Spring 2021 Anime Season
Tumblr media
Mars Red is one of two series this season set in one of my favorite periods, the Meiji era. It’s a vampire series that deals a lot with the politics of war as the Japanese military is attempting to establish a vampire unit, supposedly to compete with the British vampire unit (because of course that’s a thing). It focuses on a human military officer named Maeda who is charged with recruiting and managing vampires. Maeda is the type of character I really enjoy. Handsome, a little older than most anime protagonists, chain-smoking, overly serious, and voiced by Junichi Suwabe (who has to have the sexiest voice in all of anime). The series has a classic, romantic feel to it. Its take on vampires is somewhat traditional (they evaporate in the sun, drink blood, sleep in coffins, have super strength and speed, etc.). If it brings anything new to the table, it’s the concept of vampires having different ranks, from S-class down, and how lower ranks naturally fear higher ranks. Still yet, the classic vibe works in the show’s favor. Combined with the historical setting, it gives the show a certain charm. The art is lovely, from the backgrounds to the character designs, and the music is a high point. It easily has the best ending theme of the season.
Tumblr media
Fumetsu no Anata e (To Your Eternity) is a unique series. I’ve seen a lot of people comparing it to Mushishi, but with an overarching plot, and that assessment is pretty accurate. The show follows an entity that comes to be known as Fushi. It begins as an orb, and as it makes contact with other objects and creatures, it learns from them and can possibly take their forms. Among the forms it most often takes are a white wolf and a young man. Originally, it’s a somewhat empty shell, incapable of communicating, but as it meets different creatures and learns, it develops a personality and begins to speak. The series is, overall, about Fushi’s journey through this world and all the experiences it gains, both wonderful and tragic. There’s a subtle beauty to the series, with an early focus on nature, but it also has scenes of trauma and violence. The animation is fluid and the facial expressions are amazing. There’s an overall natural feel to it that, like others have pointed out, reminds me of Mushishi (though it’s definitely faster paced than Mushishi). The show also likes to make you cry, so keep that in mind.

Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood is the other series set in the Meiji era this season, albeit an alternate version of it that has a strange form of technology. To be honest, I’m a little fuzzy on some of the details, but it seems to be about a group called the Nue who work for the government to fight against a growing rebellion. The main character is Sawa, a member of Nue who has some sort of special powers involving her blood, which allow her to transform and battle monsters, or whatever else stands in her way. Her goal is to get revenge for the death of her entire clan (implied to be wiped out because of their power). Sawa is a decent heroine, a woman who craves vengeance and is determined to get it through any means, but is, at her core, a compassionate person who would rather live in peace. It’s this internal conflict that makes Sawa compelling (even if it’s not entirely original). The other characters are interesting, particularly Tsuki, whom I won’t talk much about because it would involve spoilers. The plot and details can get a little convoluted, but the action and animation are solid. When Sawa transforms, the art style changes, and it’s a really cool visual effect. The music is also nice.

Shaman King received a remake this season. I was a huge fan of the original, and so far I’m enjoying the remake, but to be honest, I’m having trouble seeing the point. The art is almost the same (just a lot shinier), the voice actors are the same, the plot is the same. Maybe it’s just that it’s been so long since I saw the original, I’m unable to remember the details and so I can’t tell what’s different. But to me it feels like I’m just rewatching the show. Which is fine, because I loved it to begin with. Maybe it gets different later on. Maybe it more closely follows the manga. I’ll keep watching to find out. For anyone new to the series, it looks like the remake is a solid place to start if you want to get into it. I won’t go into plot details for a story this old, so I’ll just say it’s a top tier shounen fighting series with a unique art style and some very memorable characters. If you like that sort of thing, and missed the original (or you just want a refresher), definitely check it out!

Godzilla Singular Point is a true delight. I’m a huge Godzilla (and kaiju in general) fan. I’ve watched every single Godzilla movie, as well as all the related movies (the Mothra films, Rodan, etc.), but I never watched the previous Godzilla anime that was on Netflix a few years ago. It just didn’t sound like something I’d like. Singular Point, however, is right up my alley. Set mainly in a small seaside town that’s suddenly attacked by bird-like monsters known as Rodans, we have two geeky protagonists using their intelligence to figure out what’s going on while more and more monsters appear. Mei and Yun are excellent heroes. They rely on their wits rather than physical strength, which is a refreshing approach. It’s also interesting that they have little to no face-to-face interaction. Instead, they chat with each other via text as they work separately. They often challenge each other with science questions. It’s adorable. The show’s overall feel is fairly upbeat and energetic. The colorful art and peppy character designs by Kazue Kato (who did Blue Exorcist) help with this feel. It should be noted that Godzilla himself doesn’t fully appear until halfway through the series. It says a lot about the quality of the show that I don’t actually mind that at all. Some of the science stuff does go over my head, but the general plot is easy enough to follow and the action is very well done. It also has fantastic music, with my favorite opening theme of the season. Even if Godzilla isn’t your thing, consider giving this series a shot if you like nerdy science types as heroes.

Burning Kabaddi is a sports anime about an unsual sport. I’d never heard of it before now, and if people in the comments were not talking about the very real sport, I would have assumed it was made up for the anime. The show is aware that the sport is obscure, so it takes great pains to explain the rules and details so that we can all follow the action. The story centers on Yoigoshi, a soccer prodigy who decides to drop all sports once he gets to high school due to all the drama and angst that surrounded him (mostly due to his teammates being jealous of his talent), and pursue a career as a streamer. All the various sports clubs at the school want to recruit him (especially the soccer club, of course) because they’ve heard of his skill and he has an athletic build. He rejects them all, but the Kabaddi club is strangely relentless. He ends up being manipulated into joining (the vice captain of the team straight up blackmails him by threatening to show his online streaming account to the whole school). Despite this rocky beginning, Yoigoshi actually starts to enjoy playing Kabaddi, and more importantly, begins to bond with his new teammates. It’s pretty fun stuff that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The art is serviceable for a sports anime and the music is fine. The series isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s a fun way to spend twenty minutes every week. Worth a watch if you have a weakness for hot blooded sports anime.

The World Ends With You finally got its anime adaptation and I was so excited. The game is one of my all-time favorites. So far the anime is pretty good. The art is a near perfect replication of the bold, thick-lined art of the game. The battles are exciting and cool. Best of all, the anime often uses music from the game. This is important because the game has one of the best soundtracks, ever. Every time I recognize a song from the game, I almost squeal. If I had a complaint, it’s that the pacing feels a little off at times. It feels like the anime is rushing through the story, but that’s understandable. In the game, it took longer for everything to happen because you were walking from place to place, fighting battles along the way, stopping to scan NPC’s, shopping at stores, spending time in menus, etc. The anime has to cut most of that out, so naturally things are going to move faster. The result is that you don’t get to spend as much time with these characters, and so you feel less attached to them. Anyone watching the anime who didn’t play the game might feel like the emotional beats are lacking. I feel like this anime is definitely meant to be enjoyed by fans of the game, rather than newcomers to the story. But if you are a fan of the game? You should be watching this every week. It’s an excellent refresher on the story, just in time for the second game to come out this summer. Super high on my watch list.

Boku no Hero Academia has a new season. To be honest I don’t remember what number we’re on. This season, so far, focuses on a tournament-style competition between the two main hero classes. I would much prefer the plot to move on to something more exciting involving the villains, but I suppose they have to throw arcs like this in every so often just to remind everyone of which characters have which quirks. The plus point is that instead of being an individual competition, it’s team-based. What this ultimately means is that characters that are viewed as weaker or having more obscure quirks actually get a chance to shine. These are characters who definitely aren’t going to win one-on-one battles. In an individual tournament, it’s pretty much a given that characters like Deku, Bakugou, and Todoroki are going to win most of the matches. But in a team, everyone has to work together. The end result is that the lady characters, all of whom have fairly weak or situational quirks, finally FINALLY get to actually do stuff! Even better, in several of the match-ups, the girls have taken the lead in planning and strategizing. It’s been pretty nice to watch. The girls from the other class have been very proactive as well. I really wish the girls could do more in “real” battles with villains, since it’s clear that they can step up when they need to. Who knows? Maybe this is a sign of good things to come.

86 is a new mecha/sci-fi anime based on a series of light novels. The setup is fairly cool: In a country where everyone has silver hair and eyes, the people live in what looks like a utopia. There is a war going on outside their protected land but all combat is performed by automated robots, so there are no human casualties... or so the government would have the people believe. In reality, there is a district that exists on the outskirts of the country called 86, where people who don’t have silver hair and eyes are sent to pilot the robots and fight to protect the country that shunned them. Most of the pilots are children or teenagers. The mortality rate is high. Only a few people in the government know of their existence, mostly military types that include “handlers”. These handlers each take on an 86 unit and communicate with them through a system called “para-raid”. Using this, they monitor the battlefield from their safe positions and issue commands. Naturally, most handlers view their units as nothing more than tools in the war, and most 86-ers view their handlers as privileged snobs who know nothing of actual battle. The real plot kicks in when Lena, a young Major, becomes the new handler for a particular 86 unit. Lena is sympathetic to the people of 86, but it’s going to be hard getting her notoriously rough unit to accept her. The plot is a bit complicated and the show deals with some weighty themes (racism, privilege, war, child soldiers, death). Lena is a likable enough heroine and the members of 86 are all interesting and fairly well written. The music is fine. The art... well, it’s pretty to look at, but it feels a bit generic to me. A bit too shiny. The mecha designs are great, but I’m not crazy about the character designs, which feel like they could be from any other modern anime. I also find it sad but hilarious at the same time that the women’s military uniforms are clearly designed for fanservice (they include mini skirts, thigh-highs with garters, and a short jacket that opens up just above the chest to show the tight shirt underneath) while the men’s uniforms are just totally normal military wear. To be honest it’s just too stupid to actually be offensive, so it comes across as comical. Thankfully, the interesting setup and plot carry the show, making it good enough to overlook the generic visuals.

Moriarty the Patriot has a new season... maybe? I think it’s technically still season one, but with a split cour. Regardless, it feels like a new season so I’m treating it as such. The series focuses on famous Sherlock antagonist Moriarty, here represented as a trio of handsome brothers (though one of them is clearly the protagonist and the leader of the group) who work as “crime consultants” and basically help the lower classes wage class warfare against the nobility. This season shifts the focus away from the individual crimes Moriarty concocts and instead focuses on larger-scale conflicts that involve government conspiracies, corrupt cops, etc. We’re also treated to a lady James Bond (finally!), fixing one of the very few complaints I had about the first cour (that it lacked strong lady characters). The show remains very compelling, with beautiful art and excellent new opening and ending themes.
Best of Season:
Best New Show: Godzilla Singular Point
Best Opening Theme: Godzilla Singular Point
Best Ending Theme: Mars Red
Best New Male Character: Maeda (Mars Red)
Best New Female Character: Sawa (Joran)

A cool gust of wind pulled Bakugou out of his restful sleep. At first, he stayed in place with his eyes closed, feeling his hair tickle his skin and the soft scent of clean laundry fill his senses. He could still feel the weight of his blankets around him and the pillow that was latched tightly in his grip, smothered by his embrace with all four limbs. Realizing this, he noticed that his head wasn’t resting on a pillow, and he assumed he must have dragged it down when his lover left the bed earlier that morning. Typically, she was the one in his grip or vice versa. But today, she had gotten up much earlier than him, leaving him to rest after arriving home late from hero work. Four in the morning was more than just a little late, and he had crashed the instant he fell into bed.
On a normal morning, Bakugou would have been up earlier than his lover, to do his normal routine of working out, showering and cooking breakfast. The fact that she was up already told him that it was probably nearing eleven o’clock in the morning, and though he never really slept in this late, he did have to admit that it felt good. No rushing and no worrying, exactly how he wanted to enjoy his days off. Though, as another breeze brushed against his skin, he grew curious and couldn’t resist opening his eyes to see what his lover was up to.
Opening one eye to peek out over the blankets, he first noticed the source of the wind, which was coming through the open sliding glass doors that led out to their balcony. Outside, his lover was working on pulling the dry laundry down form the lines, folding them and placing them into a basket. As he watched her, he worried for a moment every time she had to stand up on her tiptoes to reach the clothespins, worried that she may take a tumble off the small step stool she already stood on. Although she was physically fit and incredibly adapt at martial arts, she had a tendency to be a bit clumsy, so her standing so close to the balcony railing on that little stool made him quite nervous. Having her take a tumble from the thirty-second floor of their apartment building wouldn’t exactly be a great start to his morning.
Since her back was to him, she didn’t see that he had woken up, giving him a chance to watch her. Long white hair up in a sloppy bun, he had a perfect view of her strong back and shoulders, watching the way she moved in that tight tank top she liked to do chores in. Her ass looked damn perfect, too, in her typical leggings that were so tight to her body she may as well be naked. These were clothes he had seen her in a million times, but that didn’t really matter. Her small, fit body had the perfect amount of curves, right where he loved to grab and squeeze. That woman was pure perfection to him, and no matter how strongly he felt, he found that he was never able to truly express his adoration for her. Still, she knew, able to see right through his jumbled words and flustered actions like he was made of glass.
Bakugou had always been the worst at expressing himself verbally, which was something he could admit. Thankfully, the two of them didn’t need words. The bond that had grown between them over a lifetime was something he couldn’t quite explain or understand, though it wasn’t like that mattered at all. It was just how they were, and if he were honest, he was glad she didn’t rely on his constant validation or expressions of love to be happy with him. Of course, he told her daily and did random things here and there to express his adoration with actions and gifts. Either way, they were happy, and that is all that mattered.
Feeling a knot beginning to grow in his chest from watching her, Bakugou sat up, taking a moment to give a hefty stretch. After giving his hair a quick ruffle and rolling his shoulders to pop to stiff joints, he stood, making his way towards the balcony door. At first, he just leaned on the doorway, arms crossed as he watched her struggle to reach a particularly high clothespin on the end of the string near the wall. Grunting in frustration, she had one leg up, the tips of her fingers barely reaching the bottom of the clip. “Damn you clip! I’m gonna have to teach Katsuki a lesson for clipping this so high!”
“What type of lesson would you teach me, Utsuro?”
At the sound of his voice, Koge squealed, jumping in fright and losing her footing. As she tumbled backwards, Bakugou was quick to catch her, helping her to balance back on the stood once she stopped flailing. “K-Katsuki! You scare the crap out of me.” Bakugou chuckled, moving his hands to her hips as she turned around to face him. Only about a foot taller than normal on the stool, she was still incredibly short compared to him, the top of her head now only reaching a little above his nose. “I think you're just clumsy.”
“I am not!” Koge placed both hands on his cheeks, giving him a rough kiss as punishment. “You scared me. Not very nice. Now you have to help me get your shirt down, I can’t reach it.” Turning back around, she demonstrated her inability to reach, huffing in annoyance. “Damn being short!” Bakugou waited until she was standing normally before he bent down a bit, wrapping his arms around her thighs and hoisting her up into the air as she squeaked in surprise. Leaning back a bit to support her, he basically allowed her butt to sit on his collarbone area, his head turned and resting against her lower back. “There, now you can reach.”
Holding her arms out to make sure she was balanced, Koge went to work unclipping the clothespins to release the shirt, putting them back on further down the line to where she actually could reach. “This isn’t exactly what I expected, but I’ll take it.” While folding the shirt, she didn’t feel Bakugou’s lips as he smirked against the skin of her lower back, her tank top having ridden up from him holding her. Kissing her skin softly, he finally got her attention, feeling her pause. “What are you doing?”
“Well, there’s skin right here next to my face, what else am I supposed to do?” With that, he bit down onto her flesh, making her wiggle and drop the shirt messily into the clothes basket. “O-ow! Katsuki don’t bite me there!” As she went to work pulling down the next shirt she hadn’t been able to reach, Bakugou continued his bratty behavior, using his teeth and nose to push her shirt up even higher. “Don’t bite you there? Where can I bite you, then? Here—“ He nibbled at the soft flesh near her hip, able to see the goosebumps spread across her fair skin. “Everywhere else is covered.”
“Pfft, that hasn’t ever stopped you before. I’m done.” Koge reached back and gently patted his cheek, prompting Bakugou to put her back down on the stool. “What would you do without me, Utsuro? You’d never get that laundry down.” Koge leaned back against him, resting her head on his shoulder as his arms wrapped around her waist. “Well, it wouldn’t be that high up in the first place because you wouldn’t have done it. So it wouldn’t be a problem--” She was interrupted by a giggle as he gave her cheek a rough kiss, silencing her teasing. “Shut up! Don’t try to rationalize my point.”
“No?” Koge reached up to run her fingers through his hair gently, loving the feeling of his lips on her skin as they traveled down her neck. “You know I’d be totally lost without you. Laundry would just never be the same.” Bakugou’s kisses came to a stop as he rested his chin on her shoulder, his hand slipping under her shirt to stroke the skin of her stomach gently. “Y’know, it’s kind of nice to have you taller. Even just this much makes a big difference. I don’t have to break my fucking back to do this.” Leaning her head against his gently, Koge kept her eyes out on the city view. “Whatever, you like me short. You like being able to just toss me around like I’m a little doll or something.”
“Hm, true. Since you’re done with laundry, why don’t we go back inside?” What once were kisses were now nibbles along the delicate skin of her neck, his hand sliding slowly further up her shirt. He just couldn’t help himself. He craved her body, her kisses and the sweet sounds she made. Though, Koge couldn’t blame him, since she was the same way. Just his eyes on her could fill her with a raging need, a wanting to feel his hands on her and his teeth in her flesh. What made this moment even worse was the fact that she was tall enough for her hips to be able to press into his, and she could feel the hard form of his member under his sweatpants up against her ass. Damn that turned her on, how she could get him hard without having to do a single thing.
“Go back inside? Why should we, ah--” A gasp interrupted her as Bakugou took full advantage of her braless breasts, pinching a nipple between his eager fingers. “-Why should we go inside? What’s wrong with right here?” Koge let one hand tangle back into his hair as she bit down onto her bottom lip, restraining her voice as his other hand slipped between her legs to stroke her. She had already soaked through the fabric of her leggings, making it slick against his touch. “Seriously, Utsuro? You want me to fuck you on the balcony? What if someone sees us?” Koge gave a small shake of her head, voice hitching a bit as his fingers became a bit more aggressive. “N-no one can see us here. And if they do, who cares. We’re just… two little dots from the street.”
“I think hearing you would be the bigger problem. You already can’t keep quiet.” Bakugou gave a rough bite to a soft spot on her neck, making her whine and wiggle her body back against him. “That just makes it more fun.” Too eager to wait, Koge pushed her leggings and underwear down to her things, before promptly spreading open the hole in the front of Bakugou’s sweatpants to release his cock. “Please, Katsuki--” A sharp moan escaped her as he cut off her plea, quickly sinking his entire length into her depths. Quickly her hand shot up to cover her mouth, the other gripping Bakugou’s arm that rested around her hips. A pleasured sigh escaped his lips, his hot breath rolling down her neck and making her shiver.
“Fuck, Utsuro… You’re so fucking wet.” As he began to thrust his hips, he kept one hand on her breasts, squeezing and teasing her nipple as he pleased. “You’re such a fucking slut, always wanting me to fuck you in public. You get off on the thought of being caught?” Koge nodded, struggling to keep her voice muffled behind her palm. Each trust filled every inch of her, slamming so deep within her that she could very well go insane. It was nearly too much pleasure for her to stay standing, depending on his arms around her to keep her steady. Though, the instant his fingers began to tease her clit, paired with his increasingly rough thrusting, Koge could no longer stand it.
Her hand moving from her mouth to grip his arm, she took in a sharp breath, voice trembling as she tried to restrain her moans. “Oh fuck! Katsuki--”
“Ms. Naegi? Is that you over there? Are you okay?”
Koge instantly held her breath as Bakugou stopped, both looking towards the wall right beside them at the sound of their neighbours voice. A young man their age, Bakugou had always been able to tell he had a bit of a thing for Koge, helping her with groceries and stupid shit like that. A solid concrete wall between their balconies, there was no way for the man to see them, unless he climbed over the railing and shimmied his way over to their side. So, Koge felt confident that he wouldn’t be able to see what they were doing, but keeping her voice down? That was another problem.
“A-ah, Gou! I’m totally fine, just—“ It took every inch of her self control to not moan as Bakugou began to thrust again. She could feel his smirk against her skin, his fingers and cock driving her wild. “—I’m just doing laundry and I almost fell, but I’m o..okay.”
“Ya sure? You sound kinda winded. Is Mr. Bakugou home?”
Bakugou's lips moved up to Koges ear, whispering in a low and quiet growl. “Why don’t you tell him the truth? About how good I’m fucking you.”
“Y-yes, Katsuki is home, he’s just fu— ah, he’s folding the clothes.”
“Maybe you should go take a rest. You don’t sound well.”
“That’s because you’re about to cum all over my cock, that’s why. Tell him, Utsuro.”
“Thank y-you for worrying but-but really I’m f-fine!”
“If you say so… I’ve just never quite heard someone sound like that.”
“He’s a fucking cherry boy. He’ll never know what it’s like to fuck you, you horny bitch.”
“It’s just a cold, really! It- mm, it’s just fucking me- ah, I mean, fucking with me.” Koge couldn’t control a gasp as Bakugou pulled her hips up a bit, reaching even deeper into her. Her entire body was on fire, her orgasm building so rapidly she knew it would burst at any second.
“Oh, I have a good home remedy for things like that. Would you want it?”
“You want my cum, Utsuro? You want me to fill you up?”
“A-ah, yes!” Koge could no longer ignore Bakugou’s filthy mouth, every word making her skin tingle and her stomach swim. “Yes, I want it!”
“O-oh. Well, I can… Make some for you, you sound like you uh… need it pretty bad.”
“How bad do you want it? Tell me, before I make you scream for it.”
“I want it! P-please, I need it!” Koge was no longer even paying attention to her neighbour, struggling to keep her moans in check as Bakugou moved his hand from her breast to her neck. Squeezing with the amount of pressure that he knew she loved, he fucked her harder, taking her how he pleased until he felt her squeeze tightly around him. Her body jerking and wiggling with her orgasm, Bakugou covered her mouth for her, knowing she wasn’t going to be able to control the moans that would spill from her lips. Sure enough, she gasped and moaned into his hand as he buried himself deep within her, his hot release filling her.
“Well, okay, I can… I’ll make you some. It will be a little bit.”
“What?” Koge asked breathlessly as Bakugou released her mouth, leaning back against him as she tried to recover. “You’ll make me what?”
“Uh… Soup? For you cold?”
“Oh.” She felt heat rush to her face as Bakugou pulled his member from her, feeling his cum escape with his exit and begin it’s decent down her thighs. “Soup. Right. Sure, thanks.”
“Okay. It’ll be just a little bit.”
With that, the sound of his footsteps and balcony door shutting reached the couple, and Koge looked up at the smug smirk on Bakugou’s lips. “That was mean.” Bakugou snickered, holding her still trembling body tight against him. “No, it was hilarious. Don’t try to be all innocent, you were so into it I thought you were going to end up telling him.” With a soft click of her tongue, Koge wiggled her way around to face him, putting her arms around his neck. “That would be awkward.”
“He’d probably get off to it, I bet. Fucking cherry boy needs to get it through his head that you aren’t into him.” Bakugou took a moment to kiss her passionately, holding her tightly against him. “But seriously, Utsuro… We’ll end up caught one day.”
“It’s okay.” Koge gave a sly smile, running her finger along his jawline tenderly. “We’ll just run away.”
“Tch, right. At least we got free dinner out of it this time.”
“We? No, no, no. Me. I’m the sick one remember.” Koge released him, hopping off the stool to head back inside. Not wanting to pull her yoga pants back up over the liquid that coated her legs, she waddled back into the apartment. “It’s my soup!” Glowering at her as he found her waddling to be ridiculous, Bakugou fixed his member back into his sweatpants and followed, picking up the laundry basket as he went.
“You’re not going to share?! It was because of me you sounded like that.”
“You have to earn it! Why don’t you come shower with me and clean me up real good. Then maybe I’ll consider giving you some soup.”
“Yeah, I’ll clean you up real good, by spanking the fucking brat out of you.”

TodoMomo Disney AU
@kitanoko I don’t really have enough words to thank you Dora! Whether you know it or not, you did help me meet some of my best friends out there, and since today’s your bday, I hope to return the favor, if only a little. Last year I started a silly coffee shop AU. Keeping the tradition, here are hcs to a Todomomo Disney AU that I will, one day, write. I hope you enjoy it!!
Part 2
Momo’s Mom died after giving birth to her, leaving her an her father alone. As such, the two develop a very strong bond (they’re the only family the other has left) and can’t imagine living without the other. That’s why, despite Momo turning 18 soon, she can’t even fathom getting married, and promises she’ll never leave her sickly father, moving in with her possible mostly improbable fiance.
Her Dad, however, wants her to start a family and be happy, and it breaks his heart that Momo puts him before herself.
Momo is content with her life as it is, because she lives the adventures she’d like to embark on through books. She’s read and reread every single book in the little library in her village, and often stops to chat with Aizawa, the librarian, who seems to be the only person in town not judging her for being a literate and asseritve woman. Not that she cares what others think - she’s fine being the outcast; it means no one will bother her and her father and disrupt their feeble balance with marriage proposals stemming from shallow looks. She especially dislikes Monoma, a guy who constantly asserts his greatness through meaningless acts and tries obtaining her hand in marriage like she’s some prize to hold in his trophy case.
One day, her father goes on a business trip (their town is too small for him to make profit selling clocks, which is their family tradition) and asks Momo what she wishes for. She kisses his cheek as he leaves and says, “Nothing, father. I only wish for you to come back safe.” “Come on, dear. Your birthday is coming up - at least tell me what gift you want.” She chuckles, shaking her head softly. “Then, a rose.”
What Momo really yearns for are friends, friends that won’t approach her for her status or looks, but people that genuinely like her and don’t think she’s weird, like the rest of the town does. She wants someone to talk to about books apart from Aizawa and her own father, and he wants to be respected. Sadly, that’s not the sort of present you can just wrap in a nice red bow and ship through the post.
A week passes by, and Momo starts realising just how lonely she is without her father, how dubious the looks everyone throws her are, how disgusting the stares of the boys in the village. She goes by the post everyday, the letters and cursive writing of her father being her only company.
But one day, the envelope doesn’t come. It doesn’t come the second and third day either, and Momo grows increasingly worried. No longer able to just stand by and do nothing, she leaves the third day, at nightfall, taking a horse from the stable and following the road she knows her father always takes.
As she enters the forest (never been there before, but knows her father’s stories about how beautiful this place is and that he’s always passing by a posh mansion with an wonderful garden) the night falls. The moonlight reflects off something and catches her eye, and Momo hops off her horse to grab the glistening object - it’s a watch on an old, golden pendant, one that she knows all too well. It’s her mother’s watch, that her dad always takes with when travelling.
Momo raises her eyes to see she’s in front of the mansion her father told her so much about, only to find it completely deserted - just like in his stories. Still, it’s her best shot, cause Momo knows her Dad would never lose the watch, he just isn’t that careless, and so she pushes the huge iron gates open. To her surprise, they’re unlocked, but their screech like they haven’t been used in a long time
Meanwhile, Iida (he’s Cogsworth fight me) rushes into Todoroki’s chambers, “Lord Todoroki! We have another visitor, and this time, it’s a girl!” “So what?” “What do you fucking mean so what you bastard?!” Bakugou yells, opening and closing his doors furiously (he’s the wardrobe). “I don’t care if you think the beast suit is cool but I fucking want to be human again, so get down there and don’t you fucking dare growl at her!” “I hate trespassers,” Todoroki seethes, closing his book loudly. “Why would she be any different from anyone who passed over the threshold?” “Just fucking GO!” Bakugou roars, and Kaminari (Lumiere wohooo) lights up Todoroki’s tail. “My lord, no offense, but you brooding here won’t change anything, whereas this girl might. Besides, I heard her calling for her father, so we might as well let the old man go.” “Why were you keeping him in the first place?” Todoroki asks, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Because, my lord,” Iida fixes his glasses, “I thought something like this might happen!” “Brilliant,” Bakugou grits out, “Now fucking get out.”
(Somewhat reluctantly) climbing down the stairs, Todoroki is met with Midoriya (Mr. Potts because there aren’t enough characters in the original story) and informs Todo, “She went to the cells.” “Oh, just marvelous,” Todo growls, storming down the stairs as Kaminari calls, “Slower, my lord, or my flames will go out!”
She finds a girl indeed, crouching in front of the cell with the old man and holding his hands in between hers. When she hears his footsteps, she whips her head around, and Todo must hand it to her: nobody has ever looked angrier upon first seeing him. There’s no ounce of fear as she looks him up and down, fire burning in her eyes as she says, “Who are you?”
“The lord of this castle.” “Why did you lock my father away?” “Momo don’t-” “He was trespassing my grounds and vandalizing my garden,” Todo lazily answers. “What do you ask for to free him?” Todoroki feels Kaminari poking him with the flamed hands again and holds back a growl of annoyance. He knows what everyone wants, but they’re honestly just raising their hopes for naught. Although this girl - this girl who stands up straight and stares him down - she may be different. “You need to take his place.”
“Momo, no!” the man yells. “Run away and save yourself!” “And leave you here? Never, father.” Looking at him again, the girl takes a step toward Todo, and he finally notices that she is shivering, but her knees don’t buckle. “I’ll stay here,” she begis, “as long as you promise that my father is allowed to go and you’ll never bother or harm him in any way, shape or form. No loopholes. No trickeries. My life for his.” “MOMO!” “That sounds fair,” Todo says with a smirk - this might be interesting.
With the flick of his fingers, the cell door opens and the old man stumbles out, throwing his arms tightly against the girl. “Momo, I can’t lose you!” she mumbles something Todo can’t make out as she shifts in his arms to hug him, and Todo turns around, stalking up the stairs. “Follow me,” he says, adding menacingly, “And don’t you try turning this around. A deal’s a deal.”
As such, after a teary goodbye Todo doesn’t stick around to witness, the old man is off and the girl turns towards him with a determined look. “Will you show me to my cell?” Todo huffs a breath laugh that sounds more like a roar. “Uraraka,” he calls, and a teapot appears. “Lead her to her chambers, and don’t bother me until dinner.” And with that, he’s off.
Uraraka does as inspected, stealing glances at a Momo who looks after Todoroki’s for. “What does he mean ‘chambers’? Am I not his prisonier?” “Oh dear no, you’re his guest!” Uraraka exclaims. “He just isn’t the best host, but we’ll take care of you!”
The room is dusty, but an old clock calls for a certain Jirou, and a feather duster waltzes in, “We get a guest once in a blue moon and suddenly I’m Cinderella minus the crystal shoes and prince,” she sighs, to which a candle holder shouts, “I’m your prince in shining armor,” he winks, the flames getting brighter. Uraraka dumps water on his head, “ruining his hairstyle” and eliciting giggles from Jirou.
Momo collapses on the bed and feels her view growing hazy. Soon enough, warm tears are streaming down her cheeks and she buries her face in her hands, sobbing rippling through her spine. The duster and candle holder stop bickering and join the teapot that hops on her bed. “Dear? What’s wrong?” Momo lets out a brittle laugh, “What do you think? I’m God knows where, with talking furniture, and a beast that has decided to hold me captive for unknown reasons and worst of all? Father is alone! How can he lose me after he lost Mom? I hate that I did this to him but what else could I have done?” Her thoughts swarm out of control and she takes a shaky breath. “I can’t believe I’m crying in public, this is so embarrassing.”
Jirou pats her hand, the feathery touch making Momo laugh, if only barely. “You did the right thing,” she says. The candle holder chimes in, “Yeah, and Todoroki is nice! He’s eccentric and kinda helps Uraraka pour water on me to dampen my mood-” at this, the teapot wiggled menacingly and Kaminari clears his throat “- but he’s a nice guy. He cares, you know? He only fed your Dad our best stuff!” “The grey stuff!” a voice from the wardrobe says, and Momo turns around to discover it is the wardrobe speaking.
“Why are you all guys-why are you all objects? Were you always like this?” They collectively shake their… heads, Momo decides to call them heads for lack of a better word. “And has he always been… a beast?” Another shake. “Have you been cursed?” At this, Jirou notes, “This one’s smart, I like her. Can we keep her?” “Am I here to help break that spell?” “Oh we’re definitely keeping her,” Uraraka adds.
Kaminari and Iida insist on giving her a tour of the mansion, and so Momo finds out that there are three cats roaming around the premises, and that Lord Todoroki personally feeds every one of them (“they can see beyond the scary exterior,” Iida contemplates, whereas Kaminari conspiratorially whispers in Momo’s ear, “They probably just think he’s one of their own”); the kitchens are impeccable, and Momo is subjected to test taste so many things she thinks she’ll burst; the main lobby is warmed by a crackling fireplace in front of which Lord Todoroki likes reading and enjoying his morning coffee (and his cups are so small, despite his claws).
And yet, it all feels very… Empty, and somewhat lacking, Momo thinks.
She doesn’t see Todoroki that day, or the next one, or the one after that. She tries knocking at his door but only gets angry growls, followed by an annoyed voice yelling, “Just fucking go out there, you moron!” and a roared, “NO!”
“What’s the point of me even being here?” she asks the humming piano in the corner, a cheery girl named Camie. “Lord Todo can be stubborn,” she singsongs. “And I think you’re confusing him.” “Confusing… him?” “Well, to be fair,” Ashido interrupts, “every other human who saw him ran away.” “It’s totally because of his weird fur. I keep telling him to wear a wig,” Camie sighs. “I think she was going for scary,” Jirou sarcastically interrupts. “Scary,” Momo muses. “It’s more like… he tries to seem scary.”
Anyhow, she decides to take a walk and clear her mind cause the sooner she breaks the spell, the sooner she sees her dad again. Kaminari and Iida accompany her in the garden, and as she marvels at the roses, she notices one of the cats crawling between the bars of the gates and into the woods. Momo immediately follows her because the servants have told her how these cats are the only company Todoroki has and that he treasures them immensely, but when she finally catches the runaway, she finds herself in the middle of the woods… surrounded by wolves.
Iida runs to get Todo, “My Lord, our guest is-” but finds the room empty and the window open because Todo was watching from the window and saw her disappear, and he figured she might be in danger.
Momo is cradling the cat to her chest, squeezing her eyes shut as the wolves get closer and trying to think but then Todo jumps in front of her and roars ferociously. The fight isn’t nice, and the wolves’ fangs cut through Todo’s arm as a pained groan rips out of him. That’s when Momo knows she has to do something and grabs Kaminari, yelling, “Shine brighter!” as she shoves the fire in the wolves faces. That makes them run away, just as Todoroki collapses behind Momo.
She carries him back to the mansion and instructs Kaminari to bring her rubbing alcohol and cotton tissues. Todoroki stirs with his head in her lap and Momo places both of her hands on his face, hissing, “Oh just stay quiet.” When Kaminari finally gets back, the alcohol warmed by his flames, Momo realizes none of the bandages is wide enough for Todo’s beastly arm and rips a piece of her dress to properly tie up his wounds.
“Why are you doing this?” Todo pants, turning away from Momo so she won’t see his face. “Because you saved me,” she simply responds, tying up the impromptu bandage. “Well that’s rich, considering I put you in danger in the first place.” “Did you ask the wolves to attack me because you re you a wolf-whisperer?” she asks, voice dripping with irony. “No, but if I wasn’t holding you here, you wouldn’t have wanted to escape, right?”
Momo bends over him so he can see her serious face and says, “I was out because your cat ran away.” As if to prove her point, the grey cat rubs against her tights and meowls. “I’m a girl of my word, Lord Todoroki, and I said I’m staying here. No trickeries.” For the first time ever, Todo sees her smile at him, and it’s dazzling. It’s been so long since anyone has smiled for him last.
Straightening herself up, Momo extends her hand. “I think we started off the wrong foot. I’m Momo Yaoyorozu, and you’ve been a horrible guest for these past three days, Lord Todoroki.” He looks at her bewildered, and Kaminari pokes him with his aflame hand to remind Todoroki he should shake her hand. To his surprise, she doesn’t flinch when his paw envelopes her slender fingers. “Todoroki Shouto,” he mumbles and watches as the smile on her face widens, reaching her eyes and sending glimmers dancing. “It’s a pleasure,” she answers.
They stay up till late in the living room with the crackling fireplace, Momo talking about the bits she’s gathered since her arrival. “I’m not leaving until I break this curse. That’s why you wanted me here, right?” Todo nods, at a loss for words, and a smirk pulls at her lips. “For a man who hasn’t talked with anyone else for years, you sure have a presence,” she jests.
He can’t quite wrap his head around her, neither does he know what to do when she dozes off way past midnight on the couch. Iida instructs him to carry ehr to her chambers, but she looks so fragile that Shouto just drapes a blanket over her and watches her peaceful face for a minute longer before facing Bakugou’s angry growls (he dad, after all, ruin one of his best suits).
This is just PART 1. The real Todomomo comes in part 2, which I still hope to get out in time for your bday:) Also I have to thank my glam fam for adding hcs to this (I should have a special edition just for punny kami thanks to @verdandys-art and a BakuCamie star-crossed lovers story thanks to @teenytraveler and @infallibleimperfection lol)
But until then, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DORA!!!
