What Each Muse Smells Like (because I'm a weirdo that overthinks this sort of thing)

Buffy: When she was in high school she used to wear those generic "designer" brand spoofs. She still sometimes does but only on special occasions or date nights, but more often than not she smells like her shampoo (some kind of mysterious floral scent that can't be identified but is pleasant nonetheless), deodorant (something basic like powder fresh or just the hopelessly vague "regular"), and mint and baking soda from her toothpaste. She reasons that she's trying not to have a signature scent when she goes hunting, even if it's already in her blood, she figures it better not to add some distinctive perfume as well.

Willow: Sooo...I know by canon she smells like strawberries which. Fine okay (kinda irritates me tho cos there's a part of me that's like, it's cos she's a red head, huh?). But I kinda like the idea that it's that fakey scent of strawberry. That overpoweringly sweet scent from gum or a bag of skittles. She also smells of incense (Dragon's Blood or Sandalwood sticks), coffee, and cheap leather (from the chair set in front of her computer, providing she's been preoccupied with it for one reason or another).

Cordy: She smells like the real versions of the designer imposters that Buffy wore in high school. If you asked her she'd swear she could tell the difference. This is patently untrue. For some time she'd thought Buffy's questionable fashion were due in part to her spending her allowance on Dior and Mugler, a thing that she'd almost found admirable until she learned the truth. After leaving Sunnydale, she could not afford the luxury anymore. Although she eventually shifted to using Bath and Body Works or Victoria's secret body sprays, I can also see her being the type of person who's frugal when it comes to monthly sub services, aside from something like Scentbird. She favours delicate floral scents and the more mysterious ones that smell like nothing but their price tag.

Tara: Having some crunchy hippie tendencies, she tends to smell like patchouli and bonfire. She could be described as smelling like a hearth or well used witch's alter. Dried candle wax, old flowers, incense smoke of so many different scents that they all blended together to become some thing unique and unknowable, and other burnt offerings. She also usually smells like whatever tea she'd made for herself in the mornings. Often Earl Grey or Darjeeling if she's feeling fancy.

Harley: She got in the habit of wearing cheap body sprays with Jay (Joker), the kind of stuff you buy at Walmart or Target that smells of Cotton Candy or Gummie Bears. After she broke up with Jay, she just never got out of the habit. She also smells like gun metal and powder/smoke, blood, and greasepaint depending on her costume, otherwise she just might have the powdery scent of someone who wears a bit too much makeup.

Crowley: Apples, cinnamon, and wood smoke. I actually did look into what snakes smell like because I can't resist adding a new snake aspect to the list. The overall consensus seems to be that snakes don't have much of a natural odor apart from a danger musk, which can vary from species to species but often smells of death. Hard pass, ta. So we went with the other fallback of "Eden Reference lmao". Also may add to that the scent of red wine or smokey sweet whiskey, coffee, and tea and old books if he's been paying a substantial amount of time in a certain bookstore.

Matt: Perhaps the most particular about scents for obvious reasons. Due to particular sensitivities, he rarely wears colonge, though he doesn't necessarily mind it on others. All of his toiletries are made with as few chemicals as possible. He often smells of fresh sweat, blood, the city, and leather.

feel like a loser and a spoiled brat cause i'm so jealous that my friends have gaming consoles [god i want switch so bad] and that they get nice presents and they can afford things ontop of getting expensive presents given to them like

i'm supremely happy for them too it's so cool for them and i'm so glad they get to enjoy drawing and playing games and fancy nice clothes like genuinely it feels so bad to feel jealous because i'm also so genuinely happy for them

but i can't help but kind of hate my life cause we didn't celebrate at all this year, and so my only christmas present this year was a cheap sweater from walmart from my grandma [i'm very glad i got anything though it's warm and i will wear it until it starts fraying and pilling and gets too gross to wear] and cotton candy. And I didn't even get to eat the cotton candy because my nephew took it and my grandma told him he could.. it... literally being half of the only christmas present i got, and he basically went 'well i want it anyway'

last year my only christmas presents were a steam game, and a big bag of doritos my nephew got me. I don't even gets cards or well wishes or 5 dollars or anything anymore really.

You had your Nintendo in hand while silence went through your shared home, you lived in Louisville at the highlands where allot of stuff for tourists to do to keep themselves entertained while they're here, you worked as an Animator for a company in California, so you manly worked online. It was your day off and you were burnt the hell out, so a little you day...Until someone decided to make a loud bang from the basement, you watch the basement door open and turbo came out, he was your childhood obsession, but then he died off once you hit Highschool for grade purpose, but then turned out, he was obsessed with you and assumed you were his best friend ever and successfully go into your world "what was that?" he sat next to you and moved closer to you and leaned his head on your arm, he had messy, black hair and an over sized shirt that you used to own before you caught him sniffing it, so it's his now "I woke up in that cy-bug form, it's so hard to change back" he rubbed his eyes "would you like a cup of coffee, Turbo?" "that would be lovely" you got up and made him a cup of coffee a Disney cup from your senior trip of Highschool,. You walked over to him and hand him the coffee, you turned on the TV and scrolled on YouTube, you see allot of fall tiktok compilation "Turbo, did you get into my YouTube account again?" "no" he took a sip of his coffee and glitched to King Candy, you shrugged and pressed play, you checked the date and it was recent! you pulled out your phone and pulled up Target, Walmart, and Bath & Body Works and their Fall collection has finally came out! you snap your head to Turbo where he happily sip his coffee while having his arm wrapped around his "Turbo!" you excitedly exclaimed, he jumped and turned into his Turbo form "yes,dear?" "how about you come with me for some shopping for fall stuff?" "don't you have allot of fall stuff in the basement?" "yes, but your cotton candy webs got all off them, so they're yours now" he blushed when a couple of glitch effects came out as his over 30 ft cy-bug form burst between the two of you "I guess that's a yes?" "of course!" he yelled as he grabbed your waist and held you tightly.

It took awhile to pry your way out of his grasp and calm his obsessive behavior and went into the car, you drove over to the near by Target and went inside with Turbo next to you, you grabbed the cart and forced Turbo to get in, so you wont lose him. You walked over to the food isle and met with pumpkin spice everything, from Oreo's, to coffee creamer, and pancake flavors. you weren't a psychopath to buy everything that has the work pumpkin, you grabbed a pancake badder box and coffee creamer then went to the home section "cute pillows and decorations!" you pushed the cart towards the decor "how long are we gonna be here?" turbo groaned as he picked under his nail "i'm unsure, how long do you want it to be?" you sarcastically said before giggling "I assume that's your kid?" a random voice piped up, it was a teenager who looked liked about in Middle School, just a group of kids "uh" you and Turbo looked at each other then back to them "no" "young cousin?" "no, dirt bag, they're my lover" Turbos patients is usually very short, but he managed to calm down quick "chill, Turbo" "nice costume, kid, takin' it seriously for your Guardian to call you from the video game that you didn't know when you were born" "excuse me!' he yelled as tiny glitches, he was getting pissed off even more "Turbo, stop. Just ignore them" he growled and sat back down "guys, I assure you that you three also never played Turbo Time too. As someone who played the game and watched the Cartoon adaptation of it as a kid, it quite idiotic of you three" you calmly explained as you turned away and moved to a different section of the area.

"How did you managed to do that so easily?" Turbo said surprisingly "well, there's this thing called, being an adult and though's type of kids are just begging for attention" "oh, har,har,har" turbo sarcastically laughed while crossing his arms. As you both left the store with the bags in hand, you saw the group of kids left the store with nothing, they looked at you two and back to them. You hoped they don't pull out their phones because you know what they mean "Turbo, would you please walk in front of me?" he looked up at you and obeyed you, you looked behind you and they were (It's almost 1am, so my spelling and grammar is getting wonky) you sighed and covered your face and told Turbo to walk a bit faster, he was confused and asking you why, but you just said "don't worry about it" only for him to look over and see them pointing their phones at the two of you "what happens of being an adult?" Turbo asked "adults don't interact with this type of situations, if they are minors" "It's for your own safety, (Y/N)!" "they are going to look back to this and cringe about it and wanting to apologize, Turbo!" "and what if they didn't?" Turbo raised his voice a bit "well, they're going to get they're teeth punched in when they said it or do something to the wrong person" "Hey, pedo-bear!" one of the kids yelled you pushed Turbo to your car, but he had enough. You wanted him not to start a scene and he understands that, but when it's someone that you don't know personalty whose also starting a scene and you just let it happen because your an adult crossed the line! While pushing him to your car, he glitched and turned to a cy-bug that you were familiar with "Turbo, no!" you yelled, he ran towards the three kids in rapid pace "you three really crossed the line this one, (Y/N) might've been less confrontational but I am a whole different person" his face glitched as other customers scrambled to run away from the outside and people from the inside ran away near the exit, obviously immature Middle Schools students didn't take it seriously, he sprout his wings and grabbed the kids before flying up into the sky "Turbo! Stop!" you yelled for him to come back down and have a conversation between them, but he was too far away for him to hear you "Turbo!" you yelled at the top of your lungs, but he still wont hear you.

In the sky, Turbo held one kid with a death grip and held the other kid by his teeth from their shirt, all of them dropped their phones and watched them shatter on the ground from impact "be sure to think before you say anything" he managed to say through gripped teeth.He dropped the kids and watched them fall, they all screamed and you were just in utter distress, you were already traumatized enough when we went into your world along with the cy-bugs just to find you. Before they hit the ground, Turbo grabbed them, but used his arms to hold two and the other to hold by his crab like feet with candy corn stripes "have I made myself clear?" he smiled widely to show his fangs "yes,yes! very much yes!" "good!" he dropped the kids on the ground and went back to you, he was now calm and now he would turn back into his regular form "I think you made your point quite vividly, Turbo" he nodded and went into the car, as you were turning back to see where you are going, you saw the kids parents running up to them, perfect timing. You drove up to the parents "hi, they've been harassing me and my boyfriend around the store. I was wondering if you could do something about that?" "how come you didn't report it to the manager?" the dad asked "I just thought that telling the parents would better" you smiled at the parents warmly "I'm sorry about our kids behavior, we'll do something about that immediately" "okay! thank you" you rolled up your window and drove away, and Turbo watched every last part when the parents ripped them a new one

"So, Bath & Body Works?" Turbo asked "yes! I had this coupon ever since this morning! buy 1 and get 1 free" you smiled as you drove away from Target, Turbo always adore listening to you rant about a topic you would love, even if it's boring. he glitched to King Candy.

Chris Was right beside you as you stopped in front of the freezer aisle, directly in front of the ice cream.

There was what seemed like a million different brands and flavors, way too many but you and Chris were literally willing to stay and scan through Everyone until you found the best one.

"okay, let's see, what ice cream flavor should we get." Chris said walking up to the ice cream. You did the same, getting right up beside him.

"I think I'm going to go with Neapolitan." You started, "but I also think salted caramel is good too." you turned looking at Chris, "which one are you going to get babe?"

Chris eyebrows knitted as he looked at the ice cream in front of him. "I don't know.." he picked up a chocolate chip flavored ice cream; he was staring it down like it was his prey.

"well, let's look through all of these and see which one we like."

You and Chris spent almost 20 minutes searching for ice cream. You would think it'll be easy, but no it wasn't, not for you two.

You both eventually settled on 4 tubs. Salted caramel, mint chocolate chip, cookies dough, and cotton candy.

As you both walked to the cash out, you looked at Chris. "Why did that take us so long?" Chris turned to you, his eyebrows raised as he thought. "I think we're picky." you sighed agreeing. You both were kinda picky.

After going the store, you and Chris went straight home to put your ice cream away. The ride home was filled with lots of 80 music and Chris singing. You just sat there with a smug smile on your face as you watched him basically serenade you. You loved that too.

As soon as Chris pulled into the driveway, you got out grabbed the bag and went inside to put them up. Chris was right behind you with the other bags. As you were tucking the ice cream in the freezer, Chris proposed an idea.

"how about, you and me eat ice cream, pantless, on the floor. What do you say?"

You chuckled closing the fridge, "I say that's a great idea." You walked up to him planting a kiss on his lips. "Let's do it." Chris smiled at you. "Okay."

After a quick shower together, you and Chris went straight to the living room pantless. You had his oversized flannel on and just some panties, while Chris had on just boxers.

While you opened Netflix, Chris grabbed the ice cream for you both and then returned to the living. "I got salted caramel and cotton candy." He sat down beside you on the pillows, handing you the ice cream you got. "We'll try the others later."

He opened the ice cream sticking his spoon in it. You pressed play on Rick and Morty, the show you chose and you and Chris watched it.

The both of you manage to eat the whole tub of ice cream through laughing and watching the show. 3 hours in your head was laying in chris' lap and Dodger head was right near your tummy, snoring away. You were starting to get tired and Chris noticed as he peered down at you.

He ran his hand over your shoulder, "let's go to sleep babe." Chris said pausing the show. You sat up, rubbing your eyes. "This was fun, we should do it again tomorrow." Chris Chuckled, standing up.

"we shall."

You stood up with him, stretching. Dodger got up grabbing his lion, knowing it was bedtime.

"we should do it pantless again." You grabbed your empty ice cream tub to put in the trash. Chris followed you into the kitchen, "we should do it pantless."

After you tossed your trash you turned to him. "Then it's finale, bottomless ice cream tomorrow."

Chris chuckled as you wrapped Your arms around his waist. "Perfect." He gave you a kiss before he looked down at dodger who was nudging his nose into chris' leg.

"okay buddy, let's go to bed." He grabbed your hand dragging you to the bedroom, dodger hot on your tails. You couldn't wait for more bottomless ice cream tomorrow.

Willex + cotten candy :)

"Where the hell did you get that?"

Willie smiles and places the cotton candy machine on top of the Molina's table, taking the plastic wrap off.

"I stole it from Walmart!" They answer, grinning at Alex. "I've always wanted one of these and I finally found one."

"You- stole it from Walmart?"

"Yes. I'm pretty sure you don't wanna know the details."

Alex doesn't, so he just licks his lips and stares at the machine, red plastic with bold letters printed over it.

"And why did you want a cotton candy machine?"

Willie grabs a plastic bag and shakes it, letting a dozen of candy bags fall from it on the table.

"We're making cotton candy, duh!"

Alex fights back a grin.

"I'm pretty sure cotton candy is made from sugar."

"Well, this machine works with actual candy so- get ready."

Alex does want cotton candy -since he can eat now, he's been craving absolutely everything, and he remembers mentioning to Willie that he missed the cotton candy they used to sell by the beach. God he loves him.

"Alright. What do we need?"

The machine comes with these weird, reusable plastic sticks. Alex chooses the pink one and leaves the blue one to Willie, who recieves it with a smile.

They end up using every candy bag they find in the Molina's kitchen, and when those are over, he climbs the stairs and goes through Julie's hidden candy stash that he's not supposed to know about.

The thing is fun, and they laugh while stirring the sticks, trying to form the colorful shapes. Theirs are weird and small and Alex kisses Willie just for a second but the candy gets burnt anyway, and the machine stops working after that.

"Huh," Willie mutters, trying to get the burnt sugar from the machine. "Maybe that's why this thing only costed 20 bucks."

It doesn't matter, because they have enough cotton candy to last for a lifetime. Actually, the whole kitchen is covered in sticks and candy, way more than they can eat.

Alex guesses they'll have to share it with the guys.

They sit on Julie's couch, and Willie grabs a piece of the green cotton candy he made from actual cough drops. (Cough drops, ew) and feeds it to Alex, who's too busy laughing. The sugar melts in his lips.

"You're an idiot," he mutters, trying to clean his mouth. Willie lets out another laugh and kisses him. Their lips taste like a mix of the insane amount of candy they've eaten.

"You love me, though."

"Yeah. But don't give me your disgusting mint flavored monster."

"You're favorite candy flavor is strawberry!" Willie groans.

"What's wrong with strawberry?"

"It's so boring!"

"Shut up."

Willie kisses him again. Alex grins against his lips.

"You know, we probably shouldn't let Reggie eat all this sugar."

There's an excited voice calling from the other side of the house.

So the final cause, if I recall my Aristotle (I was terrible at Aristotelian logic, or at least at what the badly illustrated homeschool textbook said was Aristotelian logic), was that my apartment has been growing irregularly more squalorous for months. Occasionally I would have a bout of energy and put my groceries in the pantry, but for the most part I've been doing well to keep up on the laundry. The proximal cause was... probably the coloring books.

Anyway, this morning I put on pants that were not sweatpants, probably for the first time in months, because going to get vaccinated is a festal occasion and one ought to look one's best. (I put on my cute top with the frilly shoulder straps and the little rosettes, too, since I figured it'd be smart to wear something sleeveless. And my combat boots with the pastel tiedye laces, in case of hiking, which also turned out to be smart. I was decked out.)

So then I went and showed a number of people my ID and my appointment email, and they poked me with a timy needle -- not as small as the one they used in the ER for the insulin that time, I didn't even feel that one, but a very nice thin needle compared to my usual standard of needles, which are the ones they use to try and get blood *out* of you, and often fail when you are me. Then they made me sit down for fifteen minutes in case I took an allergy, and then they gave me a lollipop (I got blue cotton candy, my favorite flavor) and a sticker with a hashtag on it and I left.

Then I got to wend my way back from the place where the vaccinations were happening -- it was a big event on the college campus, since they have a lot of nice big rooms and wide open spaces there -- and it happened I was coming back from a direction I do not usually wend my way from, and I dropped into Michaels. Usually I go to Joann's, because they have fabric, which Michaels doesn't, and Michaels is generally a bit froofier in the sorts of craft supplies they stock at least locally, but the Michaels and the Joann's are right across the street from each other, and I still haven't heard anything about my special order on the floss color that Joann's was out of. Michaels doesn't have the full range of DMC colors, but I took a look and they did in fact have the color I needed.

Then I wandered around some, because Michaels actually does have a bigger yarn selection than Joann's, and I found some Patons Kroy (my absolute favorite sock yarn for feel and texture) in a colorway I didn't loathe, which is *not* something I've been able to find since they stopped making that one colorway with all the orange and black and gray stripes, which I loved dearly and can't remember the name of. So I was like "this will be just the thing for that one lace scarf I was looking at that needs wool yarn in case it has to be blocked to look right", because knitted lace is like that and you can't block acrylic. You can "kill" acrylic but that's different and I'd rather not.

Um. Anyway. Then I wandered around some more, because I get into Michaels so seldom that it's handy to look at what-all they've got while I'm there. Over the past... week or so I have had a sudden bout of wanting to color in coloring books, because that happens to me sometimes; there was an impulse trip to the Walmart way out in the boondocks on the unlit road for Crayola colored pencils, because I decided I was not going to pay eight times as much for Prismacolors.

(The really infuriating thing about coloring books, in my opinion, is that right now you can either find the kiddie newsprint coloring books which are with us always, of course, or you can find "adult coloring books" which are *in-fucking-variably* filled with horses and lions and whales and other large charismatic mammals covered in what look for all the world like quilting patterns. If I wanted to color a rendition of a quilt filled with tiny stripes and polka dots, I'd get some graph paper! And the dots and lines and so forth are so tiny that you can *only* color them with colored pencils, because that's Adulty.)

(Yes, I know they sell coloring pages on Etsy and places. I've been avoiding the print shop for at least a month and a half now, when if I would put the things on my thumb drive and go to it, I could start getting my student loans out of default. I would never wind up printing coloring pages off of Etsy. No, I don't know why. Print shops scare me, perhaps slightly worse than post offices.)

Um. Where was I? So I had gone way far out to the Walmart nobody goes to which therefore often has interesting things in stock, and I had discovered that Crayola still does the glitter crayons I had coveted as a tiny, and they also make double-ended scented markers, which are like the coolest thing ever to the tiny early-nineties child I still am in my heart. So as of this morning, my kitchen counter was completely covered with... things. There was already the sewing machine and the Dr Pepper that doesn't taste like an old shoe, and the peanut butter and the elephant-shaped porcelain wax-warmer, but there had been a narrow slot where I could put a plate and eat my meals -- my only table having been co-opted a year ago by my workstation. Now that slot was filled with various Crayola products and a coloring book with mermaids in it, which at least had a few pages that could be colored partly with markers or crayons, instead of being entirely minced into geometric shapes barely larger than a pencil lead.

SO, what happened after I got vaccinated and found yarn and floss, is that I found out that Crayola still makes the *pearlescent* crayons I coveted even more as a kid. I had gotten one in a little sample pack included with my big 64-box, and it was very precious to me. It's long gone now, of course.

So of course then I bought the pearlescent crayons, and then I bitched at Leia for a while about how I didn't have any coloring books I could use these wonderful crayons *on* unless I wanted to go back to the Lisa Frank newsprint of my youth. (They did actually have Lisa Frank. I strongly considered it. But my tastes have evolved beyond newsprint.)

Then I googled some things, and I found Walmart listing a Crayola mandala coloring book. I went to look for it, and I didn't find it, but I did find a different coloring book with "stained glass" style pictures (sadly not on actual tracing paper, but it occurs to me that if I could source some tracing paper, which it further occurs to me that I haven't seen in years although admittedly I haven't been looking, that I could *trace them* and color them and tape them on my windows like the tacky '90s kid I am), which GLORY HALLELUJAH has spaces big enough to fucking color in!

...Michaels also had neon and metallic Crayola crayons. I might go back. They were 24-packs of each. The single silver and gold crayons from my mom's 64-pack were pretty much only used for Easter eggs in our house, so as not to use them up. I just -- I have a wealth beyond imagining of special effect crayons and markers available to me, and I'm struggling to find anywhere to use them. This seems backwards.

So anyway, then I also found a cute sundress big enough to go over my ass, and then I sat in the furniture section for a while and pondered buying a new table so I wouldn't have to keep stacking coloring books on top of the peanut butter jar in order to eat, and it occurred to me that if I took down my Christmas tree, which I've had up since the Before Times (having gotten it from in fact the same Walmart east of anywhere after all the rest in town were sold out of the particular model), then I would have a space along the back of the kitchen counter where I could hypothetically put a table.

So, because I am a sensible and moderate individual, I bought a thing of string to tie up the Christmas tree branches with, and did not buy a table yet. Then it was time for D&D, so I hurried home and put my vaccination card on the fridge and got into the voice chat and started taking down the Christmas tree.

Then it was five hours later, and I had started konmari-ing the whole apartment in order to have somewhere to store the Christmas tree, and I had discovered that my closet shelf was almost entirely full of empty cardboard boxes, so I had pulled all those out and rifled through them to make sure they didn't contain anything important, and after rescuing three cards from a friend and one glasses chamois, I stuffed most of the boxes in a trash bag, jammed the condensed Christmas tree and all the winter blankets and my air mattress and various other wintry things into the giant box my office chair came in, managed to get that giant box up onto the closet shelf (I have some soreness around my injection site but I honestly don't know if it's a side effect of the vaccination or a pulled muscle from wiggling a very large heavy box into a very tight space over my head), and moved the Goodwill oddities into a midsize box that I think I brought my workstation home in, but they just moved the remaining onsite agents into a much smaller room so I don't think I'm going to be asked to bring my workstation back for a while, and when I do go to bring it back I think the monitors will fit nicely in my washtub.

(I'm giving Goodwill my crockpot. After I forgot the garbanzos in it for three days until the chicken broth started to stink, I decided I am not a person who needs to own a crockpot. Also something like eight skeins of rather ugly yarn because I bought too much for the baby blankets I was making.)

(I'm not sure why I own a washtub. It's bright blue and plastic. It does have a use, which is to hand-wash my weighted blanket in occasionally, as of course you can't put twenty-odd pounds of glass baubles in a washing machine.)

(I certainly did make some life choices that led me here, did I not.)

Annnnyway, so now I have an almost empty three-drawer Rubbermaid dresser, an entirely empty and extremely large Rubbermaid tote (I'm pretty sure I could trap myself in there, but I haven't tried), a mostly empty square ottoman which is also a storage box, and a royal shitton of tiny things like office supplies and party favors that don't *go* anywhere.

"A place for everything" is the really hard part, you know. I achieved it once. Then I moved out of that apartment and have never achieved it again. Once things *have* places, then even if you don't have the spoons to put the peanut butter jar back in the pantry right *now*, you know it has a spot between the Hormel and the Chef Boyardee, and it's way easier than "oh god if I open the pantry there won't be any room and I'll wind up putting the peanut butter under the bathroom sink with the Johnnie Walker Black or maybe over the kitchen sink on top of the Thermacare back wraps."

(You're supposed to store whisky upright in a cool dark place, okay. None of the upper cabinet shelves are tall enough, so I could have put it either directly over the water heater or directly next to the oven. Instead it lurks behind the toilet paper, next to the Clorox wipes and the pre-pandemic Lush bath bomb, which I should... probably use at some point.)

Erm. So then I was pondering what-all storage I would need to source in order to begin having places in which to put things, *findable* places which is the real grail, and -- I think I took a pause to read Dreamwidth and someone linked me a plushie trilobite, okay. I haven't yet entirely decided whether to buy it, but it occurred to me that I definitely have no home for a plushie trilobite, any more than for the amazing Zaeed plushie currently trapped under my cross stitching or the Star Wars Build-a-Bear who was supposed to make Ewok noises until three weeks of freeze-thaw cycle in a malfunctioning package locker did for his electronic squeaker, or the poor American Girl doll languishing inside the ottoman.

So then I was like "we used to have that little net corner hammock for stuffed animals when I was a kid, we never could get it mounted right, but perhaps with fewer cooks that would be a good option". So I googled for one, and all I could find was an assortment of JUMBO five-or-six-foot-long double-deep toy hammocks, obviously necessary to keep your child from drowning in the flood of stuffed animals that have taken over beds in the past thirty years.

(Okay, I was pretty toy-deprived as a kid, the 1980s were not in general what you would call a time of less stuff in American households. Still. I have a twin bed. I can hardly even *find* a toy hammock that wouldn't be bigger than my bed in some dimension.)

So then, it being the aforementioned five hours later with a lot of D&D combined with hard physical labor in the middle, I said to myself, said I, "Hammocks are made out of net, and nets are made out of strings." And by god, if there is one thing I'm better at than another, it is making things out of string. I've never actually gotten around to trying out the whole process of making an actual fisherman's net, which is much more closely related to tatting than to knitting, but I have yarn and most of the possible knitting or crocheting supplies I would need to invent things.

Which, at long last, explains why I have paused to write this halfway through creating a triangular filet crochet toy hammock out of sparkly yellow yarn.

Joann's is having a 50% off sale on plastic storage whatsits tomorrow, but I think I'll probably spend a large part of the day putting office supplies into ziploc bags and hanging them in rows on the wall with pushpins so as to figure out what-all I in fact own.

"I'm fine." 

"You don't look fine."

Michael frowned as he reached out to press the back of his hand to Alex's forehead. They were supposed to be having a Nightmare on Elm Street marathon, but Alex didn't seem totally into it and was speaking even less than usual. His head wasn't extra warm or anything, but he also didn't have the best gauge since he was always hot himself.

"I'm fine," Alex said, swatting him away with a little smile, "Just down." 

"Why?" Michael prodded. They'd spent days, weeks, months trying to fix their communication. It was working and they were officially friends. They spent more time together now than they ever had before and it was honestly some of the best moments he's ever had in his life. He didn't realize that he'd never had a best friend before until Alex filled the slot. It was amazing.

"Nothing in particular, just a part of life," Alex answered, shifting in the sea of blankets they'd acquired. It was getting cold out and they felt it was the perfect time for a couch full of blankets.

"You want me to go get you ice cream?" Michael asked, his hand absently going to push Alex's hair behind his ear. His hair was getting a whole lot longer and Michael would be lying if he said he didn't love it.

Alex leaned into the touched and smiled at him.

"You'd go get me ice cream? At 10 at night?" 

"Walmart's always open," Michael offered. Alex eyed him. 

"I mean... if you're offering."

Michael peeled himself off the couch, slipping his hands into the pockets of his basketball shorts to make sure his wallet was still in place. From above, Alex looked even cuddlier. He was wearing a sweater that was a size too big, the cream colored fabric making his skin glow. His head was tilted back and he was smiling sleepily. The bags under his eyes were still there and his shoulders were still tense from a long day, but he looked lovely.

"I'll be right back."

Michael stood in the ice cream aisle, balancing seven different pints in his arm with a little bit of telekinetic help. He knew what Alex's favorite was (cotton candy because he was a child) but he wanted to give him more of a variety. Then, whatever he didn't want, Michael could store in the freezer for whenever. He was over often enough for that. 

"Why are you at Walmart at almost 11 at night?"

Michael turned his head to see Isobel, still dressed to the nines even with a buggy full of groceries in the middle of the night. She had a knowing smile on her painted lips.

"Alex was having a bad day," Michael answered simply. She smiled broadly.

"Aren't you a good little boyfriend?" she teased and Michael rolled his eyes.

"He's not my boyfriend."

"Right, right, you two just act like a couple and share drinks and snuggle up on the couch and have cuddly sleepovers and basically go on dates," she pointed out. Michael gulped slightly, but shook his head.

"Friends do those things."

"Not friends who are helplessly in love with each other. Me and Liz do those things? Friends. Me and Maria? Banging, hard," she said. Michael screwed up his face and looked at her in disgust. 

"What happened to Valenti?" 

"Oh, he's still in the picture, currently handcuffed to my bed," she answered and Michael felt even more disgusted, "I was just making a valid comparison."

"Jesus Christ, Izzy."

"What? I'm helping." 

"Yeah," he laughed, "Sure."

"Isobel thinks we're dating."

Alex furrowed his eyebrows, taking the pint of ice cream with the sleeves of his sweater pulled over his palms. He hadn't seemed to move from his warm ball of blankets since Michael had left him. He flopped down beside him.

"No," Alex said decidedly, "We'd know if we were dating."

Michael eyed him. He liked the way he ate his ice cream with a fork and the way his eyes closed whenever it touched his tongue. It was so cute he wanted to squeeze him in a hug. It was that overwhelming primal feeling whenever you saw something so adorable you couldn't even process it. You just needed it. 

"That's what I said," Michael said, reaching out mindlessly to push his hair out of his eyes and slightly rubbing against the stubble on his cheek. His facial hair was longer than it'd ever been and Michael had mixed feelings. He'd never really liked facial hair, but on Alex it just sort of worked. He was sort of desperate to see how it felt if they kissed. Would it tickle? Would it itch? Would it burn? 

"I mean… we would know, right?" Alex asked, looking at him with wide eyes. Michael stared back. 

What was he supposed to say?

"Listen, Alex…" Michael said softly. There was a big chance this could go badly. But who would he be if he didn't try? "I… I wouldn't hate it if we were." 

Alex furrowed his eyebrows and then looked down towards his ice cream. Michael waited for the cue to leave.

"If we've been dating, then why haven't I been kissed in months?" Michael's eyes went wide and he huffed a laugh. Alex looked genuinely insulted. "How long have we been dating and you just, like, haven't kissed me? Should I be insulted?"

"No," Michael laughed, feeling lighter than ever, "I didn't know I was allowed to kiss you."

Alex rolled his eyes and then just moved closer, resting his head on Michael's shoulder. It was a line they hadn't really crossed either and it felt exhilarating.

"You better fucking kiss me before you leave then. I'm not about to go, like, six dates without a kiss. That's embarrassing." 

Michael wasn't going to deny him that.

He’s being ushered into the Lee Mansion by two of Yut Lung’s bodyguards. He doesn’t like the feeling, not exactly, of people surrounding him because they think he could just murder Yut Lung at any moment.

Really, all Sing wants to do is pay a visit to someone he would grudgingly consider a friend.

When he walks into the living room, where Yut Lung is comfortably splayed on a large leather armchair, he immediately takes in the scattered bottles of wine, corks strewn across creme cashmere carpets and drops of white wine pooling onto it.

“Jesus Christ,” mutters Sing, and he looks up to see Yut Lung, hair sloppily braided and sweater falling loosely and bunching around his hips.

“Hey,” Yut Lung says, and good god, he reeks of alcohol.

“Are you for real right now? It’s barely eleven o’clock, Lee. It’s not even noon.”

Yut Lung pauses for a moment, probably thinking about how he should be reacting right now, and then he scrunches his eyebrows and folds his arms, lower lip sticking out.

“So?” he asks, tilting his chin upwards, the effect somewhat ruined by his unfocused eyes. They look glazed and vaguely milky, and Sing wonders just how much he’s had to drink, exactly.

He’s not sure he wants to know. He can only hope that someone else had drunk some of the wine that’s on the floor right now, because if he drank all of it by himself, he is drunk out of his mind.

“Jesus. Why do you do this shit?”

His face scrunches even more, eyebrows turning upwards a bit. Is he pissed? Sing can’t even tell, at this point, because his eyes look like they’re about to roll out of their sockets.

“Why don’t you want me to be happy?” Oh. So he is pissed. God, he’s a dramatic bitch. What a goddamn pillow princess.

“You’re so gone, Lee. You don’t know what I want.”

“You’re wrong! I do too know what you want. You want, you want everyone to be happy. Right? Well, too bad! There’s always someone that isn’t happy! Even you can’t make everyone happy. That’s just… what - what was I saying again?” His words have trailed off, tangling in slurred words and stuttering and stumbling over every other sentence.

It’s largely incomprehensible, Sing thinks, whatever had just come out of his mouth, and yet something twists inside him, something that whispers, Hey, he’s not really wrong, is he? And if he can tell when he’s drunk off his ass, who knows who else can tell when they’re sober?

He doesn’t like it, he doesn’t like the twisting in his gut. It makes him shiver, and not in a good way, either - like something cold and slippery is sliding down his throat and settling in the pit of his stomach, heavy like lead and hard like diamonds.

He doesn’t reply, and Yut Lung just starts talking again. “Oh, yeah. I was talking about what you want. Well. You want good food so that you and your little gang are well fed, you want somewhere warm to sleep so that you don’t have to keep freezing with your shitty, low-quality sheets on ten dollar sleeping bags from Walmart. You want - ”

Sing puts his finger to Yut Lung’s lips. “Shh. Just, just shut up, okay? I don’t wanna hear it.”

Yut Lung looks up at him, then, and his eyes look strangely focused, obsidian eyes sharpening for a moment before clouding over again. The clouds look different, though, this time, because instead of a foggy haze, there are scattered streaks of cotton candy in them, soft and untouchable, out of reach and out of mind.

Yut Lung puts his hands on Sing’s chest and pushes him away, because for some reason without him noticing they’ve gotten unreasonably close, close enough so that Sing can hear Yut Lung’s heartbeat and feel his breath on his face.

They look at each other for a little while, silence ringing between them, and then Yut Lung says, “Hm. Maybe I don’t really know what you want after all.” Sing feels heat creeping up his neck and onto his cheeks, because he can’t really be saying what Sing thinks he’s saying, can he?

“Sing, I’m tired,” Yut Lung says, and then flops back down onto his leather armchair with an exaggerated sigh.

“Did you spend all of last night drinking?”

“No,” Yut Lung says, and then after a skeptical pause, adds, “Not all of last night.”

“That’s what I thought.”

Another pause. Breathing.

“Sing?”

“Yes?”

“I’m going to fall asleep now.”

“You do that.”

Silence, more breathing.

“Sing, will you hold me?”

Sing thinks that had he been drinking milk, or something, it would just be another mess on Yut Lung’s carpet, because even though Yut Lung gets drunk a lot, he never says shit like this, and he isn’t quite sure how to react.

“Sing, please? I’m asking nicely.”

“I - I. Okay! Okay, fine. I, I don’t really know how to do this. You’re sitting on a chair meant for one person.”

“So? I’ll just scooch up a little. You’re small. We can fit.”

“Fuck off. I’m taller than you,” Sing grumbles, but moves to sit on the armchair anyway, Yut Lung staying true to his word and shifting a bit to make room for him.

It takes a while for them to find a comfortable position, Sing’s arms getting tangled with Yut Lung’s and his legs trying to stretch into places that aren’t really there, but after a few moments of silent repositioning and careful maneuvers, they finally settle into the cushioning of the armchair, Sing’s arms wrapped around Yut Lung’s body and his breathing finally evening out.

He’s warm, he thinks, and Sing wonders why he’d almost thought he’d be cold, but he isn’t, not at all. Sing thinks that this is kind of what it feels like to hold a hot mug and feel the warmth seep into your skin.

They stay like that for a few moments, and just when Sing is beginning to register that, oh, he’s really sitting here with his arms wrapped around Lee Yut Lung, who is literally about to fall asleep, and then he’s going to be stuck there for the next hour or more, Yut Lung says, “Feel my hair. I conditioned it last night and I need someone to feel how soft it is.”

Sing’s mind goes blank, and he just pats his head uncomfortably, because his hair is still in a braid and he’s not quite sure what to do. “Like this?”

“No! Put your fingers in it.”

“It’s in a braid.”

“Then take it out! It was starting to look bad, anyway.”

“Do I just…?”

“Just take out the ribbon and run your fingers through it.”

Sing slips the red ribbon off, handing it to Yut Lung before turning his attention to his braid, which now seems to be coming undone a little but not enough. Sing tries to put his fingers in the top part of the braid and go down from there, but it stops after a few inches, and that’s not what the plan was. He goes from the bottom, instead, and Yut Lung says, “Yes, like that.”

His hair is like silk, smooth and shining underneath the sunlight streaming in from the tall glass windows, onyx in the sun. It feels so nice, like water, almost, and Sing forgets that he’s literally running his fingers through Yut Lung’s hair, lost in the feeling of it sliding through his fingers and lost in the waves of black tumbling across his shoulders.

“That’s nice,” Yut Lung says quietly, startling Sing out of his reverie, and then his head falls back onto Sing’s chest, his soft snores the only noise in the room.

That is, of course, other than the loud rattling of Sing’s heart in its ribcage.

Brandless shopping list: college edition

Brandless is an online grocery store where everything is organic and only $3. I thought I would compile a list of things I recommend for college students from this awesome online grocery store. This goes great for dorm rooms if you live in an apartment that’s a separate list as you can cook with more appliances. This can also be based on your preference but remember you have to spend $39 to get free shipping or use save5 at checkout.

• candy bundle

• any of their chips, I don’t find any appealing but if you do

• any of their cookies, their names aren’t like the classic Oreos but their there.

• snack bundle, for obvious reasons

• organic cheese square crackers, basically cheese-it’s and who doesn’t like those

• popcorn, they have pre popped bags but if you have a popcorn maker you can buy kernels here for only $3

• oatmeal, they have many different forms just don’t buy steel cut their meant for cooking

• coffee, you might have to buy more to get the same amount as Walmart but hey $3 coffee

• tea (if you like it), I personally recommend sips by if you like tea they send it to you monthly

• mayo or ketchup( mayo I only recommend if you also plan on eating tuna idk bout ketchup but I guess if you use it

• peanut butter, creamy or crunchy your choice

• Wild albacore tuna in water, it does have water that you have to pour out so I don’t recommend if you don’t have a sink in your room

• cleaning supplies bundle, give or take a few things, this can be based on your preference the bundle includes all of their cleaning supplies so if you don’t need granite and stone cleaner remove it from your cart

• dish soap, if you use dishes

• tree free bath tissue, $3 toilet paper need I say more

• hand soap, gotta wash yo hands

• dishes, this store is full of them and their not super expensive($3) but you don’t have to buy them

• biodegradable picnic bundle, paper plates, bowls, and cups and silverware. I think it’s better to throw away this then consistently have to clean dishes

• cotton balls, swabs, or rounds, (whatever you choose)

• any of their beauty products if you want

• pads/tampons only $3

• vitamins, etc.

• desk essentials bundle, cheap school supplies finally

• coasters, to keep drinks from getting condensation everywhere.

17. most frequently worn pair of shoes? Cheap black shoes from walmart. They are really comfortable but nothing special

23. strange habits? I don't know ? NOthing comes to mind right now haha Bringing a book with me at all times?

27. favorite activity to do in cold weather? Staying inside with my blanket, a good book and hot cocoa. I shouldn't be Canadian.... I absolutely hate the cold. Can't stand it

31. what outfit do you wear to kick ass and take names? Oh dear... Hmm power suits? I absolutely love suits. I probably have too many of them tbh

45. which genre: sci-fi, fantasy or superhero? All three? But if I had to pick only one absolutely? Fantasy

47. favorite type of cheese? I don't think I have a favourite type of cheese? I don't eat that much of it tbh

49. what saying or quote do you live by? It's actually a A.A Milne quote from Winnie the Pooh. Please don't judge. My mum surrounded me with Winnie stuff when I was younger. It's " You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." Something I try to remind myself everyday.

51. current stresses? Life hahah Nah but seriously a bunch of little nothings. My flat, I am stressed my grades won'T be good this semester. My car ( which is fine and has been for over a month), my cat having difficulties getting used to the new place... Loads of small little things.

53. what is the current state of your hands? They are clean and I just put lotion on them so they smell like vanilla. B But also A mess? Haha Up until two weeks ago I was working not only a very physical job but also one that messed up my hands. I have cuts everywhere on them and even a new scar cause of it. They will be fine in a week or two :)

55. favorite fairy tale? Oh gosh that is a difficult one.... I would probably go with... The little mermaid tho? But it changes depending my mood

57. the three biggest struggles you’ve overcome? Hmm.... That's a good one. Accepting who I am is one of them for sure. Standing up for myself ( I am better at it but still I could improve). Choosing my health over what I was expecting of myself. OVer my plans when I dropped out of uni

59. if you were a video game character, what would your catchphrase be? :O No idea, I don't feel I have any real catchphrase? I'D probably the sude character who curses a lot tho hahah

61. favorite line you heard from a book/movie/tv show/etc.? Again good one. There's so many. I love quotes. I'll go with... " We accept the love we think we deserve" from Perks of being a wallflower. I mean... It's true. Anyways... In my experience it is. When my self esteem was at its lowest.... I dumped my very good girlfriend cause I thought I didn't deserve her love. That she was too good for me.. To end up with a guy who was a violent narcissistic asshole... I didn't wanna leave him cause I thought that was exactly what I deserved that I could never do better. I did leave him in the end. but yeah...

It almost looks like a star. I have on my lip from when I was learning how to climb table when Mum wasn't looking. One on my finger from work when I was working in dried cranberries factory. One on my ankle from whe I fell in the ditch when learning how to bike without the little wheels. One on my knee cause I am just that talented that I fall over nothing x) A new one on my hand from work... Seriously the list goes on hahha but I do have scars.

67. good luck charms? My necklace. I never take it off unless I absolutely have to. It used to be my mum's but she gave it to me when I was going through a rough patch in high school.

Korres is a Greek brand and I tend to like their shadows. I just have... four or five?? Just like it? Or close enough? $2 - ??? Peachy tan shadow, label has come off. $2 - ??? Pink-rose blush colour sample in mini jar, label has come off.
