so naturally i hate this different species all along business. ALSO the 'traumatised lab rat that escaped' scifi backstory HAS BEEN DONE! doctor who was like no other scifi show (save star trek, i suppose) to just be - so mind-blowingly original! the doctor was better than any superhero because they weren't the product of an experiment or secretly an alien - they were an ordinary person who justdecided to Be Better - and i just loved that.

Following on from the first ask:

Absolutely. The Doctor started off as a grumpy old man who was exiled from his home and with the help of his companions (Ian and Barbara and so many others), they taught him to be compassionate and curious. He was a renegade, outcast from his own kind who were stuck-up, who wanted to help others and we could look up to that. I feel like Chibnall has just completely disrespected William Hartnell and his entire beginning of the show.

It’s not only that but I really do not think Jodie is the right cast as the Doctor.  With that scene between her and Jo Martin, Jo Martin was a far, far better choice to be the Doctor. Ruth!Doctor had more charisma and development than I had seen from Jodie’s Doctor over the last two seasons. They should have cast Jo Martin as the Doctor. She would have been a far better choice and I don’t even care for the pre-Hartnell stuff.

I get that Chibnall and Jodie were friends before the announcement but Jodie is not passionate about the show (she talks about it in the podcast with David Tennant and how little research she actually has done) and she copies the mannerism of the Tenth Doctor too much.  

I was also just bored throughout the entire episode. There was too much exposition and talking and I didn’t even care for the guest’s stars, I didn’t even remember their names after five minutes and Chibnall has made them such paper-thin characters that I was half hoping the Cybermen would kill them off one by one. 

I was half-hoping when Yaz and Graham dressed up like Cybermen, they got stuck or converted or something interesting along those lines to make it a little more exciting but…I was just so bored. (Also, don’t get me started on Yaz’s response to Graham wonderful speech about Yaz being wonderful and she just sits there and goes: “You’re not so bad yourself. It’s a love letter from Yorkshire..”)

I’m also sick of the moral of the week storylines we had throughout season 12. Doctor Who has always been political, let me say that and it has always handled it well to a wide range of audience but I feel Chibnall and the BBC are certainly pushing the morals of the week in a preachy and patronizing way that it turns people off and are putting it out for a certain type of audience and it’s not healthy. It’s one of the main factures why people are stopping on watching Doctor Who.  (I’ve had many friends not finish episodes in season 12 run because of this).

Listen, my favourite Doctor Who episodes are when they get political. I love Gallifrey, I love I, Davros, trial of a timelord, the whole third Doctor Era. But Chibnall way of handling Doctor Who being political does not do it for me. 

I also get Doctor Who has always had plotholes but the Timeless children has really, really took this to the next level of plotholes. Chibnall has destroyed a 50-year-old show’s legacy within minutes and not in a good way.

ah!! as for other classic who eras, i watched Unearthly Child followed by Survival, meaning i went from the first episode to the last episode with absolutely NOTHING in the middle. when i realised this, i did some heavy contemplation of my viewing choices. i saw Mark of the Rani with six and i also really love him! (i've met every doc except 4 at this stage, and i genuinely love all of them, but 3, i think, is my favourite. his dynamic with the master sends me into hysterics.)

Survival is great! best Doctor Who cat furry episode. if you want a good Fourth Doctor story with bonus Master and Gallifrey content then I’d recommend The Deadly Assassin.

Do The Bad Thing speaks for itself, as does Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend. Your usual songs about being tempted to do bad things but in a fun and sexy way, very Faust-core. 

Stop the World I Want to Get Off (With You) is so mid-Faustus like, them enjoying their time together and having all the power they could want, literally stopping time at some points agh. 

The Jeweller’s Hands is really reminiscent - for me at least - of having been lead down this road of power and then suddenly been let go and drowning in it all. Really really good song.

hello!! you seem very very informed! i have asthma, but only exercise-induced asthma. what extra precautions should i take? i love you!

HI FRIEND!!

Anyone with asthma is--for lack of a better term in my sleep-deprived brain--mechanically vulnerable. Any respiratory illness you get, whether you have more allergy-triggered asthma, cold/exercise-triggered asthma, a mix, whatever, etc., is going to carry a little more risk because your respiratory system is primed to be more sensitive and get inflamed at the drop of a hat. 

Follow all reasonable precautions, like hand washing, isolation, disinfecting everything, etc. If you have any kind of mask, wear it if you ever go out. Or a bandanna, at least, that’s tucked up as tightly around your chin as possible. Get in contact with your doctor NOW to get a detailed picture of what you should look out for most if you DO get sick and what they think your individual cutoff should be for the moment you go “welp okay guess i gotta go to the hospital now”. Generally, that moment is when you have trouble breathing, but if you deal with asthma, it might be easy to think that maybe if you just do a breathing treatment or use an inhaler it’ll ease--but the doctor might not want you to, say, use a steroid, or they might encourage it. I’m not a doctor, I can’t say lol. 

Any medications you have, make sure you have plenty. A lot. At least one month’s worth. If you’re low, contact your doctor or local pharmacy and ask them about getting an advance refill or larger (like 90 day) supply, they’re happy to do that at times like this, and when something like a hurricane is coming. If you’re doing daily/weekly/whatever treatments or routines, KEEP THEM UP RELIGIOUSLY. 

IF you do get sick, if you have a humidifier or can get one, it might be a good idea to keep your nose near it as much as possible, because I know exercise-induced asthma often is truly triggered by the air temperature change when a person shifts to mouth-breathing, and having warmer moist air can at least give you a tiny edge if your building runs colder or if you started breathing through your mouth in your sleep or whatever. Plus, any congestion you might get (which isn’t necessarily going to happen if you catch the virus) would clog you up less, and you can use every bit of advantage you can get your hands on. But that’s just my personal logic!

I hope this helps, I wish you luck, and I hope you don’t catch it and have as relaxing and good of a time as you can in the foreseeable future!!! Keep being your rad self :)

oho. i went thru a big doctor who phase when i was 12/13 bc i got on tumblr and s//uperwholock was huge. and then i got to the master eps in 10′s seasons and i was like. Hm. and then i saw ppl shipping them and i was like HM. and then i spent months crying and reading fics on ao3 and ff.net while listening to forever young by alphaville so now that songs forever them and very upsetting to me. it then hit me Again when i got caught up on 12 and they KISSED and i literally had to fucking put down my laptop where i was pirating that episode to scream bc i was NOT expecting that to actually HAPPEN. i’d spent so long loving that ship and not really expecting anything to come of it bc it was just another one of those “homoerotic but not actually canon” ships. then i went through ANOTHER phase when 12′s last season came out and all That happened with it and now i just suffer every single day of my life in the background.

i did also watch a bunch of 3 episodes solely for them and u kno what? it was worth it.

I wanted a unique name, two-syllables, strong vowel sounds. It was between Ripley and Jaime. But ultimately I went with Ripley and I’m glad I did! I love my name!!
