Day 27: Favourite summer-themed photos of royals at Balmoral Castle

This is a series of footage clips containing several members of the British Royal Family including Queen Victoria, Prince Arthur of Connaught and his children, Princess Helena Duchess of Albany and her children, and also Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna. This is sole of the first footage taken of most of these royals (except the Russian couple whose 1894 coronation was filmed) and is a perfect example of how the BRF vacationed at Balmoral (the location of the footage).

I’ve been a bit quiet here because I’m on holiday in Scotland! We visit once a year, and this time we managed to walk Loch Muick, where Queen Victoria’s lodge, Glas-allt-Shiel, is situated, and where she would retreat to during her lifelong mourning for her beloved Prince Albert, and where subsequent members of the Royal Family took time out to rest and relax.

King George VI purchased Glas-allt-Shiel in 1950 and helped incorporate it into the Balmoral Estate, allowing for it to remain protected ☺️

I’ve shared some photos I took of my ‘pilgrimage’ with closeups of the commemorative granite lintels. Also the view from the lodge across Loch Muick, and a screengrab of a very dapper Bertie in roughly the same place (the tide was high in my image).
