[S2. Ep 6. The demons have invaded the bookshop.]

The demons were moving back up the iron stairs. 

"We can't - we can't stop them." Maggie turned wide eyes to Aziraphale. "What do we do?" 

More books would not be enough. He was frankly surprised that they had worked a well as they had. These lot were certainly not Hell's finest. He'd have almost convinced them to leave, if not for Shax. She was the real problem here. The three of them kept being lucky, but they only had to misstep once. 

Where was Crowley? 

He'd told Nina he had his own plans, but really he'd expected Crowley to burst in, just on time. Like he always had. But just in time had passed. 

He stuffed down his panic. Right beside his worry that Crowley was out there, somewhere. And even a poor excuse for a demonic legion was plenty enough peril separating them. 

But he could not let them get Maggie and Nina. He could not let them get Gabriel.

He steeled himself. "Desperate measures must be taken." At least without Crowley here, this would be safe enough. 

He'd never actually done it with a corporation before. He reached into the boundary between his corporation and his ethereal essence for his holy circlet. Found the seam, and pulled. 

The pain. He hadn't realized it would hurt like this, pulling the concentrated essence of divinity into the world.

"I...haven't done this.. since the Great War," he gasped out. "It's something we're only meant to do when we're actually... on a wartime footing." 

Oh Lord it burned. Fear rose with the shrieking pain. He wasn't sure his corporation could take it.

He finally pulled it free with a grimace. Fought to get his breath back. Now was not the time to fiddle with shutting down his corporation's systems. 

He held it aloft a moment, and quickly checked for any trace of the demonic essence that was so long known and beloved. Nothing. 

Then he tossed the glowing circle gently over the balustrade. Watched it float down to the demons' feet. The flash of holy light burst in a shower of sparks, taking the demons with it.

"What did you just do?" Nina asked, awed. 

He swallowed down his misgivings. It was past time for all that, now. "I think.... I may have just started a war."

I have been calling him that for like,  fuck. weeks? I think I first used it on the kmeme because holy shit I love it, that is a portmanteau gifted by the motherfucking gods and I am using it everywhere possible. Plus it’s so viscerally satisfying to say. BAMFZIRAPHALE

No, but look, I can't stop thinking about the fact that Crowley is trying very hard to act like Aziraphale. Which means he's seen his angel make this I will end you gaze at least once, and potentially multiple times.

And if he happened to do so while Aziraphale was standing protectively in front of one demon that happened to make a bad decision and get in a little over his head, well. That just seems like something that you'd find on my Ao3 account.

"Aziraphale carefully began to take measure of Crowley's wounds. Most of it seemed centered around his wings which were… Aziraphale cringed. They would take time to heal, but none of the damage was life threatening. He gently ran his hands through the mess of red hair."

Aziraphale is happy to meet Hob Gadling for a drink; he'd heard of the immortal human though they'd never met. But he doesn't fully understand why Hob insisted that they meet, and his confusion grows as Hob picks his brain for stories from the early days of his love affair with the demon Crowley. All that has to wait, however, when a familiar face appears and throws their evening into chaos. Now instead of sipping brandy in the back of his bookshop Aziraphale has to traverse several realms he's never been to before (and one he hoped to never see again) to rescue Hob from Morpheus's scheming sibling.
