Welcome to Albion Zoo

Albion Zoo is a new zoo that I have started on Planet Zoo. This is the first zoo that I am putting care and effort into to make it look nice and actually look like a proper zoo. I have semi-completed the first area and ready to share some screenshots!

About the Zoo Albion Zoo aim is to help endanged animals and promote their wellbeing. The zoo also aims to be able to educate the public on what will help these animals in the wild.

Asian Area

The Asian area is semi completed- with some details needed. The animals in this area are:

Giant Panda

Red Pandas

Bactrian Camels

Siberian Tigers

Gharial

Giant Panda

Near the Entrance of the Asian Area, we have the Giant Pandas. Giant Pandas are vulnerable animals that live in the mountains of central China.  The feed exclusively on bamboo and therefore this is needed for their survival. 

Red Pandas

Red Pandas are the next in the park. Red Pandas are also endangered species. They live in the woodlands of the Himlayas but also live in other regions of China. Like the Giant Panda, there diet mostly consists of bamboo. However, even though they have similar names the Red Panda is not closely related to the giant Panda. 

Bactrian Camels

Now if you follow the path, we will come across the Bactrian Camels. Unlike the animals mentioned previously, the Bactrian Camels are not actually endangered. However, Albion Royal Zoo was gifted the two camels when it opened. The Bactrian Camel is a domestic camel and lives in Central Asia. The male camel is a much larger camel than the female counterparts. 

Siberian Tigers

The Siberian Tiger is the next on the Asian path. The Siberian tiger is an endangered tiger, and it one of the largest species of big cat. They are also known as the Amur Tiger. 

Gharial

Finally we have the Gharial. They are a critically endangered species of crocodile. They are native to the Indian rivers but with the dwindling population they are mostly found in four stretches of the rivers in Nepal and North India. The Gharial is critically endangered due to the growing pollution in India’s rivers, that kill the fish that the Gharial hunts.  The Gharial mostly lives under the water, so Albion Royal Zoo created an underwater viewing area to see these creatures in their natural habitat.

Sound on👂 We have been working with everything from chickens to chimpanzees this week, but how about another camel clip? Especially when they are (and we are) clearly having too much fun training them to recall. Quick response to the cue is part of the criteria when we train the recall. We start this by setting them up so they will likely give quick response so that we can reinforce this response, along with the action of coming to the trainer paired with the chosen signal. Looks like some of them are getting the idea. We have more work to go on this behavior. I've been feeling a bit under the weather this week.🤒 I think I might have caught something last weekend. I managed to finish up this Bactrian camel though. Who else like camels?🐫🙋🏻‍♀️ 🌱 The wild Bactrian camel (Camelus ferus) is a Critically Endangered species and is a separate species from the domesticated Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus). They are adapted to living in the harsh conditions of the Gobi Desert and are the only land mammals able to survive on brackish or salty water. Only about 1400 wild Bactrian camels survive today and threats they face include hunting, habitat loss, and competition for resources with introduced livestock. 🌱 This guy will be part of my endangered species shop update. This is one of my favourite boxes that we have had come into the store recently. It is Chinese in its origins and is topped with a bone carving of a pair of Bactrian camels. The exterior has had a design worked into its surface which has been overlaid with a bright yellow enamel, the box opens to reveal an interior lined in a soft blue.
