Akroydon 2 (Akroyd Mill and Burial Ground)
Keen to complete our investigations of Akroydon, we took the bus to Halifax mid-May. We alighted on Crown Street where Phil indicated books piled in a window behind us. Previously unnoticed, it solved the mystery of Old Bank Shops, which I’d fruitlessly sought last year. A subsequent foray found nothing but fusty old books and postcards. From North Parade, signs led to Akroyd Mill. It was, of…

Really had a great day yesterday on my late birthday treat from my Mum. Bankfield Museum is absolutely lovely, the scenery is gorgeous, the exhibits are amazing I loved wondering round the place. They had so much military uniform history, fashion history which included huge flowing dress from France which reminded me of Madame du Pompadour’s dress on Doctor Who. But the main reason we went literally made my day which was the Gentleman Jack exhibit, I have to say I genuinely didn’t anticipate half the sizes, I felt so small standing by some of the costumes and I’m 5’6 🙈. What stunned me most I knew Suranne was slim but the waist on the dress she wears for the birthday party scene was tiny. All the costumes were absolutely amazing though, it’s kicked off my urge to act again.....

(I have to say though I haven’t slept so well in ages, the journey to get to Halifax and back was exhausting.)

Omg what a day. I'm so tired and happy and so so hot. We've started our journey back to London after a long and hot day. We don't even know if we'll get back to London but hopefully we do.
I need to process what I've seen and go through the pics but I will post everything I have. I am so so happy that I did this and I'm very thankful to the people at both Shibden Hall and Bankfield museum for being such lovely and helpful humans.
And I found the book that I couldn't find earlier and the series on dvd. Very happy about that.

Bankfield and Akroydon (Halifax)
Recently discovering Halifax had two model villages – Copley and Akroydon, we agreed to explore the latter combined with a visit to nearby Bankfield Museum. Riding up front on the top deck of the bus, Phil pretended to be driving and I contemplated starting points for future days out. Disgorged at Crown Street, we walked alongside Broad Street shopping centre to Northgate. Noting a sign for…

the costumes from the gentleman jack exhibition!! seriously walking into that room and seeing these all right in front of me was so. magical. omg. my Facourite favourites (because they are all my favourites) are Anne’s wedding hat because it’s ridiculous and i love it and also the wedding rings omg <3
peep the gondola pin on Ann’s wedding outfit ahh my poor gay HEART
every costume does have a lil description but i didn’t take pics of all them because i know someone’s gonna make a much better post than this one which will probably include those
anyway, i’m so grateful that i got to be the first member of the public to see these, seriously, how wild is that???? omg thank you bankfield museum i had the best time and the costumes are truly magnificent, the detail is on another level!! the buttons on Thomas’ costume are encrusted with the Lister crest even though they knew no one would be able to see it on screen anyway! that’s amazing and just shows how much thought and care went into this show that we all love so much <3<3<3
