Inktober Day 25

This is from the official daily Inktober 2022 prompt list that I have, once again, repurposed for my own writing uses.

Inktober Day 25: Tempting

Rin stood on tiptoe, arching his back and craning his neck to peer atop the counter. He’d seen Mami pile all the cookies in a big jar after breakfast, but he didn’t see it now.

“Charj baina ooooo?” Nika asked…something. Rin didn’t know Obrunese, but he knew Nika enough now to know that his brother had asked a question.

“Shhh!” he insisted, one pudgy hand slapping over Nika’s lips. “Grandmother’ll hear you!” He shook his head at the other boy, curls bouncing erratically around his head. Slowly, Nika mirrored the gesture.

“Guhranmuh no?”

“Yah, she’ll know, and we’ll both be in trouble.”

Rin stretched back up on his tiptoes, holding on to the edge of the wooden counter as he tipped back to see as much as he possibly could. Beside him, Nika rubbed his chin like Dad did and muttered to himself. “Guhranmuh no…”

“Gimme a boost,” Rin huffed finally, dropping back down.

“Huh?”

Rin mimed kneeling and jumping.

Confused but a good sport, Nika knelt on the tiled floor of the kitchen. Rin clambered atop him, and from there to the counter.

“Ah! Rin!” Nika jumped to his feet, hands grabbing at the edge of the counter.

“Shhhhh!”

Nika stared worriedly up, backing up until he could see Rin properly. “Magadgüi…magadgüi bid zügeer,” he glanced towards the open doorway. “…l asuukh kheregtei.”

“Sure,” Rin answered, busily shoving big jars of salsa and flour away from a squatter jar behind. “Whatever you want.” He pulled the heavy clay jar forward. The tantalizing smell of plantain wafted from beneath the lid. “I think I found them!”

He eased the jar to the edge of the counter. “Can you catch?”

Nika frowned, even as he held up his short arms. “Zis bahd!”

“Shhh!”

“Rin!”

Both boys jerked up at Mum’s voice. “What are you doing?” She rushed forward, snatching Nika up with one arm and stopping the rolling jar with the other.

She stared hard at Rin until he fidgeted. “If you wanted one you should have asked.”

“Bi tegj khelsen!” Nika fumed.

when one of your closest friends, brianna passed away in spring 2024 , you fell in a downwards spiral. your mental health was declining, ultimately hurting you & paiges relationship in the process. even when you had a break , she was always there for you . when you tried taking your life in may , she was at the mental hospital , visiting you , every day .

paige has been with you every step of the way . even with the arguments and breaks , you both always overcame everything together . paige was like your person , almost like a built in best friend . you guys had been close since 2018 , when you moved to Hopkins, MN .

when you and paige both announced that you both were committing to UConn , your life turned for the best . ever since you guys both were roomies , you both have done everything with each other . you guys have seen movies , went to concerts and went to fairs and parks together . even before your guys first kiss , you guys were inseparable .

you guys would always joke about you loving her until your lungs gave out , but you weren't joking . you loved playing and practicing basketball with the love of your life every day , and you wouldn't change it for the world . you loved dressing each other up before games , and you braiding her & you hair for game days . you both never believed that love was all about being sexual . (even though you guys are)

you and her both loved having real love , and you wouldn't change her for the world .

a god known to no one

Trafalgar Law is the last sun priest. With his city burned to the ground by royal knights, the high priest missing and only him and a child as the last survivors of the crown-endorsed massacre, he is the last priest of a god long forgotten by all but the residents of the small village of Flevance.

A god known to no one its a is a dying god.

The essence of a god is in the tales and legends that surround him, the source of a god's power comes from the worship of his followers, the life of a god depends on those who believe.

A god known to no one is a dying god and even though Law likes to think his faith is real and firm he doesn't think Nika would survive having just two believers, no matter how much Bonney prays and makes offerings.

The word has to be spread, people need to hear and tell Nika's tales again, the world needs to once again recognize the existence of the god who once freed it. And in the absence of the high priest and as the adult in charge of looking after the little envoy of the sun god, Law is the one who has the job of making Nika known once again.

And there's no better place to begin this mission than in the capital. he just needs a little plan that allows him to commit treason, because the king is clearly the biggest obstacle between Law and his god's salvation.

It is just Law's luck that he ends up encountering a group of bandits whose destination is also the capital whose plans also involve the beheading of the king. Monkey D Luffy seems to think, for whatever reason, that he is the true heir to the throne and his group of weird friends seem to support the idea. He is the leader of the Straw Hat bandits and is also the man who…kidnapped Law.

It wasn't really kidnapping, of course. They got into a bar fight, made out in the bar alley, fought over who would pay the bill and then Luffy simply threw Law over his shoulder and put Bonney over his arm and carried them to his carriage. Using a bit of excessive force.

And now he was giving them an unsolicited ride to the capital where they would all dethrone a tyrannical king. Law was definitely not kidnapped, yes.
