Fic question: How does it feel to have finished a fic you started so long ago? (Also I will get around to finishing reading it!! I’ll probably reread from the beginning haha)

It’s……strange. Not in a bad way. It was very difficult to get myself to keep going and not get caught up in a loop of constantly revising old chapters. I had to make a deal with myself that I wouldn’t dive into any revisions for early stuff until I had finished the fic. I would really like to redo some of the early chapters. You know. The ones I wrote when I was 17.

Now that I’m done, there’s this space in my head where the fic used to be. Like, when I had it always simmering in the background. There is now a space there for a new project. It’s not a bad thing that it’s “gone” because I feel a solid state of completion. It’s out in the world now. I have told their story. A bit peaceful in a way.

If you do read from the beginning, keep in mind that I wrote the earlier chapters 10 years ago!!

This fic is absurdly special to me because I've been working on it for... ten years... I feel like I've grown up writing it.

The most recent chapter is another one that had been taking shape for many years before I finally ended up writing it. I have these basic plot tentpoles that I have to hit, like "Zim works on a revenge plan," "the spelldrive is out in the open as a trap" and "Gaz (with GIR?) ends up teleporting alone out of Aperture and the chapter ends there." The hard part comes in elaborating on them and weaving them together in a way that makes sense.

For the longest time I was trying to figure out how GIR would end up in proximity with Gaz in order to teleport out with her because I wanted to see their dynamic together and I couldn't work it out. Finally while I was actually writing the chapter I realized that Orange was a perfect candidate for it instead, especially since Zim's revenge involved attacking Blue earlier in the chapter.

for some reason I feel like I should tell you about this dream I had last night--I dreamed that the new Sonic movie came out and the whole theater was hyped to see Shadow, and Shadow was onscreen for like, a minute at the beginning, and then the rest of the movie was about Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles bringing down some warship Eggman had made. Shadow never showed up again for the rest of the movie, and I left just as the credits rolled because I was sure people were going to riot.

djfjsbshdjf oh my god, I can't imagine what would happen if the movie came out and Shadow was barely in it. I'm pretty sure people WOULD riot and burn Paramount studios to the ground. Dream!you absolutely made the right decision
