In our already too long Valvert-fanfics adventure, @philanthrophic-misanthrope and I noticed a trend – some authors give Javert a first name. Surprisingly, we found that authors prefer a limited number of first names. We collected them and propose you choose the one you like. And no, we are not as merciful as to provide an option for 'he doesn’t have a first name; he is just Javert.' Choose one or propose your own version.
#ohohoho yes the lore the information mwaha YESSS#though I'll be honest as a slavic person it was really surprising to encounter Ferko xD#....Or Saša for that matter#javert#les mis fanfic#a reflection of starlight

Thinking about the episode of Daredevil where Foggy finds out and how it's just one of the best superhero identity reveals ever portrayed.
So often it's handled as a quick thing - a shock either quickly overcome or dramatically reacted to (I'm gonna run off and become a supervillain to spite you!) or confirmation of something long suspected.
With this it's just so messy and raw and tangled and complicated. Foggy's friendship with Matt is one he's built his business on, and in which his identity and history is intimately entangled. He's watching one of the core pillars of his life crumble and he's left crawling among the wreckage, being forced to reexamine each and every individual brick to see if it's something he can rebuild with.
And Matt is so blinkered in that moment he just... Doesn't get it. He's in physical and emotional pain and he's terrified of losing his friend but he also fundamentally doesn't understand why this is so seismic. He thinks Foggy can simply... Let it not be.
It's so painful and love-filled and wrenching. And both actors kill it.

Just started reading Sherlock Holmes and all the adaptations are wrong. This man is a delight. He gets excited about hemoglobin and is ecstatic at the thought of Watson as a roommate. He purposefully forgets how the solar system works so he has more room in his brain for crime. He shows Watson the dirt stains on his trousers and he can tell what part of London they come from based on color and consistency. (As far as i can tell Watson didn't ask, Sherlock just gets back from walks and tells Watson about the stains unprompted.) The text specifically says "Holmes was certainly not a difficult man to live with." Why does every adaptation make him unpleasant and rude, he's literally just eccentric. He's such a goober, I love him.

Books Julian should have given to Garak that he would have actually enjoyed*:
The Sympathizer, Viet Thanh Nguyen. Main character is a spy, deep undercover, immersed in a culture he should by all rights revile and yet finds himself inexplicably drawn to? C’mon now.
The Traitor Baru Cormorant, Seth Dickinson. (See above).
The Orphan Master’s Son, Adam Johnson.
The City and the City, China Miéville.
The Shadow of the Torturer, Gene Wolfe. Garak would find the idea of an interrogator falling in love with their prisoner and putting them out of their misery deeply romantic. Julian is suitably horrified.
Wolf Hall, Hilary Mantel.
Literally anything by John le Carré.
Feel free to add your own!
* IMO he did enjoy a lot of the stuff mentioned in the show and his derision was purely to get a rise out of Julian, but I think the books listed above would have actually blown his tits clean off

When writing Garak, the author must fill themselves with depraved, lustful pining for Julian Bashir.
If one is asexual, or otherwise lacking in such affections towards the dear doctor, picturing a gorgeous behemoth of a sandwich piled high with fresh toppings, thick bread toasted just so, leaking dressing onto its plate and cut in twain, but remaining one dollar short of buying it, is a suitable substitution.

West’s highly emotive Valjean is an excellent study subject for me. (And for others, apparently. We all saw that little once-over, Javert, don’t think you got away with that.)
