the thing about bad buddy is that calling it enemies to lovers is not entirely wrong and is a very succinct and easy way to indicate the general plot, but also one of the only moments that the two main characters are actually personally in conflict with each other lasts about four minutes and is expressed mainly through upset shirtless xylophone playing contrasted with a montage of happy moments that features a time there was triumphant shirt-wearing xylophone playing. and then they both say sorry at literally the exact same time

Going into this, he'd never thought it was a brilliant plan - he was desperate, not an idiot - but he'd still thought a lifetime wrangling his kid brothers, not to mention Caleb and Kaylee, would've proven practice enough to survive any measure of buffoonery.

As he slammed the door to the cellblock open, a headache pounding behind his eyes and his pulse racing in this throat, he finally accepted how very, very wrong he'd been.

In a perfectly flat, droning tone of voice, the one continued his endless song, somehow managing to project his voice like a carnival barker without letting even a shred of emotion into it: "EIGHTY-THREE BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL, EIGHTY-THREE BOTTLES OF BEER, YOU TAKE ONE DOWN, PASS IT AROUND, EIGHTY-TWO BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL..." And that would've been bad enough on its own, it really would've, only the other one had found something in his cell that was hard enough to ring out like a goddamn xylophone as he beat it - completely without rhythm - as his idiot buddy continued to sing.

"I will kill you," Travis hissed, stopping outside the first cell to point a menacing finger at the Washington kid, his nostrils and temper flaring, "that's not a threat, buster, that's a guaran-goddamn-fucking-tee."

"No you won't," he quipped right back cool as you please, then leveled his gaze directly at him and continued at the top of his lungs, "EIGHTY-TWO BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL..."

Thai QL Favorites Tag Game

Favorite Thai QL - favorite show is a very close tie between Moonlight Chicken and Bad Buddy. I love them both most ardently. I suppose we'll go with Bad Buddy, depending on the definition of QL, but I am back in my Moonlight Chicken feels these days and it is an all time favorite show

Favorite Pairing - I think I have to say Pat and Pran, their dynamic is incredible, they're funny, they're heartbreaking, I love how they get each other

Most Underrated Actor - none of the women get enough recognition. Right now I have been loving Mild, View, and Fah's acting. (also not saying he's underrated at all but I think people underestimate Earth as a comedic actor, and I am once again asking people to watch Mama Gogo, which has another of my favorite actresses, Cris)

Favorite Character - Wen is everything to me (surprising no one)

Favorite Side Character - I love Pa from BBS so much (favorite if I'm not limited to Thailand is Hashimoto from Kieta Hatsukoi, she's one of the best friends in a QL period) (also really enjoying the uncles in My Ride)

Favorite Scene - Moonlight Chicken episode 6 part 1 Jim and Wen talking at the harbour. It is such a beautiful shot scene, it's the scene where they start to really understand each other and take a step forward, and talk through the barriers in their relationship but connect over their shared sense of loneliness.

A close second is the My School President episode 11 scene on the mountain where the friends get mad at each other and frustrated by their loss but work through it together with so much care. Also have to shoutout Bad Buddy and Pat playing the xylophone, the raw emotion behind it really gets me. Also the scene in Not Me where Black comes back and tricks Sean wrecked me, the acting was so good. Also----

Favorite Line - A lot of Moonlight Chicken lines ring through my head constantly, but probably "I can live anywhere, but it's damn lonely."

Most Anticipated - looking forward to OF of course but really really really excited for 23.5 now that they've started posting about it. I can't wait to see more queer female characters on these shows

Healthiest Relationship - Tinn and Gun? Pat and Pran? I like how they work through things together

Most Toxic Relationship - there are many, but I'm reinterpreting this as a relationship that I actually care about and like, which is Alan and Wen. They are obviously not suited, but I think what we see of their relationship is so fascinating, exploring the pain of one person falling out of love, and the desperation and loneliness inherent in their messy situation

Guilty Pleasure - maybe Tonhon Chonlatee, which, for all its many problems, was a mostly quite enjoyable watch mainly because of Khaotung and Neo's characters

Most Underrated - He's Coming to Me, historically quite underrated but I'm seeing a lot more love for it here recently which is wonderful. If I can talk about shows outside of Thai QL, I would love to see more people watching/talking about Mama Gogo, Kieta Hatsukoi, and My Tooth, Your Love

No. No. NO. This can not be happening. The one thing I was most afraid of. The dreaded cliffhanger (quite literal in this case). I'm going through the 5 stages of BL grief help. And I've already reached de Nile T~T

When i first realized that Bad Buddy and ATOTS would air back-to-back, I had an inkling that something like this might happen. Because it's P'Aof. But now my brain is this close to 'killstabrip rinse and repeat' mode.

I was thinking of not watching today's episode because of the exam tomorrow, and for once, i regret not listening to the logical part of my brain.

Anyways what's done is done.

Let's move on.

I loved today's episode, and *maybe* Our Skyy has made me like ATOTS more than i originally did so bonus.

I have a lot of favourite scenes from today.

The waterfall scene where they play in the water. It's a throwback to the beach scenes from BBS. I like the similarities; in the beach, they'd escaped from their friends and family and really enjoyed themselves with each other for the first time, when their love was just starting to bloom. Here, they are already very much in love and in a secure relationship, but it's also away from their friends, a small haven just for themselves. They still enjoy each other's company and playing with each other. The ost song plays in the background, but the lines that are highlighted are "I hope you are not bored; Looking at this same old face." which just emphasizes the point that their love is still going strong.

The sleeping together scene – after the mosquito net kiss (still smiling from that) – loved the short tickling moment because it reminded me so much of the BTS of when Pat hugs Pran from behind as he plays the Thai xylophone and in real life, Nanon is trying so hard to not laugh. Loved even more the "You're an Architecture student, right? Haven't you wondered how much shaking this house can withstand?". We all know what that meant, right? (If you don't, it's nothing sweetie, just boring old people stuff. Be a child as long as you can.) Pran's reaction cracked me up but also made me want to wrap them both up in a blanket and hug them. Yeah, I'm weird like that. Also, Pran's "No, i don't want to know. I'm not curious." – of course you don't want to know, Pran, of course.

I love that they managed to fit in a song by Nanon. It was a pretty good song, too. I also really liked how fast Pran's expressions changed when Pat arrived. Saying this for probably the millionth time, but Nanon is an amazing (Off Jumpol's voice) actor.

The Pat and Hona (Chief) waking up shirtless together scene. It. Was. Hilarious. I am never ever forgetting it. Them being like: my boyfriend is going to kill me. And yeah, they probably would if they came to know. I liked the reference to PatPran ep 11 when Pran asked how many points he got out of 10. And Pat realizing it's not his faen just by the hand made me a little soft. Also liked the reference to the rangers' t-shirt that Hona had first offered to Tian. Though the first thing that came to mind after seeing it was "Tian and Pran are going to be so jealous when they (mis)understand what the t-shirt means". Ya'll have ruined my innocence so you need to suffer too.

The watch made a comeback! So happy. I really wanna know how Pran will react when Pat gives back the watch. I have a hunch to what Pat will say when he does.

As for the preview, I'm happy (and a teeny tiny bit skeptical) about Hona & Pat's and Tian & Pran's growing friendship.

#1. Everyday – Buddy Holly and The Crickets

Overview:

This one made the list not because it is a sad song in itself, but at the time hearing it was still causing me sadness. It was THE song of season 2 and, according to The Quite Nice and Fairly Accurate Good Omens Script Book, was intended to be featured in season 1. So I thought it was an appropriate way to kick things off. Not really sad, except to a specific set of people, but good to put the listener in the mood for what’s coming up.

One delightful thing about this song is the instrument featured: the celesta. The instrument is essentially a xylophone played like a piano. Simple celestial melodies to make you think of an angel and a demon who just might like one another’s company, but don’t want to say it out loud. While this song is really Gabriel and Beelzebub’s song, I’ll be analyzing the lyrics as they apply to Aziraphale and Crowley.

Lyrics:

Everyday it’s a-gettin’ closer Going faster than a rollercoaster Love like yours will surely come my way.

We all know Aziraphale isn’t about speed. He drives slowly, walks casually, savors his desserts. I don’t think he would enjoy a rollercoaster. “You go too fast for me, Crowley.” While I don’t think that line was intended literally, but metaphorically for the danger Crowley puts himself in, it still communicates to us the fact that Aziraphale wasn’t capable – at the time he said it – of accepting the emotional weight his feelings carried. But maybe one day.

Every day, it's a-getting faster Everyone said, "Go ahead and ask her," Love like yours will surely come my way.

“Everyone” in this case is mostly Nina and Maggie, but also everyone else who can clearly see what these two refuse to acknowledge openly. Even Gabriel and Beelzebub who have now set the precedent. Crowley heard, “You know he likes you back, right?” and, despite all the things he’s been told over the millennia – “You, I’m afraid, are evil” “We are hereditary enemies” “We have nothing in common” “You’re the bad guys” – he is ever the optimist and decided to take the chance. Because surely Aziraphale will return those affections.

Every day seems a little longer Every way, love's a little stronger

When you’re waiting for something specific, doesn’t it seem like you can’t get through the days fast enough? Like each day that ticks by, even each minute feels exponentially longer? The anticipation and the emotions can grow stronger into something overwhelming.

Come what may, Do you ever long for true love from me

In the future, irrespective of circumstance or consequence, is it even a possibility? Would you ever want this love I carry for you? I think both of them ask this of the other in their own minds.

Unrelated, but I wrote some of my own Trans Seinfeld content.

The gang learns about neo pronouns.

G: What's with all these new pronouns? What's the problem with the ones we've got, huh? She/her, he/him, clear as day! Now there's they/them? Hm! Ridiculous!

J: Y'know George, I've been thinking of trying out a new pronoun or two.

G: (throws arms in the air) Now you're just messing with me.

J: (jokingly) No, not at all! He/him? So last season, so blasé! I'm gonna spice things up.

K: Oh yeah! I've heard they've got some that start with "x"! They're called...Neo...Pronouns (excited thumbs up)

G: X? Huh. That sounds kinda interesting actually. I might try it out myself...

J: (scoff) you, an "x" pronoun? Please. You couldn't pull it off.

G: What?? I could pull it off! Watch!

J: Yeah sure.

(Later, George walks in disheveled/depressed)

J: So, how's it going, Mr. X?

G: I don't want to talk about it.

K: Oh come on, how bad could it have been?

G: Alright fine. Well I looked up those neopronouns Kramer was yammering about. (start flashback) I wrote it down on a nametag and decided to do some grocery shopping. And when someone pointed it out, they asked...oh god Jerry, they asked me how to pronounce it! (end flashback)

J: Well? What did you say?

G: I froze! I froze Jerry, I froze! What words even start with X?! All I could think of was X-ray!! How am I even supposed to pronounce X-E or X-I-R?!

K: Zee/Zir, like xylophone.

G: ...Are you kidding me?!

More pronoun stuff, not necessarily related.

Kramer slides into the apartment, full of himself.

J: alright, I'll bite, what's with the trench coat, Columbo?

K: I'm selling pronouns now.

E: you're selling pronouns?

K: I tell ya, there's lots of money in selling pronouns!

J: how are you even selling pronouns??

K: I just pull up to some guy in the park, whisper "psst, hey, needa pronoun?" whip open my trench coat like this.

E: I'm sure they love that.

J: What do I need new pronouns for anyway?

K: gah, he/him is so boring though! It's an amateur noun now buddy, you need a real PRO noun. Get yourself something really fancy for a special occasion!

E: fine, let's say I want one, whaddya got?

(Jerry and Elaine alternate) "Shi/hur"? "Ho/hum"?? "Ley/Lem"???

J: What even are these??

K: oh they're counterfeit

J: they're counterfeit?! How are you selling *counterfeit* pronouns?!

K: well I can't go using the real ones or Big Gender will come after me! I gotta make them up!

J: they're ALL made up! That's how language works dummy!

K: well that's not my fault!

E: and this one! How do you even pronounce it?

K: (click)/(whistle)

george forgets which neopronouns his partner uses. elaine starts dating a guy with her birthname, and discovers his birthname is elaine. jerry takes newman’s comment that he isnt “really” butch because he uses bath salts to heart. an ominous horoscope drives kramer to audition for rupaul’s drag race.

BAD BUDDY EPISODE 8 – AN ANALYSIS OF WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

Credit to Director Backaof and the screenwriters…  Not much screentime available before they had to launch P+P into the swirling maelstrom of hate emanating from their respective factions and families, but we still get to see real growth between Pat and Pran, especially in this episode.

The starting scene of Episode 8, with Pran waking up in a panic and mistaking the smell of Pat’s cooking for a fire, is almost a direct replay of the start of Episode 5, right down to the same joke they tell about fire spreading from one residence to the other – except that the roles and lines are neatly reversed. 

I didn’t notice it before, but this was basically the director and screenwriters signalling to us to expect more of PatPran switching things up later in Episode 8…

Previously Pat was always the manly pursuer and Pran the feisty object of affection, fighting off the attention and inwardly fighting his own feelings.  It would have been all too easy to paint these two characters with the usual broad BL brushstrokes, with Pat the taller, athletic, masculine princeling and Pran all frosty and distant, rendered in delicate shades of ice princess.  We’re fortunate the team subverts this stereotype of masculine top dog and his tropey wife (sorry, couldn't resist 😂) whenever they get the chance.  So we have rugby-playing Pat matched by rugby-playing Pran (Ep.4 [4/4]) – but Pat plays because it’s what is expected of him (Ep.7 [1l4] 12.16), while he's really still just a big kid at heart who needs to cuddle his Nong Nao to fall asleep (Ep.4 [4/4] 11.30).  

He’s also skipping rugby for MUSICAL THEATER, haha.  Then, in scenes of them rough-housing, Pran usually ends up on top, often with the upper (tickling) hand (and Pat always has to yield first – see Ep.2 [4/4] 11.25 and Ep.7 [2/4] 9.41 – Pat actually goes ��Okay. I surrender!”). The Ketchup Kiss (Ep.8 [1I4] 3.52) is also an example of Pran taking control. 😊

It’s also not insignificant that Ep.8 [1/4] starts with a moment of chaos in Pran’s room, with the burning sausage (let’s not get too Freudian here 😂) and the previously-bare headboard of the bed now messy with random sticky notes and photos of the two of them, all askew. Pran’s usually ordered world is beginning to loosen up a little, and Pran himself does too.  

While he’s still communicating his feelings for Pat with doodles and sticky notes at Ep.8 [2/4] 5.09 to 6.26, by the end of Ep.8 [4/4] he’s grown in confidence enough to match his actions (and signs and symbols) with words spoken.

At first I thought it was Pat who took the initial steps at next-level communication, in terms that would be more familiar to Pran. He began to communicate at a more heartfelt level, in a way that Pran would understand best (possibly learning from all the smiley faces and YES the toilet paper at Ep.8 [2/4] 5.54) when he got a new earphone case for Pran at Ep.8 [3I4] 7.59. 

The case has a double P on it (not obvious at first sight, standing for Pat + Pran) that Pran sees immediately (and delightedly), but that Pat denies being aware of (unconvincingly – his smile at Ep.8 [3I4] 8.36 shows he’s only pretending, and Pran knows this). Of course the bag that Pran’s always carrying has a double P on it that reads like a single P at first glance, and it’s been in every episode so far (Ep.1 [3I4] 7.00, Ep.2 [1I4] 3.01, Ep.3 [1I4] 10.03, Ep.4 [1I4] 11.02, Ep.5   [1I4] 3.26, Ep.6 [2/4] 1.44, Ep.7 [3I4] 2.48), and Ep.8 [1I4] 4.36).

The bag, with its smaller P nestled within a larger P, is Pran silently telling the world about his feelings for Pat, and the earphone case is Pat echoing the messaging Pran sends out with his bag – here Pat is trying to communicate his love to Pran (acknowledging their relationship) using visual metaphors only, a language that Pran understands well. But just before that, it was Pran stepping up, reaching out with a phone call, initiating a conversation across their balconies (instead of Pat), suggesting a virtual hug, and cheering Pat up with his mimed elevator and escalator antics. 

The virtual hug and the miming were just the sort of physical goofballery Pat is known for (see Ep.3 [2/4] 3.25 and Ep.3 [3I4] 8.40 for just a couple of examples), so this shows it was Pran who came out of his shell first -- growth goals! -- instead of Pat, to try communicating in the language of the other.

And Pat always sleeveless or shirtless – yes, it’s an opportunity to attract more eyeballs with Ohm’s physique, and they do capitalize on it (not that I’m complaining).  But it’s also a signal that Pat is usually the one who’s always open to the world with nothing to hide, not all buttoned-up the way Pran is (or was) with his long sleeves, tightly-scheduled morning routine (Ep.2 [1I4] beginning at 1.18) and his meticulously-arranged coloring kit (Ep.1 [1I4] 2.06).  

After their fight backstage we get to see (at Ep.8 [4/4] 3:00) Pat bare, elemental, alone and naked on stage (well, as close to naked as TV honchos and the storyline will allow), then hammering out his naked emotions, vulnerable and raw, on the Thai ranat ek at Ep.8 [4/4] 3:54 – this time it’s Pat who’s wordlessly sounding out to the world how he feels, instead of Pran.  

Whether he knows it or not, he’s speaking Pran’s language, and Pran gets the message IMMEDIATELY (remember in Ep.8 [2/4] 10.03 Pran as Kwan says “Only music is genuine and never deceives me”) – and after the performance Pran shows his growth and approaches Pat to apologize backstage.  

We then see each shifting even MORE across the line previously drawn so hard on the ground between them...  Pat who’s always been an open (Instagram Story) book agrees with Pran’s “Just because I’m not telling people doesn’t mean I don’t like you” (at Ep.8 [4/4] 7:20) and then says he won’t post any more signs of their relationship online.  But Pran then tells him to continue posting, even though it makes him uncomfortable – before FINALLY admitting “I’m your boyfriend” at Ep.8 [4/4] 7:50.  It’s the first time he’s acknowledged it out loud, properly in the affirmative, which is a big step for him – so no wonder Pat is visibly moved at Ep.8 [4/4] 8:02.

TLDR… ;) By the end of Episode 8, both Pat and Pran were trying to speak in each other’s love language (Pran declaring “I’m your boyfriend” for the first time ever at Ep.8 [4/4] 7:50, and Pat allowing his emotions to be felt first by Pran, rather than just blurting them out at Ep.8 [4/4] 3:54).  There’s something in this for followers of both camps (whether you speak your love out loud or let it simmer unseen).  Both Pat and Pran have grown in the short time since they got together as a couple.  It’s beautifully handled, and OhmNanon do the scenes and script justice in taking PatPran to a deeper, more meaningful level in their relationship.  💖💖💖

the line from the preview Pran says that’s like “you and i are both tight-lipped, we’ll never reveal our feelings unless pushed to” is so funny to me coming hot off the heels of an entire episode of Pat going “hey i wanna talk about our feelings why are you avoiding me i want to talk to you lets talk about our feelings why won’t you let me talk about my feelings”

when i say that pat is "pure of heart, dumb of ass" i don't mean he's dumb. he can actually be pretty smart and perceptive! he just has a heart full of love and it makes him do silly things.

like when a person he loves dearly isolates himself and puts up walls, pat tries his best to break through those walls - and in the process just completely antagonizes this person's friends.

he figures out a way to help this person with a major issue they are having - and the way he lets him know is by throwing a paper airplane at him, making him shout in exasparation in the library.

he helps this person get inspiration when stuck on a project by playing pretend and acting cute and fooling around.

and when this person is upset, pat is not afraid to jump and dance around and be silly and weird in public to cheer him up and get his mind off things.

he's smart enough to be pran's academic rival, he's good at solving problems and thinking on his feet, and he is quite emotionally intelligent. but he also has a simple, one-track mind: he just wants pran to smile and laugh and be happy and feel loved and he wants to tease him too, and as long as he can do that, he doesn't feel the need to care about other people or the consequences of his actions.
