Kantha (Bengali: কাঁথা) is a form of embroidery originating in Bengal region, i.e. Bangladesh and the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and parts of Assam. It has its roots in nakshi kantha, an ancient practice among bengali women of making quilts from old saris and rags by sewing them together. In modern usage, kantha generally refers to the specific type of stitch used. The kantha needlework is distinct and recognised for its delicacy. The stitching on the cloth gives it a slightly wrinkled, wavy effect. Today, kantha embroidery can be found on all types of garments as well as household items like pillowcases, bags and cushions.
While it is an increasingly diversifying art form, traditional kantha embroidery motifs are still sought after. Traditional kantha embroidery is two-dimensional and are usually of two distinct types: geometric forms with a central focal point, carried over from the nakshi kantha tradition and influenced by islamic art forms; and more fluid plant, floral, animal and rural motifs with stick-figure humans depicting folklores and rural life in Bengal.

THE STUDENTS OF BANGLADESH ARE DYING.
The so called students league called BCL or Bangladesh Chatro league, who are basically the rabid dogs of the rolling government of Bangladesh are attacking, assaulting and killing the students protesting against the Quota system that gives off government jobs for the children and grandchildren of freedom fighters of the liberation war. Our own prime minister called us rajakar (traitor who betrayed Bangladesh to Pakistan in 1971) and said anyone who isn't the child of declared freedom fighter is a child of a rajakar. So the students created a slogan "who am I? Who are you? Rajakar, rajakar!" Ignoring the irony of the slogan, the pm set her rabid dogs on the students, my people are dying because she (pm) refuses to let go of nepotism. We can't use our freedom of speech. Please help us.
Our Internet is being cut off, our accounts are being hacked, our electricity is said to be gone soon. SPREAD THE WORD.

The number of children dying under five years of age declined by two thirds over the past two decades in Southern Asia, according to new mortality estimates released by UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Population Division and the World Bank Group. Southern Asia includes nine countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
The report reveals that the number of child deaths under 5 years of age decreased from 5 million in 1990 to 1.3 million in 2022. The report also shows that Southern Asia’s under five mortality rate, or the probability that a child would die before five years of age, reduced by 72 per cent since 1990, and 62 per cent since 2000.
“We have made heartening progress to save millions of children’s lives since 1990. These aren’t just numbers on a page – these are children’s lives saved, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters. This success is largely due to investments in trained health workers, improvements in newborn care, treatment of childhood illnesses and vaccinations for children against deadly diseases,” said Sanjay Wijesekera, UNICEF Regional Director for Southern Asia. “This progress shows us that change is possible. These lives saved are testament to the engagement and will of governments, local organizations, health care professionals such as skilled birth attendants, parents, and families to save the most vulnerable children.” ...
Despite this progress, however, much more needs to be done...
The report also reveals that progress among countries is uneven. Three countries (Iran, Sri Lanka and Maldives) have achieved the SDG 2030 target for under five child mortality reduction and four are on track to meet the target (India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal). For example, Bangladesh’s neonatal mortality rate decreased from 66 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1990, to 17 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2022.
However, in Pakistan and Afghanistan, urgent action is required to accelerate their annual rates of reduction substantially to meet 2030 targets...
“We call on governments across the region to invest in simple solutions such as having trained birth attendants at every birth, ensuring that all newborns have essential care, better care of small and sick newborn babies, medicines, clean water, electricity, and vaccines to save lives. Every child has the right to healthcare.”

Hindus are being gangraped, lynched, and having their property destroyed in Bangladesh rn. Amidst all the news coming out of there don't forget about the minority that always ends up dealing with the brunt of chaos. in 1971 most of the victims of the genocide were Bangladeshi Hindus and everyone conveniently leaves this detail out.
(And i know some mf will either no true scotsman this or say that it's all lies and that all the videos coming out are fake or propaganda from the BJP or something instead of another event in a long chain of violence. The Hindu population has crashed from 30% at independence to 9% today. Estimates say that in the next 30 years, Hindus will be extinct in Bangladesh)
#everyone loves supporting minorities and non-abrahamic belief systems until its hindus#then its silence from fucking everyone#bangladesh hating on india is lowk so funny like babe if it wasnt for their involvement in 1971 you people wouldn't even have your country#india#bangladesh#world news#hindu#indian tumblr#hinduism#hindublr#i want sheikh hasina back and not this fucking western puppet headass. fucking cold war shit

Just saw a tweet about ISKCON excommunicating their own kith and kin, Chinmoy Das. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but the low-key disgust I had for ISKCON is rapidly turning into high-key contempt. First of all, you are a cult that propagates an Abrahamised version of Sanatan Dharma, referring to all other deities as demi-gods, and on top of that, you don’t even adhere to the cult aspect properly—abandoning your own monk in the face of state persecution. I don’t know much about Gaudiya Vaishnavism, but the general pacifism that characterises the Vaishnav sampradaya has become both archaic and orthodox. Coming back to ISKCON—the delusion these people live in is baffling. I had a friend in college who was deep down the ISKCON rabbit hole. She once said that Shiv Bhakts are materialistic and worship Shiva to fulfil their own desires, whereas Krishna Bhakts suffer in this world and reap the rewards of their suffering in Vaikuntha. Like, really? ISKCON receives donations amounting to millions of dollars every year, and their so-called sales executives—or whatever pious marketing gimmick name they use—pressure or pester people into handing over their money. It’s better to donate to the daan peti of your local neighbourhood temple or start Hindu charitable trusts to enable wealthy Hindus to support poor Hindus economically.Let’s be honest—most ISKCON attendees, at least in major metropolitan cities, are middle- to upper-middle-class Hindus. These people are not suffering; they’re just living comfortably. And the actions of ISKCON in Bangladesh only reinforce the idea that they’re not pacifists but cowards—much like Gandhi. Do they really believe that abandoning Chinmoy Das will protect them from radicals?

y'all might find it controversial but let's face it, Bangladesh's political turmoil is one thing; vandalizing and posing threats to people is another. from what I've been hearing through the internet (which continues to show the rare ground footages), Hindus are in fear. Bangladeshi Hindus.
1971. 3 million Hindus were KILLED. 200,000 hindu women were R@PED.
i am aware that making this religion specific is what makes this controversial, but it is necessary. when harm is caused on the basis of religious identity, there's no other way around to mention it!
if the world could step forward to speak up on Palestine, it could also step up to speak on the atrocities in Bangladesh.
international authorities continue to issue releases concerning the protection of Bangladeshi Hindus, but serious delay in such action has been noted.
we don't want 1971 to repeat. I hope we start to speak up before it's too late.

Khona was a poet and astronomer from Deulia village in Bengal, best known for Khonar Bochon, a series of couplets and short rhymes which imparts advice regarding agricultural and rural life. Born somewhere between 800-1200 A.D., Khona defied social and cultural norms of her time when women were rarely taught to read. Her husband Mihir was the son of the philosopher and astronomer Barahmihir, who was one of the navaratnas (nine gems) at the court of Chandragupta II. Khona lived in Chandragupta's court in Pataliputra for a time with her husband and father-in-law. According to legend, Chandragupta was so impressed with Khonar Bochon which benefited the farmers of his state that he named Khona the tenth gem of his court. Khonar Bochon remains relevant to the agricultural life of rural Bengal to the present day.

Yusuf Darwish is a devoted husband and father living in Gaza. Like many families in the region, he has faced unimaginable challenges, especially in the wake of ongoing conflicts. Yusuf's life took a tragic turn when his young son was injured during a recent war. The boy suffered severe injuries to his face and hand, a painful reminder of the violence that surrounds them.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bbf57f55e4e849c32b7cebfb393f795a/8b34207c37c3f274-af/s540x810/d7d3540ea657bfdadd22bcd244250d03e713d0aa.jpg)
Despite the limited resources and medical facilities available in Gaza, Yusuf has remained hopeful. He has sought treatment locally, but the medical care his son requires exceeds what is available in the region. The injuries have not only affected his son physically but have also taken an emotional toll on the entire family.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/62b4212357532ebafe2e665606ee0f50/8b34207c37c3f274-d9/s1280x1920/ad64003a3f95820f247b1d7192b8888323e9c20f.jpg)
Yusuf is determined to find a way to get his son the help he desperately needs. He believes that specialized medical treatment outside of Gaza could provide his child with a chance for recovery and a better quality of life.
