Reunited - Anon Fic Submission

I was inspired by your ficlet here and instead of it being a sad and angsty ending, I made it a happy one.

This is in the same verse as my fic Gold Crowns Turned to Shrouds, which you can find on AO3. Except in this ficlet, Anastasia and Pyotr don’t die and are about 15 and 12 in this fic. The other children mentioned are Raisa (18), Ilya (10), and Valentina (2). Also, I blame myself watching Magnificent Century: Kosem.

When Evgeni had come back to the Palace to see traitor Councilmen trying to crown his youngest son Ilya the new King of his lands, he was more than frustrated. As soon as the boy saw his father, he ran to him as quickly as his little legs could carry him.

“Kak ty smeyesh’ pytat'sya postavit’ moyego Il'ya na tron, poka ya vse yeshche korol’?!” << How dare you try to put my Ilya on the throne while I’m still King?! >> roared Evgeni as he took Ilya in his arms, almost shielding the boy from the enemies. “Predateli, vse vy!” << Traitors, all of you! >>

Evgeni wouldn’t let them explain themselves, for he had slit their throats in mere seconds.

And when he finally caught their leader, he all but strangled him and demanded that he tell him where his beloved Consort was. But he had choked out that he was executed.

Sidney, his cherished consort and prized mage in the whole world, was dead?!

In mad grief, Evgeni went on a killing spree. Claiming that every single treacherous man on his knees will pay with his head. One by one.

The only reason he stops his because of Sergei telling him to think of his children. His eldest three children, little Ilya, who’s still scared about everything that has happened, and baby Valentina.

They, are Evgeni’s only lifeline now.

He had to be strong for them, but he didn’t know if he can do it without his Consort.

Evgeni starts to sob into Sergei’s shoulder as he mourns the loss of his Sidney. How he will miss his bright smile, his warm hands touching his, his soft kisses, his loving embrace, his soothing voice, and he will mostly miss seeing him with their children.

As he continues to cry, his long-time Councilman Gennady Ushakov bursts in the room, and gives Evgeni false hope by stating that there is still a possibility of Sidney being alive, for the haven’t found a body yet.

And that’s how Evgeni (with little Ilya in tow), Sergei, and Gennady have been on two day hunt in search of Sidney. …

They get into the main part of the city and Evgeni sees a little girl, who looks incredibly happy to see him for some reason. Not that he minded, most of the children have that sort of smile when they see him. He smiles politely and nods in her direction.

The little girl runs off into one of the houses.

Confused, Evgeni climbs off his horse and heads towards the house where the little girl ran, but before he can step inside, another door opens and he feels his breath taken away.

There, at the doorstep, was his Consort, who looked stunned at the sight of Evgeni, but that quickly changed to a brilliant smile. “Zhenya,” Sidney breathed out happily. He made his way to Evgeni and pulled his husband down in a tight embrace. “Zhenya…my Husband.”

Evgeni did not hug back for he was frozen in place. His Sidney was alive, he was alive and hugging him. He felt as thought he was in a dream, but feeling his beloved’s warmth made him realize that he wasn’t. He felt tears well up in his eyes again, this time in sheer happiness as he wrapped his arms around Sidney tightly. They clung onto each other as Evgeni pressed his head into his Consort’s shoulder. “No kak?” << But how? >>

Sidney then began to explain that one of the traitors who was about to execute him had set him free and he sent him to a safe-house where his children, all but Ilya, were. While Zhenya despised the fact that he betrayed their Kingdom and nearly killed his Consort, he was happy that he had spared Sidney his life (even though he wouldn’t be the one to kill him).

“Ya dumal, ty umer.” << I thought you were dead. >> he sobbed out. “Ya dolzhen byl prisoyedinit'sya k tebe na drugoy storone.” << I was to join you on the other side. >>

“Yesli by ty ubil sebya, ya by navernyaka umer.” << If you had kill yourself I would have surely died myself. >> Sidney cried. “No ya zhiv Zhen'ka. My zhivy.” << But I’m alive Zhenya. We’re alive. >>

“Daddy!” Ilya cried as he clung to Sidney’s robes.

Sidney smiled as he picked Ilya up and kissed him on the cheek, sending the boy to giggles. “Oh my young Prince, I have missed you so much.”

“Papa!”

Evgeni looked up to see his eldest three children, Raisa, Pyotr, running towards him and Sidney. All of them had tears in their eyes. He pulled back slightly from Sidney, opening an arm for both Raisa and Anastasia to join the embrace, Pyotr slipped himself into their Dad’s open arm.

He looked down at them, pressing kisses to each of their heads. “Raya, my beautiful knight. Petya, my strong boy. Stasya, my little princess.”

Anastasia was the first to end her crying, she pushed away from her Papa’s embrace to kiss his cheek before stepping back. Her brother and sister soon followed suit. Their parents needed their time. After all, they hadn’t seen each other in almost two months.

“Shall we give you time alone?” Raisa asked, wiping any remaining tears from her face.

“No,” Evgeni said wetly. “I have yet to see my little Valya.”

“She’s inside with one of my handmaidens,” Sidney assured. “Come.” he grabbed his husband’s hand and started to guide him into the safe-house, their other children in tow. Gennady and Sergei also followed suit.

Evgeni knew he was going to have to tell Sidney about Ilya’s near coronation, but he decided to put that off until later. For now, he only wanted to hug and hold his youngest baby. His family has returned to him, and his life is now content again.
