MAN I'm seriously so sad about season 2. Bc I wish act 2 had the same emotional impact on me as it appears to have on so many others. But rn I'm just somewhere between unable to care and actively annoyed by some of those writing decisions. Seriously the more I think about it the less I like it.

The Man Who Made It Home Alive

(In the end, after…. after…. after… everything. And after the everything that came after that everything. The monster he became to make it home alive was still just a man)

When Odysseus left for war his son had been the size of a loaf of bread. A fussy, squirming loaf of bread. A loaf of bread that was greatly displeased to be removed from his father’s arms and wanted the entire dockyard to know it. It had taken every drop of self control he’d had not to snatch him back from Penelope’s arms and declare to the gathered crowd that the prince’s distress at his departure was obviously some kind of sign that the king simply must remain home in Ithaca, hold his son in his arms, and never ever let him go ever. (He was the only one who knew that the look of fond exasperation on Penelope’s face had nothing to do with the squirming baby in her arms and everything to do with the theatrical melodrama she knew was playing out in her ridiculous husband’s ridiculous head.)

Instead… instead Odysseus pulled them both close one more time. He’d tapped his tiny boy’s even tinier little nose and told the lie that would haunt him everyday for the next twenty years. The lie that would haunt him until he drew his final breath and then into the afterlife and beyond.

“I’ll be back before you know to miss me.”

The last time Odysseus saw his son, he was the size of a loaf of bread. An angry, wriggling loaf of bread screaming like he knew his father was being stolen from him.

The next time…

“Hold him down!”

The next time Odysseus would see his son…

“Capture him! He’s our greatest chance!”

“Get off me! Get off me!”

he would see his son forced to his knees…

“Hold him down!”

with one arm twisted behind his back…

“Hold him down!”

and a blade pressed against his throat.

“Got him.”

Game idea

Have music tempo represent health. It would work well with games that takes a while to loose like Sea of Thieves and FTL. At first you get a slow tempo like Deltarune music Scarlet Forest. As your health drops, the tempo increases to something like Field of Hopes and Dreams, and eventually The World Revolving.

I just found a draft of a WIP I totally forgot I was writing when I was a teenager and it is digging its claws into me

This book is really barely more than Strong Vibes but it had a character that was raised in a more intense and even more soulless version of the peacekeepers in Farscape, like military society, kids trained from basically birth, don’t know their families, but now with Even More Brainwashing and Creepy Cultlike Stuff.

Character doesn’t even have a name or permanent numerical designation, the absolutely only identifying thing they have is a chip in their wrist that is only readable by computers and is used when assigning missions. On every mission you get a different designation number or code name. They are stripped SO completely of any sense of identity.

Character never been on a planet, never even was taught about planets in schooling or taught what a family is or anything even academically. Has no concept of gender because reproduction is completely done in a lab and no biology of any type is ever taught to the grunt soldiers.

Additionally: never heard music.

Turns out they are an absolute musical prodigy the SECOND they are introduced to music

Like off the charts August rush nonsense.

Then proceeds to have crisis after crisis about that because if I wasn’t taught this then it must be heresy, but how could anything so perfect and beautiful not be from god
