Astraea's Atelier: Epilogue 1
Epilogue 1
Summer
(Early morning the next day)
Kurou: –-Morisawa, I’m so sad. I’m just being frank, but to catch the culprit while on a stakeout or something, isn’t that more suited to the role of a hooligan like me?
Chiaki: Owowowow!? I’m against violence! Stop it, Kiryu, the mackerel fold is such a rough technique that it’s sometimes banned in amateur sumo because it’s so dangerous!
Kurou: I’m not a sumo wrestler so it's fine.
Shu: Hmph. Take the punishment nicely, Morisawa. I’m almost jealous, Ryu-k… Kiryu will never use violence against me.
Kurou: I promised my mom not to bully you.
Shu: And you’re disciplined.
In any case, I think this is a good ending, Morisawa.
If the culprit was a dangerous criminal, you could have been seriously injured.
If you were to be exposed to danger I would feel sorry for you parents as someone who took care of you.
Chiaki: T-Thats true but! I thought I had no choice but to catch the culprit myself, since the local police were useless…!
Shu: But you aren’t a police officer, rather you’re an idol who should be protected by such.
Perhaps it’s because you admire SFX programmes, but it’s conceited to think of yourself as an ‘ally of justice’.
It’s unsightly to confuse fiction and reality.
Kurou: Haha. You don’t want Itsuki to tell you something like that.
Shu: What do you mean?
Kurou: Anyway, where’d Tsukinaga get off to? Doesn’t he need to be punished too, is he the only one that gets to run away?
Shu: It's useless to think about his actions. Most of the time he goes wherever his mood takes him.
Chiaki: D-Don’t punish Tsukinaga! I think it’s a good thing that he was worried about Itsuki…!
Shu: What a huge help. Being pitied by a hated enemy is more humiliating and unpleasant than being harassed by a stranger.
Therefore… I also don’t have any pity for the culprit of this case.
Kurou: Well, what’s that supposed to mean? I was the only one who got to sleep last night, so I’m the only one that doesn’t know the resolution.
Shu: It’s not your fault that you slept so deeply, you were exhausted from being shaken endlessly by a vehicle you’re not good with.
Anyway, it hasn’t exactly been resolved. Morisaway just had a theory.
Whether it’s true or not is still a mystery.
Chiaki: I’m sorry but, in order for that to happen I’m gonna have to try my best!
In this situation, I’m powerless, so I need your help as artists!
Kurou: I’m sorry but I don’t really get it… We’re doing as you said and modifying the pervy things that showed up in the atelier.
Shu: Exactly. Covering the stone statues of naked men and women in beautiful clothes, and covering the genitals of similarly shameless people depicted in the paintings.
Chiaki: Yup. That's how you make pervy things un-pervy! That’s justice!
Kurou: I don’t get what you mean… I don’t really feel good about modifying someone else's work like this.
Chiaki: Despite saying that, you're dressing the stone statues at a tremendous speed, Kiryu.
Kurou: It’s actually really fun, this is my first time working like this in a professional atelier.
Recently, ES has been using specialised designers, so I haven’t had many opportunities to sew costumes.
I’m so happy about being able to sew for the first time in a while that the guilt of messing up someone else's work has disappeared.
Shu: That's good. I’m also happy to be able to collaborate with you for the first time in a while, Kiryu.
However, don’t cut corners. If you haven’t had the chance to sew for a while, your skills will have diminished, so if your sewing is poor I’ll throw it in the trash.
Kurou: I’m amazed, there’s gotta be meaning in creating works of art. I’m stupid so I don’t really get it.
Chiaki: Right. This is just my speculation, so it might not be true but–
The goal of the culprit in this case is to be recognised by Itsuki.
Shu: …
Chiaki: They want Itsuki, who harshly criticised their work at the exhibition, to say it’s good this time around.
No, they want to be recognized and praised by their favourite artist, Itsuki.
For that sake, whoever it was, obsessively created works every day.
It was that amount of determination and passion that allowed them to create so many works.
If the culprit’s motive was harassment, it wouldn't have lasted this long. Human malice doesn’t last this long, and it’s a destructive emotion that’s the exact opposite of creation.
If the culprit held a grudge against Itsuki after being rejected, they would have just directly destroyed Itsuki’s atelier and works.
Kurou: I guess that’s true. Malicious thugs don’t create anything, they just destroy what others have worked so hard to create.
Chiaki: But that’s not what happened. Itsuki ended up disturbed and fell into a slump, which went against the culprit’s wishes.
Kurou: I guess so. And if the culprit is a fan of Itsuki, then they know his driving force to create is anger, rivalry, and a sense of inferiority.
Shu: Well, I’ve said such things in interviews and the like.
It’s not surprising if a fan of mine were to read these interviews and feel like they’ve gotten to know me.
Or even understand and sympathise as a fellow artist.
Chiaki: Exactly. The culprit could sympathise, so they created more and more works and sent them to the atelier.
It would be easy to break into the atelier illegally, considering Tsukinaga has a bad habit of not locking the door when he sneaks in.
So they snuck in and planted their work.
They wanted Itsuki to see it. They wanted you to compliment it this time round.
Shu: …

Ban Ryu 3.1
Ban Ryu’s eyes are fixed on you as you refill their cups. The other three have their ears glued to the wall. Ban Ryu is sitting regally at the table. You dare a glance at him. His eyes do not leave yours as you all hear through the thin walls the storyteller’s account.
“The nobleman breathes in the scent of the lady’s neck and she shudders…”
His eyes glance down to your neck and back to your face. Your eyes meet again. You lower yours and gather up your serving tray and retreat out of the room.
When the door closes, you let out a breath.

Timeless (A Korean FanFic)
Hello fellow readers I hope you all enjoy my first fanfic on Tumblr, I’m kind of nervous but feel free to message me of any thoughts about it I would love to hear from you=)
What if you fall in love with your first love’s murderer?
Characters: Seul (Fictional Character), Soo-hyuk, Taehyung
Genre: Love, Angst, Fantasy, Revenge, Historical, Violence, Modern Day
Inspired by : Scholar Who Walks The Night / Hwarang / Goblin
Chapter One : A Bittersweet Legend
I have nothing left to live for.
Seul opened her teary eyes to the dirt and rocks on the ground, beyond that her vision blurred to two male figures struggling against each other. All she can tell is that one of them was losing miserably.
Yeo-wool felt a hand clutch tightly against his neck forcing him to his knees. “Y-you…” He tried to breathe staring Gwi in his red irises, “You killed my best friend!” His voice spat out while tears filled his eyes.
The vampire could only stare back in amusement. “He should have never touched what belongs to me.” He chuckled coldly.
Seul struggled to her feet and held tight to the dagger hidden in her hanbok. I have to finish this. It is all my fault! Slowly her feet trembled to keep her lean figure from falling managing to reach her master and strike the dagger deep onto his back while her body fell to the floor out of exhaustion.
Gwi immediately released Yeo-wool from the sudden surprise. He gasped from the released grip on his neck stumbling onto the floor frantically looking for his missing sword.
Gwi managed to rip the dagger out of his back and threw it far from him and turned to the girl trembling on the floor with tears flowing down her cheeks. “You!” He walked up to her and grabbed Seul by the collar of her hanbok raising her up in the air as if she was a mere object. “You, of all people, you are the one who betrays me. Have I not given you anything?” She turned away from him which only angered him even more. “Have I not?!” Gwi shook her by the collar violently.
“You have only given me death.” She whispered turning to him. “You are a MONSTER!” She spit on his face causing his hands to release her on the floor.
Yeo-wool neared behind Gwi silently with his sword in hand. Seul looked up to him and her eyes grew wide. “I am a monster too.” She chuckled to her feet while Gwi could only stare back at her in rage; this was it, the last straw, he was going to finish her right here, right now. “Monsters...” Yeo-wool raises his sword, “Monsters die together!” Seul pressed her body tightly against Gwi’s and turned around in a swift moment. Seul gasped feeling the sword strike right through her back flowing deeper into her and Gwi.
Her teary eyes looked up at her master. “If the master falls…” Her breath trembles, “his servant falls with him.” She coughed blood from her mouth while his pale hand reached up to cup one cheek and brush a thumb softly against her peach color fading pale.
“I have not fallen.” Her brows furrowed at her master while a hand reached up to his collar tugging on it with her balled fist.
“I will be the end of you...someday, it’s a promise.” Her last words uttered out of her mouth as she began to feel herself slip into oblivion. I will kill you Gwi, even if it means I have to go through many lifetimes to find you. I will not stop until I am satisfied with your blood running through my hands, like you have done to my husband, Han-sung.
Seul’s lifeless body rested onto Gwi’s chest while the cave, his throne, everything began to be consumed in large rocks, dirt, and dust. An opening of light shined on both their bodies. He laughed in a sinister manner to himself looking up feeling the rays of light burn his pale glowing skin. “Beautiful.” His deep voice uttered as he fluttered his eyes closed and unintentionally embraced Seul’s lifeless body before disappearing into dust.
Sun-woo and Ban-ryu both noticed a body struggling to get back onto his feet while piles of dust and rocks tumbled behind him. “It is Yeo-wool!” They both hopped off their horses and scattered to aid him.
“Good work men.” King Rang Ji-dwi signaled his men to keep destroying the cave of the most feared vampire of the kingdom. He turned to see Sun-woo and Ban-ryu hold onto Yeo-wool. “You are alive?” He rose a brow in surprise.
Ban-ryu furrowed his eyes at the King. “You ordered them to demolish the cave knowing Yeo-wool was inside!” Sun-woo grabbed onto his collar before he began to act irrationally.
“We presumed him dead. What did you expect? Yeo-wool against a vampire? What could you possible think would happen?” Ji-dwi snapped before turning back to the cave that is nothing now but a place now ruined. “Enough, we shall return home!” He ordered. “Sun-woo take him with you.” Ji-dwi ordered before turning away with his horse.
Sun-woo held Yeo-wool close to him while his hand dug deep in the ground ripping weeds. “I could have saved him, I could have saved him.” Yeo-wool repeated closing his eyes seeing the photographic memory of his friend’s body chained and hanging near the vampire’s throne. “He was still alive.” Tears were released from his closed eyes. “I could have saved him!” He watched in terror how Gwi’s hand became a claw deep into Han-sung’s throat letting a river of blood flow from the younger’s throat down to his terrified eyes onto a silver bowl below that waited to be filled in innocent...blood.
“I should have died in there!” Yeo-wool burst into uncontrollable tears while Sun-woo held onto him tightly. “I want him back, I want my friend back!” He wailed into Sun-woo’s chest.
Tears began to fill in Sun-woo’s eyes. “We all do.” He whispered. “We all do.”
Ban-ryu walked away from the pair near the pile of rocks and pulled out his sword. With a grunt the sword pierced through the soil deep into the ground while the other two turned to him. Ban-ryu ignored the other two and began to get on his knees and bow his head deep pressing his forehead to the ground.
The sounds of footsteps neared themselves to him after a while. Sun-woo and Yeo-wool did the same in respect to their lost friend. All three men pulled a lace from their hair and tied them around the sword to honor Seul. “May Han-sung and Seul rest in peace. Hopefully we will meet in our next life.” Ban-ryu spoke his final words to the departed couple while the trio each placed a hand on the sword. “We will never forget this day.”
~ Seoul 1990’s ~
“And that is how the legend for centuries has been told of the servant Seul and a warrior Han-sung, lovers torn by a cruel vampire.” The old female guide concluded. The audience and tourists of the museum applauded.
An American girl rose her hand. “So is this a real legend that was proven true or just a made up story?”
“Miss this story has been around for centuries and it is hard to tell if it comes of origin of truth or not. The only evidence we have of now is the sword of warrior Rang Ban-ryu.” The guide turned back to the rusted sword on display behind her. “It perhaps could be true. If you believe in vampires that is.” The lady rolled her eyes with a chuckle. “Let’s move along now.”
A young Korean woman in the crowd let them all pass her as they moved to the next section. She clearly stood in front of the sword staring back at in awe. Her reflection on the glass revealed her in a pair of white sneakers and a flowy dress revealing the bump in her stomach. She walked up to it. “I always loved this story.” She furrowed her brows with a frown. “I believe in vampires. I believe this story is true. Don’t you think so honey?” She smiled down to her stomach and gave it a little tap. She suddenly realized she hasn’t given her baby girl a name yet. “Seul.” She whispered curiously before smiling. “Seul. Do you like it? Mommy is going to name you Seul. You think it’s a pretty name?” She tapped her stomach again with a giggle.
“Miss, it would be lovely if you cared to join us before you get lost in here.” The guide snapped at the pregnant woman.
“Oh yes of course.” She revealed a fake smile to the rude guide. As soon as the guide turned on her heel the girl mischievously eyed the guide’s heels and made a flicking signal with her index and thumb, the guide tripped over herself embarrassingly as she tried to get up with a flushed face.
“Come people nothing to see let’s just continue!” She tried to shrug it off.
The girl chuckled turning back to eye the sword one last time before reaching the group. She tapped her stomach. “Seul be careful not to do what mommy just did, okay. This family doesn’t need another mischievous witch in the family.” She chuckled and gasped feeling a kick respond to her. “You’re gonna grow up just fine.” She rubbed her tummy.
Suddenly on the corner of her eyes she noticed something lean and black bump into her. “Oh!” She turned to see a dark hat cover everything except the stranger’s red lips and pale cheeks; He wears a formal dark suit. “I’m sorry.” She apologized but he didn’t even mind to look at her and kept walking. He’s different. She thought as it sent shivers down her spine. He’s different just like me, just like us, Seul. She pressed a hand to her stomach. Except his aura is...more threatening. She cocked her head to see the figure continue walking away from her in a hurry. What are you?

Sado
Tumblr media
"Who are you?”
He met her the first time that night, the night he discreetly confronted his enemy, when he took what was stolen. At the same time, declaring a war.
“No, did you kill my father?”
He was stunned to her surprisingly calm questioning. He might be some kind of thief or even an assassin who tried to kill her father, but she didn’t even flinch to his dark and masked sight.
He stopped and stared at her for a short while. He could just leave before other people came, but he just couldn’t. He thought that she was so pretty, her round eyes and plum lips. Even on the dim light he could see her pink cheeks. She was just so delicate.
Her eyes too, never left him. Curious of the wanderer.
“You said you’re a king..?”
He was taken aback at her attempt at breaking his silent. He retreated a little, still no words. She must heard their conversation.
Not long, sounds of steps could be heard, some of the housekeepers were walking in. Without more thinking, he looked for her hand then fled the room, taking her to the back of the grand house.
“Your father’s all right,” he said quietly, taking of his mask, “I didn’t kill him.”
He revealed his face to her, now looking at her again. He could see her faint smile as she was relief of his father, also that the man was not a murderer after all.
“I know what my father did,” she mumbled, her tone sadder but then she was smiling dimly to him, “you don’t need to explain anything to me.”
“..about who you are as well.”
Sam Maek Jong eyes widen as he thought that this girl was something else.
“Are you a Hwarang?” She asked while picking up his Hwarang headband from the ground. It must be fallen from his pocket while they entered the shed rushing.
“I’m Banryu’s step-sister, Sado.”
-
Sam Maek Jong was sure that he was not on his right mind, asking Pa Oh to find her whereabouts since morning. She was the enemy’s daughter after all, or his friend’s sister.
Pa Oh found her and now he ended up at the market, she was going towards the book shop at the end of the street. Sam Maek Jong, as curious and interested as he is went in right away.
“Are you following me?” she clearly remembered this wandering man, he was going here and there with his upside-down ‘History of Panda’ book.
“I was just, uh,” Sam Maek Jong was taken aback, his eyes widen as he scratched his head, eyes looking elsewhere other than her.
She let out a chuckle at his particular actions. She did found this stranger adorable.
“Come here,” she called him and let him sit next to her to read his book.
Ever since they always meet at that little book shop, he sneaked out or he went every time Hwarang got a day off.
-
One afternoon Sam Maek Jong was on his newly favorite place, waiting for her.
“Your Majesty!” He could see Pa Oh walking fast with rather concerned expression towards him. He didn’t have a good feeling about this.
“Lady Sado,” Pa Oh stopped on his sentence while taking his breathe.
“What happened?” Sam Maek Jong was starting to worry, his protector was not looking exactly as happy as usual.
“Here, Your Majesty.” Pa Oh said simply while handling Sam Maek Jong a letter.
“Lady Sado’s servant delivered this,” Pa Oh said while carefully observing his worried master, “She said she cannot come today.”
Sam Maek Jong untied the letter immediately, read it in seconds.
I believe my father’s servant seemed to notice that I have been seeing a certain young man every now and then. I just don’t want to make it difficult for you. I sincerely apologize.
“Or any other day,” Pa Oh said continuing his sentences quietly, afraid to make Sam Maek Jong even more sad after the letter.
From then on, Sam Maek Jong never see her on that book shop again. Pa Oh never found her on the market either.
-
One day, after two weeks of wandering and relentless brooding from his master, Pa Oh came to his Master all smiling.
“Your Majesty!” Pa Oh ran to Sam Maek Jong, impatiently as he almost jump to him, “I believe I have bring you good news!”
His eyes grew big, the only good news he needs was her.
“Here you go, Majesty,” Pa Oh smiled so big, he had his eyes shaped like a half-moon. All he cares is his master’s happiness and not less.
Do not want to get carried away with Pa Oh’s excitement, Sam Maek Jong opened the letter.
Hello. I am so sorry to ask you this, but I will be at the night fair this following Saturday, it would be nice to apologize to you in person.
He smiled a big one, he was just so happy at the possibility of meeting her.
-
“Hi,” she was smiling, happy to see the man standing apart.
“Sado?” his eyes turned rounder, surprised to see her right in front of him. Slowly he was smiling, happy to finally found her.
“Come here,” suddenly she grabbed his hand this time, making him widen his eyes even more as he unknowingly blushing. He followed as she was taking him to one of the empty tents.
“Ah, I am sorry,” she said, letting go of his hand, blushing herself. Now shades of pink could be seen from the two.
“I miss you,” Sam Maek Jong said straight. While flustered on his own make, he did said his thoughts and not hesitate on announcing it.
Her eyes widen in surprise to his words, and then started to chuckle a little.
“I, I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t need to,” he said simply then running his hand to her hair, had his eyelashes on hers.
He kissed her slowly.
-
Not far from their tents, Banryu was on a quest himself. Finding Soo Yeon in the big fair was not so easy. Sneaking up from his father, her father, also her brother.
He went from tent to tent, then went into the one where he ended up seeing the view he never thought he would. His sister with a man. That’s Ji Dwi.
“Sado!” Surprised as he was, he went straight to Sam Maek Jong then smashed his face.
“Banryu!” Sado’s went to Sam Maek Jong who was on the ground after Banryu’s blow.
“What do you think you’re doing?!” Banryu roared to his Hwarang’s roommate.
“I am sorry, but I like this woman a lot.” Sam Maek Jong said boldly while was wiping his bloodied lips, “I like your sister a lot.”
“You, ***(insert your own swear words)!” Banryu approached Sam Maek Jong again, trying to land a punch again.
“Stop it, Banryu!” But Sado got in between them in time.
“It’s my choice,” She said assuredly, looking straight at his brother’s eyes, “so, you can do anything about it.”
-
“Ah,” Sam Maek Jong hissed while Sado was applying some medicine for his cut lip.
“Sorry,” her apology was serious.
“Why?” Sam Maek Jong smiled, and changed his question, “what is your choice?”
She looked down and was silent for a second.
“I decided that I want to see more of you,” she said smiling aloud.
Note:
My first hwarang scenario! I made the girl named Sado if that’s allright. Park Young Shil’s (Ban Ryu’s adopted-father) daughter who married King Jinheung in history named Sado. So, I tried to connect that to the story. Tell me if you’d like to hear this Sado’s scenario. Thanks for requesting and (maybe) waiting for the scenario. I still have two requests, but I am so slow. Life’s been too too busy and all:(
Pls enjoy and maybe tell me what you guys think, I’m not a pro hehe. I don’t know if you guys like it or not, but<3
Request :
I was wondering if you could do a scenario with sam maek Jong/ji dwi where you are ban ryus step-sister but are having a secret relationship with him  (ji dwi) so you spend a lot of time with him. Your brother ban ryu doesn’t like the fact that you are around him much and always drags you away from him or something like that until until ji dwi confesses the relationship to him
** I do not own any of the characters portrayed in this also the gif is not mine, the story as well is fictional.

Hwarang: The End
Tumblr media
Well, this drama came to an end and I need to let my feelings and impressions out #rantingmodeactivated.
This last episode, for me, was a reiteration of everything that was good and worked, and everything that was bad and spoiled the show for me. One man’s meat is another man’s poison, I guess.
First, the good: I could see a slimmer of the things that drew me in in the first place, such as the cooperation between friends and even family. The cast that I loved. I am glad that Sun Woo ended up getting behind Jinheung and worked together with him to defeat the corrupt official. This collaborating force is what I have been waiting and rooting for. But it was ‘too little, too late’, sadlly :(.
However, the bad outweighs the good. Even in this last episode, the secondary characters were given next to none screen time or resolution of their problems. So Ban Ryu is an outcast now? Moreover, are we supposed to believe that the King would allow that to happen to his friend, just like that? Would he not give Ban Ryu his blessing and allow him to marry? The Queen dying and no one thought to go find her children?
In addition, for me, the worst issue is the way Sam Maek Jong was treated. As if he was just a puppet that was allowed to finally seat in his throne because Sun Woo felt like it in the end.
The King is an actual historical figure, and was even referred to as King Jinheung the Great. The greatness seemed to be given to the fictional main character. I am well aware of the initial disclaimer that states that all characters in the drama are fictional. The King is not fictional, however, and his figure was all but butchered. They even made another character try to claim his rightful throne. A character, I might add, who cannot even read. I have all the respect for Sun Woo and his personal circumstances and hardships, but his capabilities were greatly exaggerated. He might have some leadership skills, but the competences for becoming king are honed since almost birth. It simply was not plausible, yet the drama made it seem as if Sun Woo was the right choice, being backed by everyone. Regardless of how many disclaimers they make, it is not fair to history, to the real King Jinheung, and also to us, the viewers that rooted for him.
I am glad it ended, but also I can help but feel sad and bitter about what could have been, but wasn’t: Sam Maek Jong becoming strong’s non-existent arc, the non-existent teamwork, non-existent group friendship, the absurd death of Han Sung (I am not a BTS fan, it’s just that his death provided nothing for the story), the insistence on a pointless love triangle, etc.
I will try to remember the good, though. Specially Park Hyung Shik. I never expected to discover he was such a great actor! I hope we get to see him in another sageuk, he really shined and portrayed a great character regardless of the limitations of the script. In the meantime, this very Friday we’ll get to see him again in the small screen hehe.
If you read till the end, thank you for enduring this loong rant! :)

Drama Review: Hwarang
The biggest disappointment of 2016 and probably 2017, screw you writers.
Rating: 2/5. If I’m being generous, 2.5.
OST: I wasn’t the biggest fan, but that might have just been my hatred for the drama boiling over onto everything else. When you listen to the album, there are some good songs. But they kept playing the same two bland songs over and over again. I personally recommend It’s Definitely You by V and Jin, and Memories of a Miracle by Jeon Woosung. Hyungsik’s song is really nice too.
Genre: Romantic Comedy, Historical
Synopsis: History is often made on the backs of truly passionate, talented young people. During the Kingdom of Silla, a group of elite youth known as Hwarang (literally "Flowering Knights") would wield great influence. These dashing, talented knights – Moo Myung, Sam Maek Jong, Soo Ho, Ban Ryu, Yeo Wool, Han Sung, and maiden Ah Ro – could outsmart and outfight anyone as they pushed for justice in Seorabeol, the capital city. One of them would become King Jin Heung of Silla and change the course of history.
Thoughts/Review: (spoilers)
This drama was a mess, and I’m going to rip into it. If you don’t want to hear what I believe are legitimate reasons this drama was bad, then don’t read further.
I’ll get what I liked out of the way in the beginning because there’s not much. The actors were all great. I thought the actors who played the Hwarang embodied their characters to the T and you could really feel the bromance and how well they got along off set. When their was comedy, it was great. I loved how Ah Ro called Sam Maek Jong out after the forced kiss. “If kissing me against my will wasn’t a mistake, then was it a childish tantrum?” was the best line of the entire drama. Plot-wise: I loved the romance between Ban Ryu and Soo Yeon.
That’s about it.
This drama was an overwhelming disappointment. I waited so damn long because they kept pushing the air date back, which only built up the hype more. Then they had all these promotions with the six boys, and I was SO excited.
That is my first complaint. The synopsis is bullshit. The drama is not about our lovely “dashing, talented knights” rather it is about a pathetic love triangle with a female lead who does nothing but get into trouble and cry.
This drama was about the Hwarang. It was called Hwarang. There was not enough Hwarang.
It started out very promising, and with a great cameo from Lee Kwang Soo, and the comedy was pretty great. But the more you watch, the more it goes to shit. The reason I kept watching is because I wanted to see how things turned out. I’ve been a fan of Hyungsik’s since High Society and enjoy watching his dramas. Minho and V are my babies. And I fell in love with Do Ji Han and Ban Ryu’s character.
The first mistake was making Ah Ro think Moo Myung was her brother. The two of them did not have chemistry, and I think that just sort of killed anything that could have bloomed between them. There was no development in their romance, there was a weak attempt at internal conflict with Ah Ro and her feelings, and then they were all of the sudden in love with each other.
Also, there was literally no point for them to lie to her. This wasn’t like That Winter the Wind Blows when he was trying to scam her. They should have just told her “Hey, your brother died, this is his friend and I want to take care of him out of respect for your brother.” and then given her her right to mourn her brother’s death. Looking back, that was the first sign to get out while I could.
Their romance wasn’t the only romance I had a problem with. It was Soo Ho’s crush on the queen. If they had cast someone else as the queen, it might have been tolerable. But I could not stand the queen. Could not stand her. The actress was expressionless and emotionless unless she was screaming over something stupid.
Second thing I disliked, the first being the romance lines, was the editing. It was really jumpy, and made the whole thing seem weird. For example that one scene in like episode 7 or 8 where Moo Myung fell off the horse. He hadn’t shown signs of any problem for the past like five episodes and all of the sudden he blacked out and fell off his horse with no pulse, and suddenly Ah Ro regrets all of the terrible things she yelled at him literally three seconds before in a different scene. SPEAKING OF WHICH did they ever explain why he passed out? I don’t think they did? Add that to the list of problems...
The third thing I disliked was Ah Ro. She was so boring. I don’t blame Go Ara (entirely... some things she did and certain lines she delivered annoyed me) but the character was really poorly written. She was really shallow with barely any background or personality. All the writers had her do was run around between the two boys and cry. Her most interesting scenes were when she was acting as a physician, and there were hardly any. When they did happen, they lasted for merely seconds. Then she went back to crying and moping about Moo Myung.
It was so damn repetitive. Moo Myung gets his dumb ass injured and Ah Ro cried about it. Or Ah Ro got her dumb ass in trouble, and cried about it.
Which leads me to my next problem.
My biggest issue with the drama: terrible writing.
Such poor writing. It took them forever to set up the story, the Hwarang weren’t formed until episode four. A drama that was supposed to center around them didn’t. We got to episode fifteen and the plot hadn’t progressed one bit. Episode 19 was literally a waste of time. And boy did they twist history.
First, I want to talk about Han Sung’s death and how it showcases the terrible writing. I remember before the episode aired, a ton of articles came out saying “BTS’s V’s character revealed to play a key part in setting the final conflict into motion.”
It’s a common trope when you have a group of friends; killing off the youngest, the purest, the last person who deserved to die. It’s used to really rip into that raw emotion of the main characters, and as the Hwarang writers were trying to do, set the final conflict into motion.
But they fell so flat. They spent less than half an episode killing him off, spent half the episode talking about him. Yeah I cried, but it was because of the emotion delivered by the actors. Taehyung did so well and so did Yoon Woo with his tears, but the second they opened up their mouths and delivered the dialogue + the editing of the scenes absolutely killed the suspense.
And his death was supposedly so important, but then they don’t even mention him again save for that one line by Yeo Wool in episode 19. Nobody even told Ah Ro that her precious friend died.
Now, about how badly they twisted history:
Someone on twitter explained this better, and I’m sorry if I butcher the facts, but the main thing is that they twisted history too much. I know that it’s necessary to do in historical dramas, but this was too much. History should be used as a guideline.
To explain: the Bone Rank system was a very real thing, and the writers twisted it to give Moo Myung a fictional character an illegitimate claim to the throne. As the person on twitter explained it, when the queen’s brother gave up the throne (i believe it was because of his illness) he gave up his entire family’s line to the throne. Meaning Moo Myung was not a sacred bone and had no right to the throne.
The pathetic two-episode “battle” for the throne was the worst thing they could have done for the drama. It was weak in intensity, dialogue, and emotion. And it was just plain stupid. Especially when you look at how historically significant King Jinheung was/is.
History aside, it’s still stupid. The writers spent 85% of the drama pushing Sam Maek Jong’s struggle against the queen and pushing that he is the rightful king, and then all of the sudden Moo Myung, who is supposed to be his friend, comes along and tries to steal the throne from him? Moo Myung is the main character, and the viewers are supposed to support him, but after all of the build-up behind Sam Maek Jong’s struggle to claim the throne, all I felt was sympathy towards Sam Maek Jong and resentmore towards Moo Myung for betraying his friend. That is not what I want to be feeling as a viewer.
Seriously, that is not how you sell a product to a consumer. That’s what dramas are: a product. The viewers watch dramas and support them with their money because they are captivating and enjoyable, not because it makes them feel like shit.
Did they not have editors? Did nobody really stop and think, “Hey this concept here doesn’t push the plot forward, rather it drives it backwards”???
You could tell through the OST the mood they were trying to set. They were trying to make Jinheung the enemy, but they absolutely failed.
And the ending.
I liked the swearing of the allegiance to Jinheung. It delivered the emotion it was supposed to and was exciting. That’s the only thing I liked.
The montage basically proved that Sam Maek Jong was the real main character.
And then, oh get this, they NEVER TOLD ANYBODY ELSE THEY WEREN’T RELATED. I get that everyone probably made the connection on their own but like the viewer has to assume since nobody ever actually put it into words and it’s like jesus you can’t just drop a plotline like that. SUCH. MESSY. WRITING.
And what pisses me off the most:
Ban Ryu and Soo Yeon’s had a half-assed resolution.
Soo Ho had no resolution
BAN RYU AND SOO HO HAD NO RESOLUTION
LITERALLY THE LAST THING SAID BETWEEN THE TWO WAS SOO HO TELLING BAN RYU TO STAY AWAY FROM SOO YEON OR SOMETHING STUPID
where the fuck was Yeo Wool
And then they had a riding into the sunset, THEY RODE INTO THE FUCKING SUNSET, without Soo Ho.
I mean I understand if Minho had SHINee activities and couldn’t make it, but like they could have done something different to include him. At least say that he left and went of to travel or something.
This drama was pathetic and I’m glad it’s over. I feel bad for the actors whose hard work was wasted in bad writing, editing, and directing. I look forward to seeing them in other projects, but I am never watching anything from this writer again.

Ban Ryu and Soo Yeon (Fan Fiction)
Ban Ryu’s not feeling well these past few days. He can’t talk to anyone without them getting yelled at and he get irritated easily for no apparent reason. Not that it’s something new but there is something inside of him and he can’t fathom the reason why.
“Yah! What’s wrong with you? Why are you so quiet?” He automatically massage his temple when he heard Soo Ho’s voice. He’s really getting on his nerves lately.
“I’m always quiet.” He replied adamantly.
“You’re not planning something ridiculous, are you? Ban Ryu, I’m warning you.”
He sighed. He’s getting sick of Soo Ho’s accusation and he knew that there’s nothing he can do to change his opinion about him.
They’re in their dormitory right now after such a long tiring day and he just want to rest peacefully. However, he is well-informed that that wish is impossible since all of his so called roommates are present right now.
“Soo Ho, leave the poor boy alone. You just can’t get enough of him, eh?” Said the narcissistic Yeo Wool.
He gritted his teeth. His head is already throbbing for goodness sake! He didn’t even have the strength to change his robes. Why can’t these punks can’t stay quiet?
“Ah, no. I’m just making sure he didn’t get us into trouble again. We don’t know, maybe his father is planning something. Oh, who’s that father by the way? Your biological father or the adoptive father?”
“Why, you!” He’s ready to land a punch on Soo Ho’s face when they heard a noise from the other side of their room.
“Is she really alright? She’s not going to die, right?” he heard the frantic voice of Master We Hwa’s assistant, Pi Joo-ki. He knows him since he’s the one who delivered Soo Yeon’s letter for him for a couple of times.
He shake his head. This is not good. He thought to himself. He’s thinking about her again.
“Aigoo! I know you and Miss Soo Yeon are crazy, but I didn’t know that you will go that far.”
“Woah! My sister’s in trouble again?” He heard Soo Ho’s bewildered voice. He noticed that all of them are paying attention now to whoever was talking on the other side. He’s becoming anxious already especially now that he knows it involved Soo Yeon.
“What if she’ll never recover?” Pi Jo-ki asked again nervously. “You shouldn’t have drunk if you know that will happen!”
“Aish! Keep it down, will you?”
“That’s Miss Ah Ro’s voice!” Han Sung shouted excitedly. “Hmmm… I wonder what happened.”
That’s exactly what’s he’s thinking right now. She’s not sending him her letter anymore and maybe that’s the reason why he’s becoming more and more hot tempered as the days passed by. She’s her angel. He may not say it but she is. And so, he doesn’t know what he’ll do if something bad will happen to her.
“What will you do if one this is Master Soo Ho’s room? He shouldn’t know what happened to Soo Yeon or else we’ll both going to die. Arasso?”
None of them stopped Soo Ho when he opened the door and grab Ah Ro and Pi Jo-ki inside. Shocked is evident on their faces when they realized that it’s their room after all.
“What do you mean by I shouldn’t know what happened to Soo Yeon? Wae? She’s my sister I have every right to know.“Soo Ho asked calmly, however, it’s really obvious he’s only controlling himself to not to explode.
“I.. Uh.. Uhm…”
“Spill it already!”
“Yah! Don’t shout at her.” Said the overprotected Sun Woo while standing up.
“Do you want to die a miserable death? Treat her right or your else…” Warned Ji Dwi as he moved forward to emphasize what he meant.
Ah Ro raised both her hands, “Guys, calm down…”
Ban Ryu almost laugh with what she said. How can he calm down when they are talking about Soo Yeon here? She must be joking.
“Uhm… She’s okay. Nothing bad happened to her.” She laughed awkwardly, “Pi Jo-ki is just overreacting.” She nudged him to agree with her. “Hmmm… Right?”
“I can sense that someone is lying.” Yeo Wool encircled Ah Ro and Pi Jo-ki while fanning himself as he was inspecting them just like what he did with Ji Dwi.
“I can sense that as well.” Han Sung agreed while nodding.
Everybody is staring to the both of them now. The tension is very thick nobody wants to speak first
Ban Ryu folded his arms in front of him. He’s very nervous he can’t think about anything. The moment he heard Soo Yeon’s name he became uneasy. He knew deep down that something is wrong. He just hope that it’s not something serious.
Soo Ho turned his attention to Pi Jo-ki, “What happened to her?” He can sense anger in his voice and he can’t blame him if he’s being an asshole again. Well, he’s always an asshole but for the first time in forever, he’s thankful that he’s like that. Because if not, he might kill them himself for not answering their questions.
Pi Jo-ki stuttered, “I t-think s-she’s going to die.”
Ban Ryu took a deep breath, “What did you say?” He really can’t take it anymore. They have no idea how hard it was for him to stay put without doing anything knowing that Soo Yeon’s life is at stake. He was expecting an acceptable answer and this is what he got? They really want to die, huh?
“Aish! You’re so annoying. "Ah Ro interjected. She gave Pi Jo-ki an annoyed expression before continuing. "Soo Yeon and I went out for a drink.” She glared at Sun Woo and Soo Ho when they tried to interrupt her. “It’s not like it’s our first time drinking. Anyway, we finished four buckets of alcohol. Huh! Don’t act so shocked. Girls can be like that, you know.”
“When we decided to go home I noticed how pale she is and she’s also sweating so hard. She said she’s alright so I thought it was nothing. And then suddenly, she started vomiting. At first, I thought it’s normal since we drank a lot of beer, but no. The moment she fainted I know something is wrong. Mind you, she has a high tolerance for alcohol.”
She stopped talking to breathe in some air. “I brought her in our house so father can check her up. Father said that the alcohol acted as a poison to her body. Yes, it is possible when the alcohol content is greater than the water content in your body. We’re lucky Pi Jo-ki and I brought her on time there because it might be too late for her if we didn’t.”
“So, she’s really okay?”
“Yes, she’s okay. I told you, Pi Jo-ki is just overreacting. She’s resting in our house now. She didn’t want to go home because she didn’t want to worry your father.”
They all sigh in relief when they heard her story.
“My sister is such a troublemaker.”
“She got it from you."Han Sung commented that made all of them laugh except for Ban Ryu.
He stormed out of their room and started running before either of them can stop him. He ignored their shouts of warning. He didn’t care if they will get punished tomorrow or if he will be punched to death by Soo Ho.
All he care about is her. Knowing that she’s okay is not enough for him. He wanted to see for himself that she’s really alright.
Soo Yeon is his beacon in the darkness. He needs her in his life so much because she is good and functional. And she is the first person who genuinely tells him how awesome he is and believes in him. Unlike his family who only keeps on demanding and using him as a mere means to an end-gaining power which he clearly didn’t want.
All he ever wanted is the ability to protect his biological father. With Soo Yeon, he doesn’t need to reach some impossible standards. She is not ordering him anything; she doesn’t care for him because he is a powerful true bone. In her, he finally finds someone who likes him the way he is.
So he needs to be with her right now no matter what the consequences will be. He needs to be with her before it’s too late. To hell with rules, it’s there for you to break.
——
Soo Yeon can’t sleep. She kept on rolling from side to side of Ah Ro’s bed. She’s still not feeling well though but she’s getting better.
"I’ll never drink again…” She said to herself.
She decided to go out of bed when she realized that she’ll never fall asleep. She checked herself first in the mirror before going out. She knew that no one is at home right now since the royal guards fetched master Ahn Ji awhile ago. But still, she wanted to look presentable if someone will see her.
Silence welcomed her when she opened Ah Ro’s door. She took a deep breath and inhaled the fresh air before she went straight to where she found Ah Ro and her brother writing before. It’s also where they used to play when they were still kids.
She sat at the edge of the bench and she let herself enjoy the sound of silence. The sky is full of stars tonight. How she wish she’s with someone whom she could cuddle and enjoy the beautiful view together.
Without any second thought, Ban Ryu automatically came to her mind. Just the thought of him makes her heart flutter and she realized that misses him so much.
It’s been a week since she stopped sending him her letters. It’s not like she wanted to do it, she just didn’t want Ban Ryu to get annoyed by her. But damn! She missed him.
She wants to see his face even from far afar. She wants to hear his voice. She wants to see his rare smile and hear his rare laugh. And she wants to be with him right now.
She sighed. What is she thinking? She must stop thinking about the impossible. “You’re such an idiot Soo Yeon. Stop that or else you will lose him eventually.” She squeal out of frustration and just to prove how crazy she is, she starts slapping herself from left to right. “You’re such an idiot. Idiot. Idiot. Idiot.”
“What are you doing?”
She laughed sarcastically, “And now you’re hearing his voice? God! Stop that Soo Yeon.”
“Why are you here?”
When she realized that she’s not imagining things, she slowly turned her way to where the voice came from. And there he is, looking handsome as ever. She stand immediately when she saw Ban Ryu just to feel nauseous by her sudden movement.
Before she hit the ground, strong arms held her in place. “Are you okay?” He laid her slowly on the bench and how much she wanted to cry by how gentle he did it.
Without even thinking, she cupped his face. “You’re really here?” She asked hopefully. She’s afraid that she might be dreaming, but if this is just a dream she doesn’t want to wake up.
Ban Ryu just nodded. “Why are you outside at this hour? It’s cold.” He sat down beside her. She smiled. Her heart is beating so fast she’s afraid it will burst out from her chest.
“I can’t sleep so I decided to get some fresh air.” He just hummed in agreement. Ban Ryu is really quiet, he’s also cold and arrogant sometimes but she knows deep down that she’s a good person. And she will never complain or wish that he will change because she just loves him the way he is.
She looked at his way and that’s when she noticed that he is still wearing his robes in Hwarang. She panicked when she realized what that means. “You’re not allowed to leave Hwarang house, right? Why are you here? Do you want to get punished?"She’s really worried about him now.
He bite his lips. That lips. Soo Yeon shake her head. She shouldn’t be thinking about that right now. "Oh… I’m just here to check on someone.” He looked at her with that eyes that can pierce through your soul. She looked away because for some reason she is hoping that she is that someone.
“You’re not sick, are you?” She touched his forehead and compared it to hers. “You’re hot.”
“Yeah, I know.”
She rolled her eyes and laugh. “Not that kind of hot.” Her heart skip a beat when he smiled, she wants to see that every day. “If you’re here to see Master Ahn Ji, he’s not here right now. Ah Ro’s still at Hwarang house so you should let her check you up instead of risking your life here.”
He laughed. She heaves out a sigh of contentment when she heard it. She’s happy that she’s making him laugh however she’s afraid that he will get into trouble.
Ban Ryu look her in the eyes, and before she knew it he’s patting her in the head already. “Silly. I’m here for you.”
Did she hear it right? He’s here for her? She is that “someone”? “What did you say?”
“I heard what happened.”
“Oh…” Funny how it might sound but she knows what he meant by that simple words already. Embarrassments field her system. She knows that drinking with Ah Ro awhile ago was not a good idea but she still insisted. If she only knew this will happen, she’ll never drink even a drop of alcohol. But she just wants to forget him even for awhile and she thought that drinking is the answer. She just didn’t expect that it will turn out this way. Ah! She will really kill Ah Ro for telling him what happened.
She raised her right hand and she turned her attention to him, “Master Ban Ryu, I will promise that I will never drink again.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Promise?”
Even if he didn’t find out, she already promised herself to not to drink so it’s not that difficult for her to let out this kind of statement. “Promise.”
They both smile. How she wish they can be like that forever.
Silence field them after that embarrassing moment. It’s that kind of silence that makes you feel secure and she really didn’t mind if they just stay there like that.
However Ban Ryu break the silence. He cleared his throat first before speaking. “This has been bothering me lately, but are you mad at me?”
Shocked was an understatement with what she felt when she heard his question. “What? Of course not!” She will never get mad at him. “I should be the one asking that.”
Confusion was over Ban Ryu’s face, “Why?”
She looked away, “I’m afraid I’m annoying you by sending you my letters. I’m sorry. I just want to check if you’re okay without even thinking if it’s bothering you or not.”
She heard him sigh. She wants to scold herself for being such a nuisance. And then suddenly she felt her chin being lifted up by him.
“Look at me.” He ordered. “Listen, I’m not annoyed by you or your letters. I even enjoy reading it. Don’t feel bad about yourself.” He smiled.“Believe it or not, I miss it the moment you stopped sending me anything.”
“So can I send you letters again?” She asked.
“Of course.”
“Really?”
He touched her cheek. “Yes.”
She smiled widely after hearing his words. She’s glad it’s okay with him that she’s like that.
She stand up, “Let’s drink some tea first before you go back to Hwarang house. I’ll brew a tea that will make you feel better.” She held his hand. “Let’s go.”
“Okay.” His only answer and after that he let himself be dragged by her.
She’s happy, like really happy. She’s okay with their situation right now. She’s not asking for more. She’s contented that he’s by her side right now talking, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. This is the kind of man that she loves, and she will never regret loving him.

Ban Ryu 2.2
Soo Yeon point of view.
I moved to get up but my head swam. I couldn’t see, everything had turned to stars and I couldn’t figure out which way was up or down, left or right.
I rested a hand on the mattress and tried to keep myself from swaying and falling sideways off the bed. I turned and rested my head on the bed with my arms cradling my head in foetal position but now the pain in my bandaged thigh burned and stung.
Where was Ban Ryu?

Ban Ryu - 2.1
“Ban Ryu,” I called softly in my poison induced sleep. The last thing I remember was the stinging pain that slashed across the inside of my thigh.
My eyelids fluttered and I could make out the blur of his room, the poetry scrolls on the wall, and the dark wooden furnishings.
More to come

Conversation
By the River - Ban Ryu - 1.1
BanRyu in his Hwarang uniform sees you scrubbing a load of clothes by the river, sleeves held up at your elbows and pant legs up to your knees, feet bare in the shallows on the pebbles.
He quickly looks away and starts to head back while worrying about what men might spy your bare skin while you worked. So he thinks to take a look around to make sure no one else is around for now.
Suddenly, he hears you splashing into the middle of the river, chasing a piece of cloth that is floating away.
You are chest deep in the water now and reach for the cloth but the action plunges it under the surface, your fingers slip on the fabric and you lose your footing and fall. You have just enough time to hold your breath before you are submerged and the current carries you away.
Your eyes are closed and you try desperately to return upright when a strong arm clutches you and pulls. Your head breaches the surface and you breathe in big gasp. You're tired from the fight, so you close your eyes and rest your head on your saviour. He drags you back to the river bank.
You feel him lay you down on the sand and pebbles. They're rough on your arms and legs. You hear his laboured breathing and he pats your face.
"Hey, wake up. Miss."
Your eyes open and look into his face. His brow are furrowed and eyes are staring at you intently.
"Miss, are you okay?" He looks me over.
"Oh" I nod.
He gets up and goes to your feet. That's when you realise your pant legs are still up and your face heats at the thought. You push yourself up on your left arm and look at him. He is on one knee and his head is craned over, inspecting your foot. He looks at you.
"Ai, your foot is bleeding," He points to the hurting foot. You can now feel the sting on your sole and the stubbed toes.
He walks away to grab a piece of clothing you had washed earlier and soaks it in the river.
He returns with the cloth, kneels down and looks at you for permission. You look away. He reaches for your foot and wipes at the injuries. You recoil your leg and he holds onto your foot. He comes closer.
"Endure it for just a bit. It needs to be clean." He gently cleans your wounds and you brave a look at him. When he is done, he starts to rip a piece of his clothing.
"There's old cloth there," you say. His uniform looked expensive but he was already stripping it up. He looks at you and reaches palms up for your foot. You gingerly give it to him and he wrap and ties it with a firm, practised hand.
