I'm back with more dgrayman doujin fangame updates! after last time where I found Kanda x Lavi fangame that got a physical edition, I decided to keep digging to find the other games the developer made while waiting for it to come in. well, I've found another!

(if these interest you, I'm going to tag all of these posts as "#dgm fangames")

I was able to find & order a disc for their first dgm fangame, Infinite Melody (also called unendliche Melodie). like before, this game was so old (from 2007!!!) and only in JP that I basically haven't been able to find anything on it. and when I got the disc in...

...it was a preorder bonus for the game that's just a strategy guide! a bit of a letdown haha, but still interesting nonetheless. (side note: the site I found it on had translated part of the kanji as "attack"- but if you add 本 to the end of it, it suddenly becomes... strategy guide!)

so I loaded it up and found a 16 page pdf by the creator that is a guide for how to play the game. and now I'll share it online for preservation/archival purposes.

A bit of a shoddy translation-

Hello, nice to meet you! My name is Rindo, the owner of moonlight cafe. Thank you very much for choosing the sound novel type adventure game "Infinite Melody" produced by our circle!!

They then go on to say that this is their first (?) work for dgm and that they've published several works before (other games?) so they're more familiar with that than making manga. From their experience this game isn't that hard but they wanted to make a strategy guide just incase for the people who didn't want to keep retrying. After that they talk a bit more about the game structure itself- it sounds like Kanda is the main love interest and there are 2 scenarios, one for Allen and one for Lavi. It also sounds like there's a CG gallery in the game.

So, a bit of explanations for those not used to visual novels- in Japan (especially in the 2000s) they were referred to as sound novels or adventure games rather than visual novels (nowadays you'll see them called adventure games). A love interest is a character that's romanceable for you, the player character. A route is a set of choices that leads you down a particular story, usually just meant to signify a specific character- so if you have a game with multiple love interests, then saying "the Kanda route" would mean you're talking about the storyline that happens when you romance Kanda (but "route" is not specific to just romance).

The next section is character bios! This game is set in modern times with Allen as some sort of apprentice working for a magazine company.

a brief translation summary-

Allen is a newbie reporter for the music magazine "Asian Music". He heard Kanda's songs over the radio years ago which got him interested, but this turned into disgust the more he learned about Kanda. That doesn't stop him from buying Kanda's new CDs, though. He lives alone in a very cheap apartment.

Lavi works for an entertainment production company (Rozenkuroitsu? Rosenkreuz?? (????)) and Kanda's manager & music arranger. He's supposed to only be his manager but Kanda insisted on him doing arrangements too. There's more here about Lenalee being the younger sister of the company's president and her and Kanda are childhood friends with Lavi.

(side note- the oval at the top of these says "character [number]" followed by their name, and Lavi's lastname is still listed as Bookman, even in modern times. just a funny little detail)

Kanda is a singer-songwriter who's very popular- his songs always reach the top of the ranking charts. Despite this, people fixate on his looks when mentioning him. He's currently under a lot of stress due to his increasing workload and his popularity. He's a bully who loves Perrier (the water??), quietness, and the sky.

top one- Bak Chan (yes, that's Bak!)

Bak is the editor-in-chief for "Asian Music" and Allen's boss. He's old friends with Komui Lee, the president of the studio Kanda and Lavi work at, but he refuses to ask for special interviews because pride (?).

bottom one- Lenalee Lee

Lenalee is the younger sister of Komui, the president of the studio Kanda and Lavi work at. She's also the one who writes the lyrics for Kanda's songs. Her, Lavi, and Kanda are all childhood friends.

next is a few screenshots of what the game looks like! lots of CGs, too bad we can't see any fully. (a CG is basically cutscene artwork)

the next section is a quick strategy on how to get the good ending for each route. it looks like this game has a different way of setting it up- usually a "route" is for a love interest, but in this game you're able to play as Allen or Lavi and date Kanda as either of them, so the "routes" are for Allen and Lavi (despite playing as them).

Allen route

the creator listed some of the important choices in the game and gives a small idea of how to answer them to get the best ending. for players this would be a helpful guide, but for us it'll help us get an idea of what the game covers.

the first choice is set in Kanda's office where you choose a drink. Allen hates alcohol so that's a no-go, but if you remember from Kanda's bio he love Perrier.

the next choice is when Kanda asks Allen out on a date. despite wanting to go, it might be better to decline him so both of you can focus on work.

the next choice is where to take Kanda on his day off. it should be somewhere where Kanda doesn't have to use a microphone (as that's his day job) and somewhere where people won't be staring at him (as he's basically a celebrity).

the last choice is a bit hard for me to understand- the author said they left some of these vague, and this one is basically "Kanda asked me directly!!". maybe it's a love confession? once you reach this part, the creator says you can rest easy (and maybe bully him a bit).

Lavi route

Lavi is Kanda's manager so several of his choices are related to, well, managing Kanda.

his first choice listed is whether or not he should interrupt Kanda and Allen arguing in a room together. even if you might be in the way, Kanda might appreciate you being by his side.

his next choice is about going to Los Angeles (a vacation?). Kanda is Kanda and will be grumpy, but lying to him will make things even worse. (I'm not sure if this is Lavi trying to convince Kanda to go to LA for a vacation or Lavi going alone to LA and Kanda ends up going)

the next choice is Kanda insisting on going back home to Japan. work is important, but Kanda's health is even more important (especially as you're his manager). after persuading him, indulge in what he wants for a bit.

the last choice is.... where should Kanda sit on the plane?? if you made it this far then the creator says you can relax. they say Kanda may be stubborn but he's not a child- you don't have to always take care of him.

you can play either route in whatever order you want, but if you get the true ending in either route, you'll get bonuses! the creator really encourages you to play both routes.

this is a mini skit between Lavi and Allen with Kanda interjecting. It's basically Allen and Lavi arguing who Kanda likes more.

last but not least is a final credits page for the doujin circle.

on the website there's this description for the game, which we already kind of understand from the character bios:

見習い雑誌記者アレンは、メディア嫌いで有名なミュージシャン“神田ユウ”の取材をすることになった。同じく、神田のマネージャーのラビは多忙を極める神田の、心労を解消させる方法を模索していた。取材当日、生理的に嫌いだと思っていた神田を前にアレンはとんでもない失言をしてしまう……。 　みたいなノリです。詳しくは体験版をお試しください。 　最初の選択肢でアレンルート（神アレ）とラビルート（ラビュ）に分かれます。

basically- Allen works as an apprentice reporter who is assigned to interview Kanda, a popular singer who hates reporters. Lavi is Kanda's manager who is trying to find a way to relieve Kanda's stress. on the day of the interview, Allen said something (improper/embarrassing/a slip of the tongue) even though he thought he hated Kanda.

even more surprisingly, there's still a trial file on the website?! I'm not brave enough to download this lzh file right now, but maybe soon once I get an isolated environment... if you press the Trial page and then the first line under the image, there's a lzh file (a type of zip file) you can download. please only do this with virus protection on your computer or in a virtual machine, don't download strange files with no protection!!

yep, that's about it. I'll be on the lookout for this game's physical release (that's not the guide book haha) and the developer's other games, but I hope this was interesting!

What year did you first get into DGM? It was when I was in the second year of my University, so it was at the end of 2019. My best friend started to watching it, so I searched about it.

Who’s your favorite character? That is the easiest question. Yu Kanda was my first favorite character, but now is Nea D. Campbell and I kinda like Bak Chang too. I liked Yu Kanda for his design, but I liked Nea D. Campbell and Bak Chang for both designs and personalities. If I had to choose only one, I would choose Nea D. Campbell.

Who’s your least favorite character? Apocryphos. For SO many reasons: He is hunting Allen Walker, he wants to kill Nea D. Campbell, he “killed“ Marian Cross and he detroyed the cutest thing in DGM series, Timcanpy.

Who’s your favorite general? General Cross Marian. He may behaved like an a**hole to Allen, but I know that he deeply loves and cares about him and the Order.

Who’s a character you would get along with? I would say Lenalee Lee, she is 3 years younger than me, but we have similar personalities. I believe that I would get alone with Bak Chang or Komui Lee too, we are all troublemakers, we love technology and trying new things.

What kind of innocence would you have? Parasitic type is my most favorite one. The exorcists with Parasitic type have higher synchronization rates, they can be healed by their innocence and they are immune to Akuma Virus!

What’s your ship? Allen Walker x Lenalee Lee. They deserve to be together, but because of Nea, he had to deny his feelings for her, just to protect her.

What’s your least favorite ship? I don’t like when people are shipping Kanda with Alma. They were couple in their previous life, where Alma was a woman. In the current life they are like friends and brothers.  

What branch would you want to be part of? That’s a little hard question. But, when I read about Chang’s family backstory, I would really love to be part of the Asian Branch and as I said, I woud really get along with Bak Chang.

What’s your favorite arc? I loved many arcs, for different reasons, but only one made me to love D. Gray-man even more: Searching for Allen Walker arc. We learn all the truth about D. Campbell twins, Millennium Earl and Allen. This arc made me feel thrilled, excitied, sad, scary and sick, in the same time. I loved it.

Tyki enjoys cuddling, but he isn’t big on it. 

Sometimes he’ll initiate it, but mostly it’s you. However, whenever your down for it, he’s down. Unless you are at one of the Earl’s sponsor’s parties, where he has to entertain and move around a lot.

Prefers cuddling when he knows nobody is going to both you and he doesn’t have to do anything.

Loves reading with you cuddled up in his lap honestly, more than he’d like to admit.

Is always the big spoon. Always.

Bak isn’t really into cuddling. He doesn’t have the time to do it. He’s a busy man, after all.

However, if you catch him after a really busy day, when he’s tired, you can coerce him into cuddling you. 

Since he’s so tired, he can be either the big spoon or the little spoon. If he’s the little spoon, however, he’ll be embarrassed in the morning and ask that you not say anything to anyone.

The only time he initiates cuddling is if your sad. Again, he can’t do it if he’s busy, but if you are feeling particularly down, he’ll make time for you.

Has no real preference for cuddling positions, but he does ask that you keep it strictly in the bedroom. All of the attention you both would get otherwise may make him break out in hives, which is a mess to deal with.

Nea doesn’t mind cuddling. He’s really chill about it.

However he does cling really bad when you cuddle so be warned, you brought this on yourself if you initiated it.

He won’t shy away from cuddling you in front of others (especially Cross). It’s one of the ways he can show you off.

However, besides his friends, he will not cuddle you in front of anyone else. He puts his foot down on that. He’s scared one of his many enemies will see and use you against him.

He prefers to be big spoon but if you beg his will might bend and you can be the big spoon.

Komui LOVES cuddles! Cuddle him anywhere, anytime. He is ready.

He uses cuddles as an excuse to get away from work. You have to yell at him when you realize he still has work to do. 

He also clings tightly when you cuddle; be careful, you might have to walk around the Order with Komui stuck to your leg.

He will absolutely be the little spoon if you want him to be, he isn’t complaining. 

He will cuddle you in his office. It’s the only way you can get him to do any work.

As the tributes stand on their podiums, the horn sounds. Road and Winters fight for a bag. Winters gives up and retreats. Johnny grabs a backpack and retreats. Fou finds a bag full of explosives. Lenalee stays at the cornucopia for resources. Lvellie runs away from the Cornucopia. Bookman runs away from the Cornucopia. Bak runs away from the Cornucopia. Kanda runs away with a lighter and some rope. Tyki Milk runs away from the Cornucopia. Miranda scares Timothy Hearst away from the cornucopia. Lavi clutches a first aid kit and runs away. Klaud grabs a sword. Alma stays at the cornucopia for resources. Krory runs away from the Cornucopia. Earl cannot handle the circumstances and commits unalive. Anita runs away from the Cornucopia. Tiedoll runs away from the Cornucopia. Cross stabs Allen while his back is turned. (wtf Cross!?!) Reever runs away from the Cornucopia. Link finds a bow, some arrows, and a quiver. Lenalee receives clean water from an unknown sponsor. Reever and Johnny huddle for warmth. (ahahaha gay) Lvellie is awoken by nightmares. (He deserves it) Link and Fou tell stories about themselves to each other. Kanda, Klaud, Lavi, and Timothy Hearst tell each other ghost stories to lighten the mood. (Kanda and Klaud to? Nice) Road stays awake all night. Cross sees a fire, but stays hidden. Krory receives an explosive from an unknown sponsor. Day 2

Reever forces Miranda to kill Road or Krory. She decides to kill Krory. (nooo) Tiedoll questions his sanity. Lavi, Lvellie, Anita, Link, and Johnny hunt for other tributes. Lenalee receives a hatchet from an unknown sponsor. Komui scares Alma off. Timothy Hearst picks flowers. (awhhh) Bookman receives fresh food from an unknown sponsor. Fou and Kanda work together to drown Cross. (that’s what you get for stabbing your apprentice in the back you ass). Klaud camouflauges herself in the bushes.

Night 2

Bookman severely slices Fou with a sword. Tiedoll goes to sleep. Miranda receives a hatchet from an unknown sponsor. Komui questions his sanity. (didn’t know he had that) Road stays awake all night. (baby girl get some sleep wtf this is two nights now) Alma and Link talk about the tributes still alive. Timothy Hearst bashes Reever's head against a rock several times. (OMFG this child is not one to be messed with) Anita climbs a tree to rest. Lvellie forces Lavi to kill Klaud or Kanda. He decides to kill Klaud. Johnny and Lenalee run into each other and decide to truce for the night.

Day 3

Lavi, Lvellie, Alma, Link, and Timothy Hearst hunt for other tributes. Tiedoll dies from hunger. (seriously wtf man) Road explores the arena. Kanda constructs a shack. Bookman attacks Johnny, but he manages to escape. Lenalee receives a hatchet from an unknown sponsor. Komui receives medical supplies from an unknown sponsor. Miranda travels to higher ground. Anita discovers a river.

Night 3

Johnny receives a hatchet from an unknown sponsor. Komui tends to his wounds. Lvellie starts a fire. (I hope you burn) Bookman and Kanda sleep in shifts. Anita tends to her wounds. Alma tends to his wounds. Lavi, Road, and Timothy Hearst cheerfully sing songs together. (cute) Link convinces Lenalee to snuggle with him. (Link x Lenalee???) Miranda cries herself to sleep. (Seems legit)

Day 4

Bookman camouflauges himself in the bushes. Lenalee dies from an infection. (wtf!!!!) Lavi tries to spear fish with a trident. Anita, Alma, Road, and Lvellie raid Komui's camp while he is hunting. (eheheheh) Link discovers a cave. Timothy Hearst discovers a river. Kanda scares Miranda off. Johnny accidently detonates a land mine while trying to arm it. (Crap)

Arena Event

A monstrous hurricane wreaks havoc on the arena. Bookman tries to save Miranda from being sucked into the hurricane, only to be sucked in as well. Kanda stabs Timothy Hearst, then pushes him close enough to the hurricane to suck him in. (fucking rude yeeting the baby into the hurricane Kanda) Road is sucked into the hurricane. Lavi tries to save Anita from being sucked into the hurricane, only to be sucked in as well. Alma is incapacitated by flying debris and dies. Komui survives. Link survives. Lvellie survives. (ewww)

(Dead: Johnny, Lena, Lavi, Anita, Bookman, Timothy, Miranda, Alma, Road)

Night 4

Komui cooks his food before putting his fire out. Link attempts to start a fire, but is unsuccessful. Kanda goes to sleep. Lvellie dies from thirst. (Thank god).

The Feast

The cornucopia is replenished with food, supplies, weapons, and memoirs from the tributes' families. Komui bleeds out due to untreated injuries. Kanda stabs Link while his back is turned.

• Who’s your favorite character?

allen....... (hence my username LOL)  love his character design but his whole personality is just - something i can really relate to and understand wholeheartedly. i would protect him with my life.   kanda is a close second- his character development and design from the alma arc to now? *chefs kiss* love this kiddo!

tyki - very sexii complex character. i think a major development is gonna happen with him in the near future. 

• Who’s your least favorite character? lvellie- never takes accountability for anything and has an awful personality. selfish, cruel, and i wish him a very unpleasant die evening :)  renny- after everything that happened with alma, she still chose to go ahead and do the third exorcist project. same as lvellie, never takes accountability for anything and is an idiot.  tui and edgar chang- believing in experimenting and torturing children for the gains of war? nah fck that man. they were all terrible people. not to mention, they were horrible parents to bak and neglected him for most of his life.  you can defend edgar all you want but he still was a bystander in all this. he didn’t have to be a pushover for his wife. he still could’ve said something to stop it all. anyways im sorry bak you had to deal with that. 

overall these people do not take responsibility for anything and believe in the “whatever it takes to win this war!” mentality even if it means doing inhumane procedures. 

chaozii- he’s so stubborn and i hate his attitude. also i hate his black/white mentality where he won’t listen to any logistics or reasoning. super thickheaded and annoying tbh.  sheril- im sorry but........he’s such a karen LOL ( hes just fun to make fun of)

it’s a tie between tiedoll and klaud. love these two so much.  cross wasn’t too bad either tbh- yeah he’s kinda a deadbeat and could’ve treated allen better but we know that he regards allen as his own child deep down inside and there’s def something up with him in the newer chapters that are about to come out. 

• Who’s a character you would get along with?

allen, lenalee, lavi, and prob johnny (best boi)  also would love to be friends with alma (if he was alive today and none of that ever happened to him :,) he’s the sweetest baby) 

• What kind of innocence would you have?

HMMMM maybe something like a bow & arrow?

TOO MANY rewinding city where they meet miranda!  phantom thief g in paris was fun  seeds of destruction (alma) arc- i cry everytime  searching for allen walker/saying goodbye - the artwork here is stunning. i know people complain it’s “too shoujo” and “girly” looking but tbh? i think it looks amazing. the details are so incredible and you can tell hoshino really took her time getting every little detail drawn on point.
