Grady Hendrix's BadAsstronauts is a fun little sci-if novella about hope and the unshakable stubbornness of the can-do American spirit.

The characters embody everything there is to love—and hate—about the innate entitlement that’s been instilled in us by generations of promises involving hard work and the American dream. And the mission itself is a creative examination of everything inspiring—and futile—about grassroots movements such as Occupy Wall Street and the possibility of grand results from modest beginnings.

It's not the best thing Hendrix has written, but it's short and fun and chock-full of the exact type of underdog spirit that it's damn hard not to root for.

Looking for a short fun book? Badasstronauts reads like a summary of a low-budget science fiction where rednecks build a rocket to rescue an astronaut from the ISS when NASA writes it off as too expensive.

Can extreme couponing and a flagrant disregard for the law and OSHA safety standards save the day? These rednecks aim to find out!

So I went on a bit of a shopping spree yesterday. We went out of town to visit my fave stores that we don't have here; specifically Five Below, FYE, and Barnes & Noble.

At FYE I bought Taylor Swift's Midnights vinyl album, the Stranger Things tarot deck and Stranger Things season 1 DVD (only $14.99). Also got Happy Death Day and Get Out DVDs that were on sale for $5 each. The mug came from Barnes & Noble and the rainbow pins were at Five Below.

I’ll let ya in on a little secret: the fancy bucket up top is a Chinese TK-1 flight helmet, a copy of the old Soviet GSh-4MS. I wanted to get it, but it’s pretty pricey at $200 shipped and with the neckpiece zipper seriously dinged. Now, watching The Expanse, I noticed something: prop department for that series did splurge for a couple of those things. I spotted Drummer wearing it in season 3, but way back in season 1, Miller and Diego were wearing them too.

Burning Man 2019. You were so good and unpredictable. I played music almost every day, saw parts of the city I haven’t explored before, made new friends and ate amazing food.
