This privately owned aviation hangar in Midland, Texas was a design-build collaboration between Parkhill and Teinert Construction.

Exterior materials such as limestone, black metal panels, and horizontal glazed clay units were selected to create a textural experience that provides a background for the native, drought tolerant landscape.

Inside, it features a warm and inviting lounge, an extension of the family’s private residence, while extending a corporate executive aesthetic. The natural walnut, leather and velvet contrast the utilitarian hangar volume. The stark wall finishes showcase commissioned art selected by the family to convey the enjoyment of travel and wonder.

I finally took some time to return to the Rothko Chapel; I had planned to meditate inside like on that day with Steven.

I haven't even made it out of my car. I turned past the restaurant we ate at with all the people in backpatio space with the lights and his cocktail....I felt a pull at my stomach. I continued past the community garden that we looked at, and felt many conflicting emotions rising. And parking outside the Chapel had it all crest into tears.

That day remains one of my favorites with him. A favorite day of my whole life, too.

I didn't lose him that stupid night I voiced my stupid anxieties using only my stupid words (and none of my good ones) -- but being back in the space of those priceless memories has me scared of how reckless I can be. For all my caution and holding back. I can't believe I'd ever want to drive away the person who walked with me hand in hand on that beautiful, perfect day. The galleries and the pieces and the people on blankets with their kids and their dogs and our collective enjoyment of the mild weather.

I want to venture into the Rothko space but I might start crying again. I remember him in his all-black outfit, sitting in front of the greenery with me on the bench at a corner of the space. The pool. The kids and dogs (it's always the kids and dogs) playing with the water and sometimes entering it completely.

He's given me so much.

I've been touched so many times by how beautiful he is and how much he's proven to me and shown me.

How could I have pushed him away?
