-Remember the baby who cried and struggled to survive, thinking it was a boy? Well no, it was a girl.

-The baby survived to Cersei and Robert's peace of mind, both of them finally agreeing on something.

-Cersei had a long list of names, preferably originating from Casterly Rock. Meanwhile, Robert was over the moon. It took about 30 days for him to finally choose a name, Cersei had never been so embarrassed of her lord husband (for the moment).

-The king named her Arya. It turns out that, in those thirty days, he was messaging his lifelong best friend Ned Stark, asking for advice on a good name and how to be a good father. Ned upon reading that the girl was born with black hair like her father and watery eyes (I don't know if Baratheon blue or brown like show! Robert, how do you prefer it?), without hesitation sent him several respectable northern names and one of them was Arya. The king loved it, it sounded like Lyanna. Actually, he planned to call her that but his Lannister wife gave him the most murderous look when he vaguely commented on it, to test the waters.

-Arya Lannister grew up with all the luxuries and attentions of her position. However, the years passed and so did the resentment between Robert and Cersei.

-Arya from an early age, was rebellious. That pleased Cersei, it reminded her of when she was a child, and instead of Tywin forbidding her something, Cersei granted it. So she learned to ride, to train with wooden swords and to know about war strategies. However, Cersei had her limits: like to know how to behave like a lady, to know how to sew perfectly, to present herself with other children of her rank, little things like that.

-Robert loved it, saw the wildness in her blood and imagined that Arya was the daughter he and Lyanna Stark might have had. Arya was teasing, mischievous and enjoyed roaming the halls of the Red Keep.

-Every time Cersei looked at her, she felt a sneer at her strong resemblance to her father. That was when she was about eight to nine years old. Her walk, her tone of voice, her expressions, it was something she couldn't stand. She let him drop out of her "boy" classes despite Robert's protest, following the advice her father Tywin had given her years before.

-"You should act, as well as x lady," "speak as a maiden should," and "is that the best attire you have, call your maids." It was Arya's day to day life.

-But Arya Lannister was proud. When lions do not fight, they hide and continue to fight from another perspective. She ran away, looked for hiding places, begged her father to oppose her mother (unsuccessfully).

To make matters worse, baby Joffrey arrived. He was blond and identical to his mother, to the point that he absorbed all her attention. Arya had annoyed him a little, but then she was glad, she could have more freedom to do what she wanted.

She made all the fuss she could that caught Tywin Lannister's attention. Annoyed, he traveled with Tyrion to reassure his first granddaughter. When it was hinted to become his ward, Cersei's denial was immediate (she knew firsthand her father's cruelty even to his own blood), then, the second idea was for Tyrion to serve as nanny, practically.

The king was amused and agreed to the deal. Not knowing the impact his uncle Tyrion would have on little Arya's life.

Quickly, Tyrion settled in and engaged in wry talks with the young Lannister. They both fled Cersei's wrath, sometimes with her uncle Jaime acting rather strangely around Arya.

When Arya bled, it was the worst day of her life. An ambitious and spiteful Cersei, a cold Tywin and a friendly Robert, were looking to see which would be her best match.

That was when Arya went from being a little girl to being a woman.

thank you for asking this i LOVE talking about my insane shit. ok its super self indulgent be warned and idk how to talk about it because its a mess and extremely disorganised but ill try:

ok backstory. the greyjoys are a mafioso crime family but not in a sexy way in a gross evil way. most of them got caught and locked up when theon was twelve-ish and while asha was emancipated and could look after herself, theon was baby and could not. Barbrey The Lawyer basically thought it would be really funny to dump this freak girlson on the starks as personal revenge and thats how the starks ended up fostering theon. then when theon was like... 19? 20? he had a #mental #breakdown and ran away from winterfell and got caught up with ramsay. barbrey ended up getting him out due to personal beef with ramsay's dad and cos domeric found out and was like What the fuck,. now theon is like 22/23 unemployed but does odd jobs and makes music and pretends he isnt fucked up in the brain

robb is a footballer (football as in european football aka soccer. maybe rugby?). anywa i dont know anything about football. but he does! hes a prodigy hes gonna Go Big and Bring Home Da Gold. robb was like 15/16/17 idk when theon was in his Rough Crowd Era and it fucked him up cos thats his girlfriendbrotherworstie!! now theon is back and they have a very weird very codependant on/off relationship. robb is like 19/20ish

jeyne is a nice girl :) she wants to be a nurse :) she has mommy issues :) after graduating high school she goes on a gap year with her brother and sister and they tour westeros and she meets a cute guy named robb in the riverlands and has a whirlwind one-week holiday romance with him :) but uh oh! guess who has super sperm and got his fling preggers!! robb the idiot :) now she's pregnant and has confirmed all the horrible things her mother says about her :) she has religious issues! she wants to be a mother! she wants to be a An Independent Woman! she doesn't want to leave home! she wants too much and all of it is contradictory! she's not yet 19! she's having the worst year of her life made worse by the father of her child's sort-of boyfriend who sucks but also are they becoming friends?? what???

bonus: asha is sort of dating qarl and tris theyre kinda polycule vibes. she'll introduce tris as her queer platonic squish because she thinks its funny when he does the hide-the-pain-harold face. jon joined the military right out of high school. the only greyjoy asset the state didnt seize is aeron's sex toy shop he used to launder money but they couldnt prove it (he converted it into a restaurant that has non-discriminatory hiring practices for former convicts but the downside is he will proselytise to them.)

You know I see a lot about male fans who hate Dany, Arya, or Sansa and like… where are they? Reddit? I’ve only interfaces with other fans on tumblr and in real life and I’ve never met a male fan who hated any of them. I’ve seen plenty of indifference but the only people I’ve known to hate any of these characters are female. But maybe that’s just because I’m on tumblr, which has a userbase that’s heavily female dominated, and not Reddit, which is more male dominated. But as far as men I’ve spoken to irl? They all prefer Jon, Tyrion, Jaime, and a shocking number of dedicated Oberyn fans, but none that I’ve met actually hate any of these characters. I met a guy who hated Missandei but he was show only and his favorite was TYWIN so 🚩

it's a gramsci quote :D technically it's a loose translation of a gramsci quote filtered through french, from slavoj zizek (whom i have no opinions on other than that i cant listen to him talk.), the original is more literally "The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear." it's about fascist italy in the context of the communist gramsci getting imprisoned by mussolini. i like it on a political level but yes also on like. ok it is complex.... theyre his legal foster parents and they consider him a son but but its distinctly different from the way they consider their biokids their children. and theon was like 12-ish when he got taken in so he already had a solid foundation of personhood, he has a 'real' family (who he has a horrible insane relationship with but theyre still his family!) and his 'im a burden' family that he knows took him in more because theyre kind and good people than because they love him specifically. he grew up feeling like a stray dog that they took in! yes they love him but in a pitiful almost dehumanising way, as if he is a concept rather than a human if that makes sense. because obviously when youre normal people and you wind up with a weirdo abused mafia brat with very obvious gender and sexuality problems tee-em youre gonna treat them with kid gloves like theyre glass like theyre a wounded animal!! idk if this is making sense.

PLUS this is throbb so theon+robb had a very weird brotherly/friendly/boyfriendly relationship which affected nedcat's idea of theon and theon's idea of family. theon more considered nedcat as "my friend robb's parents who i freeload with" as opposed to "my own legal parents who i live with as their son". i think ned and cat considered theon a brother to robb(+ the kids in general) more than a son of them if that makes sense, he's family in a very complicated way. and then here are these boys who THEY see as brothers who are clearly engaging in behaviour that is not brotherly (getting high and jerking each other off) which makes them go all pursed lipped which makes theon think they hate him and think that he's an outsider corrupting their perfect golden boy son

anyway specifically their relationship as adults... when theon turned 18 he was like Ok i will stop being your fucking burden you have to clothe and wash and theyre like cmon theon dont think that we love you. here let us show you that by clothing you and washing you but not hugging you and also pretty obviously disapproving of your relationship with robb. after theon reemerges from his horrible terrible ramsay year from hell they don't really know how to talk to each other. after ramsay, robb and theon sort of became essentially a couple (this post is already long enough i CANNOT go into my insane idea of their relationship basically its complicated) and now ned and cat have to reckon with the fact that throbb isnt just teenage sexual experimentation and it's like a real thing they cant just ignore. also they pay for his therapy but never have conversations with him about his problems(not that theon is like TRYING to or anything lol. he is actively working against it but yknow. complicated).
