Been working on this since September of last year- Crayzar in his captain uniform from Ballmastrz: Rubicon!
The hat is a little lopsided but I'm not fooling with it anymore. XP He stands at about 10 inches tall, minus the hat.
I want to share progress pics for this at some point, and also get more pics with him and other dolls. For now enjoy Captain Crayzar in all his glory. ✨
Crayzar is looking good!!! H e looks so cute ! Just like Goldie ! I love the art style change for him . They made him a little bit like i do my drawings, bigger angrier eyes and with a big smile that doesn’t alwyas have the gums showing out. It is just an animated Goldust with red eyes haha I love it.
rewatching ballmastrz 9009 and im realizing why i like this show so much. it does that thing where it presents this sick, disturbing, fucked up world and yet it sprinkles it in with so many moments of genuine tenderness and kindness. like you can tell the people of this world, as weird and crazy as they are, they are not mean, they are not evil.
this world clearly seems to care about the power of being nice, which comes off specially in the way everyone seems so dissapointed in gaz for being such a mess.
this comes off more clearly than ever through crayzar, the leader of this world, whom at first you think is going to be the warden 2.0, some sinister distortion of willy wonka. but then it turns out he is actually a benevolent god and seemingly and effective leader, albeit extremely excentric, still with clear wisdom.
some speculative stuff about Crayzar & Tyetaynus as kiddos. I'm not sure what the Saytar lifespan is like, or whether they even HAVE kids, but there was a kid one in concept art so there's my excuse. :P
I headcanon that Tyetaynus was very weak in terms of magical power compared to other Saytar, and so he focused more on physical strength with the aid of technology and military power. Because of this and his smaller size, I also headcanon that Crayzar was tasked with looking after his brother, but would often even abandon that duty to run off and do his own thing- leaving Tyetaynus to run after him and be the responsible one, all while Crayzar still gets all the credit.
I often think about the idea that Tyetaynus and Crayzar were actually "close" before Crayzar left, and I wonder what that would have looked like if we got to see their backstory, so I wanted to explore that a bit. :P
More on Crayzar's past self + how he could’ve been totally different from his present self.
Although lately I think parts of him could've been the same, like that half-serious half-wacky personality where he just does what he thinks is cool / to see what'll happen.
I just really love the image of a proto-Crayzar wandering the desert wasteland and scavenging for scrap death orbs...
There was SO much to love about this special... (starting with the glorious logo font!).
The supporting role teams of yesteryear (the Choo-Choo Chums, Boom Boom Boys, Misfit Murder Squad, etc.) in all their glory in the new-fandangle sleek anime art style? Ace finally getting to be the anime child prototype he always was in his heart? Baby Ball, of all people (er...of all balls) delivering a pep talk to an uncharacteristically remorseful Crayzar? Crayzar’s unifying ending speech to his human “children”? The rainbow spectrum of elegant, evil Saytars? The sick opening theme tune that Ballmastrz has always been nothing but deserving of? *swaying with a glowstick in the air* Gooooold Diamond, Crayzar’s magic is our guide... 😩
Leto quoting Grateful Dead? The entire adventure itself ending on Leto spitting some mean verse appropriate for the occasion?! (That voiceover, though. This man needs a deal with Audible.)
This was everything. Felt so good to see the old crew again. Some of my favorite shots:
