrary, frequent washing of the hair fades out the color. Sometimes washing the hair too much rids it of some nutrients too. Unless you sweat too much and you need to feel clean and fresh always. Then there is no reason to wash your hair so many times. Once or twice, a week is enough time to leave you feeling clean and fresh as well as avoid a color fade. Get a professional to dye your hair Dying your own hair may save you costs and time spent going to a professional. It is even easier because you can get many of the dyes at your nearest beauty shop or supermarket. However, you have to be an expert to dye your own hair otherwise you may spoil your hair. A professional colourist knows about the dyes and the colour treatments more than you do. Majority of the salon dyes are permanent and the professionals know the right balance. Supermarket dyes are semi-permanent and you may not know the correct balance to use on your hair. Before you start weighing the benefits of going to a salon or having DIY session, think of the harm, you may bring to your hair Protect your hair against UV rays and other climate changes Color treated hair fades faster when exposed to the UV rays of the sun. rains and wind could also change the hue. If you are going outside during extreme temperature changes, protect your hair by wearing something on the head, you could tie a scarf or put on a hat or a cap. If you feel that wearing a hat or a scarf may might spoil your overall look, then wear a live-in conditioner to protect the hair against UV. If you go swimming, do not let your hair come into contact with chlorinated water. Do not use shampoos with alcohol Alcohol based products dry up the hair fast, compromising the cuticle. This is so especially if you are an outdoors person that spends a lot of time in the sun. look out for shampoos and other products that are free from alcohol to protect both the hair and the dye. Wrapping it up You do not have to worry about your colour treated hair losing its beautiful hue if you use the above products. They not only maintain the colour but they also ensure that your hair stays strong, healthy and well nourished. Use the above shampoos with the right conditioners and treatments and your dyed hair will not thin out or look dull. They have specifically formulated formulas that will make you rock your hair with pride. All the products are available at amazon. When creating A vital oil Mix inside of a carrier, get Innovative. Make a choice from lots of butters and oils. I wish to melt it with other butters like shea butter and cocoa butter to get a loaded, aromatic, therapeutic body butter. Kombo butter is anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and antiseptic. It's employed with important oils for aching joints and muscles and for dry or irritated skin problems. Kombo butter is large in Myristoleic acid. Myristoleic acid is made use of to treat soreness inside the muscles and joints for arthritis and gout.
Kpangnan butter (Pentadesma butyracea) is pronounced "Panya." I have discovered this butter for being even more moisturizing than shea butter and has a slight warming effect on the skin when applied. Experiments have discovered that Kpangnan has a high volume of stigmasterol, an unsaturated plant sterol which contains anti-inflammatory and agony relieving brokers. For your stable butter the texture is softer than expected and it provides a luscious feel to entire body butters. The aroma is gentle and nutty.
Marula oil (Sclerocarya birrea) is an excellent golden carrier oil with a very light aroma Best Air purifier (wonderful for those who never want a solid aroma). Fluff piece: put the coconut down!
Tumblr media
Before you light the torches and grab your pitch forks let me tell you, I love coconut oil. I came full circle career wise from hairstylist and esthetician to coach and counselor and after 5 years I was back in a salon & spa. While on hiatus I spent a year of using beauty products that I made and bought ingredients strictly from a super market. Meaning only raw food grade quality on my skin, if I couldn’t ingest it then it wasn’t for me. I experimented with grape seed oil and olive oils, sesame oil among others, then I discovered coconut oil that year. However, coconut oil is too heavy for me, it clogged pores on my face and created texture on my skin where there was none. About these hair treatments, I would never put it in my hair. I use it as a moisturizer on my legs and elbows, cuticles and feet, often as a base in body scrub but with the intention of rinsing it off thoroughly after. Since then I feel like coconut oil has become the basic bitch of beauty and people I fear are missing out on the most amazing products known to wo/men. Unlike coconut oil, these oils I suggest will not clog pores and will never feel heavy on the skin; baobab, jojoba, rice bran oil and so many more. All boasting qualities that surpass the unrefined cold pressed organic staple that we have come to the peak of our fervid adoration for. So here are my top five oils you may want to introduce or reintroduce yourself to and some suggested uses...
Rice Bran Oil: This is my new favorite best anti aging friend, I recently found it as I was researching for anti aging miracle oils. The magic ingredient in this performing oil is Oleic acid, a highly used fatty-acid in mainstream anti aging creams. I just use the food grade raw oil. I have not been successful tracking down unrefined in the grocery store however I am just about to purchase it on line at bulkapothecary.com A good mid priced oil for anyone willing to spend a little more cash while exploring new base oils for their beauty routines. I use it in part with jojoba 80/20, which I will speak to next, as a beautiful facial oil base. It’s a light silky finish with a fast absorption rate. I love it, my skin loves it.
Jojoba oil: Now this is actually a liquid wax derived from a seed of a shrub. It is an indigenous plant to North america and is the most like our own natural skin secretions. This makes the oil perfect for any use of the body, split ends, scalp to toes. The texture is extremely silky and luxurious, if your budget is high I suggest this one for all your beauty needs hands down. Alternatively it is a great way to add quality to an oil you already use such as rice bran and mix 80/20 or 70/30 to your liking. It is moisturizing and loaded with fatty acid chains for your skins delight and is a natural preservative. I have a deep devotion to this one!
Baobab oil: For you high rollers out there, this oil comes from Africa and is more expensive than jojoba, if you can get over the nutty sent (just add some essential oil) it’s a winner. Similar to jojoba, a seed oil from what they call “the tree of life” this highly prized oil will deliver! It is beautifully light, silky and is ideal for treating the ends of hair and delicate skin like around the eyes. I love to use these types of light oils on the more delicate areas of my body, if you don’t forget your silky “pink” parts, neither will your beloved! Have fun!
Grape seed oil: On a budget? A really great suggestion for someone looking for a lasting bottle of base oil that is light and scentless, if this is you, then look no further! You can add any essential oils and make this the most hard working moisturizer that is good for sensitive and mature skin, will not clog pores, stain sheets or PJ’s. Because it has astringent qualities due to the lanoleic acid it is an essential ingredient for a facial cleanser (for those “oil removes oil” believers), in addition to leaving you clean it will also tighten pores and support collagen production on a cellular level. What a work horse! If you can, start a oil cleansing routine today, I do! Its an amazing habit to initiate and this is an indispensable oil for that cause. It’s like the old adage said, moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
P.S: if you use coconut oil as a lubricant and have found it to warm too much or that it might be starting to cause black heads/ingrown I say, switch to grape seed. You’re welcome.
Last but not least...
Rose hip oil: I found this little surprise at the local pharma-save of all places! It’s a conditioning and rejuvenating oil and is probably my favorite find this year. It has an active scent rather than a performing sent, think the stock of the rose rather than the flower essences (or rose hips, lol). Its so light and beautiful, the skin feels so smooth and remarkable after application, the oil is absorbed in seconds! For those that love a clean finish, its hard to not be devoted from the moment you use it. I will never be without this amazing oil in my beauty routine and if you haven’t had the pleasure, I think its time you get acquainted with this luxurious active oil for the sake of your skin and all that gaze upon it. Oh, and don’t forget to drink rose hip tea in the winter, its loaded with Vit C and anti-oxidants for the inside out believers, I will never stop being grateful for the rose!
Those are my top five beauty oils! Hope you learned a little or were inspired! Stay beautiful with wild holistic power and thrive!

Babassu Oil
Experience renewed, vibrant skin with this highly sought after exotic oil. Babassu oil deeply penetrates your skin, where it balances your natural oils, softens, and provides much-needed antioxidants. It is quickly absorbed, without leaving a greasy after feel that is common with other oils. It is extracted from the Babassu palm trees which are native to the tropical regions of Brazil.
One of the reasons this oil has become so in-demand is that it contains over 70% lauric acid and 20% myristic. It also is high in Vitamin E. These incredible components work to heal severe skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis and they also provide a cooling effect on contact with the skin which is very soothing. This oil is anti-inflammatory which will soothe any irritation and is wonderful for sensitive skin.
You can also use babassu oil for your hair. It is easily absorbed without leaving your hair greasy. It will make your hair soft, shiny and lustrous and will help hydrate your hair and repair damaged ends or dryness.
Babassu oil is traditionally used in South America for cooking, and is an excellent choice for health reasons. It is similar to coconut oil in its health benefits.
Kukui : Kukui nut Oil Aleurites moluccans tree: Kukui nut oil is beneficial to the skin, soothing and softening it without leaving a greasy film. It has been used to treat wounds and burns, and some people feel it is beneficial for the symptoms of eczema and psoriasis. The oil is an excellent choice for massage, and offers glide without excess slip. When added to soap formulations, kukui nut oil increases the creaminess of lather and enhances its conditioning abilities.
Other popular uses of kukui nut oil:
Hair and scalp conditioner; bath oil
Relief for sunburned skin; may have slight sunscreen capabilities
Some hospitals and cancer centers in Hawaii are using kukui nut oil to help relieve the pain of burns caused by radiation therapy
Beneficial for dry skin and skin affected by acne
Nut meat can be mixed with other ingredients and used as an exfoliant
Has been used for stretch marks and cellulite reduction, but with mixed results
Kukui nut oil contains essential fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic). In addition to being effective in its pure form, kukui nut oil is used in multi-ingredient skin products. Vitamins C, D and E are often added to the oil (vitamin E acts as a preservative). When compounding skin care products, kukui nut oil should not be added until all steps requiring heat are complete.

10 Best Products For Low Porosity Hair
New Post has been published on https://healingawerness.com/getting-healthy/getting-healthy-women/10-best-products-for-low-porosity-hair/
10 Best Products For Low Porosity Hair
Pooja Karkala February 18, 2019
‘I spend a bomb on shampoos and conditioners, and yet there’s no difference in my hair.’
Can you relate to the above situation? If yes, it’s time to start looking for the right kind of products. Not all products work the same on all hair types. If your products aren’t working for you, maybe you are knocking on the wrong door! If you have low porosity hair, you need to grab products that are meant for your hair type. Not sure about your hair type? Check out this article to find out!
Let’s first understand what low porosity hair is.
What Is Low Porosity Hair?
Understanding the porosity level of your hair can be quite challenging. Let me break it down for you.
If your hair has low porosity, it means your hair bonds are tightly packed and resistant to receiving moisture. If you take the strand test, your hair strand will float on the top due to its incapability to absorb water. This shows that low porosity hair cannot absorb products easily. To get the best of your hair products, you need to use shampoos and conditioners that are alkaline. This will help lift the cuticles.
Want to know the symptoms of low porosity hair? Check them out below!
Symptoms Of Low Porosity Hair
Shutterstock
Resistant to moisture and water.
Hair takes a long time to dry.
Products sit on your hair and tend to build up.
Takes time to absorb any chemical treatments and hair dyes.
Lacks elasticity.
You need steam to activate the effects of the products you use.
What Causes Low Hair Porosity?
1. Blame It On Your Genes!
If low hair porosity runs in your family, there’s a high chance that you inherited the same. But, don’t worry. Take good care of your tresses at the earliest to prevent any hair issues.
2. Not Cleansing Your Hair Properly
Make you sure you cleanse your hair thoroughly because that can be another major reason for low porosity. If you notice a lot of residue built up on your scalp, use a clarifying shampoo once a month to deep clean your hair and scalp.
Take a look at the list below of the 10 best low porosity hair products available on the market right now!

Organic Argan Oil Extracted from the crushed Argan fruit kernels, Moroccan Argan Oil is a natural remedy for restoring hair and keeping cuticles moisturised. It is rich in Vitamin E and fatty acid and is easily absorbed, leaving hair protected from further damages.
Organic Baobab Oil Baobab is well known for its amazing benefits on the skin and hair. Various parts of the Baobab tree have been consumed since ancient times for its extremely high concentration of calcium and VitaminC. Baobab Oil also contains high levels of proteins and Vitamin A.
The enriching Baobab Oil nourishes, improves hair elasticity and encourages cell regeneration. Baobab is rich in antioxidants which will help protect the hair from environmental damage.
Tahitian MonoiConsidered the “sacred oil of the Polynesians”, Monoi is made by maceration of thousands of Tahitian Gardenia blossoms into Coconut Oil. It has been a Polynesian beauty secret for centuries. Delicately fragranced, Monoi will help stop protein loss from the hair and therefore help to slow or stop damages. It reduces frizz whilst adding brilliance and shine for healthier hair.
