I’ve been thinking about them dancing soo much they rotate in my brain like rotisserie chicken. I had a rabbithole where I was thinking what dance style they’d dance and salsa, rumba and merengue were on my list but the top one I decided was balboa.

keeping my notes down for why i chose Dizzy’s (Swinger! Moon’s) dance style

(some of this may be inaccurate but im trying my best)

If you don’t know, Balboa is a closed dance. it’s a dance that is mostly shared between the two partners. it’s not as flashy and “out there” as other styles of swing tend to be since it was made to adapt to crowded floors where there were too many people to be able to jump around and such. (not to say there aren’t more energetic forms of balboa like bal-swing, for example.) it’s a bit of an “introvert’s dance” because it mainly focuses on just you or you and your partner’s footwork. it feels more intimate between dance partners because most of the moves are shared between themselves, and not the audience.

Dizzy is not confident in themselves. whether that’s the result of light’s failures or something that’s been built into their personality from the start, they just aren’t comfortable being in the spotlight. they can find confidence in their abilities when paired with Sunny, which helps with the lessons/live events since it has a shoulder to lean on, but it still has a hard time dancing around other people.

Dizzy dances Balboa because there is not much to be seen. it’s ‘quiet’, it can be done solo, and it can be ignored with ease. it allows him to pay attention to his own moves, rather than who’s watching him.

and when he does Balboa with Sun, he isn’t overwhelmed with over-the-top moves and flips. he can just enjoy being with sol. it’s a style they can fall back onto to help ground themselves when the staring becomes too much.

being able to dance something so personal and intimate with Sun helps build their relationship even more and gives Moon a chance to grow his confidence with/without Kicker.

i dunno if i worded everything right but whatever!!!!!

one more thing: i think Kicker and Dizzy would do bal-swing too since it’s a good mix of their styles instead of them doing the dances separately
