imagine you have a sport that you have done for most of your life, something you love, that makes you feel good in body and soul, except every time you turn up to a game or match, you're wearing pyjamas while everyone else is in uniform.

that's what it's like being a plus size dancer.

90% of dancewear brands don't offer plus sizes. the ones that do, often only go up to XXL. I haven't seen a SINGLE PHOTO of an actual plus size person modelling a leotard or costume.

I've spent too much time embarrassed to go on stage, because my costume doesn't match everyone else's. I hate seeing pictures of me in class, because I'm stuck wearing leggings and tshirts, or a leotard that doesn't fit. I want to feel like I belong as a dancer.

Actually i highly associate ballet with pandora (prolly cuz she was a lil fucked up ballerina in one fic and it lives rent free in my head) but i fully respect your ballet trauma x,d♡

purely aesthetically, i see it. i can imagine her looking the part so well. but i characterize her as way too, idk, free spirited? she’s that one girl in class who’s got raw talent, prima ballerina material yaknow, but she feels constrained by it. i can see her going into something more contemporary and experimental. travels europe with a small company, putting on shows at local theaters, all very ‘pushing the boundaries’ and such.
