Tbh, I was nervous to post these bc... ppl have been mean/weird to me abt these ocs,,.. tho I love them all dearly. EACH of them have lore, and they are not as simple as they seem! Still, it rlly hurt when ppl insulted my designs and made weird assumptions and etc. Due to that, im gonna keep the comments off for these posts <:<

January Fic Recs

I was inspired by @merlins-sequined-hotpants who was inspired by @incalculablepower to make a fic rec list for January. This definitely isn't an exhaustive list but these are the fics that I read or discovered in January that were most memorable:

a louisville slugger to both headlights by @pebblysand - the Harry/OC fic I didn't know I wanted or needed, but I definitely adore. Crack treated seriously. Sheila's a gem.

The Dog and Deer Detective Agency by @artemisia-black - film noir, femme fatale meets Sirius Black. Harry rides a Babybolt. Crime-solving best friends James & Sirius. What's not to love?

Vetus Amicus by @floreatcastellumposts - Flo's last work. It didn't make me cry, even though it was sad, but I saw less sad and tragedy and more hope and beauty surrounding death. This is one of those fics that will stick with me.

Already Gone by @takearisk-ao3 - Hinny amnesia fic that inspired my own. The pining, the angst, the mutual pining, more angst. Don't forget the angst. :D

How did you come up with the idea for D&D?

(Also your Harry is adorable and the Babybolt is one of the cutest things I've heard)

OMG OMG I'm so excited that you are reading it- it makes me so happy.

I just really wanted to explore Sirius in a universe where all the canon nonsense didn't happen to him. I also really love film noirs (I used to watch them all the time with my Grandmother) and particularly love the noir femme fatale (which I'm trying to do with Aeliana).

I also wanted to write Harry as having the childhood he deserved- the pancake scene was a deliberate contrast to the first time we meet Harry in canon (where he's made to make bacon for Dudley's bday).

“Mummy! Mummy!”

Hope came running as fast as her legs could take her. Her sandy brown curls flew behind her, shining in the light of the sun, with the lavender dungarees she’d arrived in now covered in muddy grass.

“Hello, darling,” Tonks said, lifting Hope onto her lap. “Did you have fun on your broom?”

“She had loads of fun,” Remus replied, wiping the sweat off his brow with one hand and clutching a Babybolt in the other. “Loads of fun terrifying her father.”

Tonks picked a few twigs and stray leaves out of Hope’s curls. “Did you do that, sweetheart? You scared your dad?”

Hope nestled against Tonks’s chest, pink-cheeked and giggling. Upon seeing Molly come out of the Burrow with a new platter of sweets, the two-year-old climbed back down and went running toward the food.

“Like mother, like daughter,” Tonks snorted, seeing Molly indulge Hope with an oversized lolly.

“You can say that again—she’s a natural on a broom.”

“Future Gryffindor Quidditch Captain?” Charlie suggested, but Tonks playfully punched him in the arm.

“She’s got just as good a chance of Hufflepuff!”

“If anyone’s going to be a Hufflepuff,” Remus said fondly, glancing in the direction of the garden, “it’s Teddy.”

“With my luck, they’ll both be Gryffindors,” said Tonks, with a loud snort. “I’ll be surrounded by little lions.”

Charlie rolled his eyes at her.  “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”

Molly startled them with her shouts up at the sky, calling everyone to come down to eat. Tonks saw Teddy fly out of the garden, still zipping along on his Kidsweep. Upon seeing Remus’s tired expression, Tonks volunteered to get Teddy.

One of my favourite snippets from my WIP

Pushing open their glass-panelled front door, he was greeted with a high-pitched squeal of ‘PADDDDFOOOOOTTTTTTTT.’

The source of the noise was, of course, a chocolate covered Harry, zooming towards him on his latest broomstick, his chubby hands grasping at Sirius’s robes the second they were within reach.

His chest exploded with joy as he reached down to pluck his godson from his Babybolt, grinning broadly as he spun Harry in a wide arc, matching his squeals of laughter and giving him several sloppy kisses on his soft, chubby cheek.

‘James darling, put the kettle on,’ he shouted, towards the galley kitchen as Harry excitedly told him about his day, which involved both seeing his favourite duck whom he had named Mr Quacks and gorging on ice cream.

‘You’ve had a good day then, mate?’ He asked, stroking Harry’s hair as he took a seat in their waiting room cum meeting room, the well-worn leather creaking as he adjusted Harry onto his lap.
