Things I screamed about in ATSV (spoilers)
-Got to rewatch the film so I’m just going to add the colours changing to warmer tones when Gwen hugs her father. Not even ten minutes in and I was already crying.
-Realised that we missed the Gwen-Vulture fight BUT got to see Jessica Drew enter the scene like a bad ass in her bad ass bike and hearing the audience collectively say ‘me too’ when Gwen asked if Jessica could adopt her.
-Screaming OSCAR ISAAC when Miguel spoke
-Lyla. Just Lyla.
- ‘Do you say anything other than no?’ ‘No-YES!’ more of miguel and jessica pls
-The Spot’s introduction. I didn’t see any promotional stuff, teasers or even trailers before watching this film so I had no idea who or what the The Spot was which was great because he really went from villain of the week to villain of the movie. And they clearly had a great time choreographing the fight scenes with him
-Miles’ heating up the beef patty while the spot and the convenience store man argue
-Miles patting the spot’s with a ‘good cow’ text
-Gwen and Miles both having to deepen their voices to avoid being recognised by their respective cop dads
-Miles saying that he can get two cakes when the counsellor says you can’t have your cake and eat it too and then bringing two cakes for his father’s party and neither of them saying what he wanted to convey.
-Rio and Jeff scolding an annoyed miles but instantly smiling when a relative hugs them what an universal experience
-Gwen teasing Miles for drawing her in his notebook almost obsessively but also breaking the biggest rule to spend time with him knowing the consequences.
-As they went to talk, my friend leaned over and said ‘yeah I bet they will talk’ and when they only talked he groaned very loudly at which point I had to remind him Miles was only 15
-Watching Jeff talk to Spiderman about his son not knowing his son is spiderman
-The DJ increasing the volume when Miles’ parents started scolding him in the middle of the party (the real mvp of the movie actually)
-JK Simmons cameo that no one seems to be talking about??? Embarrassingly enough I had to literally scream into my friend’s ear for most of the people to realise it was indeed JK Simmons
-Just the entire Mumbattan scene. It was so exciting to see my city be represented like that, still a bit cliched in my opinion but not like Slumdog so obviously they have updated their views. Everything from the traffic gag to Pav’s rant about chai tea had the theatre howling. Also the detail of the thought boxes (?) and sounds being written in Hindi
-Screaming DANIEL KALUUYA
-My friend and I are huge fans of the UK punk scene (her for the ideologies and myself for the music and fashion) so Hobie was a dream come true. He was already super cool with his guitar and mohawk costume but when he revealed his face it was just so amazing
-Gayatri is every indian’s dream girl with her modern shirt-flannel and jeans combo mixed with bangles and piercings I really wish we get to see more of her in the next movie. Anyway there was a lot of wolf-whistling and hooting for her and Pav
-Also Pavitr literally means pure I don’t know if they did that on purpose or not but I love it
-His pet name being Pav cured my soul
-’This is the most emotional I have seen him’ and Captain Singh has no emotions at all
-I want to see how they came up with so many spider designs because each was so unique and immediately endearing. My friend who is also a big dinosaur fan screamed DINOSAUR
-Kind of obsessed with how detailed Ben Reilly’s arms are they did not need to go that hard with it
-Tom Holland’s Spider-Man being referred to as ‘the little nerd’ by Miguel
-When everyone was making puns about the Spot my friend leaned over and said ‘i wonder which hole the spot prefers’ it is a miracle we are still friends actually
-The Donald Grover cameo!!!
-Peter B Parker having a cute little baby with the love of his life is what he deserves
-Miguel O Hara is one step away from becoming a Batman-Spiderman
-Hobie’s admiration for Mayday being the avatar of chaos Spider-baby
-Screaming ANDY SAMBERG
-I think they saw the appreciation for the art style in the previous film and then trebled it for this film and I cannot thank them enough for it
-Peter complaining about how Miguel breaks the Spiderman tradition of being funny and witty and Miguel being the first anomaly
-Every scene with the Spot is very unnerving because as I said, you watch him transform from this joker to a literal void of vengeance and it is every bit of terrifying
-Miguel is a man suffering from the destruction of an entire universe because of his selfish actions and forcing that anomaly narrative on a fifteen year old boy who became a spiderman on accident and doesn’t want his father to die because of that. Unlike the Spot, who isn’t even human anymore, Miguel is drowning in grief and guilt and trying to ignore it by holding the weight of the spider-verse on his shoulder. I hated him so much for making a boy go through that but then I just couldn’t in the end.
-Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire cameo!!! Hopefully we’ll get a fun Tom Holland one too in the next movie.
-Let me guess, he died?’ being a therapist for Spider Men must be a fairly boring job after a few patients.
-I just loved the absolute of wrongness of the scene where Miles returns ‘home’. The rain and darkness. I didn’t really think about Rio asking Miles what happened to his hair because I thought she was referring to the rain (although of course she wouldn’t ask him why his hair was wet when it was obviously raining outside) but realised something was wrong when he didn’t know about comic con but she did because in the first film there’s a joke about Peter B Parker explaining the concept to Miles.
- This movie is not good for my father related issues
-The glaring neon welcome sign when the gang end up in Earth 42
-How did Uncle Aaron get even scarier?
-Miles being the Prowler is honestly a great twist I saw it coming but still felt the shock of the reveal
-Prowler Miles having an accented voice meaning his father probably died when he was young and he only had his mom growing up
-Can’t wait for the original spider team to return for the third film seeing as they brought back Spider-Man Noir and Spider Ham and Peni Parker
-Screaming WHAT when the ‘to be continued’ appeared because that cliffhanger is absolutely destructive. All that adrenaline and excitement just popped. I’m still oscillating between being impressed and being disappointed.
I probably skipped over a lot of other scenes because these were the most memorable and I only watched the film once (unfortunate) but I can’t wait for the movie to hit streaming services and watch it again and again for all the other details I missed. Ill probably keep adding things as I remember

name: samaira qutb shah fc: tabu title: nawab begum samaira qutb shah, duchess of hyderabad age: 50 siblings: farhan qutb shah ( deceased ) children: utp traits: utp
people visit hyderabad for the mosques. well that’s not true, foreigners visit for the masjids and palaces for artifacts both living and ancient -- indians visit for the bazaars. laad bazaar where colorful lacquer bangles line the winding alleys, clinking from the brush of a saree or burkha, or the perfume bazaar with so many fragances fighting for attention until one’s head aches. and of course, everyone came for the biryani. a microcosm of the quintessential indian mixture of different tongues and peoples as a state that was both north and south in culture. this is the hyderabad that raised samaira. this is the hyderabad she protects fiercely.
her grandfather used to tell her and her younger brother stories of their hyderabad, the princely state they were to rule, every night he could manage. he’d describe the intrigue it took to bring the qutb shah family back into the palace after the nizams had stolen it, deals with the british raj struck between dancing girls and wine. he tells how post-independence the qutb shahs worked with the newly formed government to absorb the eastern region of andhra pradesh into the hyderabad state on the basis of their common language: telugu. legacy, heritage, tradition, culture would whisper in her mind long after he’d turn off the lights. they’d guide her into the literature and arts ba and she’d soon manage taking their noble guests on tours through the falaknuma palace, and raising funds for the restoration of other forts. samaira was the one who lead.
farhan was the one who kept them together, especially once their father retired and he became nawab -- he was like that, a cheerful black sheep in a family of stern introverts and loved dearly for it by the common folk. no matter how much times passes (nine years, how had it been so long without her baby brother), his death still weighs on her. he supported her every time she rejected another suitor, and though his choice of bride wasn’t her favorite, she supported him too. for him, she was willing to put aside politics, even though a nice, easy to manipulate, hindu-telegu, coastal andhra girl might have helped quell some of the bifurcation protests. only the small minded would look at their rivers and sea-line and not understand how one fed into the other.
but then he’s gone, and her parents are too broken-hearted to take his place. the choice becomes marriage (the one tradition she cannot quite bring herself to fulfill) or damini (an inevitable push towards a future without roots). it’s not a difficult decision; better the devil you know than the one you don’t. she is not keen on western encroachment, even stricter than her sister-in-law: there is a reason why damini is called duchess, while she only answers to begum. they’ve clashed numerous times -- samaira’s agenda to recover the golconda diamonds (the koh-i-noor from uk, the hope from us, the orlov from russia, their legacy, heritage, tradition, culture from these parasites) comes up frequently. but the most notable and public disagreement was over the andhra pradesh reorganisation act of 2014 led by her own people to separate the the hyderabad state into andhra pradesh, the eastern coastline region and telangana, the northwest river-fertile region (where the city of hyderabad remains the capital). samaira’s hyderbad is torn in half and her heart aches to be whole once more.
connections: @daminiqshah ( sister-in-law / the other duchess of hyderabad ), @rchvnt ( duke of rajasthan / heir to rajasthani throne ), @kicrcm ( damini’s assistant / a nuisance ), @aarych ( youngest prince of india ) & the other indian royals
helpful reading background.
gifs will be provided & contact @rchvnt or @daminiqshah if you’re interested !
#hshqadopt#royal rp#beautiful graphic by beautiful jude#{ tr | nawab - mughal era term for prince or king / begum or nawab begum - mughal era term for princess or queen }#just basically rulers but by western systems of hierarchy they'd be considered duke/duchess#see 'helpful reading background' link for explanation of complexities of ruling princely states in india

For better or for worse, I have a job that is exempt - to a great degree - from the widespread need for isolation (in the world of news radio, the show must go on). However, I do get days off and thank goodness for that because my brain can only take so much constant pandemic talk.
So! I offer up ‘the ultimate music list’, something I started doing on YouTube last year. Maybe earlier. It’s a living list, it will never be complete. Anyway, listen to the way my music mind rambles! All songs listed on the other side of the keep reading line (not linked, you gotta do some of the work):

CLICK HERE for the August 25, 2019 playlist
1. Jules and the Polar Bears – “Shadows Break” (1978)
Group led by Jules Shear, who went on to write hits for Cyndi Lauper (“All Through the Night”) and The Bangles (“If She Knew What She Wants”). This is from their first record, Got No Breeding, a fantastic and smart record from start to finish.
2. Van Duren – “Grow Yourself Up” (1978)
A Memphis dude and Big Star affiliate. This is from his first album, which is still not available on Spotify, but luckily it’s also on the soundtrack to an upcoming documentary about Mr. Duren, which _is _on Spotify.
3. Sneaky Feelings – “Someone Else’s Eyes” (1983)
I honestly don’t know much about this band, just that they’re from New Zealand and were on Flying Nun, but to me they sound more like a UK power pop band than any of the other Flying Nun bands of the time.
4. Felt – “The Day the Rain Came Down” (1985)
The musical project of “Lawrence,” who said he was going to start a band, release 10 albums and 10 singles, and then break up, and did exactly that. This is from Felt’s fourth album, Ignite the Seven Cannons and Set Sail for the Sun, when the band still featured the beautiful guitar stylings of Maurice Deebank, on full display on this track. Also, it really does end that abruptly.
5. The Three O’Clock – “When Lightning Strikes” (1983)
One of the pillars of LA’s “Paisley Underground” scene in the 80’s (which, in my mind, also inclues The Dream Syndicate, Rain Parade, and the Bangles). Later, serendipitously, signed to Prince’s Paisley Park record label and gave a young Jason Falkner his start. This is from their first record.
6. The Boys – “Baby It’s You” (1979)
Included on Titan: It’s All Pop, a compilation put out by the wonderful Numero Group consisting of music released by the Kansas City regional power-pop label Titan in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Kansas City was actually a step up for The Boys, who hailed from the music mecca of Lincoln, Nebraska.
7. Magazine – “Rhythm of Cruelty (7” Version)” (1979)
Magazine frontman Howard Devoto was a founding member of the Buzzcocks, but left before they ever released an album (he does have a co-songwriting credit on “Orgasm Addict”—nothing to sneeze at). For some reason his brief Buzzcocks membership is always one of the first things mentioned about him (and I’m clearly part of the problem), but Magazine put out four really great nervy, new-wavey albums of their own. Bassist Barry Adamson went on to a stint in Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, soundtracking David Lynch films, and other cool stuff.
8. Gong – “Love is How Y Make It” (1973)
For the most part, I’m not sure I can hang with Gong, who are about as goofy as an art/prog-rock band from the 70’s can get. But I’ve loved this song ever since Four Tet put it on a mix back in 2006. And it serves as a nice palette cleanser here to move out of the power-pop new wave mode of the first songs into some other territory.
9. Was (Not Was) – “Wheel Me Out (Long Version” (1980)
Before he was producing 90’s career-renaissance albums for The Rolling Stones and Bonnie Raitt, and before he became president of Blue Note Records, Don Was was making weirdo funk-disco music in Detroit.
10. The B-52’s – “Ain’t it a Shame” (1986)
Was turned onto this wonderful song, from the otherwise little-talked-about 1986 album Bouncing Off the Satellites, by my friend and former bandmate Dr. Nathan DeYonker, who always wanted our band Reading to cover it. I think Sinead O’Connor covered it at one point—but I’ve never heard it.
11. Nite Jewel – “It Goes Through Your Head” (2011)
The recording project of LA-resident Ramona Gonzalez, whose music to me often captures the emotional essence of late-80’s/early 90’s R&B in a more lo-fi package. All her albums are great, but this was a one-off single from a few years ago.
12. Donna Summer – “Lucky” (1979)
I picked up a copy of Bad Girls recently on the cheap, and this Moroder-produced synth-pop number from Side Four caught my ear.
13. Shura – “religion (you can lay your hands on me) – edit” (2019)
I know next to nothing about Shura, but I heard this song recently and really dug not only the wonderful melodies and production, but also the disarming innocence of the song’s steamy focus on “kissing.”
14. Richenel – “Perfect Stranger” (1982)
Seems like I saved the songs I know the least about for the end. Music From Memory, a great Dutch record label that I’ve been following for a couple of years, has put out a couple of EP’s worth of stuff by this guy, a Dutch singer who later put out music on 4AD and some major labels.
15. Rare Silk – “Storm” (1985)
I really know nothing about this band, but I was surprised to find out they were from BOULDER, COLORADO. Given that, to me, this song sounds like it wasn’t even made on this planet, Boulder makes more sense than a lot of places. A reissue label I love out of the UK, Be With Records, is putting out a 10” of this song later this year.

crowns task 6 // aileen o’conor
name: aileen ciara o’conor
place of birth / date of birth: 20th may 1985. aileen was born in dublin, ireland at the same hospital as all of her cousins, her big sister and her niece. naturally.
star sign: taurus
sexual orientation: heterosexual/romantic
relationship status: single, feels like she doesn’t have the time to start a relationship with work and aine.
religion: was christened catholic at home. she doesn’t follow it strictly but still finds comfort sometimes in prayer and goes home every easter/christmas etc to celebrate the holidays with her family.
spoken languages: speaks english and also knows gaelic conversationally but doesn’t really use it. also knows french and spanish and could probably get by in basic conversations.
lives: in primrose hill in a yellow terrace house with aine and her cat, named crumpet after aine’s favourite breakfast food.
drives: she got her license back in ireland when she was 17 before she left for uni and does own a secondhand jeep that she loves but hardly ever gets to drive it in london. mostly uses the tube to get around and to and from work.
occupation: practising human rights law in a london firm near kings cross.
education: up to degree level. studied llb (hons) law (european and international) at sheffield where she also got her masters whilst working as a paralegal up there.
parents / brief family history: grew up in a very happy and close family. her parents owned the popular local so aileen and her sister kathleen grew up above a pub and they loved it. the regulars were also slipping the sisters packets of crisps or ‘tipping’ them a couple of euros to take their glasses to the bar. both the sisters had their first saturday jobs there of course. leaving her family to go to university in the uk was terrifying for aileen because she had to leave her family behind, and was especially difficult when her sister’s husband died and left her with a newborn baby. not long after, kathleen and aileen’s dad died in a car accident and it broke her heart. still, she took aine in and the family are gradually moving past this tragedy, though there will always be a hole.
tattoos/piercings: aileen only has one piercing on each lobe. has a four leaf clover tattooed on her ankle, also has sunflowers on her right side.
fashion sense: aileen likes to experiment with her fashion and actually does try to follow trends despite not having the time to go out and shop most of the time and when she does it’s always for aine. she’s a girly girl, loves a skater dress, lot’s of florals and pastel colours and has a guilty pleasure high heel collection. wears a lot of pencil skirts for work with cute frilly blouses. accessorises with scarves in her hair and owns a lot of jewellery, loves a chunky necklace and bangles. on the weekends she’s very bo-ho and does have three leather satchels that all pretty much look the exact same.
music: she’s an 80′s girl at heart okay. loved bowie and michael jackson, george michael (she loves wham pls), bon jovi, queen, journey, fleetwood mac, madonna. anything soft rock and she’s there. b*witched were her youth tbh and she met them once at home and freaked out like a fifteen year old. anyone irish and she’ll listen to them even if they’re shit. hates galway girl, thinks it’s the worst song she’s ever heard.
sleeping habits: aileen sleeps like the dead all the time. only wakes up when aine literally jumps on her back otherwise would sleep through the whole of sunday. she’s an old soul, so aileen is usually in bed by 9 and either stays up to read a book or watches trash tv, loves i’m a celeb and big brother especially, also a secret towie and made in chelsea addict. honestly as long as she has a cup of tea before bed then she’ll go out like a light pretty easy. has to get her eight hours or she’s proper moody.
eating habits: look she’s basically a football mum okay. so she does her best to make sure that her three year old niece gets all she needs. i’m talking five a day, no fizzy drinks in the house, only drinks water and milk but on the weekends she cracks and it’s dinosaur nuggets, potato waffles and beans because you can’t be good all the time. does her best to have three meals a day, always strives to have breakfast with aine and to get home in time to have dinner too since aine spends most of the day with a nanny she feels she owes it to her to be there for mealtimes. oh and she bakes, god does she BAKE.
social media: isn’t a huge social media person. she keeps facebook updated mostly for the sake of her mum, so she can see what her daughter and granddaughter are up to in england. does have instagram and it’s mostly cute pics of aine or inspirational quotes, or dorky selfies tbh. snapchat is an utter loss to her and she literally only uses twitter to keep up to date with news and pop culture. has tweeted a few times but she mostly retweets cat videos or chrissy teigen, and she loves baking twitter.
hobbies: aileen loves to read, will literally read anything tbh but loves a good sappy romance novel because she’s still and always will be, a hopeless romantic. she loves to cook and on weekends aine is her little helper in the kitchen, where they make a ridiculous amount of cakes for two people to be able to finish. so aileen often has to bring in cakes to work which her office does not mind at all. still loves to sing, karaoke is her favourite thing ever though she misses dueting with kat. used to play piano, fiddle and the violin but doesn’t really have time for it now. loves going for a run round the park, recently joined a mummy and me class with aine at the local parish centre. still knits, because she’s a grandma.
cologne / perfume: PRADA CANDY EAU DE PARFUM. “to embody this explosive femininity, miuccia prada wanted an excessive fragrance with too much of everything. the Prada style oriental eau de parfum is a unique signature in keeping with the traditions of high perfumery, combining laotian benzoin, a synthetic caramel accord and a more neutral cocktail of musk.”
hogwarts house: obviously aileen is hufflepuff, there’s just no sidestepping it. she’s loyal and always works hard to get where she wants to be. doesn’t believe in having anything handed to you and things you need to earn it. she’s kind to a fault, has a heart of gold and she wears it proudly on her sleeve even if that gets her hurt more often than not. some might call her naive, but she’d argue she’s just optimistic.
#crowns.task6#crowns.auweek#( * aileen | modern. )#sO i changed aileens job#because i wasn't feeling journalist for her tbh#and i re-read her intro#and she's so into law#and in au she can actually Be a lawyer so!!#my baby bringing justice

The Legal Nomads 2019 Gift Guide: Art and Jewelry
I did my first ever holiday gift guide for travelers a few years ago, which was fun to compile. Readers seemed to enjoy the various items, and I was happy to share some of the products that accompanied me on the road. This year, I wanted to do something a little different. For starters, my life is a little different – something all of you already know. As a result, my own gifts to family and friends aren’t souvenirs from far-away places, but fun things I’ve discovered online. I wanted to share some of them here, especially as many are small businesses like myself.
I completed the resulting creative gift guide later than expected, because I could only type in 20 minute increments. I hope you enjoy this gift guide, one that focuses specifically on art and jewelry. There are so many shops with interesting work out there, and sometimes it’s hard to narrow it down.
The items below are from artists that I have supported, some of whom I’ve actually met, and they are all products I stand behind.
Unique Art and Jewelry Gifts for 2019
BECCA JANE DESIGNS
When searching for a gift for my mum’s birthday this year, I thought I would do something a little different. I looked for an artist who could illustrate our family with a beautiful border and then send her a printed copy for her birthday.
I’ve never commissioned this kind of gift before, and Rebecca – the artist I chose – was patient and kind, and we went back and forth a few times until I was satisfied. She even agreed to make my brother as depicted, wearing his favourite martini t-shirt.
I was waiting on this gift guide until my mum received her gift, and she loved it!
Rebecca’s full shop here, and note that she will do other kinds of designs as well, like Save the Dates for weddings, holiday cards, personalized baby blankets, and more.
LEXIGRAPHIQUE
I’ve followed Michael Buchino’s whimsical word work for some time on Instagram, as it combines two of my favourite things: learning, and art. His Insta feed, Lexigraphique, is one of those accounts that I send to multiple friends many times a week.
Before this guide went up, I wrote him to ask if he had any holiday items I could include, and lucky for all of us he was just about to launch the hygge cards below.

You can buy his prints and these cute holiday cards in his Buchino shop, here.
PICTRIXDESIGN
Anne Connell’s shop is a wonder to behold, chock full of paper goods designed — as she notes on Instagram and on her website — with an “absurd attention to detail” She lists herself as a precisionist, and it’s easy to see why. Her artwork is meticulous, delicately crafted, and very unique.
I found her botanical card series first, and clapped my hands with glee. As someone trying to get out in nature during brief spurts of respite from bedrest, they were a breath of fresh air. Her constellation cards, featuring each of the zodiac signs, are a clear crowd-pleaser. I’ve put those two types of cards below but honestly it’s worth heading to see her full shop.
I realize these are listed as cards, but I think they are frame-worthy all by themselves.

NICALLENART
Nicola is a long-time Legal Nomads reader, and a fellow lawyer and traveler. She has generously shared bird illustrations and other fun to keep me cheered up when I’ve been down. She’s also a very talented artist, and her cards and other items are rich in puns and joyful artistry.
Nicola’s work reminds me of the children’s’ books I loved most, with creative characters, maps, and whimsical animals. A talented hand-brush lettering artist, she also includes a lot of drawn typography in her work.
From a grumpy owl to a festive sheep, you’ll be sure to find holiday cards to your tastes. And one of my absolute faves is her wedding card below, “Of all the fish in the sea” — delightful.

BIRDSTRIPS
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jess, the genius behind Birdstrips, in person twice. She’s currently in Montreal, and a friend introduced us just before I re-leaked last summer. Her illustrations have grown a huge following on Instagram due to its relatable messaging, and her captions that accompany the drawings are raw and vulnerable. Together, it’s powerful work that makes almost everyone feel heard.
In Jess’ words, the shop comprises “the existential distress of the flightless through the eyes of the flighted.”

You can check out her images and pick up mugs, shirts, prints and more, here.
ABSTRACT AERIAL ART
JP and Mike Andrews, two brothers from the UK are an Instagram favourite of mine. I often share their images with my community because their eye is unique, and their pictures compelling. Like me, they absolutely love to travel. Unlike me, they specialize in photographing bizarre, aerial images our planet using drone photography.
Their goal: to share perspectives of the world otherwise unseen, captured from a vantage point most of us miss. A great gift option for those who love to roam.
Here’s one I love from them: Skyline, a drone photograph of a freighter that looks like a cityscape.

TEKSTARTIST
Jason Markow, aka TEKSTartist is an artist I found a few years ago, and was hooked immediately. His work combines both traditional and digital media, a fusion of techniques that result in elegant yet crisp products. Given that my own products are typographic representations of food, I love that his art includes quotes he’s enjoyed over the years, visually represented in unique ways.
One of my favourites: this flower, “Your Garden, Forever” available here, created by warping and twisting the words from Tennyson’s famous quote – “If I had a flower for every time I thought of you…I could walk through my garden forever.”― Alfred Tennyson
(c)TEKSTartist 2019
And the item below, The Giving Tree, was created by warping/twisting the words from the entire set of text from Shel Silverstein’s iconic book “The Giving Tree”. Buy a copy of the artwork here.

EFFIN BIRDS
These illustrations of birds with curse words sayings are all the rage on Instagram and Twitter, for good reason: they’re hilarious. Crafted by Aaron Reynolds, they do seem to offend some, but as the name suggests exactly what they are it’s hard for anyone to be upset. Don’t like them? Close the tab. Personally, I find them exactly what I need, each and every day. Clothing, mugs, pins, and more at the link, including a new Effin’ Birds book.
Buy here.
TOTE BAGS: TYPOGRAPHIC MAPS OF FOOD
I’m excited to share the new tote bags in the Legal Nomads shop. Previously, I offered a canvas, bull-woven tote of the maps, with the map printed on once side. These new tote bags are black and white – and if people like, I can also swap out the handles to make them red or mustard! – and the design is printed on both sides.*
*If you’d like to swap out the tote bag for a different handle (example here), just send an email to jodi-at-legalnomads.com after you order, and I’ll make sure it happens.
The new tote has sturdy handles and holds up to 44lbs, perfect for errands and/or carrying a laptop without a laptop bag. Food maps of Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Portugal, Italy, and Mexico available.
(c) Jodi Ettenberg 2019
Shop the new totes here. The full shop is here.
VANRILEY
These beautiful macrame earrings are courtesy of the Van Riley shop, run by a fellow leaker. I wanted to share her work as I know how it is to worry about making ends meet with a CSF leak. If someone in your life loves macrame, please consider supporting her shop!
Macrame earrings and other items, on the VanRiley shop here.
MICAPEET JEWLERY
Given my love of nature, it’s no surprise that I also love jewelry that depicts it in design. I saw these gold leaf earrings recently and ordered a pair as my holiday gift to myself. They’re lightweight — great for anyone with headaches — and they are delicate and just so pretty. I like the contrast of the gold with the emerald green stud in the ear.
If leaf earrings aren’t your thing, Mica also has necklaces, rings, and other earrings in a variety of shapes and sizes. They’re lightweight and beautiful, and oh so creative. Her jewelry is hypoallergenic and nickel-free.
Buy the same gold leaf earrings that I love here, with Mica’s full shop here.
GLDNxLAYEREDANDLONG
Several readers nominated this Etsy shop, and it’s the only one on this list that I haven’t also purchased myself. But when my readers are happy, I’m happy, and I wanted to share what brought them such joy in gift giving.
Chrissy’s shop features personalized, delicate jewelry for those who want to memorialize their care with initials or names. The image below is for the necklace that several readers bought, but her shop is full of other options, including rings, earrings, and pendants.
Personalized initial necklace here. Full shop here.
BEBANGLES
I’ve saved one of the best for last.
My friend Chantelle started Be., a company that sells bangles – but also much more than simply bangles. Chantelle is one of the most open-hearted, vivacious people I’ve ever met, and thankfully I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her in person years ago. Her company’s bangles work well in conjunction with the lightness and curse words of Effin Birds, two small business enterprises that use curse words to make a valid point. In Chantelle’s case, Be. takes a stand against societal norms. Her work aims to support women and girls in a society that often expects airbrushed perfection.
I received a few Be. bangles as a wonderful 40th birthday gift from Chantelle, and my two faves – that came with me to Florida are:
“I’m mostly peace, love, light, and a little go fuck yourself” – product here, and
“I stopped waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel, and lit that bitch up myself” – product here.
I am someone who uses curse words as a form of punctuation, so those two bracelets are perfect. For those with less swear-y tendencies, lots of beautiful options like:
“Be you. The world will adjust.” (here), and
“Speak. Even if your voice shakes.” (here.)
All of Be.’s products here.
That’s it for 2019! A big thanks to my friend Reine who helped pull many of the images and upload them for me, so that I could do this guide more easily. It would have been a 2020 gift guide without her. Hopefully there’s something fun in here for someone in your family.
Happy holidays, and thank you as always for all the incredible support.
-Jodi
