I don't think they've ever been invited to any weddings, which they understand. Those are reserved for family and close friends.

They have been invited to plenty of birthday parties (usually for kids to entertain or watch over them) and baby showers. They be sure to bring gifts for the little ones. Whatever rules are placed, they will follow.

I’m sort of confused by those who don't like baby showers. Like as far as my autistic ass can determine it's a party celebrating the fact you made it through pregnancy. It'll also likely be the last time you see your friend for a while (people don't like putting in effort to see those that are unable to "make it" to social events like the disabled or new parents). It'll be the last time without the focus being on your child, in whole or in part. Also, it's one of the few chances that at a party people can actually ask for what they need as gifts (besides a wedding) and like babies are expensive and wouldn't you wanna see one wearing something you gave them? Or to have a chance to relieve an expecting parent or parents from stress? Is it just people don't like to see expecting moms having fun? Even in socially determined roles?

Is it just me or are they really weird now? Like yea you’re my friend and I love you so happy for you but you invited a shitload people to your mother in law’s house to play some weird games and eat food. Like. No offense but can I just drop your gift off with you and not have to deal with a bunch of strangers?

This was set off because I went to a dear friend’s baby shower on Saturday (funny because she was a kid at my Mom’s when I was still a bun in the oven). I kid you not there were 50 people there and I only knew like 10. It was really awkward and I kinda just hung out with my neighbors the whole time.

The food was really good though.

Then again I may just be an introvert.
