Alright, here we go again. Let's talk about a mere mortal beating up a god and how "it was done before.” No, it was not.
1. In God of War, we have a demigod, the son of Zeus, who defeated a god with the help of an artifact explicitly stated in-game to be capable of defeating a god. This is acceptable within the game's narrative and does not undermine the world-building.
2. In Percy Jackson, we have a demigod, the son of Poseidon, who defeats a god (literally just wounds him once, which is enough because they have an agreement) by using his domain to his advantage. The god really underestimated his enemy and wasn't ready for this. However, Percy would have died quickly if it had been a real fight against Ares. So this is still logical within the plot's framework.
3. In Blood of Zeus, Zeus dies, yes, but he sacrifices himself willingly in a fight against a titan, an opponent equal to or even more powerful than him. Additionally, a mortal with titan-level powers wounds Hera with a divine weapon while she is already injured and nearly killed by a titan. So there’s no "mere mortal beats a god" scenario here at all.
4. In Greek mythology, we have no examples of a god being literally defeated (not tricked or captured) by a mere human. Only wounded—twice—in the Iliad, but in the first case, it was Aphrodite, who is specifically described as weak in wartime. And in the second case with Ares, Athena was there invisibly, literally guiding Diomedes's spear to the weak spot with her own hand.
Now we have Epic. Where a god—one of the Big Three most powerful gods in Greek mythology—is beaten up in the middle of his own domain by a mere mortal with a wind bag (and with no experience in air fight) and a mere mortal weapon (hear me out!) to the point where said god lies helpless on the ground and cannot even pick up his own trident, allowing his enemy to take and use it. Does this sound logical to you? That Poseidon just lets himself be beaten, doesn’t fight back, and doesn’t even use his domain? If he did, there’d be no way in hell that Odysseus would win; it would be impossible. And we have no plot reasons for why Poseidon is so weak and why he doesn’t fight back or defend himself; we only have "because the author says so". So this fight just ruins the reliability of the epic narrative to the point of no return.

it's just. it's been so long. I'm seeing mutuals reblog dsmp that haven't touched dsmp with a ten foot pole in years. my dash is exploding. I'm seeing don't stop the party edits again. for tonight, just one night, our community is back in a small way and once again I am being hit with the realization of just how much I've missed this. everything about dsmp may have caused us pain and anger and sadness over the years but at the core of it there is still a story so many of us love that brought us together. they got their happy ending and now we have ours.
love you all <3

despite Laios low self esteem making him think that if he’d been eaten, Chilchuck and Marcille wouldn’t have helped Falin,
theres a small part of me that thinks the reason Chilchuck stayed with the party and went back in the dungeon in the first place was because he didn’t want to leave Laios alone. That Laios was moreso the reason he stayed.
#dungeon meshi#chilaios#OK SORRY. THE DEMONS. I REALLY DID NOT WANT TO LIKE THIS PAIRING. I DIDNT. BUT. HHH. FHFHJFJV. I FEEL CRAZY. LET ME EXPLAIN.#Pre canon it seems Laios is the person Chilchuck is really the closest to#He gets along with Namari and they are probably way better as buddies than he and Laios but#He and Laios seem *closer*#If that makes sense#Laios calls him his first name enough and without any issue or hesitation from Chilchuck#That I sort of inagine its not like. A misunderstanding. Laios is on a first name basis with him for a reason.#He also worries probably more than anyone about Laios#And his biggest criticism of him is that hes “reckless”#he’s comfortable around Laios in a very specific way and so is Laios around him#and in the series he shows many times that he’ll risk his life to protect Laios#Like staying with him to confront the elves because he was worried Laios would say something stupid#Hes the first one to run up to him when Falin punches him#I mean I think he was also going back for Falin like its not like I think he doesn’t care about her or anything#He clearly does#But I don’t know if he’d have gone back if Laios hadn’t#And if Laios had been eaten I think he wouldn’t have even had to be convinced by Falin#I also think Marcille would’ve gone back for him but probably more bc Falin was going back#Like sort of a reversed thing#AGAIN not that I don’t think she cared about Laios at the beginning either#But she before the story she was mostly Falin’s friend who knew Laios through Falin#She only really got to know him when Falin got eaten and they had to do a team building exercise#Though now I sort of want to see an actually reversed scenario#Bc we also know that Chilchuck is sort of uncomfortable around Falin (said in relationship chart)#So I would love to see them be forced into a team building exercise to find a person they both love the way Laios and Marcille were

Ok, variant one: Odysseus might have the strength of 600 men (who really should hate him, by the way). First of all, we don’t even know if that is possible in the Epic universe; there are no examples of it in the Epic narrative before. Secondly, why would Hades allow this to happen? There is no plot reason for it in the Epic. And he even has a reason to hate Odysseus, by the way, and no reasons to love him. Third, why isn’t Poseidon fighting back or defending himself? And I should also remind you that Odysseus has zero experience in jetpack combat, and none of his 600 men do either, so his close-combat skills won’t work here either.
Variant two: Odysseus is possessed by some god, which could explain the glowing red eyes. First of all, we still don’t know if this is possible in the Epic universe; there are no examples of it in the Epic narrative before. Second, still why doesn’t Poseidon fight back or even defend himself? Third, who is this god, and why is he/she doing this, especially unnecessarily torturing one of his/her close relatives? This is unnecessary because the storm was impenetrable only for mortals, so any god could easily deliver Odysseus home.
So, do we have any Odysseus-friendly sadistic gods in the Epic universe capable of beating one of the Big Three in the middle of his own domain with some windbag trick and having a motive for it?
Such tricks are severely out of character for Ares, and he really doesn’t love Odysseus or even Athena enough to fight one of the Big Three on their behalf. Furthermore, Ares is still weaker than the Big Three.
If it is Hades, then it would be a literal "deus ex machina" because Hades wasn’t even in the Epic before and has no reason to fight for Odysseus anyway. Sure, Poseidon killed 500+ men and gave Hades a little more work to do, but Odysseus, with his horse trick, killed many more sleeping Trojans. So Hades should seek revenge on Odysseus rather than help him. And still, torturing his own brother? Hades, why? You and he are not even enemies...
Maybe Athena? Yes, she has a motive to help Odysseus, but she is severely injured at the moment, so it’s doubtful that she has enough strength to defeat Poseidon. Also, tricks are her domain, alright, but unnecessary torture is not. So I don't think that it’s her either.
