LOLL. so on a red carpet a guy yelled shut the fuck up at her and she turned around/pointed at him and said "no YOU shut the fuck up. Not me bitch" and then terminally online twitterers were mad she was mean or whatever and then even more people were like stfu she's incredible. And also another celeb I forget the name of said they knew that guy and he's known for being an absolute shithead that annoys people on red carpets. There's gifs/videos of it and it's so satisfying. I love her for her ability to say whatever she's thinking tbh it's refreshing.
Imagine not liking a female celebrity anymore because you thought she told a man to shut the fuck up? I was a Naomi Campbell stan when she was repeatedly throwing cellphones at her assistants. I was a Tyra Banks stan when she was putting women through the Stanford experience recreation known as American's Next Top Model. I find Azalea Banks hilarious and intelligent when she is recorded slaughtering animals in her house for witchcraft reasons and has said every slur ever invented. Chappell can tell any man she wants to shut the fuck up, provoked and unprovoked. More men need to be told that. The internet just lurk in wait for a reason to hate the latest woman who has gotten popular. They are chomping at the bit to cancel and dogpile on a woman.

My Adoring Fan Chapter 5
Chapter 4
A/N: A bit of a fluffy chapter as the twins make up
As Aurelius entered the kitchen, both Azalea and Mammon turned their heads to him.
“There ya are,” Mammon says as he leans against the island counter. “Only three hours after your Ma called for you, but, hey, at least you came home.”
“You’re not going to yell at me too, are you?” He asks.
“Well, that depends. Do ya know why what ya did was wrong and do ya understand why you’re being punished for it?”
Aurelius nods. “Yes.”
“Then no, there’s nothin’ I need to say that ya probably haven’t heard from your mother already.” The oven dings and Mammon goes to pull the peppers out and places them on a plate for his son. “Here, have somethin’ ta eat before we leave.” Aurelius nods as he grabs a fork and starts eating.
“Leave?” Azalea asks as she looks between them. “Leave where?”
“Home.” The demon says as Azalea looks surprised. “What, you thought we were bluffin’ when we told you two that if you had one more spat like this that we’d be pullin’ one of ya from the house? Your Ma and I can’t keep coming over here every two or three nights to diffuse a situation between the two of ya like this because ya can’t seem ta learn ta get along. An’ since Aurelius started this by going along with Zulima’s hair-brained idea, he has to move back home until we think he’s learned his lesson.”
“So Aurelius gets punished while Zulima gets away scott-free?”
“No, of course not. Solomon was here earlier ta dish out her punishment and Uncle Asmo will be here shortly ta decide how long whatever her punishment was will last and talk with her about why this was wrong in the first place. Their startin’ to get up fed up with her actions too and this is probably your cousin’s last chance ta prove she can shape up before they pull ‘er out of the house too.”
Azalea turns to her brother with an apologetic look.
“I'll let ya have a few minutes ta talk privately and then we’ll be leaving.” The Avatar of Greed steps out since he knows his children won’t honestly speak their minds if someone is listening.
“Listen,” Aurelius says as he leans his head against Azalea’s, the black streaks in their hair pressed together. It’s a thing they’ve done ever since they we little. “I’m really sorry about this. I knew it was wrong and I still did it anyway. Are you still mad at me?”
“A little bit.” The older cambion sighed, “You didn’t send that audio clip to Max, did ya?”
“Yeah, but if it’s any consolation, she didn’t listen to it and deleted it instead. You really should tell her though. I think you’d be really happy. She definitely likes you back.”
“Why did ya do it? I feel so betrayed.”
“I told Mum that I was just bored but really it was because I was getting annoyed with Zulima talking about how much she quote-unquote ships you two and wishes you’d just get together already...”
“I get that. She can be rather persistent.” Azalea sighs. “If that’s the only reason then I guess I really can’t fault ya for it... How long are ya gonna be gone?”
“Until the end of next term. I’m grounded too for taking so long to get back here, so I’m losing my phone and I won’t get to do any photoshoots for the next three months... I’m think of quitting all together when my contract is up actually. The time off will give me a chance to really decide.”
“Majolish is gonna be really mad that they’ve lost their top model,” Azalea laughs softly. “Hey, the reason ya wanna quit is ‘cuz of that letter, right?”
“Yeah, a little bit.” Aurelius hums. “Actually, while I was running from you, I think I met the sender of that letter- well more like I plowed into her as I was running away. She didn’t seem all that crazy and claimed she didn’t know who I was but I don’t know, I got some really weird vibes so I think she was lying.”
“Hey, I just thought of this but doesn’t that girl who hounded you to start a relationship with her reside at the House of Sorrow? Maybe she’s the one who sent that letter so she wouldn’t have any competition for your attention.”
“I didn’t think of that. It would make sense, actually. “Do you think I should write her back and say I know it was her? See if it was really her and give her a chance to come clean?”
“Why don’t ya do it at school? We’re all bound to have classes with her at some point in the day so being able to get her alone and there be no chance for interference sounds like the perfect opportunity. What’s her name? Is she pretty?”
“She introduced herself as Persephone- you know like that greek myth and yeah she is. Funnily enough, she looks a lot like that idol that Henry was crying about earlier. Her hair and eye color are the same shade of grey as that idol’s.”
“That’s really interesting, actually. When I was talking with Henry earlier, I proposed the idea that maybe she was taking a break to enjoy a normal teen life so I wonder if I was right. Maybe this is something you could actually pursue as far as a relationship goes... If she is that idol then she wouldn’t be interested in dating you for our family’s prestige, fame, or money since she has plenty of her own to begin with. I know you’re lonely just like I’m lonely.”
“Well, you’re not wrong,” Aurelius pulled back. “I do want to find a mate eventually, but I also just want to survive RAD first before I start looking. It would be nice to have someone that looks at us in the same way Dad looks at Mum- with nothing but love and adoration but not a lot of demons really like us. They mostly just tolerate our existence.”
“You’ll get that eventually.” Azalea smiled. “I mean I got my person so you should too sooner or later, right?”
“Yeah, we-”
“Aurelius, what’s with this letter you have?” Arella asks as she enters the kitchen. “This really worries me, Sweetheart.”
“I got that today actually and I think I know who sent it, but also I’m starting to suspect she wasn’t actually the one who sent it. I’m going to meet with her at school to clear the air over it.”
“I don’t think that’s a very safe idea, Aurelius. From the verbiage in this letter, she could be stalking you. I know from experience with Dad and Uncle Asmo that people like this will do anything to ensure they're the only ones who have your attention.”
“I promise I’ll be safe, Mum. But I have to find out for sure if it’s her or....” the teen trails off and Arella doesn’t like the sound of that.
“Aurelius, has a classmate been harassing you, Darling?”
“Yeah... I didn’t want to tell you and Dad because I didn’t want to worry you guys... it’s been a thing for a while. You would think after rejecting her for the thousandth time, she would get the hint...”
“What’s been a thing?” Mammon asks as he pops his head in the doorway. “C’mon, Buddy, let’s go home.
“Our son is being harassed by one of his classmates and he didn’t want to tell us for fear of worrying us. Also, he received this rather alarming letter today in the post.”
“What? Lemme see that thing.” He takes the piece of paper in his hands and scans it over, eyebrows raising in alarm. “Aurelius this is not okay. Is this the person whose been botherin’ ya?”
“Maybe...? I can’t really be sure. The implied sender isn’t the person whose been bothering me at school rather a girl that just transferred to RAD but I think it might have been forged by that person so I would avoid the sender at all costs. I want to meet her and confirm whether or not it’s really her.”
“You absolutely will not be doin’ that.”
“Dad I-”
“I said no. Aurelius, ya have no idea how dangerous people like this really are. I’ve had someone like this threaten your mother’s life multiple times back when we had first started officially datin’. Even Uncle Asmo got the same thing when he and Solomon went public with their relationship and other demons found out they had a kid together. I think combined, your uncle and I got close ta a thousand of these types of letters. It got so out of hand that at one point Uncle Lucifer had to step in and deal with it for us. This spells out nothing but trouble for ya and I don’t want ya getting' hurt by some nutcase that has a few bolts loose in the head.”
“Dad, you’re overreact-”
“No, I’m not, you’re not doing this and that’s final. I still have every single one of those letters and I’ll let ya read the worst ones to show ya just how dangerous something like this can get. Believe me when I tell ya this is not something ya want to deal with. And I’m warning you right now. If you get another one of these types of letters, I’m pulling ya out of modeling until you’re at least 1700 years old.”
“But what about my contract? Won’t I get penalized for breaking it?”
“We had a clause put in the fine print that if your father and I felt you were unsafe or were not benefitting from it emotionally or physically for any reason during the term of your contracts, that we had the right to terminate them at any point in time for your safety.” Arella explained.
The teen only sighs. He knows he should listen to his father but there’s something nagging him at the back of his mind. “Alright, I won’t do it.”
“Thank you.” Arella let out a relieved sigh. “We should get going now. It’s late enough as it is and your father and I both have to work in the morning. Give your sister a hug if you wish.”
The twins nodded as they moved to give each other a hug.
“See ya at school, I guess.” Azalea sighed. “Sorry I got ya booted back home.”
“It’s fine. This wouldn’t be happening if I hadn’t started it. Love you.”
“Love you too.” They let each other go and Aurelius headed off with their mother after Azalea gave her a hug goodbye.
“Are ya good ta go back down the stairs in your room without sliding down the railing? Your room is messy and I don’t want ya tripping and hurting yourself over a pile of books. Ask your cousin to help ya clean it tomorrow.”
“I think so. If I need it, I’ll just guilt Zulima inta helping me. She owes me after that trick she organized.”
“Okay,” the demon chuckles as he pulled his daughter into a hug. “I’ll come back ta check on you when I get back from the fourth layer with your brother. Make sure you use that cane, please. It’ll only benefit you, kiddo. I love you.”
She nodded as she let her father go. “Love you too. See ya then...” Azalea watched them go before going to put the plates in the sink and climbing the stairs. She stopped at Max’s doors and knocked, knowing it was about the time she’d be getting ready to bed. When she heard a soft ‘come in’, Azalea pushed opened the door.
“Hey...” She says as she walked in and closed the door. “We should talk...”

Can I ask the same question as the last anon but with the Omega/future gen kids and maybe also Bart, Jamie, Mel, and Donny?
Of course lol 😂
Bart for sure knows he’s attractive, in the chaotic Pan way which Jaime loves. Jaime knows people think he’s hot but he doesn’t always agree.
Donny and Mel are both on this side for different reasons. Donny has some scars, not a lot but a few, that make it hard for him to feel attractive. Plus before Mel he was dating only civilians (who he had to hide his powers from) and that made him insecure with other things. Mel has a lot of body image issues thanks to her father, most of which she works through with a therapist.
Next gen people:
Finn, Sawyer, and Kat most definitely know they’re hot, which they attest to their grandparents 😂 they grew up with Luca and Matt teaching them that being attractive is personality more than looks. They just happen to have both.
The baby dolls and Luke know…but that doesn’t stop the girls from bickering over who’s the prettier twin…even though they’re identical.
Ziva is too busy running science experiments to care. People have told her and her response is usually “and?”
Roro and Aza grew up with their mothers teaching them ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder.’ They both know they’re attractive, but Azalea doesn’t have the confidence to try a whole lot of out their looks. Roro, again, doesn’t care…unless you’re an asshole in which case she’ll make it her mission to make your day miserable.
Asha definitely knows and, like the Best boy kids, says she had great genes.
Ben and Max grew up with Milagro teaching them how to feel confident in themselves, to celebrate their individual looks, and to dress like themselves, whoever that is at the moment. Ben also grew up with family telling him he has the most beautiful eyes (hetero chromia). Max definitely likes his clothing style more.
The Kent kids are interesting—
Charlie has a lot of burn scars on her back from Cadmus, which she hates letting people see even family. For her to let the scar show around people is a big trust thing.
Peter knows he’s attractive in the artistic sense, like the Davinci model thing, but he has a lot of issue with his body because of past trauma.
M&M has a scar on her sternum from heart surgery she had as a kid (who wants those headcannons?), but isn’t insecure about it. It’s a part of her story and she is better than ever.
Laney knows she’s attractive, thank you genes, but the issue lies with her overall relationship with her body. She is still affected by Kryptonite even though she doesn’t have Jon or Mar’i’s powers. Cadmus presses a piece of it against her skin and it left a burn on her stomach. It’s something that makes things complicated, really

(this next one is all in first person which i am NOT used to writing in but...)
Part 1: The Basics
What is your full name?--Rosemary Nare Etana
Where and when were you born?--I was born on July 30th in a large city in the Common Realm, however we moved to a small town shortly after I was born.
Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)--
Lily Etana was my mother’s name. She worked several jobs while raising us, like waitressing and being a maid. She was very kind too, but a lot of people took advantage of her for that. I guess that’s why Val and I have taken to being aggressive about how we feel, and aggressive in sticking up for her. When I was 12, an assassin killed her and gave me the scar across my back. I’m sure he was sent by my grandparents, but they played the fool and even sent an advisor to her funeral. Since then, that advisor has scheduled meetings with me monthly to make sure I haven’t told anyone.
My father’s name is Andranik Typhos the fourth? something like that, but I don’t know very much about him. I know he’s a noble, but I’ve never met him. I don’t hear that many complaints about him, and Mother says he was a wonderful gentleman, but I’ve met his parents, and I find it hard to believe that they would raise a lovely son.
Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?--I have four! On my mom’s side, at least.
Valerian is the oldest. He’s sixteen years older than me, so he’s a lot more mature than me, and very protective of us younger siblings. He has three kids, too, and his wife is Eli’s cousin. They have been married since I was only three, so she’s been in our lives forever. The two of them basically became my parents after our mother died, so I couldn’t be more grateful to them.
Then is Dahlia. Dahlia is 12 years older than me. She’s very calm, and there have been more than a few times where Valerian has been freaking out and Dahlia always keeps her cool and fixes the problem. She’s the best at makeup.
Basil is in the direct middle, and they’re 9 years older than me. They are very energetic and mischievous. I don’t think Basil wants a spouse, but they’re very dedicated to their craft. I blame them for the multiple scams of my father’s estate, but who’s complaining? Basil also has a scar along their right cheek, running from their nose to their chin
Azalea is the closest to my age, she’s 25. She’s a lot like our mom. She treats everyone with kindness, but I worry about people taking advantage of her for that.
Also, I know that my father has two children younger than me with his wife, but I’ve never met them and I probably never will.
Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.--I live with the Black Bulls! The base is really crazy and always changing, but there’s always something going on, so everyday is fun.
What is your occupation?--I’m a Magic Knight, but I have also worked some other jobs in the past.
Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks--I’m 5′5, and around 150lbs. My skin is pale, so I tend to burn very easily, and my eyes are yellow and my hair is pink. I like to wear warm colors and clothes that aren’t very tight, as well as boots. I have two large scars, one is about three inches and is a slash along my stomach, while the other one is about eight inches long and runs across my upper back, both from assassination attempts. I try to hide both of them. I also have one tattoo on my lower calf, so it’s usually covered.
To which social class do you belong?--I believe I’m considered a commoner. I likely wouldn’t be considered a noble unless something happened to my father’s legitimate children, though I have no interest in being taken in by his family.
Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?—I get nosebleeds often because of an injury when i was younger.
Are you right- or left-handed?—right handed
What does your voice sound like?—If I had to describe it, I’d say it’s medium in pitch and kind of airy.
What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?--nothing particularly?
What do you have in your pockets?—um. a handful of flowers, a pocket watch, and assorted candies.
Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?—I sometimes bite my nails.
Part 2: Growing Up
How would you describe your childhood in general?--Average for the most part, I’d say. I had a loving mother and 4 great siblings. Still, my mother’s death hit all of us very hard.
What is your earliest memory?--Sadly, my first assassination attempt. That one was when I was around five and it was sent by my father’s family. It gave me the scar on my stomach, and also gave Basil the scar on their face from them protecting me.
How much schooling have you had?--I went to the small schoolhouse in town up until I was 12, and then I started going less so I could work more.
Did you enjoy school?--I enjoyed learning, but I’ve found that I learn more outside of school.
Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?--I learned basic first aid and how to identify certain plants and herbs from my siblings. I mostly learned battle from experience and assassins.
While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.—my siblings, especially Basil
While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?--We all got along very well as kids, though they were all a lot older than me so that did strain our relationships a bit, especially as the youngest.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?--As a child I wanted to work in medicine, even though my magic is ill suited for it. I only decided that I wanted to become a Magic Knight after my mother’s death.
As a child, what were your favorite activities?—i used to love helping my mother garden.
As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?--I cried a lot more than I do now. I was always scared, as I knew from a young age that my father’s parents wanted me dead.
As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?--My only friend was really Eli, but she hung out with all the kids from town, so i vaguely knew them.
When and with whom was your first kiss?--also Eli, when we were about 12 and 13.
Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?--I’m not. After Eli left town I kind of lost myself for the next two years until I became a knight.
Part 3: Past Influences
What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?--My mother's death perhaps?
Who has had the most influence on you?--Eli. I think if not for her, I would be a very different person.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?--The amount of nobles I’ve insulted to their faces on official magic knight business.
What is your greatest regret?--being born.
What is the most evil thing you have ever done?--I don’t think I’ve ever done anything “evil”, only some malicious things, but I don’t regret them.
Do you have a criminal record of any kind?--No, but I probably should for extortion.
When was the time you were the most frightened?--The first attempt on my life.
What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?--My elder brother catching me lying about my profession.
If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?—i would be stronger.
What is your best memory?—probably the first few months with the black bulls. It was genuine happiness for the first time in a while.
What is your worst memory?—the aftermath of my mother’s death. I don’t remember the actual event, some mix of trauma and head injuries, but I do remember the weeks following.
Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions
Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?—i think i’m more pessimistic, but i'm trying to be an optimist.
What is your greatest fear?--My greatest fear is once again being too weak to protect the people that I love.
What are your religious views?--I’m not religious.
What are your political views?--I think that the Clover Kingdom’s nobility is corrupt, and the whole system needs to be fixed.
What are your views on sex?--I think nothing much of it.
Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?--I think I’m a hypocrite on this. I think killing is unacceptable, but I wouldn’t hesitate to kill the people that harm the ones I love.
In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?--In my opinion, the most evil thing one can do is to habitually hurt and abuse others.
Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?--No. I don’t think that anything like that is real.
What do you believe makes a successful life?--I think that money plays a large part of success.
How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?--Very open. My emotions are very easily read.
Do you have any biases or prejudices?--Yeah i hate nobles.
Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?--I try to stay out of the public eye as best I can. I also refuse to do jobs near my grandparents’ home.
Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?--Finral or Eli. I’d do anything for them.
Part 5: Relationships With Others
In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?—I try to keep people at a distance, but when I become close to someone, they become one of my People. I’d do anything for the people I’m close to.
Who is the most important person in your life, and why?--Right now, it’s probably Eli or Finral. They’ve positively affected me in more ways than I can count.
Who is the person you respect the most, and why?—Captain Yami is the person I respect the most. Joining the Black Bulls changed my life so much for the better, and I’m so grateful that he gave me that opportunity.
Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people—Eli is my best friend. She’s loud and always smiling, but I worry about her. I’m also pretty close to Magna. He’s a great friend and brings out my mischievous side more.
Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.--Finral is great. He’s a little goofy, but he is very loyal and loving.
Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.--I think I’m in love right now.
How close are you to your family?--I’m very close to my older siblings.
Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?--No. I think I’d like to at some point be a mother, but not for a while longer.
Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?--I think I would find it hard to turn to anyone, but if I was so desperate, probably Eli or Magna. I’m too afraid to show Finral my weakness.
Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?--No. I need to be strong enough to protect myself.
If you died or went missing, who would miss you?--I think that the bulls would.
Who is the person you despise the most, and why?--My father. My mother spoke kindly of him, but he abandoned her.
Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?--I argue more.
Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?—depends who I'm with, but I’m more likely to take a leadership role.
Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?—I’d prefer a smaller group, personally, but i’m not bad with large groups.
Do you care what others think of you?—yes. immensely
Part 6: Likes And Dislikes
What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?--I enjoy reading romance novels, and spending time in nature. Flower fields remind me of home and give me comfort.
What is your most treasured possession?—my pocket watch. my mother gave it to me, since it was a gift to her from my father.
What is your favorite color?—i like warm pale yellow
What is your favorite food?—I like crepes!
What, if anything, do you like to read?—I like to read romance.
What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?--I enjoy reading. On days off, I often spend hours at a time sitting outside and reading.
Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?—I generally don’t, but I will drink sometimes. I probably drink an average amount.
How do you spend a typical Saturday night?—generally hanging around the Bulls hideout. If I have a day off I often go visit home to see my mother’s grave and give her flowers.
What makes you laugh?—My squadmates! I’ve been told my sense of humor is bad..
What, if anything, shocks or offends you?--I hate the prejudices of the Clover nobles.
What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?—When that happens (because it has before) I will usually walk around the base, sometimes I eat a snack. I also like to head outside and look at the stars when I can’t sleep.
How do you deal with stress?—I will usually end up letting it out, whether emotionally or magically. I don't like to bottle things up.
Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?—I prefer having a plan.
What are your pet peeves?—people talking over others.
Part 7: Self Images And Etc.
Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?--I wake up at about 7 every morning, and get ready for the day. If I have a mission, I’ll leave for it early. On days I don’t have a mission, I will either go visit my mother’s grave or go see my grandparents or their advisor.
What is your greatest strength as a person?--I’d say my strength is supporting people. And also throwing lava.
What is your greatest weakness?--I lie a bit too much, and I am a bit indifferent towards people I don’t care about.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?--I would want to be more caring.
Are you generally introverted or extroverted?--I’d say introvert.
Are you generally organized or messy?--Organized. I don’t like disorder.
Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.--I’m good at lying, cleaning, and fighting. I’m bad at controlling my emotions, sewing, and cooking.
Do you like yourself?--No, I really don’t.
What are your reasons for being a magic knight*? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…)--I am a magic knight because I want to protect people.
What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?--I want to heal from my past.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?--I hope to still be a Magic Knight, and hopefully a higher rank.
If you could choose, how would you want to die?--I would want to die swiftly if I could choose.
If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.--I would try to isolate myself from the people I love, so that they wouldn’t have to deal with grief. I think I would generally be calm.
What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?--I want to be remembered for my strength.
What three words best describe your personality?--open. loyal. decisive.
What three words would others probably use to describe you?--Rosie is loyal, smart, and loving!!-Eli

TO PLANT their flower and vegetable gardens, African American women used their hands—darkly creviced or smoothly freckled; their arms—some wiry, others muscled; and their shoulders and backs—one broad and another thin. They dropped small seeds into the soil with their veined hands. They wrapped their arms around freshly cut flowers to decorate tables in their homes. They bent their shoulders and backs to compost hay, manure, and field stubble, and transplanted plants from the woods into their own yards. These women developed a unique set of perspectives on the environment by way of the gardens they grew as slaves and then as freedwomen.
They continued these practices and exercised these perspectives into the early twentieth century. Rural African American women then joined these traditional ways of gardening with horticultural practices they learned from Home Demonstration Service agents and from the special programs developed in African American schools in the South.
An examination of these traditions and practices of gardening changes the reading scholars have had of African American participation in Progressive-era agricultural reform and also reveals the outlines of a rural African American environmental perspective at the time. Progressives envisioned national agricultural reforms that subjugated the discrete and nuanced expertise of local actors to models of bureaucratic efficiency and skill. Yet African American women developed an expertise from community knowledge, from their own interpretations of agricultural reforms, and from the training they received in horticulture in the Cooperative Extension Service, African American schools and other places. Progressive era scholars have missed the critical role of African American women gardeners in Progressive reform efforts, or at least have not viewed the participation of African Americans in these efforts through the critical lens of gender.2
These women cultivated with simple tools, a hoe, trowel, or shovel in one hand and seeds or fertilizer in the other hand. But they gardened within a gendered and racial milieu that gave the application of these simple instruments of skill a complex social potency. Rural African American women and men often supported one another in complementary roles and with strategies that were designed to support the family unit. Some women met their own and sometimes their family’s needs by harvesting vegetables for meals, and by planting shrubs and cultivating flowers to create more appealing homes.
The value of the women’s contributions to household productivity was often invisible to Progressive reformers, who practiced enormous condescension in their efforts to uplift the poor. African American reformers shared this condescension, making women special objects of disdain. Thomas Monroe Campbell, an agent for the Negro Cooperative Service, was haughtily dismissive of rural women, characterizing them as “too careless as to the loud manner in which they act in the streets and in public places ... and unduly familiar with men.”
But ultimately, African American women in the rural South controlled how and where they gardened, and by implication, why they gardened. They drew upon rich traditions of gardening knowledge and took what they would from Home Demonstration Work and the education programs of African American schools. This article explores this relationship between African American gardening and Progressive reform, but also asks how African American women cultivated their own gardens. Were African American women’s gardens expressions of self-interest or community experience and values, or both? Did the women blend community and Progressive influences in the gardens they made and used? How did the gardening practices of African American women in the early twentieth century rural South add up to an environmental ethic?3

THE AFRICAN AMERICAN GARDEN
AFRICAN AMERICAN and Euro-American gardens also possessed distinctive characteristics much like the roles of African American men and women. Though Vera Norwood argues that women of both groups were “responsible for designing and maintaining the yard and its ornamental garden” according to gender, ethnicity was as important as gender in shaping the unique gardens of African Americans. These featured flowers, shrubs, trees, and plants that were purchased individually, accepted as gifts, or cultivated from cuttings. African Americans created colorful motifs from gifts and cast-offs. Euro-Americans could more readily buy several plants and group and organize them.
African Americans relied on an oral tradition, unlike Euro-Americans whose expertise came from magazines and books. African American traditions were so ingrained that plants presented as gifts were associated with the giver.7African American women manipulated and controlled their yards for multiple functions in slavery and then in freedom. Free range in which livestock could roam, or a pen, an extended kitchen from the house, cleaning and leisure spaces, swept areas, and pathways to the fields, woods, the slaveholder’s house, and fenced flower and vegetable gardens comprised overlapping spaces in the yard. Each function, each space was often fluid with little or no boundaries.
Unlike most slaves, renters and owner-operators had some income and could purchase livestock, including chickens and hogs that were given free range of the yard. The women sought the shade and protection of trees from the sun and heat to prepare meals, feed and entertain family and friends, scrape pots, scrub dishes, wipe tables, beat rugs, and launder clothing. Children played and adults sought recreation throughout the yard, particularly in the shade. Outside the green spaces, women carefully swept clean any foliage, including weeds, creating a bare and austere yard.
The pathways took the women beyond their homes and yards to the environs of the woods, fields, the big house, neighbors, and town.8 In these gardens, African American women planted vegetables, fruit, flowers, shrubs, trees, and plants in red clay, sandy, and dark loamy soils. They generally cultivated vegetable gardens on a side or to the back of the cabin for easy access. To keep out livestock, their partners probably built enclosures of tied stakes for gardens—less expensive than free range. Most women grew vegetable gardens primarily to sustain their families.
[...]
They planted okra, milo, eggplant, collards, watermelon, white yam, peas, tomatoes, beans, squash, red peppers, onions, cabbage, potatoes and sweet potatoes. Others planted truck gardens and sold corn, cotton, peanuts, sweet potatoes, tobacco, indigo, watermelons, and gourds at the market for profit. African Americans also displayed flowers for everyone’s viewing and pleasure, beckoning neighbors to take a closer look or visitors to chat in the yard’s fragrance and color.
The women looked out upon exquisite flowers including petunias, buttercups, verbenas, day lilies, cannas, chrysanthemums, iris, and phlox planted in the ground, old tires, bottles, planters, and tubs. They placed shrubs—roses, azaleas, altheas, forsythia, crepe myrtle, spirea, camellias, nandina, and wild honeysuckle—throughout the yard. Azaleas and roses were most commonly planted. The dogwood, oak, chestnut, pine, red maple, black locust, sassafras, hickory, willow, cottonwood, and redbud dotted the landscape. They chose ornamental plants that were self-propagating, along with annuals that were generally self-seeding.
Colorful combinations of blues, reds, pinks, oranges, whites, and yellow often clashed with little or no sequencing. Placement was generally informal, where the gardeners could find space. A mix of color and placement resulted in a lack of symmetry and formal design. African Americans, including the women, simply could not afford to buy several shrubs, plants or flowers at the same time to create such symmetry.9 Women’s roles were transformed from slavery to sharecropping. Jacqueline Jones observes that African American men reinforced gender roles by hunting and fishing during slavery. Men were primarily responsible for cultivating the tiny household garden plots allotted to families by the slaveholder.
They practiced conservation, tilling their own vegetable plots when time off from the slaveholder’s tasks allowed. Dating back to the antebellum period, slaves used organic farm methods such as composting, when they took or were given the opportunity to grow their own gardens. A Louisiana slave gardener also built birdhouses from hollowed gourds to attract nesting birds that protected vegetables from insects and other pests. The birdhouses, a modern fixture in suburban backyards, provided shelter for the birds that served as a natural pest control.
[...]
GARDENING IN AFRICAN AMERICAN SCHOOLS:
African American schools offered several options to their students including model yards and classes with practical and aesthetic applications. The school trained students on school grounds by cultivating model yards for teaching and profit. The model yards featured traditional elements found in a rural African American culture, including gardens, livestock, and laundering. Schools like Tuskegee and Hampton Institute also offered home economics classes, which included gardening training for women, and an agricultural curriculum for men. Most significantly, African American women teachers taught other women to cultivate aesthetically pleasing gardens.
Some applied their training to teach at secondary schools. In 1937, the African American Elizabeth City State Normal Summer School in North Carolina offered a class in housing titled, “The Rural Community Background and Rural School Organization and Management,” which emphasized home and yard aesthetics in the curriculum, and suggested “ways and means of making rural life more attractive and joyous to those who live in the open country.” Students sketched “attractive lawns and backyards and [gave]suggestions of what native shrubbery to use and when to transplant it” in this class.
They created images of nature in their art and searched the woods for plants to dig up, carry home, and replant.27 Progressive influences continued at Hampton which offered to African American women courses with aesthetics in mind, ranging from “Flower Arrangement” to “Landscape Design” in the “Curriculum for the Division of Agriculture.” These courses nurtured creativity through symmetry and beauty. Hampton also offered “Flower Arrangement” and “Flower Growing for Amateurs”— classes focusing on aesthetics and scientific housekeeping already practiced in the community and Home Demonstration.
In the flower arranging class, teachers taught “the fascinating art of flower arrangement [that] provides a medium of expression universal in appeal. Students in all divisions of the Institute will find value in learning to utilize plant materials in home, store, school, or office decoration.” Instructors demonstrated “the necessary methods involved in knowing and growing ornamental plants commonly used about the home can well be learned with study and practice” in “Flower Growing.” As teachers, Home Demonstration agents, or homemakers, women applied scientific housekeeping to gardening.28Hampton also offered classes in advanced gardening.
Teachers there taught “Ornamental Horticulture,” a course general enough in scope for the layperson and the horticulturist. Students, both men and women, learned to arrange and enhance “the homes and grounds and larger properties in order to make them more useful as well as attractive” while “growing and caring for trees, shrubs, and flowers as a commercial enterprise or as a hobby.” One of the courses, "Landscape Design of Small Properties,” was more advanced than basic flower planting and arranging, and taught vegetable gardening with an emphasis on aesthetics: “Landscaping one’s own home or school grounds is an economy and a pleasure as well as an art.
Teachers, community workers, and home owners alike will find it much to their advantage to be able to improve their surroundings in their respective communities.” In the “Landscape Gardening” class, students learned “the practical methods of beautifying grounds around the buildings, the construction of wind breaks, placing ornamental flower beds, laying out walks, planting trees and shrubs, arranging and planting window boxes.” Once again,African Americans had the opportunity to layer Progressive horticultural education upon community experiences.29

Dying Dream Cast Directory
A helpful guide to remind you about the main crew of the Hopeless Pirates and their basic info stuffs. Keep in mind, names are done the Japanese way. So, Last name/middle initial/ first name
Also, there are spoilers in here for all people who are not caught up with the story. Read at your own risk.
Captain:
Gol D. Maven
Nickname/known as: Maven/ Usurper Maven/ “Momma Maven”/ Big Sis Maven
Age: 20 (at the beginning of Canon)
Disease: Usurper’s Syndrome. A terminal illness that is continual, and progressively aggressive, muscle degradation. Combats this disease by building muscle faster than it can degrade, leading to painfully slow increase in strength and low muscle mass on her body.
Appearance: Like a gender-swapped Ace essentially. Small chest, much wider waist than typical for OP characters. Clearly defined abs, lithe but defined muscles on arms and legs. She is not thickly built, her disease keeping her from being “bulky” and making her body remain rather lanky despite the strength on it. About 6′1″, long wavy black hair that goes down to her butt and is extremely wild and untamed. Freckles on her face that add a slight childish appearance to her face, and sleepy looking gray eyes. Always carries Stormfall, a large battle axe/halberd with a purple metal butterfly-winged blade. Stormfall is over six and a half feet tall, so the blade is always poking above Maven’s head a bit.
First Mate:
Nymph Katylan
Nickname/Known as: Katie/ Dark Nymph Katylan
Age: two years younger than Maven.
Disease: Unnamed terminal immunodeficiency, alluded to being like AIDS.
Appearance: Stereotypical blond rich-girl appearance. Classic OP-girl physique, with large bust and small waist. Straight gold-blond hair that falls a few inches past her shoulders, and large sapphire-blue eyes. Commonly wears light colored sundresses with exercise shorts underneath just incase she fights, so there is never an indecent moment. She is also the Helmsman and Archer for the crew, and uses an ivory-white recurve bow made by Kilik. The center of the bow can change lengths, controlling the strength and range of the bow. Average female height of about 5′7″
Navigator (Original):
Linral
Nickname/Known as: Rabid Linral/ Lin
Age: 18 at death
Disease: Unnamed cancer, alluded to being more than just one type as it is “everywhere.”
Appearance: Short tomboy, but with classic OP-girl body. She had short silver-white hair cut in a boyish pixie cut, and bright emerald-green eyes that she took pride in. Her body was littered with small scars, though not so many as to keep guys from blatantly trying to flirt with her. As stated earlier, she was very short-- just barely over five feet tall. Primarily a brawler, she had slightly more defined muscles than even Maven, considering Lin’s own disease didn't effect her muscle mass. Usually wore boy’s sports shorts and a grey or black tank top.
Weaponsmith (Original):
Kilik
Nickname/Known as: Kilik/ (I couldn’t remember/find his pirate name, so I made a new one up) Killing Steel Kilik
Age: 21 at death
Disease: Due to being unwillingly experimented on, his body developed the ability to produce its own organic poison straight into his own bloodstream. It never stopped his production, and production sped up over time. Too high of a concentration, and it would be fatal.
Appearance: About 5′10″, with fluffy cinnamon-brown hair that is on the long side, almost brushing his shoulders, and chocolate brown eyes. He is somewhat lanky, not muscular but with his own brand of lithe strength. Overall boyish, with most of his muscle mass being centered in his arms without being bulky, because of his occupation as a blacksmith. Also a swordsman. Known for creating a bunch of really wacky, weirdly-designed “swords” and other weapons in an attempt to find his own unique sword style. He finally did, after making round “swords” in the shape of clocks. Usually wore a simple black or mustard-yellow t-shirt and dark jeans with brown or denim overalls.
Doctor:
Razdall
Nickname/Known as: Raz/ Misery’s Herbalist Razdall
Age: 24 at the start of Canon
Disease: Unnamed heart condition, makes him extremely susceptible to spikes in blood pressure and heart rate. Weak heart.
Appearance: About 6′0, with short but messy purple hair. Gray eyes the same shade as Maven’s, but instead of having narrow eyes like she does his just look perpetually bored. His body is pretty lanky, and since he isn’t a fighter he doesn’t have much muscle mass at all. he has a slight, perpetual slouch and usually wears a black or dark purple turtleneck with black, slightly baggy pants and a lab coat with the Hopeless Pirate jolly roger on the back. Never seen without a utility belt laden with different pouches, orbs, and syringes full of his battle-ready herbal concoctions.
Seamstress:
Yalla
Nickname/Known as: Yalla/ Pretty Ninja Yalla (at least I think that’s what I went with as her pirate name... I can’t remember/ find it >.<)
Age: 15 at the start of Canon
Disease: Assassin’s syndrome. Similar to Usurper’s, but instead of muscle it is a constant degradation of organs in the body.
Appearance: A cutsey girly-girl, she has bubblegum-pink hair and bright golden yellow eyes. Originally she wore her hair up in constant long pigtails, but she started to wear it down after Kilik’s death. It reaches her knees when left down. She usually wears a frilly pink, gold, and black kimono that is cropped around the knee with sunflower-yellow boy shorts underneath incase any incidents occur. The kimono has three-quarter sleeves instead of the traditional long sleeves. She pairs it with flip-flops or goes barefoot. Still growing, she is relatively short at about 5′4″. She ate the Ribbon-Ribbon fruit and grew up as an acrobat in a circus, so she is not only very nimble and usually fights aerially, but she can turn her body into ribbons.
Shipwright:
Gino
Nickname/Known as: Gino/ Black Thorn Gino
Age: mid-thirties by Canon
Disease: Akui Hanahaki. Like the Hanahaki in other stories, this disease grows flowers in and off of the victim’s lungs, causing them to hack up flowers and leaves from it as the disease progresses. Unlike the normal mythical disease, this one is caused by hatred from a loved one rather than unrequited love. The only cure is being forgiven, but the person whose hatred caused Gino’ s illness is dead so it is officially terminal for him. He coughs up black roses.
Appearance: A large tiger-shark fishman, he clocks in at about 7′7″ and has greyish-blue skin with subtle grey stripes down his back and the back of his bald head, and partially over his shoulders and the back of his upper arms. Usually wears a black or dark grey tank top and black cargo pants or cargo shorts. He fights with spiked iron knuckles, and (spoiler alert) gets them upgraded to Seastone spiked knuckles after the Magician arc. He is very bulky, unlike the majority of the crew. Classic body of a thug/body builder type, with bulging biceps, very well-muscled chest/torso, and several tattoos.
Dancer:
Synalla
Nickname/Known as: Synalla/ “Crew Grandma”/ Slice-Dancer Synalla
Age: Late twenties by Canon. About 28 or 29..?
Disease: Unnamed lung disease. Fashioned a bit after Cystic Fibrosis, but obviously made into a fantasy terminal illness.
Appearance: She is a Snakeneck, and from her feet to the top of her head she is about 11′4″, with her neck by itself taking up almost half of that. Her body, like with most Snakenecks, is naturally lithe and lanky. Her hair is jet black, and goes down the entirety of her over-four-foot neck in sharp zig-zags that for some reason never lose shape. She dresses like a tango dancer almost constantly, in long brightly colored Mexican-styled dresses that end at her ankle and matching flats. She fights with tessen, or bladed war fans. She dances with them, too. She is naturally maternal and tends to mother hen, earning herself the nickname “Granny” or “Grandma” within the crew.
Scout/ Navigator (new):
Cala
Nickname/Known as: Cala/ Lynx Cala
Age: about 26 by the start of Canon
Disease: Nature’s wrath syndrome, another disease similar to Usurper’s and Assassin’s syndrome. This version is constant degradation of the bones and severe calcium deficiency/the body burns through calcium at a really fast rate.
Appearance: Is it even a surprise by now? Cala is lanky, as apparently most of the rest of the crew omfg where is my originality at? But to the point of being almost bony. He has very short-cropped blue hair, buzzed but not shaved. He ate the cat-cat model: Lynx fruit, and can change into a lynx. He is incredibly frail because of his disease and tends to stay out of fights unless absolutely necessary (I have bones of glass, and paper skin...) But he makes an excellent scout and spy with his enhanced senses from his Zoan fruit. He, uh. honestly I haven’t put much thought into his wardobe. He’s a bony cat dude. Probably wears long blue basketball shorts and goes shirtless half the time honestly, idk.
Crew Hypnotist..? I honestly don't know this guy’s role, I think he’s just a combatant/ bums out on the Dream honestly.
Dyan
Nickname/Known as: Dyan/ King Dyan/ Deranged Prince Dyan (Pirate nickname)
Age: idk if I put a solid age for him, but he’d be about 40 by the start of Canon
Disease: Similar to Kilik, Dyan’s blood itself is mutating and becoming toxic to itself. There is no known cure.
Appearance: He ate the child-child fruit, so he looks to be about 10 years old instead of his true age. He has spiky dark green hair, and is about 4′3″. He has a child’s body, so no real visible muscle mass or anything. He did used to be the King of the Ceres kingdom though, so he is constantly dressed in high quality clothes and somehow always looks like a stereotypical child prince/ rich brat. His devil fruit hypnotizes people along with making him stay in a child’s body, but you can read more about his devil fruit in the story itself.
Magician
Azalea
Nickname/Known as: Azalea/ Scarlet Magician Azalea
Age: I don’t remember if I gave her an exact age, but we’ll say 23 by Canon
Disease: Cancer (sound familiar? (;) Cured by Trafalgar Law.
Appearance: about 5′9″, with bright, vibrant red hair in an asymmetrical pixie cut that she is just now beginning to grow out. Classic OP-girl body, but with muscular legs that most people seem to not notice. She is a magician, and as such is always wearing a maroon suit jacket, black slacks, and a bowtie. She has a flair for the dramatic. whatever she wears, she is always stylish. She does, in fact, have a magic wand that she uses occasionally. sporty-cute-girl. OH yeah, she has the feel-feel fruit and can sense everyone’s emotions and shit
I think that’s it for the Dying Dream crew. Whoo that took a while. There ya go!

AZALEA Models Adelaide
Review from a former AZALEA Model This post is in defence for the amazing ladies behind AZALEA Models, about the old horrible Tumblr page ‘AZALEA MODELS FACTS’ which was set up by a threatened competitor of the agency that is no longer around. Stacey and Anne work so hard to give their girls a place that protects them while launching their careers and finding them work. I don’t model anymore because I am in Uni and working full time, but I remain on very good terms with my old bookers and respect what they do everyday so much. I am very passionate about the industry and the fact that these two women did not deserve the other blog made about them. The other blog was spiteful and all ‘facts’ were completely made up from thin air! AZALEA Models only launched five years ago and have some of the best girls in Adelaide. If they were so ‘horrible’ then they wouldn’t have these girls would they? They wouldn’t stay around and they wouldn’t be such good friends with their bookers. My experience with AZALEA was nothing but positive, I was always paid from my jobs, they only took 20% commission which is industry standard and I was never called fat or torn down like what you’d usually expect in this industry. The fact that a competitor made up an anon hate blog about them just shows how much they have been threatened by them, and it makes me really sad.

Taylor Swift’s Feud With Scooter Braun Spotlights Musicians’ Struggles to Own Their Work
Prince, Janet Jackson and Jay-Z all fought to control their master recordings. In a blog post about the sale of her former record label, Swift put her personal spin on the issue.
By Ben Sisario and Joe Coscarelli July 1, 2019
It is one of the oldest and hardest lessons of the music industry: No matter how successful artists may be, chances are someone else owns their work.
Prince, protesting how his label, Warner Bros., had control over his master recordings, quipped in 1996: “If you don’t own your masters, your master owns you.” That same year, when Janet Jackson negotiated a landmark contract with Virgin Records, ownership of her original recordings was a major deal point.
Now we can add Taylor Swift to the chorus of artists who have bemoaned that their creative work is someone else’s property, as she once again used her social-media megaphone to stir debate about the inner workings of the music industry.
In a Tumblr post on Sunday, Swift responded bitterly to the news that her former label, Big Machine, had been sold for more than $300 million to a company run by Scooter Braun, the manager of pop stars including Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.
Swift had strong personal objections to the deal, which included the rights to her first six albums, blaming Braun for orchestrating “incessant, manipulative bullying” against her by Kanye West, an on-and-off client.
But the episode also highlighted the fraught and little-understood industry politics of master recordings — the original copies of an artist’s work — and the copyrights associated with them.
The owner of a master controls all rights to exploit it, including selling albums or licensing songs for movies or video games. The artist still earns royalties from those recordings once associated costs are fulfilled, but controlling the master could bring greater income, as well as a level of protection over how the work is used in the future. (These rights are separate from copyrights for songwriting.)
The deep significance that musicians attach to their masters was highlighted last month, when a group of artists sued the Universal Music Group over a fire in 2008 that destroyed many original recordings, after an exposé was published in The New York Times Magazine.
Historically, record companies have retained rights to masters in exchange for the financial risks they take in backing an artist over the course of their contract.
“Fundamentally, the business model that most record companies operate under is not unlike the venture capital business,” said Larry Miller, the director of the music business program at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development.
“They make investments in unproven talent,” he added. “The trade is that, traditionally, the masters stay with the record company.”
Swift, despite appearing to have an almost unrivaled level of self-determination as a star — like single-handedly getting Apple to change a royalties policy in 2015 — signed such a deal with Big Machine in 2005, at the beginning of her career. Her post on Sunday was partly an admonishment to young artists to avoid those kinds of contracts.
“This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept,” Swift wrote, in a jab at Big Machine’s founder, Scott Borchetta.
Hours later, Borchetta posted a rejoinder, including a snippet of a deal proposal, that suggested that Swift could have earned her recording rights back had she renewed with Big Machine last year. Instead, she signed with Universal. (Her next album, “Lover,” is due in August.)
Borchetta also called into question Swift’s claim that she only learned of the deal once the news broke — he said he texted her the night before — and noted that her father, Scott Swift, was a minority shareholder in Big Machine.
The barbs between Swift and Borchetta, a rare example of such contractual dirty laundry being aired outside of litigation, captivated the industry and raised questions about the age-old power dynamic between artist and label.
“This kind of deal is neither unusual or controversial,” the media mogul David Geffen said. “She didn’t want to put up $300 million. Someone else did. They offered her a deal that she rejected to get ownership of her masters. Only time will tell who made the wise decision.”
Geffen, whom Braun has frequently described as a mentor, added: “I’m betting that Scooter will build an important company with the addition of this asset.”
Steve Stoute, a music and advertising executive whose new company, UnitedMasters, allows artists to keep their rights, saw the Swift episode as a painful illustration of what he called “the fundamental problem with the record industry.”
“The record business historically runs the same business model as sharecropping,” Stoute said. “You build it; we make you think that you own it; you act like you own it; but at the end of the day, we own it.”
The battle between Swift and Braun also divided celebrities on social media, as accusations of exploitation intermingled with personal loyalties.
Some of Braun’s clients, like Bieber and Demi Lovato, defended his personal character. “I have dealt with bad people in this industry and Scooter is not one of them,” Lovato wrote on Instagram.
But other female artists took Swift’s lead as an opportunity to discuss their own experiences in a business that has long faced criticism for its treatment of many creators, especially young women and people of color.
“I signed contracts when I was 15 & I’m still paying the consequences for it,” the singer Sky Ferreira, now 26, wrote on Instagram after pointing people to Swift’s blog post. “Insisting on your rights, value & ownership doesn’t make you difficult.” She added: “Just because this system has been the same for decades doesn’t mean it’s okay or you need to bow down to it.”
In a statement expressing support for Swift, the pop singer Halsey wrote: “it turns my guts that no matter how much power or success a woman has in this life, you are still susceptible to someone coming along and making you feel powerless out of spite.” Alessia Cara chimed in: “stop stealing from women who work hard!!!”
And the rapper Iggy Azalea, while interacting with fans on Twitter, added: “this is why I’m so happy to own my master for this new album, they really do ppl crazy dirty on ownership of their intellectual property in the biz.” After years of limbo on major labels, Azalea recently announced a deal with the distributor Empire that gave her ownership of her recordings.
Tension over the ownership of recordings is nearly as old as the industry, but it has gained momentum as superstar artists have exerted greater control — typically after years of work. Prince rebelled against Warner Bros. in the mid-1990s, after nearly two decades of hits. And when Jay-Z became president and chief executive of the Def Jam label in 2004, he insisted on earning back control of his masters on that label.
The industry’s shift to streaming has begun to change the dynamic between artists and labels, which once held exceptional leverage through their ability to market albums and promote songs to radio stations. Given this change, some younger artists have leaned toward autonomy.
The singer and rapper XXXTentacion, for example, who was killed in a shooting last year, rejected traditional long-term label deals in favor of one-off contracts for each of his releases that offered lower payment upfront, but gave him full ownership and a higher royalty rate.
Swift’s talent for fueling debate continued on Tumblr — the platform where she frequently communes with her most faithful fans — well after she published her account of the deal. “taylor will not be silenced,” wrote one fan who earned acknowledgment from Swift.
Elsewhere, some questioned whether Swift, with her enormous wealth and reputation for careful self-mythologizing, was the best messenger for this ongoing battle, especially after Borchetta pushed back, sharing deal points and private text messages between the two parties.
But the power of Swift’s fame made her message about the importance of ownership a vital lesson, Stoute said.
“If you’re an artist today, you must go into the record deal owning your master,” he said. “If not, then you are basically building an asset that you will not own.”

Floriculture - Plant Farming Fresh Cut Flowers, Ornamental, Bedding and Residence Plants
Floriculture will be the horticultural practice of cultivating and growing plants for gardens, fresh flowers to the cut-flower industry and in pots for indoor use. Horticulture demands the science of flower and plant cultivation and in floristry uses biochemistry, physiology, plant breeding and crop production, always trying to produce better quality plants while increasing their capability to resist environmental impact. The floral industry depends on floriculture to offer quality, ornamental blooms for aesthetic decorations in homes, gardens and flower bouquets. Floriculturists or flower farmers also develop new plant varieties by practicing plant breeding. Plant crops are generally herbaceous (they lose foliage after flowering) and so are manufactured using pots or trays known as cell packs by way of controlled methods. Popular flowers produced are poinsettias, azaleas, orchids, chrysanthemums and roses along with foliage plants for interior use. Floriculture accounts for providing a lot of the world with plants, flowers and shrubs. Sprawling cities and developments make finding models of flowers and plants growing naturally an extremely difficult job, then when flowers are seen growing, they are generally blooms which were cultivated by floriculturists. Floriculture brings good nature for an everyday household or office. Ornamental Plants Ornamental plants certainly meet their name. These vegetation is produced at flower farms to use domestically in homes and gardens for their pretty and appealing flowers, pleasant fragrance, interesting leaves and particular stems and bark. Landscapers frequently use ornamental plants for creating interesting and often unusual displays of those appealing blooms, as does the cut-flower industry. Unusual features will often be considered fashionable in these plants. House Plants House vegetation is grown for decorative value for indoor utilization in domestic settings and other interiors like offices. These plants supply a host of advantages to some room that aren't only decor related, and also intrinsic to health insurance the surroundings. These plants produce oxygen and clean the environment, providing a purer indoor environment. "Sick Building Syndrome" is a kind of complaint amongst office staff as computers, air conditioning and other equipment for your office causes more toxins in mid-air which in turn lurk from the interior environment.
Fatigue, coughing, a painful throat, dried-out skin and headaches are typical symptomatic of this syndrome nevertheless the addition of plants with an interior space can help to eliminate symptoms by approximately 30%. Floriculture supplies a plethora of tropical and semi tropical plants which comprise the majority of house plants sold, during countries without warm tropical conditions. Bedding Plants Bedding plants are assortments of flowering and vegetable plants, both annuals and perennials which can be resilient to colder temperatures and harsh conditions. Floriculture as well as the scientific expertise of flower farming produces bedding plants which are most resilient to the telltale conditions and may breed plants which can be hardier for longevity. Geraniums are the ideal example of bedding plants as they can withstand frost. Despite losing their flowers in winter, they regain them the subsequent spring. These plants bring colour into a garden in dull parts or where you can find not one other flowers. Cut Flower Industry The cut flower market is a very popular and successful branch of floriculture. Flower bouquet stores or florists world-wide provide an incredible number of deliveries of cut flowers, arranged in bouquets, posies, displays and baskets to customers for numerous occasions. Different methods are employed by floriculturists including specific pruning styles and spacing techniques. After flowers reach the right growth for harvesting, they undergo chemical preservation treatments and packaging. Cut flowers can be bought in florist shops, supermarkets, petrol stations, through street vendors and quite a few popularly, through websites where customers can order their flowers online from brochures over the internet. These products available from these retailers can be remarkable as they are arranged by trained professionals, skilled in the art of floral arrangement. Flower arranging or floral design necessitates the utilization of materials such as cut flowers, grasses and other foliages which are arranged in the spectacular display in bouquets, pots, baskets and vases. Beautiful fresh flowers create a very specialised present idea. A brand new flower delivery from your reputable retailer will usually be sure to constitute a really high quality. Scientific expertise, specific growing conditions and coverings by expert floriculturists implies that the flower bouquet may have a look and feel that's tastefully arranged as the blooms keep their bright appearance of fresh cut flowers. A flower bouquet store also allows customers to order and make a secure payment via the store's website. A whole new flower delivery can be produced on the same day the transaction was placed. Iggy azalea songs 2013
IGGY AZALEA SONGS 2013 SKIN
From her sample-heavy 2011 mixtape debut, Ignorant Art, to TrapGold and her 2012 mainstream rap EP, Glory, she’s popped a lot of shit but not revealed much about herself on songs.
IGGY AZALEA SONGS 2013 SKIN
It’s clear from her discography that the tall blonde with fair skin and model looks is still evolving and finding herself as an artist. On the hook to “Work,” the album’s infectious and decidedly less weird first single, Iggy says she’s “working on my sheeeeit,” in the divisive southern U.S. Raiders jersey, says the music makes her envision monkeys rapping in the jungle. Iggy, dressed for comfort in Nike running shoes, gray-and-white printed leggings, and a vintage L.A. He’s delivered a left-of-center beat that keeps speeding up. Knick (Nick Weiller) from the drum-and-bass outfit Evol Intent, who previously worked with Iggy on her 2012 mixtape TrapGold. Today she’s recording a track with moombahton, trap, and dubstep producer Bro Safari, a.k.a. Midsummer heat can make a person do strange things, and at Hollywood’s Conway Recording Studios in late July, Iggy Azalea is ready to get into some “weird shit.” Having already turned in conventional, label-pleasing hip-hop and hip-pop songs for The New Classic, her debut album for UK-based Mercury Records (distributed in the States by Island Def Jam), the 23-year-old rapper is now experimenting with unexpected sounds that would have freaked out her label bosses. This feature appears in Complex's October/November 2013 issue. Like it or not, Iggy Azalea has planted her Louboutins in American hip-hop and has no intention of going back to the Land Down Under. She’s white, she’s blonde, she’s Australian, she models, and she raps like she grew up in an Atlanta trap.

The company also offers a leaseback option for these homes. In addition to custom homes, Heritage Builders also sells quick move-in homes.

(( I was so moved by Satoshi Kon’s ‘Millennium Actress’ I decided to do a drabble from Nozomi’s perspective and in my own interpretation ))
“What is your name?”
“I am Nozomi Tojo.”
She lifted her vein riddled hand and waved it stiffly toward the camera, as if the air itself pushed her back. The bright smile of a wide eyed school girl shaved sixty years off her face. In an instant, it fell, and the wrinkles descended like vultures picking a carcass. She sat straight on her sunken couch, ever patient. Her hair could no longer drape her lap as a grey bob cut. The interviewer crudely passed his fingers through his hair. His nervous sweat smoothed the loose strands as he coolly flipped through his notepad with a trembling hand. His heart pounded in his throat. He looked up at her,
His breath hitched. For a moment meeting her eyes, he caught a glimpse of a youth with odd purple hair, pale untouched skin, and a calm gaze. A woman of a lifetime ago. From a memory. Her chuckling carried the amusement of a mother. It jolted his nerves to the present. Again, the graceful old woman stuffed in a patterned robe and shawl emerged.
“There’s no reason to feel shy. I hope I haven’t made you uncomfortable.”
“N-Not at all miss, it is an honor to speak with you! Thank you for agreeing to see us.”
He cleared his throat and recited his line by heart.
“Following your retirement and the disbandment of Muse, your group has continued to impact generations of idols since, despite several decades. What are your thoughts on such a persisting legacy?”
“At the time when we made music, it was always my wish to affect multitudes of strangers on a personal level. As long as I could accomplish the affection of the masses with my friends, anything felt possible.”
She put a hand on her chest, her smile was warm.
“It touches me deeply to have witnessed so many others follow our footsteps. Whether it was to imitate or for their own passions, I’m certain they felt the same joy we knew. The joy of working with one’s friends and making memories.”
The cameraman zoomed in and centered her to frame. The lens purred. Without hesitation, the interviewer continued. Her hands returned to crossing on her lap.
“Have you ever considered a return to the stage in response to the requests of your fans?”
“I won’t deny a few passing fancies to relive the past. But I’ve since accepted it as just that, the past.”
As she spoke a spotlight shone on the stage of her conscious. From the shimmering surface of her lake of memories burst undefined figures. The roar of cheering nearly drowned the booming of catchy music behind them. One by one the blank figures were filled in by color, hair, and skin. They manifested the faces of friends long lost at the peak of their prime. The specters danced, parading their precise, graceful dips and turns. A dim yet familiar warmth swelled and blazed in her chest. For an instant youth returned to her veins by the buzzing of her blood. She closed her eyes, leaned back her head, and smiled. Wistfulness seeped into her words.
“Oh but what a beautiful life it was.”
“Were there ever any tensions within the group?”
“Certainly, our beginning was rather rough. Much of the trouble came in rounding up members, and later I heard there’d been a spat in selecting a leader. We all know the end result now, but back then it was dire. There were even doubts about our ability to form Muse. I always had my faith, however. I suppose the only other difficulty was our decision to disband.”
“And what of the allegations of a relationship between yourself and group member Eli Ayase? Did they play a role in the disbandment?”
She stiffened. Her voice was firm.
“No, never. It was our choice as Third Years to leave and pursue personal careers beyond high school. After that, the others followed out of refusal to continue without us.”
With jittery hands she reached toward her coffee table. A cup of steaming green tea sat on a porcelain saucer. As she picked it up, her grip loosened and her face widened in alarm. The interviewer rushed to push the cup toward her before it fell. He smiled in a neighborly way. She returned the gesture.
“Thank you.”
“Do you often manage alone?”
“Thankfully not, my dear daughter comes around often to keep company. Whenever it wouldn’t stress her, that is. She recently passed sixty this year. I could credit much of my contentment to her kindness. Occasionally she brings my granddaughters along too.”
“Truly she is a model for many! My sons have no time to visit in between work. It must be a great feeling to have sat grandchildren on your lap.”
“Those days are long gone. The girls are thirty nine now. They grew like bamboo shoots. Perhaps it was all the energy they were born with as twins.”
She took a sip and chuckled to herself.
“Elicchi and I would’ve certainly had our hands full if we’d raised twins.”
Tears slid down her face; she held the cup in her lap. Her shoulders quivered, and a droplet fell discreetly into her tea. She returned it to the table. With trembling hands she touched her cheek. The interviewer stiffened, his eyes widened. He leaned forward a little, at once curious but afraid.
“Ms. Tojo are you alrigh-”
“I’m sorry, truly I am. Even saying her name these days makes something come over me.”
“Ms. Tojo, if you’d like we can stop filming for a moment, or even the day. There’s always tomorrow.”
“No...No, I...”
She wiped off her tears. A smile filled with joy and tinged by longing stretched on her lips.
“I want to remember.”
She told him of her first training, of her first live bathed in sweat and applause. She spoke of Honoka’s proposal for an Idol Club, her rejection, her second attempt and her resolution. The passionate defiance in Honoka’s eyes still seared her brain with it’s heat, with the image of Niko’s reflection. She recited the lines to Maki’s song at her graduation and lit up recalling America afterwards. Her hands moved and gestured as if they were not a day older than seventeen.
Her words painted a canvas as the film kept rolling. There came the laughter of joy at her first job, and despair dropping out of college. Slowly she reminisced the awkward shift when Eli finally shared her bed, their home. How it melted to tenderness and normalcy. In between came job training, her first house sold, her first break into company founding, the tears she cried when they traded the apartment for a mansion- the mortgage for cleared fees.
The sunlight through the windows faded to sunset. A maidservant cleared the last empty tea cup from the table. She laid wrapped in a blanket on the couch; her eyes were closed peacefully in sleep. The interviewer gathered his stack of notebooks that spilled a life in full. He tucked them under an arm and wiped his brow with a handkerchief. Beside him, cameramen retrieved their equipment with efficiency. He bowed to the maid as she led them to the front door.
Just as he stood at the room’s edge, he glanced toward Nozomi and smiled. It wasn’t long until the crew were herded outside. At the sound of the door closing she jolted awake. Her eyes found the returning maidservant who bowed kindly. They were both ancient enough to spin tales until the world ended. In this regard they silently saw one another as equal, no matter their past accolades. She put on no airs when she said,
“I think I’ll wander among the garden a while.”
“I shall do the dishes in the meantime.”
“You’re very kind.”
She watched her go before setting aside the cover and standing. There were still some things she’d manage herself.
The dusk air was somewhat chill for mid July. She pulled her clothes tighter around herself. The path had grown winding with gentians, hydrangeas, azaleas, lilies, and the watchful sunflowers. Her feet strode along without wandering in a way only experience wrought. With her fingers she caressed the flower petals like friends. The rich floral scent pouring around her formed a veil that stirred her memory.
It carried her to the days her daughter played on the ground her feet tread. Like some specter returned to familiar haunts she could hear her laughter peel back the decades. Eli’s voice quickly followed innocently ‘Do you think these earrings match the lilies?’ ‘It reminds me of being a girl again.’ ‘Walking here always calms me.’
Tears pricked her eyes once more, a weight tugged at her heart. The echoes of her friends from years gone blended into a cacophony.
‘Nozomi sure knows a lot.’ ‘You can be a headache, but...thank you.’ ‘One, two, three, four-pick up your feet Nozomi!’ ‘I love you.’ ‘We could only do this because of you-’
She covered her quivering mouth and caught the tears cascading down her face. She moved forward one step, then two. Reaching out an arm her fingers slid against the sunflowers. Her knees hit the paving stones. A stab of pain jolted up her legs. She rolled onto her side, her teeth clenched, her eyes squeezed shut. A dry laugh fell from her the way a door creaks as she saw the sky. Dusk began to set; the clouds swirled into each other. On her back sighed and listened, absorbing the stillness of encroaching night. The pain became a tingle.
It was then they came. The voices leapt from the winding halls of her memory into galloping specters once more. Their faces were conjured as immortal youths holding fast to their prime for the gift it was. The gift it had been and the gift it remained. They needed no introductions, for she knew their names easier than her own. A smile took hold of her.
“Hello.”
They waved and laughed without sound, examining her with wonder. Their feet never touched ground but hovered. In another life she’d have watched spellbound as if beholding that which shouldn’t be. Now she fought a snort to find it was indeed as expected. Her eyes darted around, counting. One, two, three, four-
Then she found her.
It hit like a truck barreling down muddy roads; the way an autumn air chilled the lungs. She had remembered with painful clarity Eli’s smile. She could recount it’s image, but it’s power commanded her name. Her words failed along with her thoughts. Eli pointed beyond Nozomi’s head toward the horizon she couldn’t see. She attempted it, however, and found her eyes stinging at the back of her head. Then, she saw the edge of Eli’s hand reaching for her. There was no hesitation when she took it.
The others helped stand her up. Their touch was neither hot nor cold, not even warm. It was lighter than air, as inconspicuous as a whisper. What remained of the pain vanished. Soon she returned on her feet. She was led aimlessly along the path again without conversation. What remained of her tried and true rationale begged to pry. She silenced it as she absorbed the figures of her memory, pulled into a gale of joy she couldn’t articulate.
Step by step she plod along until the group released her. They joined together in a parade that rose and made her crane her neck to follow. She watched them begin to line up and dance, Honoka at the lead. All broke into a routine of twisting limbs and graceful posing. Eli continued to watch her with an enamored fondness as if it were her single emotion. Her eyes grew puzzled, her breaths faster. The concert moved with purpose, quickening and lifting higher.
Anxiety seized her chest, wiggling its vines around her pounding heart. Goosebumps rose up and down her limbs while her eyes widened. Without thinking she threw out her hand.
“Wait! Wait no come back!”
She forced her stiff joints to move like cracking rust off worn gears. They were no different from dragging bleeding comrades to safety; crawling them away, if it came to that. Her legs and arms pumped even as her muscles wore to the bone. The first true sweat she’d worked in decades dripped down her face. She kept her head painfully up and found them no longer dancing. Now they smiled and sped beside her. Their bodies fluttered like falling petals, weightless. Some part of her intuition sensed this had been their goal. In the same instant, she decided it didn’t matter.
Her vision grew bleary and her fingers to strain. Her ears were dimly aware of her swelling heartbeat that bordered on dangerous. It didn’t matter, she thought, while the look of a desperate child darkened her.
She lunged toward them.
Eli caught her before she fell. With a gentle tug she pulled her close; their noses touched. When she looked down to secure their grip, a gasp stole her breath. The skin of her hands was smooth, the gnarled veins vanished. A new weight draped over her shoulders and down her back. She glanced to the side to find the purple hair she hadn’t known since she was in her forties. Realization settled comfortably in her eyes, nestled in her grin. She squeezed Eli’s hand and at last felt warmth.
“Sorry I kept you all waiting.”
They found her body nestled among the violets. The dew on the petals made her skin glisten and her smile youthful. When the maid had tapped her arm, it was still warm, and remained so even at the wake. Her expression had been eager, as if embarking on adventure.
