Recently gained the courage to start rerooting all of the Sailor Moon dolls in my 'to be rerooted' queue myself instead of letting them rot in boxes until I felt like shelling out the money to get them rerooted lol First up were two of my 1995 Super S Henshin Chibiusa dolls who first inspired me to start this project (and learn how to root thatched partings which I have avoided for years out of fear lol) by virtue of having old yellowed saran that desperately needed to be replaced lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Chibimoon in the sailor fuku has also gotten new gold accessories since this release is prone to having darkened, tarnished accessories by now- brooch still wip) No I am not cutting her hair shorter, this is the length she was made with and the dolls were right to have longer hair than the anime!!! Not bad for only my second thatched parting! Not flawless but it looks factory made which is what I wanted lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've also recently done my extra Sailor Moon from the same line but she's not done yet lol

CHOGOKIN Tamagotchi Robot
Tumblr media
Now this is a collaboration! Bandai has partnered up with CHOGOKIN, a Bandai brand that makes legendary series of die cast metal robot toys which debuted way back in 1974.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This collaboration celebrates CHOGOKIN’s 50th anniversary, and delivers a Tamagotchi Robot, reminiscent of Mametchi that holds the Tamagotchi in the center of it’s chest, and actually transforms into the Tamagotchi UFO!
Tumblr media
The robot is approximately 100 millimeters tall, and made of metals so you know it’ll be durable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Tamagotchi itself is a Tamagotchi with P1 programming, a shinny reflective golden Tamagotchi with pink accents and buttons. There’s even a custom background behind the screen commemorating the 50th anniversary of CHOGOKIN.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re attending the Tamagotchi 28th birthday celebration at OSHI Base starting on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, you’ll see a CHOGOKIN Tamagotchi Robot exhibit there!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Preorders will be available on Friday, November 1st, 2024 for ¥9,900 including tax at toy stores, consumer electronics stores, and mail order sites nationwide! With an official release date of May, 2025.
youtube
In additional, you’ll also see CHOGOKIN Tamagotchi Robot at featured at TAMASHII Nation 2024 on November 15th, 2024. TAMASHII Nation is an annual figure festival that is held in Akihabara, Tokyo from Friday, November 15th, 2024 through Sunday, November 17th, 2024.

Duel! Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1994)
Tumblr media
Sales sheet for Duel! Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, a 1994 gacha arcade game by Namco. You hit a button that makes Godzilla swing his tail, and the goal is to wack King Ghidorah in the head. This was part of the Godzilla Wars Jr. game series

International standards being what they are, the majority of consoles created in or imported to Japan, including those targeting uniquely domestic audiences, employ names or acronyms based on the English language. For the sixty odd years that Japan has been producing electromechanic and electronic game systems there is but a literal handful of systems named in the Japanese language that, I'd wager, even the most seasoned players know little or nothing about. Your curiosity may be rewarded if you continue reading.
Tumblr media
1982 - Contrary to what you may have heard or read, Tomy was the first Japanese toy company to develop a computer. Styled after the Texas Instruments TI-99/4 and manufactured by Matsushita, the Pyūta was purposely designed to sit on toy store shelf space as hinted at by its name, a childish diminutive of the word Konpyūtā.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1983 - John Ross's Mini-Arcade project was sold world over under the sweet-sounding name Vectrex. The Japanese distributor, Bandai, was not so enamoured with it. Believing that a Japanese name would do better at retail, it was commercialized as Kōsoku-Sen - The Lightspeed Ship!
Tumblr media
1988 - Bandai's history as a console maker is quite unlike any other. Terebikko is a VHS-based gaming system that uses the TV audio output to play sound via its phone receiver and quiz players with multiple response questions. The console produces a sound output that informs the player if the answer was correct or not. Tapes include animated films starring Mario, Anpanman and the characters from Dragon Ball, some even fetching quite the high price at auctions these days.
Tumblr media
1990 - Sharp is seldom given due recognition for creating some of Nintendo's finest and durable consoles. The Sūpā Famikon Naizou Terebi SF1 TV perfectly mirrors the concept of their 1983 C1 NES TV, in spite of the technological leap. Its Japanese name describes its built-in console function. Nintendo fanboys would pounce on me were I to snub it.
Tumblr media
1995 - Further proof of Bandai's unorthodox approach to console design is found in their unsuccessful Denshi Manga Juku - lit. Electronic Manga Tutor. The first ever stylus-based console - once again, contrary to what many may yet hold to be true - some of the games in its miniscule library allowed the player to design and animate characters or scenes; while others presented a blank canvas for the user to draw the game's protagonist.
Tumblr media
1996 - A retail development kit, but a console all the same, Sony's Netto Yarōze was an ambitious project resulting in dozens of homebrewed independent titles. The name matches its vision: a network of creators coming together to realize their individual game design aspirations. Of all the systems in its restricted category, it was by far the most successful.
Unreleased - It's a beautiful fact that the first arcade game and globally successful console had a Japanese word stamped on them - Atari. Mirai, meaning Future, is a prototype found in the mid-1990s, about which nothing can be said authoritatively apart it from being a cartridge-based system. Given the more or less overt resemblances to the Atari XEGS, it is possible that it was designed by Ira Velinsky, in which case it could date from the late 1980s. Though not a made-in-Japan product, its borrowing of a Japanese word makes its presence in this list mandatory.

Sometimes ADHD likes to throw you a curveball, and in my latest "I do not control the hyperfixation" development: I was suddenly possessed, at FOUR IN THE MORNING, to buy myself a tamagotchi out of literally nowhere, and now all I want to do is play with it and look at tamagotchi content.
...I also bought a second tamagotchi. Oops.

in October 1996, Bandai released the first set of Pokemon Kids, a series of soft vinyl finger puppet figures that were mostly released in Japan [although there were some special releases in Europe and Australia]. each toy comes packaged in a box with a collectible card as well as a piece of candy. there were special clear figures that could be found as secret variants up until the release of the B/W figures.
depicted above are the 8 figures that were in the first set, which, unlike the Pokemon Kids figures manufactured today, were released in a blind box.

Usagi Reroots
Finished up my Henshin Super Sailor Moon (1995) reroot and dressed her in a SuperS fashion pack (Sailor Coordinate No.11)!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Extremely in love with her! This release is notorious for having awful bangs that are nearly impossible to tame so it's great to see her with nice hair after all these years.
Tumblr media
So great that I'm likely going to reroot my second one (in the back) lol Immediately after her I began working on my Sailor Moon World DX set Eternal Sailor Moon (1999) , who was made with poly and has been bald in a box for years
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She also got a SuperS fashion pack (Sailor Coordinate No. 3) once finished!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very happy with her as well, it's pretty surreal to see her with good hair after 25 years of being either frizzy or bald.
She also has a much harder head than my previous three SM doll reroots, so I figured she would be a good challenge!
At this rate I won't be surprised if my SM reroot queue is done by my birthday in a little over a week, I started working on my 13" Sonokong Korea doll as soon as I finished these two lol (also the odango beads are from Amazon lol. Bandai never made any in different colors other than red, even for non-transformed dolls )
