So Fruits Basket is one of my comfort anime’s. I’ve watched the old and the new versions and I’ve read the manga. I’ve been wanting to open up a discussion for a while now. What are everyone’s thoughts and opinions on Shigure? Try as I might, I can’t see him as a bad guy.

The only thing indicating this was drawn for Easter is Ayame’s tiny bunny headband in the top right...

I had the Kotone flower crown image in mind for a long time now but I’m not very good at drawing flowers so I need to stress that they are lily of the valley (スズラン)and violets (スミレ）which also happens to be Sumire's namesake.

I decided on these based on the 花言葉 (language of flowers) 「再び幸せが訪れる」(return of happiness, for lily of the valley), and 「小さな幸せ」(a little bit of happiness, for violet. Also because it’s Sumire). 

Souma closing his eyes is usually associated with the scene right before Shoumetsu Toshi 0. (his redemption arc) when he is drowning due to the weight of his sins. I wanted to echo that and subvert it, with themes of rebirth, redemption, forgiveness, wishes of future happiness, and maybe even love on Kotone’s part. 

To Souma who has been jumping parallel worlds this whole time searching for one where he can be happy, please take a break surrounded by your new nakama all rooting for you.

Tooru Honda has always been fascinated by the story of the Chinese Zodiac that her beloved mother told her as a child. However, a sudden family tragedy changes her life, and subsequent circumstances leave her all alone. Tooru is now forced to live in a tent, but little does she know that her temporary home resides on the private property of the esteemed Souma family. Stumbling upon their home one day, she encounters Shigure, an older Souma cousin, and Yuki, the "prince" of her school. Tooru explains that she lives nearby, but the Soumas eventually discover her well-kept secret of being homeless when they see her walking back to her tent one night.

Things start to look up for Tooru as they kindly offer to take her in after hearing about her situation. But soon after, she is caught up in a fight between Yuki and his hot-tempered cousin, Kyou. While trying to stop them, she learns that the Souma family has a well-kept secret of their own: whenever they are hugged by a member of the opposite sex, they transform into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

With this new revelation, Tooru will find that living with the Soumas is an unexpected adventure filled with laughter and romance.

I actually read and finished the manga, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! But I don't remember how much I enjoyed the anime so no rating.

The scene where Tohru asks Yuki about Ayame and then it was later revealed that Ayame was listening and he was hiding in Tohru's clothes because he transformed into a snake is not something I have forgotten.

Will I rewatch? Definitely yes, but it's because if I'm going to watch the whole series, it's necessary for me to remember what happened.
