There she was, the nice lady! Auntie J coos up at him with sweet words and even sweeter treats, carrying a basket of bananas in her arms. Man-Bat doesn't waste any time, fluttering down to the ground before hopping over to the clown expectantly, pointed ears pricked all the while as she says how nice she is, that she just needs some help to work in peace because everybody is being so mean to her. Of course she was nice. Nobody had offered to give Man-Bat bananas before, least of all a great big basket of them! The chiropteran is half-listening, even nodding in agreement as his eyes remain fixated on the colourful fruits but then Auntie J puts them out, each one scooped up by a brutal thumbclaw before disappearing down his gullet. Even more bananas? Just for helping Auntie J out? Man-Bat's jaws smack and chomp, tongue licking his lips clean before he chirrups in agreement, taking wing to the skies and heading straight to the city center where plenty of people are still active and awake. Auntie J needed help, and Man-Bat was going to do what she asked. She had bananas and plenty more where those came from!

I love Palawan the most. It’s that long island to the west. And it’s paradise. White sand beaches. Jade lakes. Large limestone mountains covered in luscious tropical greens.  And the water is so pure that you can see the most diverse and coloful corals just a few F E E T from the shore. I once saw an octopus hiding in some coral and I was close enough to the shore to stand up. And we were once eating beside the shore and a wild monkey. A wild monkey suddenly grabbed our bananans no kidding. 

I’m not even kidding the water literally looks like that. It’s paradise I tell you. That’s Lake Kayangan and the water is so clear you can see all the way to the bottom and it’s a pretty deep lake man. When you snorkel you feel like you’re flying on top of mountains from the rock formations in the bottom. 

This is me eating some damn fresh ass crabs with my hands in a hut by the shore after snorkelling in that pure ass sea in the background. It’s paradise I tell ya. Paradise. 5. favourite song in your native language?My favorite song in my native language is a little private for me. It’s something I hold deep deep in my heart. But one of my contemporary favorite songs are by a band called MuniMuni and the song Marilag. Marilag means majestic in english! The melody and the lyrics are absolutely breathtaking. 

6. most hated song in your native language?I have a lot. I really hate the songs that are forced out of artists that can’t sing. See the music industry in the Philippines is odd. It takes movie/tv stars and force them to sing. I don’t like those. 

7. three words from your native language that you like the most?I’m in love with my native language. And here are some of my favorite words. Most of these can’t be translated directly into English (because words are innately and intricately entangled from the culture from which it emerged from). There are actually a lot of languages in the Philippines since we’re an archipelago and these are just in Tagalog. I’m sure there are thousands more in other languages that are equally as beautiful Silakbo - or that sudden burst of strong emotions you feel deep in your heart. It’s like that lurch in your heart when you’re overwhelmed with so much feeling.Hiraya - an old Filipino word that means a vision. 

Kundiman - It’s an old love song. It’s actually a contraction for “Kung Hindi Man” or roughly transliterated to “If not” or “If we’re not meant to be”

ok ill elaborate but i was extremely high during most of it

so for the first 5 minutes i was like "ok i literally know beat for beat how this movie is going to go" but i didnt . like i really diddnt. bc it starts really heavy handed "cave dad doesnt like that cave girl might elope with boyfriend" so i was thinking this was gonna be one of those sequels where the main characters have to learn the same lessons again, except this time instead of "change is okay" its "let your kid grow up".

but its NOT because they encounter the "bettermans"

and its funny because its like "better mans" aka "better humans" vs the "croods" aka "crudes". its so witty . its funny because the bettermans are considered 'better' by the movie, and the movie does not actually really subvert this expectation even tho it thinks it does. its a pun its funny

and their daughter looks like elsa from tangled or whastevr

and this is a family of 3 who have singlehandedly created this massive farm thing and basically live talk and act like upper class white suburbanites. and this was like, really fucking weird and i would assume racist bc i think what they were trying to do MAYBE was like "lol what if Cave Man encountered Early Modern Human Settlement and its fantasy" but they depicted the 'bettermans' as paleofantasy waspy suburbanites so therefore the dynamic is more just modern racism

but yeah they meet them, and the anatomically modern human dude the Crodes have with them apparently knew the Bettermans as a child, and the bettermans want to set him up with their daughter. and the guy has a sloth that he wears as a belt and the girl has an identical sloth except its pink . and the boy sloth and the girl sloth are in love. the revelation of the pink sloth was the point where i wrote the original post

the one thing to their slight credit is they set up a scene where you think Cave Girl and Betterman Girl are going to be hateful loverivals, but then Cave Girl is like "you are my best friend" and they have a friendship and ride a giant tiger and i THINK it makes motorcycle noises but this is where the edible was starting to really hit.

and like theres this weird shit set up where they arent allowed to eat the bananas at the bettermans farm, but cave dad does anyway and thats a Probklem bc the main villain was a giant monkey. and i think the issue was that the bettermens like, resort home thing destroyed a water source and thus giant monkey and his smaller monkeys not get enough bananba in their home territory, and have to get bananna sacrificed to them by the Bettermans. but now theres no bananan because Dad cave ate them.

and at this point they have to like fight the giant monkey and they do. theres this really stale girlpower subplot i barely remember where the grandma used to be in this like, gang of valkyries or smth idk. i dont remember it was just really tryhard girlboss stuff. at one point the grandma's hair flies off and its revealed that its some manner of creature and i swear to god it shifted from cgi to this freakish irl muppet but again i was high. and the betterman applebees mom's haircut explodes and becomes a wild mane to prove that shes changed or something.

and then it ends with them learning to get along, but not in a "maybe the Croods lifestyle deserves respect and the giant paleo mcmansion isnt the way" but instead the crodes move onto the bettermans farm permanently and cavegirl and anatomically modern humanboy get cave married and betterman elsa is there.. i thinkthe sloths fuck too or something idr. i dont think the natural resource exploitation problems are ever resolved either and it just ends

Magenprobleme und die Grossstadt in den Bergen

Aus Uyuni gibt es eigentlich nur noch ein relevantes Foto das mich kurz vor meiner Lebensmittelvergiftung zeigt:

Danach pendelte ich zwischen meinem Einzelzimmer und der Toilette und war froh als ich am zweiten Tag endlich wieder trinken konnte. Die Busfahrt nach La Paz verschob ich um einen Tag, was sie leider nicht angenehmer machte. Mir war immer noch übel und ich konnte einfach nicht schlafen. Die Strasse und der Bus waren für bolivianische Verhältnisse zwar sehr gut, aber trotzdem reichte unser Licht nur ca. 25 Meter vor das Fahrzeug und der Busfahrer fuhr gerne schnell. Irgendwann kam ich aber an und bezog mein Zimmer, es hatte einen Kronleuchter und einen riesigen topmodernen Fernseher - alles mit Frühstück für 14 Franken - ich lebe also fast wie ein König hier.

Nun aber zu La Paz. In Südamerika gibt es keine Städte à la Lissabon, Paris, Rom oder Bern und La Paz war denn auch wie erwartet arm, dreckig, laut, verpestet und anstrengend.

Trotz all dem aber doch irgendwie faszinierend. Die Lage der Stadt ist einmalig und die Häuser ziehen sich auf allen Seiten den Berghang hinauf.

Ich erkundete die Stadt sowohl zu Fuss und als auch mit den sogenannten Telefericos - topmoderne Seilbahnen - die in verschiedenen Linien über die Dächern der Stadt führen. Es ist spannend eine Stadt aus dieser Perspektive zu erleben, man fährt über einen alten Friedhof, kann von oben Kindern beim Fussballspielen zuschauen und erlebt die Differenz zwischen arm und reich live mit.

In La Paz wohnen die armen Leute ganz oben am Hang, dort ist es kälter und es regnet öfters, während die besser situierten unten im klimatisch vorteilhafteren Talboden wohnen. Fährt man mit dem Teleferico aus dem Talboden auf die Bergkuppe, wechseln die Häuser und Dächer von zuerst noch Ziegel und Beton zu Wellblech und/oder Plastik. Oben angekommen sieht man auch bewohnte Häuser die bspw. gar keine Aussenwand haben, die Möbel werden dann einfach ca. 1.5 Meter von der offenen Front weggeschoben, damit sie bei Regen nicht nass werden.

Am meisten Spass hatte ich, wenn ich einfach aufs Geratewohl durch die Strassen schlenderte. Ich fühlte mich dabei tagsüber stets sicher und hatte sowohl Kamera als auch Handy immer griffbereit. So erlebt man den Alltag der Leute live mit, denn das Leben spielt sich auf der Strasse ab. Hier kauft man ein, lässt sich die Schuhe putzen, unterhält sich mit Nachbarn und Freunden und lässt sich trotz schwierigen Umständen nicht unterkriegen. Man findet hier für alles einen spezialisierten Strassenstand, sei es für Bananan, Eier, WC-Papier oder Fernbedienungen.  

Lustig fand ich wie so oft, dass hier Geschäfte gleicher Art jeweils an der gleichen Strasse angesiedelt sind. So findet man eine Strasse voll mit Coiffeuren, eine voll mit Feuerwehrlöschern(!), eine voll mit Werkzeugen und so weiter und so fort. Die Konkurrenz scheint das Geschäft hier wirklich zu beleben. Am Hexenmarkt kann man von Lamaföten über potenzsteigernde und krankheitsverhindernde Mittel auch die bekannten farbigen Textilien kaufen. Alles wird in diesen Farben verkauft, selbst Krawatten.

Beim durch die Stadt schlendern stiess ich auch immer wieder auf interessante Strassenkunst. Wie bereits in Chile versuchen die Personen so ihrem eher kümmerlichen Quartierleben etwas Farbe zu verleihen.  

Kurz und bündig, La Paz lässt einem sicherlich nicht kalt und so gefährlich ist es nicht. Abschliessend noch einige weitere Impressionen.
