Tribe Banner concept art:

Folks seemed to enjoy my WOF WIPS, so here’s more concept art for y’all! My favorite thing about WOF is the potential for world building. I thought it’d be cool to see a tribe emblem represented on a banner/flag of sorts:

Read below for some of the thought process / headcannons behind the design choices: 👇

Skywing Banner:

Skywings pride themselves on 3 things; treasure, fire, & their enormous, soaring wingspan which steals the sky.

As such, portrayed on the banner, the fabric (often made with dyed cow or goat leathers) resembles draped dragon wings. Two Skywings embrace a goblet, which is spewing golden fire.

The banner is often held aloft with iron or gold poles, signifying to other tribes their wealth and pride.

Mudwing banner:

These banners are fashioned with leather hides from cow or crocodile skin, held aloft with bamboo, and painted with a Talon-print & Reed crest.

The talonprint symbolizes community and the strength of Mudwing sibling bonds. The reed border unifies all Mudwings regardless of their relationship to home; the swamp. Bigwings are often seen carrying these into battle, signifing their status and making it easier for a sib to locate them in the flurry of a fight.

Sandwing Banner:

Sandwing flags are made with camel skins and dyed cactus leather.

A crest shows a Sandwing coiled around a beaming sun, a reminder that despite the revered 3 moons, Sandwings are born to thrive in sunlight.

The fabric is cut in a way to mimic the swooping dunes of Sandwing territory. And the poles of the flags are equally intricate, with scorpion tails and golden ropes which frame the banner.

These flags make prominent appearances in parades, festivals, and markets, and even miniature version are often displayed in homes or as tapestries/carpets.

Seawing banner:

These banners are often seen displayed in royal quarters or councils, or above land to mark territory.

A nautilus shell crest on front echoes the swirl-pattern associated with royal Seawings: The banner’s borders resemble waves and a dragon swimming beneath their surface.

These are crafted with rich materials, strung with seashells, pearls, silver dollars, and deep oceanic color fabric. There is severe penalty for Seawings found plucking treasure from the banners, as they are a direct symbol of royalty.

Nightwing Banner:

These banners emphasize the Nightwings’ relationship to the moon, their source of power and praise. The material, a contrast of white stitching against purple velvet showcases moonlight and night, black scales against stars, magic and mystery.

They are seen decorated with 3 moons at the top and a centered dragon reaching up into the night sky.

These banners were often used during the war as secret code by spies to deliver to other tribes. Prophecy scrolls often came attached, delivering cryptic messages or secrets in the night. These banners all helped add to the secrecy of the Dragonet Prophecy, and kept tribes on their toes around Nightwings.

Rainwing banner:

Rainwing banners are not used for battle purposes like other tribes, most are mere decoration, location indicators, and have no unified design.

However, It is said back when Rainwings left the rainforest to trade pre-war, this particular banner design was often raised above Rainwing merchant tables, and showcases the coiled tail of a Rainwing with leaves, vines, and other sights from the rainforest adorning a bamboo pole. Bright color combinations accentuated the flag to entice curious customers.

Now, only one tattered version of the original Rainwing banner remains, displayed proudly in Queen Glory’s quarters, a reminder that building the Rainwings’ community is their most important goal.

Icewing Banner:

These banners reflect the same standards Icewings hold themselves to.

Like a visual of the rankings themselves, each banner is cut perfectly from an Icewing’s trained, serrated claws to resemble icicles, and crafted with fine blue stitching.

Flags are often held aloft with perfectly polished narwhal horn or bone, and can be inlaid with sapphires or diamond.

Icewing soldiers are often gifted these during ceremonies, and perform training exercises with the flags to test their stance/attentiveness. The crest showcases the swift sharpness of ice through a flying dragon, and a snowflake toward the bottom reminding Icewings that even minuscule snowflakes, small things, should be perfect in form.

Hermithouse update!

Aka the miniature wooden house I'm making for school / an art gallery, that I'm trying to add as many hermitcraft references to as possible!

Look at the lil bridge and spikey rocks i made for the outside area :D and all it took to make them was a small blood sacrifce! (<-this isn't a joke btw, i ended up getting hurt while using an electric saw... DW IT'S FINE ITS JUST A SMALL CUT LMFAO!!!)

The house is built on a river next to a forrest, but since i left that part in school over the weekend, i can't show yall my progress on it ;^;

Baldur's Gate 3 Companion Head Canon Music Edition

Ok soooo ! Recently my bestfriend and I wrote and composed a song about BG3 (which we might release one day) and it got me thinking about the Tadfools (as if I don’t already think of them 15 times a day) and imagined what their band would look like and which instruments they would play and thus voilà my rendition:

Karlach | Drums

Look at her and tell me she does not play the drums. She would sometimes have to be asked to stop because she would not notice everyone has stopped playing but her. She just has the proper energy, rhythm, not to mention arms, to rock that drum set and start a solo Whiplash style.

Lae'zel | Harmonica

“What is this shiny rectangle? “whistle metallically” Oh. This sounds… beautiful. Like the screeching of a blade on a sharpening stone, but… Better!” And that’s how Lae’zel picked up on the harmonica, true story, I was the harmonica!

Wyll | Main Vocal and Violin

Yes, Wyll would absolutely sing and dance and become an icon on the Sword Coast. He also plays the violin. I don’t know, maybe it’s the horns, but I could also see Duke Ravengard enrolling him at conservatoire at age 6 to play the violin. He writes most of the lyrics

Shadowheart | Bass and Back-up Vocals

Shadowheart is a bass player. Look at her smoky eyes and her pout: she obviously plays the bass! She matches her nail polish to the colour of her bass (black, purple, white). She is always down to jam and she also provides Wyll with beautiful back up vocals when he needs it. Her timber is quite ethereal as well.

Astarion | Electric Guitar

Astarion has massive rockstar energy. He did try to play with his teeth on more than one occasion but that breaks the strings. He has several guitars, guitar straps, dedicated stage outfits and hundreds of guitar picks (which he does not even use but hoards like a dragon).

Gale | Synthesizer

Gale is a piano player but why constrain himself to a regular piano when he can make it sound like space music. Or any other instrument really. Fender Rhodes with a distortion and reverb to the max? Yes, please. He tried the keytar and while he does like the funkiness of it, he prefers the horizontality of regular synthesizers. I also believe he’d compose a lot of the songs.

Now for the one who are not part of the band but do play an instrument:

Minthara | Band Manager

Sorry I do not see Minthara as a musician. She’d be an amazing band manager or music producer though. If I must attribute her an instrument I would say the harp as she canonically has a lute but I imagine the discipline it takes to learn the harp is quite in character and would be a funny contrast; the angelic sound it makes, opposed to… Well, Minthara.

Halsin | Bansuri

And he made it himself from bamboo or wood. He plays it during his session of guided meditation or when he is alone in the forest. Usually attracts dozens of critters and little animals and it makes him look like a Disney princess (Although he has never seen a Disney film himself.)

Jaheira | Steel Drum

She learned during her hippie phase in college back when she would travel to Puerto Rico and/or Jamaica twice a year. She still has her old steel drum and will take it out if you nag her long enough or if she is in a celebratory mood. She might play it at your LuAu themed birthday party if requested.

Minsc | Triangle

It is the only instrument that he can play. It looks relatively simplistic but it is actually quite tricky to play as it requires great timing and a little bit of technique. Minsc is a natural at both. He likes being part of an orchestra and finds the agitated man with a stick the funniest of all people.

Boo | Church Organ

I have no argument to justify this but the hilarious image of a miniature giant space hamster playing the phantom of the opera on a huge cathedral organ. 

Gortash | Acoustic Guitar (but not really)

Gortash will claim he plays guitar. He will claim it even faster if he is flirting (approximately 2 minutes into the conversation and/or maybe before even asking your name). He, however, does not. What he can do is play one song (wonderwall or alleluia take your pick) that he learned by heart back in highschool specifically to brag at parties and bag dates. In adulthood it works way less.

“Toji did you see that one!” You exclaim pointing at the jellyfish flowing freely in the tank,Swaying and swishing with each false tide the aquarium replicates.

“I saw it Angel-” he looks down at you,your gaze already fixated on the raven haired man

All of the jellyfishes were moving and bobbing behind the glass,The lights hitting the jellyfish to reveal all their secrets. Tiny swirls and dots of pattern engraved in their heads To the way their legs shift in and out of auburn to gold with ten light.

There’s so many of them-The little sea nettles.

Not a care in the world,Truth be honest you can’t even remember the last time you’ve gone to an aquarium. The time seems too long to even remember.

Something squeezes your hand,Dragging you out of your rambling.

“You alright kid?” He offers you his other hand like an anchor for stability.You nod and control search the deep cerulean tank walls.

What is it like for them?

You wonder…Is it thoughtless? Do they feel if we touch them? Are they all friends?

Staring up at the plaque just next to all of the jelly’s.And with each word you settle on one thought.

Being a Jelly would be sooo amazing.

“I’m okay Toji.” Your smile assured him,full of childish curiosity and he gave one back-Rougher but enough to move you to the next exhibit.

All sorts of sea creatures catch your eyes; wether it’s bright tropical fish or little guys with oddly placed eyes, even the coral is amazing to look at with its intricate structure and beautiful colors.

Most you could even say are adorable.

Even the basking tank for the sharks.

Staring into the water you point one out-

“That one looks like you!” You jest lightly elbowing him in the abdomen, He scoffs 

“Absolutely not kid” and he looks through the tank “why not that one?” He points at a horned shark-It swims away almost knowing his acknowledgment.

“Cause.” Your antics make him roll his eyes, his jaw slightly clenching 

“Cause???” He urges you on.

“The one I chose is a cute shark” You laugh and look back and forth between the shark and your agitated boyfriend

“And mine isn’t?” He argues studying the shark that runs away from his gaze.

“I’m just saying mine is better.” You shrug and smile at your accomplishment.

“What type of shark is it?” His question is 

uncharacteristically curious. And a whole bunch of things click; All of the time you two have spent watching documentaries on the ocean and Watching the fish move with the tides while the two of you don’t.

He’s never been to an aquarium before.

“I think it’s a bamboo shark.” You try to rack back memories of your childhood, moving past all or miniature phases that once grasped your entire mind.

You look up just in time to see his lips move around the words.He notices it flushes in embarrassment but doesn’t comment on it.

“I guess it’s kinda cute.” A light blush covers his cheeks and he squints his eyes at you.

“Cheeky thing you are,huh?” He pinches your left cheek in slight retaliation- giggling as he grips your waist dragging you close to him. Planting one kiss onto your forehead.

And you both continue to meander throughout the aquarium making fun of the little sea snakes in the sand and admiring the seals flipping around on the ice.The keepers joyously feeding and playing with the seals.

It’s different to see him so involved and engaged in something so simple like an aquarium.

It’s oddly adorable.

A screech tears you away from your thoughts,Toji’s too as he whips around to where the sound comes from.

It’s from a lady,looking around frantically as I overhear her ask “where’s my kid!?”

You walk towards her asking for details of the kid eagerly trying to help her.

“He’s short,black hair and eyes and is about 7” she calms herself to speak to you her hands shaking while she calls for him “that kids name”

And when you turn around,Toji is gone. 

You grumble a few choice words of anger before going off to search for the kid.

You search the open ocean areas for them shouting their name every once in awhile.He might be in the tide pool area! kids like that right? with your new idea in mind you turn back.

Only to see Toji with the little boy handing him off to his mom.

The sight stops your heart. He's beaming and crouched down to the kid giving him a high five saying something you can just barely hear “Your mom loves you, don’t scare her kiddo.” 

Giving parting words to the mom while she thanks him repeatedly.

Your heart can’t help but ache at the man approaching you looking relieved as he runs a hand through his hair mindlessly.

He shakes his head letting out a deep breath

“Your good with kids.” you smile dotingly at him

“Really?” Toji isn’t a man of many words,but the way he smiles cheekily only makes you fall harder.

“I’d say you are” and you watch the mom and son walk away,The boy giggling and holding his mothers hand. His hands wrap around your waist- squeezing it with possessiveness that makes you squeeze your thighs together.

It doesn’t go unnoticed by him.

He kisses the back of your hand and walks away with a small wink.

You go up to a touching tank, lightly skimming the backs of stingrays and starfishes.

A tap on your shoulder leads you back to Tojis watchful gaze.

“Hey baby” he smiles and offers his arm up to you offering to lead you out of the closing aquarium. The two of you being some of the final guests to leave,The sun's last rays already dipping into the horizon.

By the time you sit in the car you're fighting to stay awake,Your eyes are fighting to stay awake as the car starts up- so by the time he’s on the road back home your eyes flutter close.

Unknown to your sleeping figure he rummages through a bag in the passenger seat,Placing a soft fuzzy bamboo shark plushie into your limo arms.

And you unconsciously squeeze your little gift,He can swear his heart jumps out of his chest at the sight.

“Dumb shark-“ he scoffs looking at you sleep.

Offering you a light head pat.

“A cute one though.”

And you can’t see him smile.

AN: I had lots of fun writing this one,It’s fun to dip into his character and take him in a much different direction. Hope you enjoyed this! ✨

Had a cosy crafting session with mum and she marked out her more complex sashiko patterns on tissue paper before pinning it to the fabric. Have to admit I had my doubts as I was stitching, and it was trickier to get through the layers, but it was worth it for the big reveal.

Do wish I had used a grid originally with this - it was another mend of a mend. There are a few iffy patches where the original lines weren’t quite even, but other than that I’m really pleased with it. If the original proportions had been correct, it would have been a miniature version of the bamboo pattern above.

you knew walking into a architecture class in all pink with you’re dark brown complexion would cause a lot of staring but you didn’t care. as you put your bamboo earrings in, your playlist changed the song to The Key by Tems but you paused it till you got into your car and drove to school.

architecturestudent!armin who sat in the back struggling to keep his eyes open in class couldn’t help but notice you the girl in all pink walking into architecture class.

“Princess! I think you’re in the wrong class!” someone yells out to you. “This room 208. Architecture. Is it not?” You say looking at the teacher for confirmation. “Yes you are correct. Y/n right? The only open seat we have is in the back.” “Thanks.” you say smiling walking to your seat.

architecturestudent!armin who calls you because he didn’t understand some of the lesson and as he looks at the picture you sent of your notes. while his face is in the camera you see that he wrinkles his forehead and sticks his tongue out when he focuses. you think it’s a adorable habit but he has no idea at all.

architecturestudent!armin who takes you to a little cafe just to talk and get closer to eachother. you learn that he was the shy type when he was younger and still slightly is but learned how to stand up for himself with his friends help. you also learn that he loves minecraft and use to have one of those creeper jackets and a diamond sword.

“It’s not that funny.” He says with a straight face as you laugh your ass off “I-“ You say trying to catch your breath “im trynna to imagine you with the jacket on zipped up with the diamond sword IN HAND!” you say busting out in laughter. he can’t help but notice how pretty you look to him when your laughing.

architecturestudent!armin has the patience of a saint. like when you and him where challenged with making and building a modern miniature house structure with 2 tiers and the blueprint just didn’t work together it kept falling and while you got frustrated armin calmed you down.

“BRUH this just isn’t working. Why is the structure not structuring!” you say slamming your hand’s against the desk “y/n its okay.” he says rubbing your leg and his hand on your back “maybe we need more stability on the pillars.” he says getting more stabilizers and the building began to stand up. “armin! you were right! “ you say hugging him. you didn’t know it but armin was feeling more accomplished and comfortable than he ever did before.

“Welcome to my place y/n!” he says while ushering you in with his hand on the small of your back before closing the door. “Min…” you say looking at his beautiful apartment. “this place is amazing” you say with your jaw dropping “it’s nothing really!” he says anxiously with his hand up and scratching his neck “my parents didn’t want me to stay in a dorm. so they got me this place.” he says walking around “you want something to drink?” he says leaning in the fridge and putting out 2 of your fav drinks. “definitely!” you say sitting at the island “so what’s with this project?” you say taking a sip “it’s nothing really i’m just making a victorian style-“ you couldn’t barely comprehend the words coming out of his mouth and you kept looking at his lips. slowly but surely armin started to notice and he felt the same whenever you answered.

“Min?” you call out into the house from the room you were in. you smell the aroma of french toast and pancakes. like a spell you let your feet take you to the smell. as you walk into the kitchen you see armin over the stove putting his all into making breakfast. “morning y/n.” he says with a smile looking over his shoulder “minn you shouldn’t have!” you say walking over and hugging him from behind hands around his waist. all he can think is anything for my angel.

You have just finished your vacation in Sumeru that acting grandmaster Jean, told you to go on, it was a lot of fun staying in the land of Wisdom especially when you got to meet amazing people like Collei and Tighnari but their were some obstacles along the way but they were nothing you couldn’t take down, after all you have a vision but you’ve only had it for awhile and don’t have full control over it yet.

As your walking towards the Chasm that separates Sumeru’s and Liyue’s boarders you saw a treasure hoarder camp but there were way to many of them so you decided to avoid them but fate wasn’t on your side for the treasure hoarder’s spotted you “Hey, a new test subject.” One of the hoarder’s said “Oh boy, this could get ugly.” You said as you summoned your catalyst getting ready for battle.

The battle wasn’t easy, for your HP was going down badly and you forgot to make more hearty food while you stopped at Gandharva Ville then you were knocked out.

A few hours later:

You slowly woke up to see that your slung over the shoulder of a treasure hoarder.

You tried hitting his back to get him to let go but you felt that you’re tied up, you tried to shout for help but you found that they also gagged you “Hey the kids awake.” A treasurer hoarder said “Great.” Another said as the bandits walked the deserts of Sumeru “We can put the kid in this basket and pretend that we’re merchants.” The bandit holding you said “Yes boss.” His goons said.

You don’t know what is happening for your now inside a bamboo basket (it amazed you that you could even fit in it) although you found a small pip hole that allowed you to see a bit, when you peeked you saw the ocean, white sand and a few monster camps here and there.

You felt the bandits stopping then the lid of the basket was taken off “Alright let’s start this experiment.” The leader said picking you up from the basket “Or you can hand over the kid, face judgement and then come down to the fortress of Meropide for kidnapping and attempting illegal experimentation.” Said a deep voice “Or you can call for a dual to defend yourself.” Said another voice making everyone including you turn to see two men, one had black hair and the other had very long white hair with blue streaks in it, they both wore expensive looking outfits but they looked like they didn’t mind getting dirty “Oye it’s Wriothesley the Duke of the Fortress of Meropide and Neuvillette the chief of justice.” One of the bandits said making your eyes widen for you’ve heard of these people from past convicts from the fortress who visited Mondstadt to get away from the hustle and bustle of their home or those who won a dual to defend their honor, you couldn’t help but admire the men for they had powerful airs around them like grandmaster Varka, Diluc, Jean and Venti “You want the kid? come and get her.” The leader said holding you tightly making you yelp in pain through your gag.

A few moments later:

You were now in the arms of Wriothesley, after he and Neuvillette defeated the treasure hoarders who are now cuffed and taken by the Marechaussee Phantom, you were untied by this small fluffy creature that kinda reminded you of a deer on two legs with pink and white fur and short brown hair wearing a miniature version of the uniform, you couldn’t help but look at the small guards for you were so curious “What are they?” You asked yourself “They are Melusine, you’ve probably never seen one in Mondstadt.” The blue dressed gentleman said “No, we don’t have Melusine in Mondstadt. But we have Dvalin, the Anemo dragon.” You said making the two men chuckle “Let’s get some food in you.” The dark haired man said “Y/N!” You said “Pardon?” The white haired one asked “Y/N! That’s my name.” you said introducing yourself “Well meet Y/N, I’m Wriothesley.” The dark haired man said “And I’m Neuvillette.” The white haired man said.

You’re taken to the court of Fontaine where Wriothesley and Neuvillette took you to one of the restaurants where you saw a very pretty lady with blond hair that ended in curls wearing a black, yellow and white outfit with many bows and blue gems in it complete with a match hat on her head and a geo vision on her left arm “Ah Monsieur Neuvillette! Duke Wriothesley! And who is this little rose?” She asked lightly booping your nose making you laugh “My names Y/N, I’m from Mondstadt.” You said introducing yourself “Well meet Y/N, I am Navia, president of the spina di rosula.” The lady you now know as Navia said “ohhh, Navia! Neuvillette! Wriothesley! We didn’t expect to run into you guys, have you’ve seen some treasure hoarders with a kid that has an Anemo Mondstadt vision?” Said a familiar high voice “Honorary knight! Paimon! Acting Grandmaster Jean!” you said from Wriothesley’s arms “Y/N! Thank Barbetos you’re ok.” Jean said with relief in her voice “Ah, so Y/N is in the knights of Favonius!?” Wriothesley said in surprise “What brings the acting grandmaster of Mondstadt to Fontaine?” Neuvillette asked Jean “I got word from a Matra soldier patrolling near the Chasm, he said he saw some treasure hoarders walking with a child that had a Mondstadt Anemo vision, so he sent word to general Cyno on the matter then word got to the knights and so here we are.” Jean said “We should discuss this over tea.” Wriothesley said “That would be wonderful.” Jean said.

At an outdoors cafe (I don’t feel like looking up the name) you sat in between Jean and Wriothesley as the adults talked “So she’s one of the younger members of the knights of Favonius!? Interesting.” Neuvillette said in surprise as Jean showed him and Wriothesley your files that Traveler and Paimon suggested she brought with them for the future trial though a certain part of your file caught Wriothesley’s attention “I see she’s lost her parents.” Wriothesley said “Yes, she lives in the Favonius orphanage ran by Sister Grace.” Jean said “Paimon always thought Y/N lived in the knights of Favonius headquarters.” Paimon said eating a macaroon with Wriothesley having a thought in his head.

At the trial:

You, Jean and Wriothesley stand on the stage with Neuvillette sitting on his big chair.

To you he looked so cool, like Dvalin and Rex Lapis, as you looked up at the chief of justice he began asking questions “To my understanding, you were on your way home from vacationing in Sumeru?” He asked “Yes your honor.” You answered “And you ran into the treasure hoarders when you were in front of the Chasm!?” He asked again “Yes, then we had a fight but they beat me easily, I only just got my vision before going on my vacation.” You answered again making Jean come to your defense “It’s true sir, I am a witness to Y/N getting her vision and can confirm that she’s only had it for two weeks now.” She said “Alright, when they brought you into Fontaine that’s when they were about to be experiment on you?” Neuvillette asked “Yes, that’s when you, Mr Wriothesley and the Marechaussee Phantom came.” You said as the court whispered on the events that happened.

Long story short the treasure hoarders were sentenced to life in the fortress of Meropide and your vacation was extended to one more week with Jean and the knights she brought with her enjoying it with you.

It’s been 6 days since the trial and you found yourself in love with Fontaine and the experiences it has to offer and the many people you’ve meet but little did you know that a certain duke of a certain prison grew very fond of you and is speaking to Jean over tea “You want to adopt Y/N?” She asked “Yes, she’s a great kid and deserves a family.” He said “I’m sure Y/N would love that, the poor kid has been looking forward to getting adopted but she was never picked, You should come with us to Mondstadt when we leave tomorrow.” The acting Grandmaster said “I shall make arrangements for you Wriothesley. After all that child has wormed her way into my heart as well.” Neuvillette said walking over to their table.

It was the day you were really going home, you were going to miss Fontaine but you knew you had to go back to help the knights of Favonius with protecting Mondstadt.

After you finished packing you went out to find Jean, the traveler, Paimon and Wriothesley with their own bags “Oh Mr Wriothesley is coming with us?” You asked in surprise “Yes, Neuvillette and Acting Grandmaster Jean talked me into taking a vacation in the nation of freedom.” The Duke of Meropide said winking at Jean “We made arrangements for him.” Said a deep voice making all of you turned to see Neuvillette walking in with a girl that had bright blue hair with a nurse hat on her head and the same ears as the Melusine “Sigwinne you know what to do when I’m not at the fortress yes?” Wriothesley asked the girl making her nod “Yes, I’ve seen you a million times.” Sigwinne said “I hope to see you soon Mr Neuvillette.” You said giving the Chief justice a hug making him surprise but hug back “I hope so too.” He said giving a thumbs up to Jean and Wriothesley with the traveler and Paimon looking at each other confusedly.

The journey to Mondstadt was long and exhausting but the great part of having a vision is that you don’t get tired easily no matter how much you travel but it was fun seeing places and on the way Wriothesley got new inmates for the fortress.

Once back in Mondstadt you went back to the orphanage and was greeted by sister Grace “Y/N! Thank Barbetos you’re alright. Did those treasure hoarders do anything to you?” She asked “I’m alright Mama Grace.” You answered happily “This gentleman saved her.” Jean said walking over with the traveler, Paimon and Wriothesley who is looking around the city “Oh, thank you so much, may the Anemo archon protect you.” Grace said “It’s no problem, she’s a great kid.” Wriothesley said “Y/N, why don’t you go lay down! You look exhausted?” The nun said “I will, it’s been a long week.” You said walking to your room “Sister Grace we liked to discuss something with you.” Jean said “Do come in, I’ll get tea ready.” She said allowing the acting grandmaster and Duke to enter the orphanage “We’ll go to the inn, Paimon’s pooped from traveling so much.” The fairy said dramatically “You barely walked.” The traveler said with a deadpanned look on their face.

Inside the Orphanage, Jean and Wriothesley put operation adopt Y/N into motion “Oh lord Barbeto’s did I hear that right?” Grace asked “Yes, I wish to adopt Y/N.” Wriothesley said “Oh my, she’ll be happy to hear this.” The nun said walking up to your room “Y/N, child come down.” She said knocking on your door.

After having a nap you decided read one of the books you brought from Fontaine and just as you were getting to the good part you heard sister Grace’s voice telling you to come down, you marked the spot of your book and went down to see Jean and Wriothesley sitting at the table “Y/N, this gentleman wishes to adopt you.” She said making your eyes sparkle with hope “Really?” You asked looking up at the Duke of Meropide who smiled down at you “Yes.” He said making you tear up in happiness and hug him “Thank you.” You said happily making him smile and ruffle your hair “Of course little pup.” Wriothesley said.

That night Wriothesley signed the adoption papers making you his official daughter.

The next day you took your new father around the city, both of you fought monsters with your visions and he showed you his fighting techniques “I didn’t know you can do that with a catalyst.” You said in amazement “I’ll teach you when we get home to Fontaine.” He said.

It was two days before you had to leave for Fontaine, you just finished packing the last of your things and you went with Diona and Klee to Cider lake for one more game of fish blasting “I’m going to miss you when you leave for Fontaine, but Klee is happy that Y/N has a new daddy.” The elf said “Yeah, things won’t be the same without you Y/N.” Diona said “Don’t worry guys, I’ll write to you two and send pictures! Maybe Daddy will let me come for Windbloom.” You said seeing a school of fish swimming in the lake while Klee took out a jumpty dumpty until a knight came over “You three are needed at Favonius H.Q, Acting Grandmaster Jean is requesting for you.” He said hiding a grin.

As the knight is leading you, Klee and Diona to Jean’s office you wondered if you did something you weren’t supposed to do “Did I forget a commission?” You asked yourself but your question is answered when the knight opens the door, you and the older two girls walked in and “SURPRISE!!!” Was shouted making you jump, looking up you saw Jean, Amber, Kaeya, Lisa, Noelle, Mika, Barbara, Diluc, Eula, Bennette, Mona, Fischl, Oz, Rosaria, Razor, Albedo, Sucrose, the traveler, Paimon and Wriothesley all standing in Jean’s office with a cake and lots of presents “Y/N! Since tomorrow is your last day here in Mondstadt, Klee planed this get together.” Jean said “Yes, we even swore no alcohol.” Kaeya said “Diona made us promise that.” Diluc said.

The night was great, you ate food from the good hunter, played games, ate cake that had a picture of Windrise on it with the words “Goodbye Y/N.” In F/C cursive gel frosting and then you opened presents.

On the day before you had to leave for Fontaine you, the traveler and Paimon took your new father to Windrise, to Cider lake (he may or may not have gotten water from the lake for Neuvillette), to the dawn winery and Wolvendom.

The next day:

The day when you will be moving to Fontaine has arrived, You had your bags packed, said your last goodbyes to everyone you knew and then you and Wriothesley left for your new home bye walking to the stone gate so you can have one more look of Mondstadt then teleported to Fontaine using the teleportation waypoint, when you arrived back to the court of Fontaine you and Wriothesley went to the Palais Mermonia where you saw Neuvillette sitting at his desk “I see the proceedings have been arranged.” He said looking up with a smile on his face glad to see that Wriothesley is back with you “The adoption proceedings went well.” Your new father said picking you up from the ground “I got you some water, fresh from Cider lake.” Wriothesley said taking out a bottle labeled with a blue ribbon tied into a bow around it “I have to take Y/N back to the fortress, we have some unpacking to do.” Wriothesley said walking out with you in his arms and your backpack slung on his shoulder “Bye uncle Neuvillette.” You said from Wriothesley arms making the chief of justice blush and your father to chuckle “See you soon Neuvillette.” Wriothesley said closing the door and walking out of the Palais Mermonia with the staff looking up at you and the Duke of the fortress of Meropide in surprise with some whispering, the moment your out of the building your both meet with a familiar girl you remembered meeting at the Genius Invocation TCG tournament “Duke Wriothesley! Is it true that you adopted a girl from Mondstadt?” The girl asked “Charlotte!” You said excited to see the reporter again “Oh, it’s Y/N! I never thought I’d get to see you again.” The pink haired girl said excitedly “I see you two already know each other.” Wriothesley said in surprise until you saw Navia with a purple haired lady “Oh, looks like those whispers are true.” Navia said walking up to you and your new father with the purple haired lady “Ah, Navia! Clorinde!” Wriothesley greeted “So the headline is true? You and Mousier Neuvillette saved a child with a Mondstadt Anemo vision and then you adopted her.” The purple haired lady you know as Clorinde said “And it looks like I may have a new client.” Said a new voice, two young woman and two young men came up, one of the woman had brown hair in a complicated side ponytail and she had on clothes that are from Inazuma, the other had silver hair with in a ponytail held in place by a ribbon tied into a big bow with a small turquoise streak in her bangs but what surprised you the most where her cat ears and tail along with the star on her cheek, one of the young men had silver hair like the cat girl but shorter with a light red streak and side braids like Albedo, he had a teardrop mark on his cheek and wore a top hat, the other had platinum blond hair in a bob and a barrette on his head.

You looked at the cat eared girl with curiosity “Daddy, she has ears and a tail like Diona and Miss Kirara!” You said looking at the silver haired girl “I see you’ve meet my good friend, but let’s get you in some new clothes.” The brown haired woman said “Alright, the day is still young.” Wriothesley said “Oh let’s see what outfits Chiori has for children.” Navia said.

At Chioriya boutique you found the outfits very beautiful but one outfit caught your eyes for it reminded you of your new father’s outfit but it was in Anemo colors and you immediately fell in love with it “Good choice Y/N.” Chiori said allowing you to try it on, once the outfit is on you all saw that it fits you perfectly “It’s missing something… I know!” You said walking over to your backpack and pulled out the scarf like cloak (I don’t know what it’s called) that Kaeya gifted you for your fair well party along with the cross pendant Barbara gave you and the Dandelion hair ornament that Jean and Lisa gave you “I see my new client is from Mondstadt, excellent touch of home.” Chiori said.

After getting your new outfit the new people introduced themselves as Lyney, Lynette, Freminet and Chiori “Hey Y/N, what’s it like in Mondstadt?” Lynette asked making smile and tell her about your birth home “This Albedo sounds like an interesting person and Sucrose sounds like an interesting to.” Freminet said “This Klee kid sounds fun, She can make bombs.” Navia said making Wriothesley pale for her learned from Jean that you, Klee and Diona would go fish blasting, something he was so going to talk to you about when you get to the fortress.

After a long day of walking around the court of Fontaine: you and Wriothesley finally went to the Fortress of Meropide where everyone is surprised to see you and multiple whispers were heard “Welcome back your Grace.” The receptionist said “Thank you.” Your new father “Everyone is to be outside of my office in 10 minutes.” Wriothesley said getting on the prison aqua bus.

After walking through more twist and turns you saw that you’re now in front of big doors with a wolf above it with a familiar blue dressed man “Daddy, I see uncle Neuvy.” You said excited making Wriothesley chuckle ‘I can’t wait to see the look on that Dragon’s face.’ He thought to himself as you two are now standing in front of the chief of justice then a crowd started to form with your new father raising you up Simba style “Everyone! This is Y/N, she is my new daughter and I expect you to behave when around her.” Wriothesley said making everyone cheer and congratulations are thrown to your father then some guards came up “We well be happy to be the young lady’s bodyguards.” One of the guards said making your father smile “Thank you.” He said then you saw a girl about your age with blue hair in low pig tails that reminded you of Klee’s and Melusine ears came up to you, Wriothesley and Neuvillette “Hello Y/N, I’m Sigwinne! The head nurse.” She said placing a hand on her heart making you smile “Hi Sigwinne, I hope we get along.” You said yawning dual to how tired you are “Let’s get you to bed little pup, tomorrow we’ll go shopping for more clothes for you, maybe show you around Fontaine some more.” Your new father said taking you into his office with Neuvillette following in “I will be joining you, I got my paper work finished and the Melusine won’t stop bugging me to take a day off.” The chief of justice said as your father placed you down so you could get ready for bed “That would be lovely Uncle Neuvi.” Wriothesley said making Neuvillette sputter.

After bathing, changing into your pastel turquoise night gown that Noelle made you and taking your hair out of its high ponytail while brushing it you then walked out of the bathroom to see your new father and uncle talking “Let’s put you to bed.” Wriothesley said scooping you up “Good night uncle Neuvi.” You said making Neuvillette smile and kiss your head “Goodnight, dandelion seed.” He said then your father took you to what you saw is his room “I’ll have to see if that spare room can be made into a bedroom for you.” He said gently laying you down and kissing your head “Goodnight little pup.” Wriothesley said “Good night Daddy.” You said making him smile and close the door leaving it ajar and for the rest of the night your new father and uncle spent the night drinking tea and water while talking about the long exhausting week.

Household Festivals in Shinto

Shinto festivals are usually celebrated at shrines. For those who do not live near a shrine, here is my adapted festival calendar. The dates for these festivals may vary due to astronomical or calendrical reasons.

New Year's Day (Oshogatsu):

On New Year's Day, eat and make lucky foods known as Osechi. Some recipes are listed here. Many Japanese people go to a shrine or temple for the first time in the new year, a practice called hatsumode. Instead of this, worshipers abroad could try offering sake at the kamidana.

Setsubun

Setsubun marks the beginning of spring. This is celebrated on either February 3 or 4. The date for Setsubun moves one day every 20 years. On this day, children throw roasted soybeans out the door or at an adult wearing an oni mask and chant "(鬼は外! 福は内!" (Oni go outside, luck come inside!). You can also eat roasted soybeans equivalent in number to your age.

Hinamatsuri

Hinamatsuri is held on March 3 at home by families who often are gifted hina dolls. These are carefully laid out, with votive miniature mochi in front of them. Special lanterns are laid out on both sides. Sometimes there are many dolls to play music and entertain the main couple. The purpose of this holiday is to pray for a good marriage for your daughter. Of course, this is quite heteronormative, but I wanted to include this just in case.

Haru Higan

Haru Higan is usually celebrated around March 20 for seven days. On this day, those with Japanese ancestry can worship their ancestors. Everyone can appreciate the coming warmth of spring as well.

Tanabata

Tanabata is usually celebrated on July 7, though some celebrate it on August 7. This commemorates the day that two literally star-crossed lovers, an oxherd and a weaver, can meet by crossing the Milky Way. If it rains, it is said that the weather prevents them from meeting until the next year. If it is clear, they are able to be reunited. You can write wishes on pieces of paper and hang them on bamboo stalks.

Obon

Obon is a major summer holiday held in honor of ancestors on July 15 or August 15 depending on the family. This one is often more Buddhist-flavored. You can make a small fire (real or symbolic -- and please be mindful of fire safety) as a landmark for your ancestors to find your home. Traditionally, specific altars just for the ancestors who return during Obon are constructed. A common practice is to construct horses and cows out of cucumbers and eggplants, respectively. The method for this is simple -- simply stick toothpicks in for their legs! It is said that this is to make ancestors come faster and leave slower. Bon Odori (Bon Dances) are held where slow traditional songs are played, and locals dance in a circle around a high platform with a drummer on it. This is a time of much fun and games. Fires are also lit at the ancestors' departure.

Tsukimi

Tsukimi is the moon-watching festival held on the eighth month of the lunar calendar on the 15th day. Traditions for this festival include making tsukimi dango (recipe here) and offering them on a sanbo tray by a window. You can also offer seasonal fruits and vegetables, and sprigs of susuki, or pampas grass.

Aki Higan

Aki Higan is the fall festival on September 22 or 23 marking the beginning of fall and cooler seasons in Japan. This is another day for worshiping one's ancestors.

Preparing for the New Year

At the end of the year, get mochi, shimekazari and any other items you need in preparation for the New Year. You may also wish to clean your home at this time.

I made the bamboo from toothpicks and greenstuff, and I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. I based Bufo's colour scheme on the Eastern Japanese Common Toad (Bufo formosus).

#Miniature Monday

Bayad : the story of a trip to the Philippines to discover why there is no recorded history of papermaking in that country.

This is part of a series focusing on a small fraction of the lovely artists books by Peter and Donna Thomas!

As is the case with many traditional crafts, it can be hard to find written information about the background of papermaking in some countries. This is true in the Philippines, compounded by the fact that "Spanish colonists destroyed many of the country's famous bamboo papyrus scrolls that documented some of the earliest written accounts of Filipino history. And, as one of the Philippines' most notable hand papermakers Nida Dumsang states in The History of Hand Papermaking in the Philippines, "...historians have found it difficult to piece together facts because there are only the scantiest written records of that era."" --review in Hand Papermaking, Winter 2006. Peter and Donna Thomas's book, The history of paper making in the Philippines sought to fill some of those gaps.

This mini tells the story of that larger book, exploring the background, research and writing which started with the visit of Nida Dumsang for a workshop.

Peter and Donna Thomas are "book artists from Santa Cruz, CA. They work both collaboratively and individually; letterpress printing, hand-lettering and illustrating texts, making paper, and hand binding both fine press and artists’ books." They have made over 100 limited edition books, often with Peter making the paper, and Donna doing the illustrations.
