Is there a Skam character you surprised yourself that you liked? Like you had no hopes for and they became a fave? I feel that way with Basile 😂

Ohhhh this is a question!

I think I have a couple for VERY different reasons and I’ll choose Edoardo, Basile and Sander!

I’m choosing Sander simply because even though I love all of the Evens with my whole heart, I hadn’t seen much of wtfock and always intended to watch eventually but I was thinking “oh god he’s potentially the last and I don’t know this remake as well as the other yet and oh god what happens if one Even isn’t as great as the others” and then SANDER MF DRIESEN. Honestly, to me, he’s one of the most enigmatic, brilliant, well rounded, fascinating, intriguing, loveable characters in the entire SCU. I adore the kid. Willem DS is such a bloody wonderful young actor and I am stunned when I see when a moment of Sander because he’s such a CHARACTER, you know? I feel like I really know him and have this strong sense of who he is and I feel so much for him. I adored getting to know him and sharing his experiences with him and he is one of the SCU characters who got the most emotion out of me and continues to... even on rewatches. So yeah. For how much I wasn’t expecting to love a character but then they grew to become a favourite... he takes that title!

Basile Savary. He’s the ultimate answer to this question hahaha. I honestly couldn’t handle him for a second at the start. I think it’s why, sometimes, Skam Fr is an acquired taste. It is SO FAR AWAY from the stripped back realism of the original and I’ve always said it’s way more cinematic and sitcom-esque but I love the remakes for their distinct styles so it doesn’t bother me but Basile was ALWAYS the one who took me out of the moment and felt too ott, he felt like a characture when that’s not the point of Skam... and then he developed a personality that was emotional and real and he showed depth and, honestly, it’s been a joy because I’ve done a full 180. I couldn’t bare to watch him before and now I genuinely laugh with/at him and root for him and one of my favourite scenes so far has been his moment with Arthur. So yeah, Basile, kid, you worked your way into my heart!

And lastly, I’d say Edoardo and I’d add Senne here too. NEVER DID I EVER IN A MILLION YEARS EXPECT TO LIKE A WILLIAM REMAKE. Good lord. I despise the original William. Season 2 of the original mainly makes me want to rip my hair out. But these two, I love. They both feel very different to William, both have the same enigmatic, bold feel to them that the character had to have but they’re also gentle and have depth and personality (!) and the changes both remakes did to the character (albeit subtle in many ways) made an enormous difference. Edo and his curls, his singing and his snappy jokes, the way his eyes tell genuine stories (props to Giancarlo, honestly), he’s vulnerable too in a way I didn’t expect while also being true to himself, fights for people (without the whole ‘violence is necessary Noora’ bs) and has this true romantic personality. Senne is similar in many ways as he also had this lovely depth, he has a warmth that William never had, he’s such a dad, he’s got this very endearing and solid quality about him too that makes you feel comfortable around him... which god, William never had to me.

So yes! They are my 3/4 choices. They’re all different and the reasoning behind them is different but they’re the ones who came to mind straight away 😊
