ASTROLOGY OBSERVATION PART 15
In Vedic astrology, medicine is often represented by Mars because Mars is a planet that indicates blood and surgery. If you find a doctor, they are likely to have a strong Mars in their chart.
However, Ketu (the South Node) also represents medicine, particularly alternative forms like Unani, Ayurvedic, and Siddha.
Rahu (the North Node), another planet associated with medicine, represents the technical and industrial aspects, such as the pharmaceutical industry and drug manufacturing. In conclusion, all three planets represent medicine, but in different ways.

From left to right: Madura Siva (Ayurvedic Yoga Expert), Mariam Magsi (Program Lead, Healthy Arts for Seniors), Nadia Pirani (HAFS Participant), Tomée Tzatzanis (Scarborough Arts Support Team) and Zeni Shariff (HAFS Participant)
An Enlightening Virtual Session with Ayurvedic Yoga Practitioner Madura Siva for Healthy Arts for Seniors
As part of the Healthy Arts for Seniors program at Scarborough Arts, our participants were treated to an incredible virtual session led by the highly skilled and compassionate Ayurvedic Yoga practitioner, Madura Siva. Designed with seniors in mind, this two-hour workshop provided a holistic journey of gentle movement, self-care techniques, and mindful meditation. It was an experience that left all attendees feeling nurtured and revitalized.
Madura began the session by focusing on joint mobility and gentle stretches. Understanding the unique needs of older adults, she curated a series of movements that could be performed right from the comfort of a chair.
Participants explored gentle poses that promoted:
Flexibility: Simple stretches to release tension in the neck, shoulders, and back.
Mobility: Movements targeting hands, wrists, ankles, and knees to encourage better circulation and reduce stiffness.
Relaxation: Breathing techniques interwoven with stretches to calm the mind and body.
The emphasis on accessibility ensured that everyone could participate, regardless of their mobility or physical limitations. Madura’s approach fostered an inclusive environment where each person could listen to their body and move at their own pace.
The second hour transitioned into a session of self-soothing massage techniques and the application of Ayurvedic principles for cognitive, ocular, and neurological health. Using oils and lotions, participants learned to engage with specific pressure points to:
Enhance mental clarity and reduce stress.
Improve eye health through targeted massage techniques around the temples and forehead.
Support neurological health by stimulating key Ayurvedic points for relaxation and balance.
This part of the session allowed participants to connect with their bodies in a deeply personal and healing way. Madura’s guidance was gentle and precise, ensuring participants felt confident in trying these techniques at home.
The session was bookended by beautiful chants and meditation, creating a sense of peace and grounding. The opening chants set a serene tone, while the closing meditation left everyone with a sense of gratitude and mindfulness. The rhythmic quality of the chants seemed to uplift the spirit, while the meditative silence provided a moment for introspection and calm.
Many participants shared their appreciation for the session, noting how accessible and therapeutic it felt. One attendee commented, “The chair yoga was perfect for my needs. I felt like I could participate fully without straining myself.” Another noted, “Learning the massage techniques was empowering. I feel like I have tools to take care of myself better.”
For seniors, maintaining physical, emotional, and mental health is essential to a fulfilling life. Programs like Healthy Arts for Seniors provide a platform for older adults to engage in meaningful activities that promote well-being and community connection. Madura Siva’s session was a shining example of how accessible and thoughtful practices can have a profound impact.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Madura for her time and expertise, and to all the participants who joined us for this memorable experience. We look forward to continuing to explore the intersection of wellness, art, and community in future sessions.

BENEFITS OF AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS
Natural and holistic methods are used in Ayurvedic treatments to address physical, mental, and emotional well-being, providing a wide range of advantages. Improved detoxification is one of the main benefits. Panchakarma and other therapies are primarily meant to rid the body of ama, or accumulated poisons, which can cause a host of health problems. In addition to enhancing metabolism and digestion, this cleansing procedure fortifies the immune system, promoting general health. Supplemental therapies that boost the body's cleansing processes include Swedana (herbal steam therapy), which encourages sweating and helps remove toxins through the skin. Ayurvedic therapies also work wonders for enhancing emotional well-being and mental clarity. Shirodhara, for example, in which warm oil is applied to the forehead, helps to lessen.
Another area where Ayurveda is quite beneficial is digestion. Digestion is improved, bloating is decreased, and nutrient absorption is improved by individualized dietary advice and therapies such as Virechana (purgation therapy). Additionally, by correcting dosha imbalances—Pita, Kapha, and Vata—Ayurvedic remedies enhance greater vitality and balanced energy levels. This equilibrium helps to lessen tiredness and increase general endurance. Treatments like Abhyanga and Ubtan (herbal exfoliation), which improve skin tone and texture and cure issues like dryness and acne, also promote skin health. Ayurveda is a comprehensive method for reaching and preserving optimal health since it provides food and lifestyle recommendations that support long-term wellness and longevity.Another area where Ayurveda is quite beneficial is digestion. Personalized food recommendations that balance metabolism and discourage overeating help in weight management. Additionally, massages promote circulation by improving waste clearance from tissues and nutrition delivery. Additionally, Ayurveda places a strong emphasis on preventative care, promoting lifestyle modifications that lower the risk of chronic illnesses and enhance long-term health. People can enjoy a more balanced and harmonious state of mental and physical health by combining these treatments.
Detoxification and balanced doshas also strengthen immune function, making the body more resilient.
