Happy Battle surf shop
Happy Battle Surf Co. 4958 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego I didn’t see any Quicksilver, Billabong, or Tommy Bahama. What I found instead was locally shaped boards of varying lengths, a boom box playing cassettes, and best of all, was Mark. Mark Polintan was taping bubble wrap around a board when we popped in. He didn’t ask us if we needed help, he asked, “Did you surf today?” I sheepishly told him…

FDOT has almost done with the project to improve traffic flow.
I read from ABC Action News that the Florida Department of Transportation, or FDOT, is almost done with the project to improve the traffic flow on and off the I-75 in Brandon. They are ahead of their schedule in completing the project that will improve the safety and the traffic flow in major arteries – State Road 60 and the Selmon Expressway. It was in September 2018 when the FDOT started working on the multi-pronged project. This project will reduce the bottleneck on I-75 and SR 60 exits. As a traveler, I’m excited that this project will be finished early. Read more.

Bahama Grill - RIP
Rest in Peace. We will miss those ribs! Parkland. Of all palaces to find the best beef ribs you would not expect to get them at the Bahama Grill. Located in the shopping center a tad north of Wawa on 441 one block south of Hillsboro Blvd in the Waterways Shopping Center. Very hard to find. The restaurant is in the back once you turn in. A crazy design of a strip mall. Two huge beef ribs $22 with three sides. About $17 for one rib and sides, which is enough food to eat without gorging yourself on a second rib as I did! Sides of beans and mashed potatoes were ok. As was the side salad. The cornbread is actually a corn muffin. But those huge tender beef ribs are the star here. Fall off the bone beef short ribs. As good as the best you ever had in those fancy restaurants or top bbq joints.  Try the tropical sauce. Well worth a visit for us meat eaters!

2AM in L.A. - Chapter 5
Chapter Five: Palm Blvd.
Camila sat curled under a blanket as Sinu bustled around the kitchen, cooking a Cuban meal fit for kings. The decadent smells wafted through the house, reminding Camila of just how much she had missed the comforts of home.
“Mami,” she called. “Where are the old photo albums?”
“Next to the tv, mija!”
Camila wrapped herself tighter in the blanket and shuffled her way to the tv cabinet, pulling out two albums, their binding beginning to fall apart after so many years.
“Porque necesitas?”
“Just taking a trip down memory lane,” Camila smiled as she returned to the couch. She began flipping through the worn pages, each photo instantly taking her back to the moment it had been taken: family trips to the beach, her first talent show in elementary school, and her first middle school dance. She saw the smile on her face, how truly warm it was. It showed a pure happiness she hadn’t felt in months.
“Mami, do you think Hollywood has made me worse?”
Sinu stopped chopping vegetables, wiped her hands, and came to Camila’s side. She glanced at the photos before her, one of a 12-year-old Camila laughing with her friends.
“What do you mean?”
“I look so happy and free here,” Camila gestured to the photo. “I’m not like that anymore.”
“You were young, had no worries.”
“I know,” Camila sighed. “But I feel like I’ve changed.”
“Of course, mija,” Sinu sat down. “That’s what happens.”
“Not just a growing up change, though. I feel like I’m a different person. That she –“ Camila pointed at the girl in the photo “- wouldn’t want me to be like this.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Life is good here,” Camila looked around the house, its familiar charm and distant nostalgia beginning to gather tears in the corner of her eye. “It’s not like this in LA.”
“Why did you come home?” Sinu asked quietly. “Really?”
“I don’t belong out there, not by myself.”
“You aren’t by yourself, Camila. You have your friends and your team.”
“I have people, but I’m alone,” Camila shook her head. “I miss the real love I have here. I miss giving you and Papi a hug before I go to bed, and I miss Sofi, and all my friends.”
“What do you want?”
“I don’t know,” Camila answered quietly. “I want to feel real love, but sometimes it seems like this is the only place I feel it.”
The mother-daughter heart to heart was interrupted by the fire alarm chirping as Sinu’s vegetables began to burn. She raced to the kitchen to wave a rag in front of the smoke detector.
“I’m going to go for a walk,” Camila said, somehow oblivious to the burning meal in the other room. Her heart needed to be outside, toes in the sand, waves crashing in the distance. The only place she felt truly at home was Miami’s beautiful beach.
Lauren’s flight landed after a bumpy, turbulent ride across middle America. Taylor stood in the parking lot, keys in hand, and raced across the concrete to wrap Lauren in a bear hug as soon as she walked around the corner.
“Hi stranger!” Taylor shrieked.
“It hasn’t been that long,” Lauren protested with a smile, wrapping her arms around her little sister.
“Almost a year,” Taylor replied. “But it doesn’t matter, you’re here now!”
“A year?” Lauren paused. “Are you serious?”
“Well ten and a half months,” Taylor answered, loading Lauren’s bags into the back of the car. “But you’ve been busy.”
“Yeah,” Lauren trailed off.
“So where to first?” Taylor asked as they climbed into the front seat.
“Is that even a question?” Lauren laughed.
“Beach it is,” Taylor said with a smile. “Seriously, Lo. I’m really happy you’re home. I’ve missed you.”
The Jauregui girls chatted back and forth as Taylor drove out to the coast. She was now a high school senior, and as thrilled as Lauren was to see her again, she couldn’t help but feel the twinge of pain as she realized that every day she spent working in LA was another day of missing her little sister grow up. Taylor had become fiercely independent, and was accomplishing so much more than Lauren ever could have dreamed. Lauren had left a little girl when she went to audition for the X Factor, and in just a blink Taylor was truly a young woman. Realizing that her nostalgia had checked her out of the conversation completely, Lauren shook her head to refocus just as Taylor parked the car at Lauren’s favorite spot. It was small but secluded beach, known only by the true Miami natives.
“So what’s been up with you?” the younger Jauregui asked as the pair made their way down the wooden staircase from the pier to the sand.
“You know what’s been up,” Lauren replied. “Just because I’m away doesn’t mean we don’t talk.”
“Yeah, I guess. But – “ she paused, not wanting to start the visit off with a downer of a conversation.
“But what?” Lauren pressed.
“But not as much anymore. We used to talk basically every day, but now you barely ever call or even text.”
“What are you talking about?” Lauren asked, incredulous. “We talk all the time!”
“Well sure, if all the time means twice a month,” Taylor joked as she pulled out her phone and started scrolling through her call log. “Oh look, here you didn’t call for a full month!”
Lauren looked at Taylor’s screen, and instantly recognized the month. It had been one of her darkest months, when she had truly almost lost herself. She and Halsey claimed to be in the Bahamas, when Lauren had in fact spent the month holed up in a small apartment outside LA, at varying degrees of sobriety.
“You were with Halsey then, right?”
“Uh, yeah,” Lauren answered a little too quickly, shame creeping in as she began to understand that many parts of missing Taylor grow had been her own fault. “Sorry, it was a busy few weeks.”
“I know,” Taylor smiled. “I’m not mad about it. I know you’ve got a lot going on.”
“Do you think I’ve changed?” Lauren asked, intrigued for the perspective of someone who had known her literally her whole life.
“What do you mean?”
“Like do I seem different to you?”
Taylor paused, considering her honest answer, as well as the answer Lauren likely wanted to hear.
“I think you’ve grown up a lot and definitely become more confident in who you are,” Taylor began. “So if that’s changing, then yeah.”
“Is it an improvement?”
“Why the deep questions?” Taylor sighed. “I just want to enjoy you being here.”
“That sounds like a no,” Lauren replied.
“Obviously I can’t say it’s an improvement that we talk once a week if I’m lucky,” she explained. “But if you’re happy then it makes me a dick to say that it isn’t improvement.”
“You’ve gotten really smart,” Lauren smiled as she wrapped Taylor in a tight hug. “You’re gonna be smarter than me soon.”
“Pshhh, I’m already smarter than you,” Taylor laughed, before quickly returning to a serious tone. “But can I ask you something?”
Lauren’s stomach went into knots. She had worked hard to shelter Taylor from the choices she wasn’t proud of, but if Taylor asked outright, Lauren knew she couldn’t lie.
“Sure,” Lauren tried to keep her voice calm.
“Why did you come home?”
“Oh,” Lauren let out a quick sigh of relief. “I don’t know. I missed you and Dad and Chris and Mom. I missed my friends, and….I just thought it was time to come back and clear my head.”
“Sounds like you missed being around real love.”
“Yeah,” Lauren replied, thinking of those who truly loved her for everything she was, flaws and all. “I guess so.”
The girls walked down to the edge of the beach, chattering away about everything Lauren had missed. Every story Taylor told filled Lauren’s heart with joy that she had made the trip home, but twisted the knife deeper in her heart knowing she had missed seeing it all in person. She could feel the stress building with every memory shared, rapidly approaching a boiling point. All she wanted was a little smoke to take the edge off, but after the last hour of admiring the smart, athletic, incredible young woman Taylor was becoming, she couldn’t imagine getting stoned in front of her baby sister.
“Tay?”
“Yeah?”
“I know you wanted to hang out but I was wondering if you’d be okay heading home now, and I’ll get an uber a little later?”
“Why?”
“Um, I just – “ Lauren paused, realizing she hadn’t come up with any legitimate reason to send Taylor away. “I wanted to breathe and clear my head for a little while.”
“You’re a terrible liar, you know that?” Taylor giggled. “After all these years you really think I can’t tell?”
“I’m sorry,” Lauren could feel her face flushing bright red as she struggled to find any words. “I – “
“I know you just want to get high.”
“Taylor, that’s not – ”
“It’s fine,” Taylor interrupted. “I’d just rather you not lie to me about it.”
Lauren stood in silence as Taylor turned away and began to climb back up the stairs. Taylor only got three steps up before she turned around.
“Earlier, when you were asking if you were any different, if you’d changed…”
“Yeah?”
“This is different.”
“No it isn’t,” Lauren laughed hesitantly. “This – ” she gestured to the lighter and joint in her hand that she had pulled out of her purse “- has been happening for a long time.”
“I know,” Taylor answered, her face emotionless. “But I also know that isn’t the extent of it. I see the photos, I read the tabloids. I know you’re into the scene or whatever it’s called. I just – ”
“You what?” Lauren asked.
“I just think you might be a little too caught up in it, that’s all.” Taylor finished, then rushed to soften the blow. “But it’s fine, really. All the celebrities do stuff, right?”
“Well, not everyone,” Lauren answered quietly. “But yeah, it is fine. I’m all good.”
“I’ll see you back at home later,” Taylor said, turning to continue the walk back up to the car. “Call me if you need anything.”
Lauren sat down on the sand and began to breathe in the smoke. Somehow, in her favorite place in the world, she had never felt farther away from the real love she so desperately hoped she would find.

TGIWednesday and a download for making it through life's storms
TGIWednesday News
Well I’ve been praying/fishing for over a week to move Hurricane Dorian out to sea and while the Bahamas sadly took a tragic hit, we now know that the worst of it is continuing to stay off the Florida east coast as it moves north. We are continuing to pray for Dorian to have the least amount of damage and loss of life... that's the goal.  But I want to urge you all to Keep the Faith during this weather event or any other kind of "storm" that arises in your life. There will still always be challenges and with these kinds of “life storms” but know that "this too shall pass” as my sweet mom Granny Ruth always says. When you see it coming, statements are of little help.  When you’re moving through a life storm, you are nearly numb on listening to the advice of others.  Once you’re through it however, you can look back and realize on some level it was necessary and maybe it took you out of a greater harms way or was an unanswered prayer that actually allowed your life to turn out even better than hoped for.  Keep the faith! Ok, so... voice back? Check. moving forward with grace and ease? Check. And just in time for tonight's "Turning On Your Youth and Vitality Switch" bonus call happening at 8pm EDT on Zoom conference.  This is a private call for those who have previously purchased the Fountain of Youth MP3. If that's you, then you have received 2 reminder emails and had 2 chances to register and claim your spot on the live call.  Know that the recording will go out to ALL mp3 buyers - regardless of whether you registered to attend LIVE. Now...the good news for the rest of you is that we now know we're able to open up a VERY LIMITED NUMBER of spots for others to join in on this Bonus Clearings call for ONLY $22.    We asked for folks to submit related topics for the clearings call and this is some of what will be covered: hair loss, thinning hair, thicker hair, gray hair, hair patchiness, skin moles, itchy skin, low immunity, sluggishness, fatigue, menopausal weight gain, excess weight, slow metabolism, fatty liver, bone and muscle strengthening, indigestion, digestive irregularity, inflammation, poor sleep. To claim a spot on the call, click this link and it will take you to Calendly where you can select the Sept 4th date and confirm if there's still an open spot. There you will pay $22 via PayPal to receive the direct Zoom call link, confirmation email and reminders & replay.

~  MAKING IT THROUGH LIFE'S STORMS  ~
I believe, think, know and feel that I am capable and well equipped to make it through a life storm. I know, when, where, how and why to go with the flow and to bend like the willow knowing that this too shall pass. I am ready, willing and able to endure any of life’s storms and I know that I will co-create with spirit and that I will prevail. I am asking this in all languages and throughout all time lines and so it is.

Q&A WITH JIMMY... Q)  "I have a question about the session with you for my dog Angel on Saturday. 1. Because this session is for my dog, will I have to act as a surrogate or will I just be on the phone and you work on her as I answer questions, etc.? 2. Will she need to be in the same room with me? 3. I ask the first question because I had previously scheduled some energy work with another healer on myself the day before on Friday. If I will be a surrogate, I just didn't want to overload my system with energetic work and wondered if I should reschedule Angel's appointment, if that's possible. I have muscle tested and get that I'll be OK but wanted to ask you. I tend to take on my daughter, husband and dog's stuff, if you know what I mean." - F. D.  A) "The dog does not have to be in the room. Yes, absolutely, we are going through you to stand and test as surrogate for the dog. I don't care what any other healers have done or will be doing, my stuff is different. It's not like eating a steak and then not swimming for 30 minutes - it has nothing to do with that lol." - Jimmy
