Odd socks
Chapter 5
Previous | Next
“You did what?” Neteyam hissed.
“Threw a small shell at him.” Y/n mumbled. She had been stood her for a whole 10 minutes being forced to explain what happened with Ao’nung to Neteyam because someone could not keep their mouth shut. That someone being-
“No, it was a big red one! If she had not thrown it at him then we would have won, the competition.” Tuk boasted, expecting her older brother to be jealous or praise her but instead she got a strong glare from her older sister.
“Tuk you aren’t helping-”
“Y/n why would you throw- Okay, I can understand you verbally cursing at him but getting physical? We have not even been here for that long and he is the olo’ekytan’s son. Do you not realise the trouble this could get our family in? We are in a vulnerable position right now!” Neteyam held Y/n in her place by the shoulders when she tried to walk away.
“He is not going to tell anyone! Why would he when if the adults were to ask what happened they would find out what he said? They would find out that he was being a dickhead!”
“They would also find out that you hit him. Even if it turned into a fight where he would hit you back, you hit him first and that is all it would take for this clan to think our family is dangerous, that we react violently to anything. You think they would let us stay here a second longer?”
“Neteyam, he was getting on my nerves and Tuk was there too!”
“So, you hit him with a shell? That was the best thing to do?”
“Yes.”
“No! No Y/n you do not do that. Why can’t you ever understand? You know, sometimes I wonder whether you and Tuk are the real twins because you act like you are her age by acting so reckless and never thinking with your head. If he got on your nerves, then all you had to do was swear at him and then walk away.”
Y/n rolled her eyes, ever since they were little Neteyam loved playing the third parent and bossing all their younger siblings around including her.
“I do not understand why you are getting so worked up about this. It really is not that big of a deal!”
Neteyam’s lips tightened, and his nostrils flared. She never will understand him, and he believes she has never even tried to.
“Right because Father threw a shell and the Olo’ekytan’s face to make him let us stay here and he even was ready to throw in a few punches for good measure.” Sarcasm spilled out from Neteyam’s voice, thinking if a simple explanation cannot get to the girl’s head, then maybe this can.
“Ugh, so you are telling me you would have just said ‘go away Ao’nung’ and walked away? Really? Because that would have worked.” Y/n asks him, her ears flickering as her brows furrowed. Why is Neteyam getting so worked up over this? She does not understand.
“Yes. I would have avoided conflict because I care about this family and not just myself.” The twins were the same height yet somehow with those words it felt like Neteyam was towering over Y/n, as if he were the bigger person.
To Neteyam, he had always felt that he understood his parents’ worries and warnings, he understood that the rules his parents set in place must be followed to keep everyone safe and maintain peace. Yet Y/n never understood this. He tried his best to explain to her that rules are meant to be followed for a reason, but she never listens. Just like now. She will never listen. Which is why he grew up to be the obvious third parent. The one his younger siblings could lean on when their parents were not around.
He knew Y/n cares and loves his younger siblings as much as he does but that does not mean she can go around acting like them. She must act her age as the eldest daughter, yet she chooses not to. He knows that she is a skilled hunter, an excellent climber and even better at riding an Ikran but he often wonders when she will be a responsible older sister.
“You think I do not care? Do you really think I did what I did because of my own selfish reasons?” Y/n spoke softly, her voice conveying the pain she felt from his words. She pushed his hands off her.
“Your actions proved plenty.” Neteyam looked away. The two stood in silence for a few seconds before Neteyam walked away.
“I don’t understand him!” Y/n shouted at none but herself as she stood alone in the mauri pod.
---
Tuk had ran out of the mauri pod when she heard Neteyam raising his voice and Y/n doing the same. She had seen them argue before over small matters which would get resolved within the next hour, but she had never seemed them both this angry at each other and it frightened her. When she told Neteyam about what Y/n did to Ao’nung, she thought he would be proud of Y/n like she was. When Tuk was with her older sister and Ao’nung and his friends approached them, she did not like it at all. Even though they were smiling at her, she did not like them talking to her, they had mean smiles. They even said some mean things about Y/n and her hands.
Tuk never saw anything wrong with Y/n, Lo’ak and Kiri’s hands. She did not think anything of it. So, when she heard Ao’nung’s friends talking about her sister like that, she did not understand why. When Y/n had pulled Tuk by her arm to make Tuk stand behind Y/n, Tuk felt safe. She felt as if Y/n was her shield from the mean bullies even though they said nothing to Tuk and everything to Y/n.
She thought Y/n was brave when she threw the shell at Ao’nung. So why was Neteyam so angry? She does not like it at all when they fight.
It does not matter, she does not like the two of them arguing so she goes to find her other siblings or her parents who can stop them. She did try to stop them, but her voice was not reaching their ears.
As she ran, she ran past a a conversation she could not help but listen in to. So, she stopped and hid her body behind the mauri wall and peeked over the side of it to see who was talking.
“OW! Tsreiya be careful!” Ao’nung whined.
“I’m sorry brother, but I need to apply some at least a little pressure,” Tsireya sighed. She had tried to help her brother with the mysterious bruise on his left cheek, but he was being exceedingly difficult. “Listen, if you don’t stop whining then I will go get mother and tell her to do this for you instead.”
“No! Do not get mother, she will ask too many questions.”
“Remind me, how did you get hurt again?” Tsireya asked as she continued placing the cold pouch of stones on Ao’nung’s cheek.
“Was playing with the boys and got hurt.”
“Yeah, but how?”
“One of them accidently threw a shell at me.”
Tsireya lifted the pouch and looked at him questionably.
“A shell? You are telling me a shell did this to you?”
“That's what I said.”
Tuk let out a squeak when Ao’nung caught her eyes. He narrowed his eyes into a glare and Tuk felt a cold shiver run down her spine.
‘He is scary. Too scary.’ She thought as she broke into a sprint back to her mauri.
“What was that noise?” Tsireya looked behind her and walked around the mauri to see where the noise came from. When she stuck her head outside, she saw Tuk running away. “Why is she running away?”
“Beats me.” Ao’nung shrugged.
Tuk had forgotten why she had even run out of the mauri in the first place when she had entered it again and found Lo’ak sitting in the corner, fiddling with something. She walked up to him and sat in the space next to him. His fingers toyed with a little blue shell that sparkled whenever the sunlight fell upon its surface.
‘A shell.
Y/n hit Ao’nung with a shell.
Y/n and Neteyam had a fight because of it.’
“What’s wrong tuk?” Lo’ak asked when she had been silent for far too long. Tuk leaned her head on his arm.
“Socks hit Ao’nung with a shell.” She told him.
“He probably did something to deserve it.” Lo’ak snorted.
“Neteyam got angry though. Him and socks had a fight. They both were really angry and were shouting at each other really loudly. I did not like it.” Tuk kept her eyes on the little blue shell in Lo’ak’s hands as she spoke, still leaning her head on his arm. Soon Lo’ak stopped fiddling with the shell and pulled his little sister into a hug.
“It’s fine, they’ll make up soon.” He told her. Though he was a little shocked to hear the twins had a fight. He knew that this is not the first time they ever fought but previous fights had been over ‘I did this last time so now it’s your turn’ and a few were ‘wow, you’re really bad at this.’, though these fights never lasted long and the two would apologise rather quickly and get on their day as normal. So, to hear they were shouting at each other to the point where it scared Tuk must mean that this was an argument that they took rather seriously.
Either that or Tuk was exaggerating, which she often did.
“Hey, do you want this? I found it when I went swimming with Tsireya.” Lo’ak offered the little shell to her. Tuk took it from his hands and played around with it. It was smooth in some areas but textured in others. Still, it was a very pretty shell which would go nicely as a hair ornament. She thanked him and got up to carefully place holes in the shell so she could thread her hair through it.
Lo’ak watched tuk play around with the shell and tried to think whether the fight his older siblings had was really all that bad. He began to think that it was not and when the fight was told from Tuk’s eyes, it seemed worse than it was.
However, Lo’ak began to question himself later that day when the whole family came back together for dinner. Neteyam and Y/n were not saying a word to either each other or anyone else. They would only speak when spoken too. Lo’ak went up to his brother, who was helping his mother with cutting up pieces of fish. He nudged him and gave him a questioning look. Neteyam just shook his head at him and went back to his work, refusing to give a verbal explanation.
Lo’ak then went to his older sister, who was with her father, helping him clean the weapons and tools that were used that day. Lo’ak sat down next to her and whispered a ‘hey.’ She looked up from the knife she was cleaning and looked at him.
“You good?” He asked, raising his voice a little above a whisper.
“Yeah.” Her reply was dry and quick. She went back to cleaning.
Lo’ak looked at his father who was sitting close by and any conversation he would try to have with his sister would easily be heard by him. Lo’ak thought that he would not get much out from either older brother or sister with their parents around, so he gave up for now. Choosing to talk to them later that evening when they are alone.
Though their parents did not notice anything while getting ready for dinner, when the whole family sat down together to eat, they noticed the silence from the twins. Though they never talked all that much during dinner, there always was a small conversation here and there while they ate. Everyone spoke about something, about how their day was. Jake told them about how he was getting better at riding a Tsurak, earning praises from his wife and kids. Well apart from two of his kids who just smiled at him and went back to eating. Neytiri complained to her family about how Ronal kept giving her backhanded compliments and the twins still said nothing. Lo’ak shared his progress with swimming in the sea, that he was now able to hold his breath for a little longer than before. Twins said nothing. Kiri told everyone about the different sea animals she saw today. Twins said nothing. Tuk told everyone about how she had her older siblings had a mini competition on who could find the biggest shell.
Y/n froze. She was praying to Eywa that Tuk does not tell her parents that Y/n threw a shell at Ao’nung. Y/n knew that her parents would side with Ao’nung and that it would be another long lecture from her parents.
“Me and socks did not win though but next time we will! Right socks?” Tuk smiled at Y/n.
Y/n looked up at Tuk and gave her a small smile. “Yeah, we will.” Though her words were half-heartedly spoken. She then went back to eating.
Jake and Neytiri were waiting for Neteyam and Y/n to talk, everyone had said something about their day apart from those two. When the twins showed no signs of talking, the couple shared a concerned look.
“So, Neteyam, how was your day?” Jake asked.
“It was fine, Father.”
“Anything interesting happen today?” He tried to pry further.
“Hmm, I do not know. Did anything interesting happen today Y/n?” Neteyam looked at his sister in the eye for the first time since their argument.
“Not that I am aware of. No.” Y/n replied with a sarcastic smile that lived short on her face before she glared at him and looked down at her food.
Kiri nudged Lo’ak to ask what happened between the two, but Lo’ak shook his head, meaning he either did not know or could not explain at the moment.
“Oh, that weird, I’m sure you must have done something interesting today.” Neteyam returned her sarcastic smile.
Y/n rolled her eyes. She knew Neteyam was trying to get her to tell everyone that she hit Ao’nung with a shell, but she put up her own fight, she will not tell anyone.
“What happened?” Neytiri asked, her voice soft and motherly. She looked at her two oldest children expectantly.
“Nothing mum. Neteyam’s just being weird.” Y/n told her mother, she does not feel all that hungry anymore, so she passes her food to Tuk who happily eats her older sister’s leftovers.
“You planning to keep it a secret? You know they are going to find out, either from you or from Ao’nung.” Neteyam asked.
“Find out what from Ao’nung?” Jake asked in between the twins’ argument but his voice did not reach their ears.
“I do not care of he decides to snitch I had a very good reason to do what I did!” Y/n stood up. She had enough of this. She wanted to leave to mauri and be anywhere but near Neteyam.
“What did you do?” Jake stands up too.
“Go on tell them if you do not care!” Neteyam gets on his feet and the twins went head-to-head. They could not hear their father’s questions, nor did they see their whole family standing up. They only raised their head away from each other when they hear their mother speak.
“Y/n, did you and Ao’nung...”
“NO! Ew Mum! Why would you even think that!” Y/n cried out in disgust. Her face twisting up when an image of her and Ao’nung alone, doing other things than fighting flashed in her mind. “I just threw a shell at him and now Neteyam is throwing a tantrum over it.”
Silence filled the room.
“You did what Y/n?” Jake asked for the second time, the lack of his nickname for her and the slow, calm pace at which he spoke told Y/n that she was in for some deep shit.
---
Pandora’s sunlight hit the water as it softly hit the shore. Metkayina kids played together, playing games of tag, swimming together and collecting seashells. Damn shells. Y/n despises everyone she sees. Though she kept telling herself that what she did was with good reason, her father had scolded her enough to make her cringe with annoyance every time she saw on either in the seabed or on the sand.
A day had passed since the whole incident but neither Tsahik or Olo’eyktan knew that their son was hit by a shell, but Y/n’s parents were close to making her walk over to their mauri and apologise. Though they later decided to wait and see if Ao’nung would tell their parents.
He did not tell anyone, just as Y/n kept telling everyone. Despite that, she was kept supervised by her father and mother for the day. She was told to follow them around so they would make sure she does not go and start throwing shells at boys again.
Right now, she was with her mother, they both sat near the shore, weaving baskets together with Ronal and a few other Metkayina women.
“I must say Y/n, your ability to weave baskets this quick is a commendable skill.” Ronal complimented the younger child who joined them that day. Neytiri had just said that her eldest daughter will be joining them until the afternoon and truth be told, Ronal did feel that the child would not keep up and slow her down on her tasks. However, she was proven wrong rather quickly.
“Thank you.” Y/n smiled at Ronal. She had decided to act as the sweet, well-mannered child with Ronal so if Ao’nung did ever change his mind and tell his parents about the shell incident then Ronal might not believe him since how could an innocent, kind girl ever do such a thing.
It was not like Y/n was being fake, after all she was kind and well mannered, just not towards certain people, or rather a certain group of boys and one boy in particular. She soon found herself in a pleasant conversation with Ronal and Y/n had forgotten about the reason why she was there in the first place for a while.
Neytiri watched as the two conversed, only adding to the conversation every now and then. Y/n would even talk with the other women around her who happily talked back to her. She admired her daughter for her social skills at times like these, she knew that Y/n was a social butterfly and would always find a way to get along with anyone, so she was shocked when she first heard of her daughters actions the day before.
Even back at the forest, she would see her daughter talking happily to every member of the clan, which made her believe that she would have been the first to adjust and get familiar with the people here. Perhaps she had not been paying enough attention to her. Once Y/n and Ronal’s conversation had come to an end, Neytiri smiled at her daughter and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
“Perhaps me and your father were too hard on you last night, but I do hope what happened does not happen again.” She softly told her. Y/n looked up at her mother and smiled back.
“Yeah, okay. I am sorry about how I acted.” Y/n replied.
The two shared one last smile before getting back to finishing off their baskets.
The rest of the day for Y/n was spent with her mother and then later with her father. When the family gathered back into to Marui for the night, the twins still did not talk to each other which did not go unnoticed by other members of the family, but they could only hope that the two would talk it out in their own time.
The next day, Y/n was allowed to join her siblings with training again. She joined them with Tsireya, Ao’nung and his friends. Today they were to learn how ride an Ilu. Ilu were how the metekayina travelled underwater in a much quicker way than swimming. Ilu were not like Ikrans and would bond with any rider rather than just one.
Ao’nung called out to the ilu by making a particular type of noise with his mouth. The ilu came quickly and swam around him in circles before he turned around to face everyone behind him.
“If you want to live here, you have to ride.” He told them,
Y/n noticed a small bruise on his cheek where she had hit him with the shell and nearly felt guilty. Nearly.
Tsireya called some ilu over to her and then beckoned Lo’ak to join her. Lo’ak was the first to attempt to ride an Ilu, he made the bond with ease but when he told the ilu to swim, he lost grip quickly, causing him to tumble around in the water. Everyone had their heads underwater, watching his attempt eagerly.
Ao’nung and his friends rose from the water laughing and Tsireya tried her best not to laugh. The twins had also tried not to laugh but they both ended up laughing a little.
It turned out that Kiri had already bonded with an Ilu before and did not need to be taught again. So, then Neteyam went next, compared to Lo’ak, he got the hang on it quicker and was able to ride an Ilu with ease. While the brothers practiced together, Tsireya took Tuk over to where the smaller Ilus are and Ao’nung was left with teaching Y/n.
“Alright Socks, looks like you’re the last one left.” He tilted his head down slightly and smiled at her. She frowned at him back.
“I thought I told you to not call me that.”
“Why? I think the name suits you.” His voice sounded so innocent, but Y/n knew better.
“You do not even know the meaning of the name.”
Ao’nung called an Ilu over.
“Alright then, tell me the meaning.”
Tell him the meaning of socks? Over Y/n’s dead body. Why would she give him another reason to make fun of her? So instead, she ignored him and greeted the Ilu instead. She got on the Ilu’s back and pulled her braid from behind forward to make the bond.
“Do it slowly and gently,” Ao’nung advised her as he watched the bond seal between her and the Ilu, he called over for her. “Wouldn’t want to scare the Ilu away.”
Once she had made the bond, she could feel the animal’s heartbeat and breathe, as if the two were one. This reminded her of her Ikran and how it would be like when she would ride her Ikran.
“Now tell the Ilu to swim forward.” Ao’nung’s voice sounded closer than she thought he was and made her jump. This caused the Ilu to get scared too and jerk Y/n forward into the water. Once she had emerged from the water, she heard Ao’nung and his friends laughing. Well, not like she had expected them to do anything less. So, she took a deep breath and tried to get onto the Ilu again.
Once she had bonded again, she looked back at Ao’nung making sure he was not close enough to do anything again. Once she was satisfied with the distance, she looked forward again and told the Ilu to swim forward. The Ilu moved immediately and swam with speed through the water. Y/n now understood why Lo’ak had lost his grip the first time he had tried.
So, she tightened her hold and told the Ilu where to swim. She told the Ilu to swim in a large circle, eventually making the way back to where Ao’nung was at.
“Damn, she learns fast.” One of his friends spoke aloud to himself. Ao’nung dismissed it by saying,
“It is an Ilu, kids younger than that small forest kid can ride one. Nothing impressive at all.”
Once Y/n had reached him, her hair wet and sticking to her cheeks, she smirked at him.
“I bet I could easily win a race.” She challenged him.
Ao’nung scoffed and looked back at him friends amused before looking back at the girl in front of him. “Aren’t you getting a little ahead of yourself?”
“Not at all.”
The two looked at each other a little longer before Y/n tilted her head with a mocking expression and Ao’nung called out to another Ilu. He got on the Ilu and his friend came forward, telling them both where to start and where to finish. The first one to reach the coral area where Y/n’s siblings and Tsireya are wins.
“Three... Two... One... Go!” The friend counted them down and the two were off.
The two were neck to neck throughout most of the race, both telling their Ilu to swim faster and faster. They would look at the other besides them, getting frustrated that they could not get rid of them. Ao’nung was surprised a little that Y/n could hold on for this long, but he pushed his astonishment away and focused on winning the race.
In the end, the two tied and there was no clear winner. They both got annoyed again but before they could race again, Tsireya swam over to congratulate Y/n on riding an Ilu. Y/n got distracted by trying to figure out what she was saying with the finger talk since she forgot some of the basic signs Tsireya had taught her, that she did not notice Ao’nung swimming away. Not that she would have cared too much.
For the next hour, the kids would play around with their Ilus, swimming around large coral and trying to learn tricks from Tsireya. Though this excitement was short lived for Y/n before she felt a small nip on her leg. She looked down and saw the fish that looked like Ao’nung nipping at her leg again.
While she did find that fish’s appearance amusing, she did not appreciate the fact that it came to bite her wherever it caught sight of her. Though luckily, this time she had an Ilu so she could quickly swim away from it. Just when she believed she had outswum the fish, she looked behind her to see the fish swimming towards her with a few other fishes behind it.
Neteyam was playing around with Lo’ak on his Ilu happily, thinking that everything around them is peaceful. He was about to sign to his brother that they should probably head back when he saw Y/n riding her Ilu in the distance behind Lo’ak with a whole school of fish chasing after her.
He pointed at her and Lo’ak looked behind him to see the sight. By now, Y/n had changed direction and was swimming towards them, bringing the angry school of fish with her. The two brother’s eyes widened, and they quickly got their Ilus to swim away with Y/n followed them close behind.
I suppose we can say that it was not just Y/n who came back home with a few fish bites that day.

new person, same old mistakes.
includes: death. this indicate internal thoughts. gn!reader. angst. part 2 to let it happen. not proofread.
meeting the metkayina was possibly the most interesting factor of your life.
the stares were cruel but hey , at least someone spared you a glance.
you didn’t want to leave home. you would’ve been fine if they just left you there with your grandmother. but hey, what dad sir says goes right?
tsireya was kind. ao’nung was alright. the ocean was beautiful.
you thought making new friends in a new home would fill that void of loneliness. you were wrong.
you couldn’t even enjoy a new place without your brothers causing trouble.
you glanced over to neteyam, smirking as he licked the blood off of his lip.
son of a bitch had it coming.
what are you thinking? neteyam did nothing wrong.
your fathers loud voice shook you from your thoughts.
“you were supposed to be watching them! why did you let them fight?!”
i didn’t. i wasn’t even there. this isn’t my fault.
“i’m sorry sir. i will apologize as soon as i can”
taking the fall for your brothers. again.
the apology never came. to hell with them.
so you threw yourself back into your shell.
you gained a lot of new skills. you grew your hair out. you got taller. all new things. you were a new person.
you then found yourself on a ship, covering for your siblings, as usual, when suddenly,
you were hit.
the bullet was meant for neteyam.
it should’ve been him.
then maybe i would’ve had a chance.
you sat slumped against a door.
the cold metal freezing against your hot skin.
your siblings were already on their ilu riding back to shore.
forgetting you.
they had just assumed you were behind them.
but not one person turned around to see and check.
blood was filling your mouth at a rapid pace.
the metallic smell made your nose sting.
you stared down at your chest and removed your hands that tried to apply pressure.
there was no point anymore.
you couldn’t help but feel relief. you’re finally out of the picture.
the family doesn’t have to worry about you anymore. your final mistake. the one you’ve been making your entire life; covering for your siblings.
you died with a smile on your face. finally free from the retched horrors of your life.
sad thing is
it was days before anyone noticed you were gone.
it was too late. your body was already one with the ocean.
although you were a new person, you still found yourself making the same old mistakes.
next.

Stuck with me
Pairing- Ao'nung x Sully!reader
Summary- You didn't like violence, Ao'nung had the urge to protect you. He falls in love with you and seeing you protect him pulled him in deeper and then you get stuck with each other.
Warnings- blood, bruises, fighting
You didn't like violence, not even a little. You didn't even like to yell. You just wanted everyone to get along. And you were the best warriors going neck to neck with your mother Neytiri. But even as a warrior you try to get in as little violence as possible, but sometimes it is inevitable.
"Hey forest girl." Ao'nung said he had been trying to get under your skin for weeks. He has gotten all of your siblings but you. "Hi Ao'nung." You smile and his transparent eyebrows furrow. "So you call this a tail." He said pulling on your tail slightly. Pulling it from him, "Yes I do as you call yours a tail, would you like to join me in medicine making today?" You quickly change the subject and this confuses the boy even more. "No." He said quickly walking off.
After that day he tried everything to get you to even yell at him. But you didn't budge, you only gave him a smile and a few quick words. And finally he gave in. Walking next to you on the beach as you pick up shells that Tuk asked for. "Hey Y/N." Ao'nung said before you could speak another group of boys passed you. "Hey freak." One yelled out and Ao'nung looked offended for you and all you did was pick up another shell and continue walking. The boys scoff before leaving. He watched as you deflected every insensitive thing that a few people threw at you, how you continued to do your task at hand and not yell and fight back as he would, he admired you. And he had this urge to protect you.
And protect you he did.
You had been laying in the sand soaking up the sun as the group of boys from a few days ago came across you again. Ao'nung had been only a few feet away and may or may not have been keeping an eye on you. "Hey freak." One of them said you open your eyes and stand up brushing sand off of yourself before smiling at them. "So is it true?" One of them asked and you turned to him. "What true?" You ask. "That your father was a demon my mom said that all demons should be killed." He said and you shake your head side to side. "Well my father was of demon blood and then he became one of the people-" cut off by the boy again. "So you're a demon." He laughed and you began to walk away not wanting to start anything.
As you walked away Ao'nung walked behind you, "Call her a demon again and I'll skin you alive." He hissed. He caught up to you and you looked at him. "You know you did not need to do that." You say walking to your family's home. "Yes, I know but I wanted to protect you." He said as you shake your head walking into the marui.
As you walk in you smile at your family before sitting in the circle they had made. "Ao'nung said he wanted to protect Y/N." Neytiri laughed and you shook your head side to side as your family laughed along with her. "Ao'nung protect Y/N, she fought a thantor without a weapon I think she is good." Lo'ak laughed. "That was only because it was trying to eat all of you, I do not like violence." You say grabbing a piece of fruit your mother freshly cut. The laughter died down as they continued to talk about all kinds of things. Jake watched from across the hut watching as you looked around, a peaceful smile rested on your lips. You reminded him so much of your mother it made him so proud, but scared him a little.
-One week later-
Everyone was waiting at the dock searching for Lo'ak. Everyone stopped as they watch him ride to docks. Neteyam dragged Ao'nung by the arm, and put him in front of your parents. Lo'ak stomped toward Ao'nung before Jake stepped in front of him. "Tell them what you told me." Neteyam spoke loudly. "We took Lo'ak out to Three Brothers Rock and left him there." He looked ashamed, almost regretful to have done this, he avoided everyone's eyes but your gaze the most.
Tonowari sighed at this and you watched as Lo'aks eyes glazed over everyone. "It was my idea to go to the island, it wasn't Ao'nungs fault." Lo'ak said and the next thing your father spoke hurt. "I'm disappointed in you Lo'ak." Lo'ak looked taken back before he stormed off Ao'nung on his tail.
You hadn't known what was said between the two but what you couldn't get Ao'nung and the way he looked earlier that night. You silently step out of your mauri and see Ao'nung standing at the edge of the beach.
You walk up next to him and he turns his head, eyes widened as shocked to see you.
"Hello, Ao'nung." You say and he takes a deep breath in. "Hey Y/N, I'm sorry for what I did to your brother." He said quietly and you hummed. "I know." You say sitting on the sand. He followed with a bewildered expression. "You do."
"Yes."
"How?" He asked and you giggled which only confused him more.
"You are not as clever as you think you are Ao'nung, I see what others do not, I know that you take care of the people you care for, I know that you don't like bullying people but it makes you feel better about yourself if you make others feel just as bad as you. Am I correct or should I go on?" You ask and his face fell had he been that transparent?
"Don't please don't go on." He said, rubbing his eyes. "You're right, I do like feeling like that, Eywa have I always been a skwang?" He asked himself and you. You oat his shoulder before laughing a little. "Maybe but you can always change huh or do you still want to be a skwang?" You joke and his head shoots up and shakes it before laughing. "So Y/N friends?" He asked, putting his hand out and you pretend to think before connecting your hand to his shaking it. "Friends."
And that is how it went, you and Ao'nung somehow ended up being each other's best friends. Everyone found it strange, best friends with the person who left your brother for dead but they couldn't help but be grateful. Ever since he started hanging out with you, he's caused less and less trouble. In a situation where he would have just straight swinged you taught him just to ignore it. He admired you for your peaceful nature but it still confused him. He heard that you were the greatest young warrior in the Omaticaya but he hadn't seen you get into a fight once. He shakes the thoughts as he continues listening to your conversation.
"Yeah I did get into that fight and you just sat there sighing, maybe one day you'll have enough and beat me a new one huh N/N." He joked pushing your shoulder teasingly and you only shake your head as you continue to weave the basket you had in your lap.
From afar Ronal and Tonowari watch the interaction. "You know Tono I don't know why but they seem a lot like us when we were their age no?" Ronal said walking into their home. "Yes my love I see it too for some odd reason, Y/N though I think she is the nicest warrior I've ever met." Tonowari said as he settled into his and Ronal's cot.
Now it was the next day, as there would be this huge party to celebrate the entrance to a new season. It would be huge.
And it was everyone dressing up, loud music blasted into your ears, many danced, and alcoholic drinks went around and ran through most. It was pretty peaceful until someone yelled from across the land.
"I am the best warrior out here I could take on anyone." He yelled he was clearly drunk from the way his speech slurred and he took another swig of the drink. And you giggled a little from his statement as did many others. But Eywa seemed to be on the other side today, he clicked you laughing and stomped his way to you. You sat with Kiri on your left and Ao'nung on your right.
"So the little forest girl thinks she is better than me." You sigh as you ignore his persistent badgering. But that just wouldn't do for him. He slammed his hands on the table making you flinch from the loud sound so close to your ears and he yelled out insults about you left and right.
Ao'nung had seemed to have enough. He stood up. "Hey just leave her alone-" cut off by the man who just slammed his fist onto the side of Ao'nungs face. Everyone gasped as the man spouted insults this time to Ao'nung.
"Can't even protect yourself how come this little boy gets to be the next Olo'eyktan he has no right." The man yelled and just as they got up to diffuse the situation everyone stood shocked as you stood in front of the man with the same sweet smile painted on your face.
"He has no right? And I suppose you do? Ao'nung was born to be Olo'eyktan, he's trained, he's learned, he's grown, sure you know how to fish but do you know how to lead a clan?" You told the boy off and he was drunk and your words seemed to anger him, his hands ball into a fist and then he threw his hand towards your face. You catch his hand mid throw, the sweet smile now gone cold expression replaces it. Shivers run down the man's back as you speak in a low voice.
"I have given you a chance to back down, but it seems I'll have to give you one you'll never forget." You say and the last thing yelled was a loud, "Y/N don't!" From your younger sister Kiri.
It wasn't much of a fight as your tight fist landed on his face, a crunch heard from his nose. He held his nose as you punched him in the face again and again making him drop onto the ground. His face was black and blue with a hint of red running down his both nostrils. Pulling your bloodied hands up to your side you look down on him.
Ao'nung was looking at you, mesmerized you've never seemed so beautiful. Lo'ak was yelling "Get his ass Y/N punch him in the dick-'' he screamed, pumping his fist in the air. "We are so kicked out." Jake said rubbing his eyes and Neytiri watched you slightly proud.
Your turn to him and the blood running from his nose alerts you. But it seems the beating you gave the boy wasn't enough as he stands up on his knees not even fully still spewing insults and how he was going to beat you and you finally had enough. "Stand down!" You yell and everyone seems taken back as the bass of your voice booms. You've never yelled, hell you've never been angry but right now everyone seemed a little scared at the dark look in your eyes and the terrifying in your voice. Everyone backed down as you stood up, tilting their heads down for respect.
Tonowari stood shocked, mouth agape at what just went down, while Ronal had a quiet smile on her lips.
You turn back to Ao'nung and the scowl on your face softens as you walk to him.
"Ao'nung, Ao'nung." You say crouching next to him. "Are you okay? Were you injured anywhere else?" You ask, touching his head for a fever. "You're so beautiful." He whispers and only you hear. "He's delusional, come on get up, let's clean you up." You say grabbing his hands with your bruised knuckles strained pulling him from the ground. Ronal turns to Tonowari now they see how they saw themselves in you two.
Later that night after you cleaned Ao'nung up and took him home, Tonowari and Ronal had a conversation.
"She would make a great Tsahik, she is a great healer better than almost everyone in the island and did you see how she protected Ao'nung she is perfect, kind, and strong." Ronal spoke to her husband.
Tonowari was still stuck at the party how you fought that man with ease he was in awe. "She lived here for months and she didn't get into a fight, not even an argument even when bullied. And she only did it when she saw Ao'nung was in trouble." He whispered to himself, smiling a little. Ronal turned to him. "What?" She hadn't heard him. "She would make a great mate and Tsahik she doesn't make brash decisions like Ao'nung she's perfect for him." He replied to his wife who had a huge grin on her face. It was settled between the two of you and Ao'nung should be mates.
They wanted things to settle before they contacted your parents who now stand in front of them. Jake and Neytiri go to kneel down and apologize and ask to stay before Ronal stops them. "Let us sit." Tonowari said.
Ronal poured hot tea for everyone as she sat next to her husband. "We would like to discuss something important." Ronal started and Jake nodded. "It's about Y/N." She added and Neytiri straightened her back and Jake began to speak. "What about Y/N is it about the other day I know sometimes she is rash and doesn't think I had a conversation with her-"
"No it is not about that." Ronal stopped him and urged her husband into the conversation. "Me and Ronal had a talk and we decided that Y/N would be a perfect fit for Ao'nung and would like to discuss and arrange marriage." Tonowari ended.
Neytiri's eyes widened. She hadn't seen the love that bloomed between the two of you. And she knows what it feels like to be in an arranged marriage and she goes to speak. "I do not want my daughter in a marriage she does not want-" cut off by Jake. "We accept." Neytiri looked caught off guard by his acceptance. "Neytiri, you should truly see how they look at each other. They are in love, and I'm not talking about stupid teenage love, I'm talking about honest love. She beat someone to pulp for touching him and you know our daughter." He spoke softly to her and she shook her head up and down. "Then if she truly does love him," she said, pausing.
"Then we accept."
Jake and Neytiri left and went to go find you and there you were looking at your bruised hands. Jake coughs altering you he was there. "Oh hello father, mother." You say tilting your head down. "Y/N, daughter." Neytiri said in a soft tone tucking your hair behind your ear. "Mother." You say again. "Y/N you will be Ao'nungs mate. We have talked to Ronal and Tonowari and we came to the conclusion that the pairing of you would be best." Jake said quickly.
Blinking at the news just given to you, a small smile traces your lips. You shake your head up and down as you turn away looking at the setting sun. "Okay." Was all you said as you walked away from them. They looked at each other and only took a sharp breath collectively.
And as your parents told you if your arrangement Ronal and Tonowari told Ao'nung. He was ecstatic, he had never been so happy in his life. But what gnawed at him was this overwhelmed sense that you didn't feel as happy over your betrothal. So he sat at the ilu deck and looked at the water, happiness and sadness fighting over what controls him.
You see him and slowly sit next to him. "Hey." You say.
"Hey." He replies.
"So you hear," you say. "We're getting married." You say giggling a little after.
He smiles at you and laughs and he turns fully to you and takes a deep breath. "Are you happy with this arrangement you have a choice Y/N." Ao'nung says looking away from you. It was silent, the most uncomfortable silence he's ever been in.
"Guess I'm stuck with you Ma Ao'nung." You say his ears perk at your words and he smiles.
"Happy to be stuck with you Ma Y/N."

Platonic Yandere-ish Ronal/Tonowari/Tsireya/Aonung X Human Child Reader
~A/N: I started writing this right after I posted my first avatar work. Reader is pretty gender neutral in this, but it IS implied that they are female. Your only real descriptors are you being tiny and having long hair.
~Masterlist
Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3
CW: yandere behavior (platonic), possesive behavior, obsessive behavior, near death experience, the human scientists are assholes
~
-You came to Pandora with your Aunt when you were five. (Same as the other Platonic Yandere Avatar thing I did) You lived on the lab base with her and some other scientists that barely tolerated you.
-You were constantly bored out of your mind because you were locked out of the lab every day, where every other sentient being was. So, when there was a meal break you asked your Aunt if you could explore during the day. She said yes, but you had to wear an oxygen mask because the air here could hurt you otherwise.
-You weren’t happy about the mask and asked her if there was any way around wearing it. She told you there was but it was painful. Which, rightfully, made you scared but you said you’d do it anyway. So, your first interaction with all of the scientists wasn’t very pleasant, but it let you go outside!
-You fell in love with the planet during your trips outside the lab facility. But, you would have to move to a new one soon since they wanted to study the stuff on a different part of the planet. So, you packed your stuff in a watertight bag and went in the helicopter with, surprisingly, not your Aunt.
-During the trip over, you were constantly looking out the side of the helicopter to look at what you were passing, even if it was mostly ocean.
You were in awe at how beautiful Pandora was all over. As you were looking out the windows, you missed what was happening around you. The rest of the scientists did not like you or your presence in the labs. They knew your Aunt got annoyed with you too. So, they came up with a plan to get rid of you, but not necessarily kill you. They knew it was time when they saw the reefs approaching.
While you were looking out the window you noticed that one of the scientists was moving towards where you were. They grabbed your duffle bag before opening the door of the helicopter. You were panicking, not knowing what was going on. They then grabbed you, handed you your bag, and threw you out of the helicopter.
You gripped your bag as hard as you could while screaming on the way down. You passed out as soon as you hit the water.
-Tsireya had been watching the sky people contraption as soon as she noticed it in the sky. She was confused when the side of it opened up, but then saw a tiny human with a big bag get thrown out of it. She rushed over to where you would land, while listening to your screams as you fell.
-She immediately dove to get you when you hit the surface of the water. You had lost consciousness under the surface, so she dragged you to the surface, with your bag, and began swimming back to shore with you in tow.
-Once she made it to the shore, she carried you to where her mother was, in the healer’s tent. You were such a tiny thing, and she was so worried for you.
-She got her mother’s attention as soon as she entered the tent. Ronal was floored that her daughter had a human with her, but focused on your physical state right after.
Tsireya explained to her mother all she knew as she laid you down on a mat, then set your bag next to you. Ronal was shocked at the story. She knew humans were cruel, but this was a new low to her. Throwing out a child. She immediately got to work on waking you up, doing some chants. (A/N: Basing this off the scene when Kiri had a seizure)
After she was done, your eyes immediately shot open and you bolted upright. You then promptly leaned to the side and coughed up some water. As soon as you were done with your coughing fit, you looked over to the two navi women looking at you intently. You gave them a strained smile and a wave before laying back down.
They went right to either side of your head and began talking to you. They asked you what your name was, how old you were, and what happened. You introduced yourself then told them the full story of how you ended up in the water. Needless to say they were both furious about it. What kind of monsters would endanger a child like this?!
You then asked who they were, quite politely too. Ronal took the initiative to talk, saying, “My name is Ronal, and this is my daughter Tsireya.” You just smiled and told them they had pretty names. This made them both chuckle and thank you for your sweet words. They asked if you felt alright enough to move, and you said yes.
-They then both got up and waited for you to do the same. They both smiled at how tiny you were compared to them, you only came up to the middle of Tsireya’s thigh and the bottom of Ronal’s. Tsireya picked up your bag and motioned you to follow them.
-You tried to keep up with their slow and small steps, but weren’t really able to. So, Ronal asked if she could carry you. You smiled and reached up to her. She leant down and picked you up, tiny enough to be cradled to her chest like a baby.
-You were having the time of your life being carried so high up. You took in your surroundings with a big smile as they walked through their tribe to their home. Once they got there, Tsireya set down your bag, and Ronal set you on the ground. To which you immediately went around looking at everything that you could see.
-It wasn’t very long before Tonowari and Aonung each heard the whispers of a tiny human with Ronal and Tsireya. So, they both hurried back to their home to get to the bottom of it.
-Sure enough, there was a tiny human in their home, looking around at everything with a smile. The two women noticed them immediately and motioned them closer.
Tsireya got your attention by saying, “Hey Y/N, can you come over here and meet some more people?” You looked over as soon as you heard her, then nodded before running over to her. Which was more of a fast waddle to them.
Once you were in front of her she asked you to introduce yourself to the two men. So, you said, “Hello! My name’s Y/N and I’m five!” You held up five fingers while saying it quite loudly. This made the bigger man chuckle and the smaller one just smiled at you.
Then the bigger man said, “My name is Tonowari, and this one is my son Aonung. Ronal is my mate and Tsireya is my daughter.” You told him name was cool. He chuckled again before asking how you got here. So, you went over the whole story again. Which made him angry at the humans and reignited the flames of anger in the two women.
“Well, that’s too bad for them. Would you like to stay with us since you’re here now?” Tonowari asked you in a very kind tone. You nodded very animatedly, excited to stay with the first nice people you met on that planet.
-And right after that sweet moment, your stomach rumbled very loudly. Everyone in that room heard it. Which made you look down and blush, but all the navi laugh.
-They went to start making lunch for you. Ronal had decided to make a meal for all of them since it was close enough to lunchtime for it. She just didn’t want to make you stay hungry until dinner.
-While she started making the food, Tonowari had picked you up. You gripped him while seeing the place from a new angle. It amazed you again, how pretty everything was. Plus, Tonowari was very tall!
-You giggled as he walked around their home with you by his shoulder. He pointed things out to you as he went along, and you listened intently. Right as he was done showing you around, Ronal finished with the food.
-She called everyone over to eat. They all sat around where she set the food, with you in Tonowari’s lap. She made plates for her whole family before having you make a plate for yourself, as she didn’t know how much to give you. You were a tiny human, but the amount of food you took didn’t seem like enough to her, and as she looked at her family they seemed to agree. They decided to leave it be for now.
-Everyone started eating after you were done making your plate. You finished your food before everyone else and set down your plate in front of you. Tonowari asked you if you wanted anymore as you started leaning back against him. You just shook your head before yawning.
-Everyone’s heart just melted looking at you falling asleep on Tonowari. Tonowari himself felt happy that you felt safe enough with them to fall asleep on him, and the others were jealous that it wasn’t them.
The family left you be as they finished their lunch. Once they all finished their own food, Tonowari stood up with you in his arms as he made his way to where his family sleeps and laid down with you. As he settled down you snuggled into him further. Soon enough, the whole family gathered around him and you, to keep watch over you as you slept.
They stayed that way for about an hour before you started to wake up. You blinked your eyes open before reaching a hand up to rub the sleep from them. You sat up and stretched before looking around yourself. You noticed that Tonowari was what you were laying on, and the other three were sitting around him.
All of them thought it was adorable, what you did after you woke up. They all had smiles on their faces as you finally looked around yourself. With how unaware you were when tired, it was a good thing you ended up there with them to watch over you.
You groggily said, “Good morning.” Then you stood up to stretch more before making your way over to your bag and digging around in it for something. Tsireya and Ronal got up to go with you to your bag and see what you had in it. It looked like mostly clothes, what looked like a blanket, a brush, a smaller brush, some circle things, and a piece of human technology. You grabbed the brush and circle things before turning to look at them.
You looked at the two women and asked if they could brush and do your hair. It was a mess after being dragged through the water. They each smiled and agreed before taking you somewhere else in their home. Ronal sat behind you and started to gently brush through your hair, and Tsireya sat in front of you to ask you what you wanted them to do with your hair.
You sat happily and described french braids to them. With the small explanation that the braids in their hair could mess up yours if they put them in it. They absorbed the information happily. Both took a mental note that tight, but not tiny, braids were fine in your hair. Once Ronal was done brushing your hair, you asked her to part it down the middle to do two braids. She parted it and both women started on a side of your head and quickly finished the simple braids.
You ran over to their version of a mirror and craned your head to look at it. Aonung came over and picked you up so you could look at yourself in it. You beamed and thanked them for doing your hair. They smiled and told you it was no problem. You walked to the ‘door’ of their home and looked out at the water. You saw some navi people swimming in the water by the rock things and wanted to go swimming as well.
You turned to the navi around you and asked them if you could go swim. They told you they had no problem with it, only that Tsireya and Aonung had to go with you just in case something happened. You happily agreed and went to your bag to get out a swimsuit. They looked at you curiously for it. You explained the general purpose of a swimsuit and why it was important for humans to wear them when swimming. They were still confused but nodded anyway, surprised at how sensitive human skin was.
You asked for help changing, and within a minute you were ready. This time Aonung was the one carrying you out to the water. He set you down just as he reached the shore. Him and his sister watched as you immediately went into the shallow water and waded around. It went up to your waist, but would only go up to each of their calves. You went to look around in the water, occasionally picking up a shell and tossing it to the dry part of the sand, clearly wanting to keep them.
You waved both of them to go in the water with you as you went to the deeper parts of it. They quickly went to your side to swim with you. You almost ignored them as you paddled your way into the deeper water. You started to float on your front so you could look down into the water. Everything on Pandora was just so pretty to you, you were always in awe at anything new. After only a minute you brought your head up to the surface to get some air.
You swam a little farther out before taking a deep breath and diving down a bit. You swam in little circles under the surface, looking at everything around you with wonder. The siblings were just looking at you with amusement. Happy that you like being here and being in the water. Though you can’t stay under for very long at this point.
-Once you came back up, they went right beside you to ask if you wanted to learn how to hold your breath for a longer period of time. You enthusiastically agreed.
-So, for a week you get some light lessons on breathing properly to be underwater for longer. Light, because Ronal and Tonowari didn’t want you to strain yourself too much. Plus, they each had you with them when doing their safer duties so they could spend time with you. Those lessons and meal times were their kids’ chance to bond with you more.
-As you got used to living with the family, they began to consider you family. Their baby. And they were very protective of you. They kept you close to them at all moments of the day, no matter what they were doing and who they were with.
-They began subtly pushing you to call them your family. They begin to use phrases like ‘your siblings’, ‘your mother’, ‘your father’, and so on. And you accept them, but continue to call all of them by their names. You’ve given them all nicknames, which they think are cute, but they want you to acknowledge them as your family.
-They think since you haven’t done it on your own, that they’ll have to prompt you to start calling them by familial terms. They brought it up to you one night at dinner.
-Tonowari looked over at you, who was sitting in his other daughter’s lap, and brought forth the question.
“Y/N, you have been with us for a while now. We all see you as a part of our family now. But you still call us by our names. Can you try to refer to us as family from now on? Like Mother, father, sister, and brother?” He said this softly and tentatively. Maybe a little afraid of your response. You just looked up to him with a thinking face. You finally spoke to tell them that you thought of them as family too and would start adjusting to using different terms.
All of the family were so happy. Tsireya had hugged you further to her after hearing you say that. And the rest had beaming smiles aimed at you. You smiled back at them before going back to your meal. The rest of the night went as it usually did.
-In the morning is when things changed a little bit. As everyone woke up, you said your good mornings as per usual. When you wanted to be picked up you reached up to Tonowari and said, “Up please Papa.” His heart melted when you said that and he instantly scooped you up and cradled you closer to him.
-You leaned your head onto his shoulder as he held you while the rest of the family helped make breakfast. You ate breakfast in your new father’s lap, then thanked Ronal by saying, “Thank you for breakfast Mama.” She said, “It’s no problem at all, my baby.” The whole family was smiling at the interaction.
-You couldn’t figure out a way to use brother or sister in a sentence said to your new siblings, and you told them this. They were a bit disappointed at it, but figured it was a human thing with how you learned to speak.
-They both hugged you and told you they don’t mind, as long as you knew they were your siblings now. You smiled and nodded before beginning to drag them to the water with you so you could wade around for shells and swim around a bit before lunch.
-You spent about 2 hours collecting shells you thought were pretty while Tsireya helped you and Aonung swam with his friends for a bit. His friends liked you, but you were very shy around them and preferred being around your family.
-After you got bored with the shells, you put the ones you liked the most in the small basket your sister always brought for you. Then, you went back to Tsireya and dragged her with you into the deeper water. Well, she let you take her with you, and just let you think you were moving her on your own.
-She continues to help you with your breathing so you could stay under for longer. You have gotten up to four minutes underwater. Your sister was proud of you for making so much progress, but knew you could improve a little bit more. You would never need to do anything under the water, as a human and the precious baby of their family, but she knew being underwater and looking around at everything made you happy. And she really wanted you to be, and stay, happy.
You had taken some extra instruction from your sister before following the special breathing and diving below the surface. You went about halfway down and towards the reefs. You gently touched the stationary life on the reef and smiled as it touched you back. Tsireya was right with you, smiling as you continued to admire the nature you now saw everyday.
She kept an eye on you as you did your daily exploration. You went over multiple organisms on the reef before making your way back to the surface. You took another breath before going back under and swaying your arms to the movements of the tiny school of fish by you. You continued to do this before going back to the surface again.
This time Tsireya came up with you. She knew you got tired quickly and would take a short nap before lunch. You went a bit away from her and started floating on your back before going still and lightly dozing off. She knew you floated well, but stayed close to you anyway.
You stayed in your light sleep until you two got called to lunch. Your parents had brought the food they made outside so you could eat outside of the marui. You almost pranced up onto the shore after fully waking up and swimming as far as you could until you could stand on the bottom. Tsireya wasn’t far behind you, and Aonung started to swim over after spotting you from a distance with his friends.
Aonung swam as quick as he could and made it to you two right as you were exiting the water. You waddled over to your parents as they sat down on the sand. You stopped a little ways away from them and wrung your hair out as best as you could before walking over to your mother and plopping down in her lap.
-Everyone quickly gathered around the food and made their plates, with Tonowari making yours. He still thought it was too little food, but you never finished it if they added a little bit more, plus you seemed healthy and happy enough.
-They started eating at the same time as you did. You happily ate and then set your bowl aside as you finished, then leaned further back into Ronal while everyone else finished their lunch. Tonowari took the remnants of lunch back to the marui and Ronal picked you up as she stood.
-She took you with her as she went further into the village. She had some duties as Tsahik, and she was going to have you accompany her until dinner.
-She had brought your basket of shells to where she would be so you could continue your little projects with them as she did her duties. She sat you down on a cushion with your basket and plenty of string for your projects. She sat down right beside you as she started with what she needed to do.
-After an hour she looked over to see what you were doing. She saw you had weaved some of the shells into something, but couldn’t figure out what it was at first. As you held it up to your head to check if it was large enough, she realized you were making a headpiece to mimic hers with the tiny shells you had collected.
-It only took you another fifteen minutes to finish it before you had put it on. It was a combination of pink and white shells framing your face, a pink one in the center of your forehead, and it looped around your two ‘french braids’ to keep it secure to your head.
-You turned to her and waited for her to notice. She had been watching you as you put it on, but hummed and turned to you like she had just seen you turn to her. She looked over the headpiece with you directly looking at her, and told you that it was very pretty on you.
You smiled and hopped up to your feet, which made the shells clink together when you moved. You went over to Ronal and hugged one of her arms and said, “Thank you Mama! I’m gonna go show Papa and my siblings!” You giggled when she kissed you head before motioning to the doorway of the hut you were in.
You giggled as you ran out of the hut to find the other members of your family. You ran to where you thought your siblings would be, swimming with their friends. You stopped with your feet in the water and called out to them, “Reya! Nung! Come see what I made!”
You easily got their attention and they looked over and noticed something on your head, but couldn’t see it well. They swam over to you and finally saw what it was. A shell headpiece. They told you it was pretty on you, and asked who made it. You proudly said that you made it yourself. They both kissed one of your cheeks and told you they were impressed with your work.
You asked them where your dad was so you could show him too. They told you he would be coming back from fishing in a few minutes. You went to the dock and watched as the group of hunters appeared in the distance with full pouches of fish. You stood on the dock and waited for the group to get closer before calling out to your dad.
You shouted, “Papa!” which got Tonowari’s attention and he came over to where you were standing on his skimwing. He stopped just beside you and hopped onto the dock to pick you up, knowing the other men would deal with his fish he caught.
Right as he settled you in his arms, facing him, he noticed the new thing about you. He complimented the headpiece, saying it made you look very pretty. You giggled and responded, “Thank you Papa! I made it myself!” You were very proud of what you made, and so was he. He kissed all over your cheeks and forehead while telling you how proud he was of your skills, and how cute you were. You were loving the attention and the tinkling noise the shells made.
-You kept the headpiece on everyday after that. Mixing your hair up from two braids to two ponytails, to two space buns every few days.
-But, about two weeks after you finished it, you started to not feel very good. You thought you had a cold, and told your parents this. They were very concerned and asked what that was. You told them it was a minor sickness and they both immediately looked you over and asked if you would be okay.
-You told them you just needed some rest, and maybe more water throughout the day. They decided to keep you with them during the days because you complained about feeling cold too, even though you felt warm to them.
-The first day of your cold, you were strapped to Ronal’s back and stayed with her the whole day. Really only waking up to eat and drink. The second day of it, you were strapped to Tonowari’s back. And he would occasionally reach over his shoulder and pat your head. Still with the headpiece on, even though you weren’t awake to appreciate it, you insisted you wear it.
-In the middle of your day with your dad, some other people had arrived through the air. You woke up from being jostled a little as your dad rushed to the docks where they had landed. You still had your head resting on his shoulder, so you looked over at the other navi.
You noticed they looked a lot different then all the navi you had gotten used to in your time here. You hummed while looking at them, which made your father look at you and rub your head before turning to them and talking to them.
At some point your mother showed up and rubbed your back before going to the new group of navi and inspecting them.
While they were doing this, the Sully family was looking at you and wondering why a tiny human was with the Metkayina, and apparently was accepted by the chief and his wife. They all thought you were super cute snoozing on Tonowari’s shoulder with your tiny shell headpiece.
Not long after your mother showed up, your siblings did too. They looked over at you to check on you before inspecting the new arrivals. Aonung wasn’t impressed by them, but Tsireya was very curious. Your dad decided your siblings would teach the new kids your ways. You quietly said to him, “Papa, can I go with them?”
You were too cute to say no to, so he just unstrapped you from himself and handed you over to your sister. She just said she would take care of you and strapped you to her front, facing her, and walked off to show the new people around.
You looked over her shoulder and waved at the new people before laying your head down and going back to sleep.
~A/N: There will probably be a pt 2 to this at some point soon

Hey just a friendly reminder to all the new and old fanfic writers for Avatar Way Of The Water(or any fandom ever), that "x oc" is NOT "x reader". I know the movie only came out a bit ago but I am seeing some writers tagging their work as "x reader" but its an oc. I'm tired of seeing "x oc" when I'm specifically searching for a "x reader". As soon as a author adds a name to the reader that sets it apart from the "x reader" tag. It is now an oc and a character. It doesnt matter if u dont like writing (y/n), y/n, (reader), (name) or even (___), these are what we use in place for the readers name or even their own oc. If u dont like using these don't write "x reader" content, This is so there is inclusion for everyone in the "x reader" tag as soon as an author adds a name it is needed to be tagged as "x oc", and ONLY "x oc"
So pls respect other readers and use the appropriate tags.

Orphic (pt.3)
pairing; Ao'nung x Sully!reader Orphic; (adj.) mysterious and entrancing; beyond ordinary understanding words; 3,000 warnings; injury, mentions of death Pt. 1; Pt. 2 Okay, the thing is, every single time I attempt to write a story like this, I always try to make it slow burn. However, as apparent in this chapter, I have ZERO self control. They were supposed to hate each other for a few more chapters. Anywho I'm not really mad, y'all are gonna love the next chapter (hopefully as much as I loved writing it)
“I wish I was there.” Kiri smiles, wonder in her eyes. “The ocean has blessed you with a gift, brother.”
“The tulkun have not returned yet.” Ao’nung mentions, his back against a palm tree as he rests his arm on his knee. “And even then, no tulkun is alone.”
“Well, this one was. And it was missing a fin. Like a stump. On the left side.”
“Poor tulkun.” Tuk mutters quietly as Y/n frowns.
“Payakan.” Tsireya says quietly.
“What?” Ao’nung mutters.
“It’s Payakan.”
“Who’s Payakan?” Y/n asks curiously.
“A young bull who went rogue. He’s outcast. Alone. And he has a missing fin.” Rotxo answers.
“They say he is a killer.” Tsireya adds.
“No, no.” Lo’ak tries.
“He killed Na’vi, and other tulkun.” Ao’nung explains with a loose shrug, and by the look on his face, Y/n can tell that it is a serious crime. “Not here, but far to the south.”
“No, he’s no killer.”
“Lo’ak, you are lucky to be alive.”
“I’m telling you guys, he saved my life. He’s my friend.”
Neteyam stands with a smirk, “My baby bro! The mighty warrior, who faced the killer tulkun, and lived to tell about it.”
Lo’ak shrugs him off, standing angrily, “You guys aren’t listening.”
“Lo’ak, I’m listening!” Tuk reassures.
“Lo’ak, come back!” Kiri tries, but the boy is walking away.
“You skxawns.” Y/n sighs, standing up. She glances at Ao’nung. “I’m going to go relax.”
“Wait, we have somewhere we want to bring you guys.” Ao’nung stops her, grabbing onto her hand. “You’ll want to see it.”
“Oh, okay.” She nods, an indigo hue coming to her cheeks. “Alright then.”
Tsireya smiles widely as she stands, “Let us go!”
Neteyam stands and glares at Ao’nung, pulling his hand off of Y/n and dragging the girl to the water. She smiles and calls for her ilu, before diving into the ocean. Ao’nung comes up beside her on his ilu, signing to her.
“I bet I’ll beat you in a race.” He signs, grinning smugly.
She raises a brow, “First off, you would not. Second, I don’t know where we are going.”
He thinks for a moment, “Sounds like a you problem.” And he takes off quickly, leaving a trail of bubbles behind him. Y/n rolls her eyes, and follows him. She stays just right behind him for now, allowing him to lead the way. Once he’s steadily heading towards a large cave entrance, she urges her ilu ahead. Her ilu managed to pull forward, ahead of Ao’nung, and she smirks. They enter the cave, which turns out to be an entrance to something even better. Y/n’s mouth gapes in awe as she surfaces, looking around the beautiful terrain.
“I told you you’d want to come along.” Ao’nung smiles at her, surfacing beside her.
She smiles at him, “And I told you I’d win.”
He scoffs lightly, “I let you win.”
Y/n nods, “Yeah, I’m sure you did.”
“We are here.” Tsireya says to her siblings softly. “This is the Cove of the Ancestors. Our most sacred place.” Y/n shields her eyes from the shining sun as it begins to fall behind the rocks. “Eclipse is the best time of day to be here.” Once it’s darkened, they make their way to something glowing brightly under the water. “This is it, this is the Spirit Tree.”
Y/n’s face lights up, if they’ll have it, she can connect with her parents here. The group swim down there, and Ao’nung nudges Y/n’s side. She shoos his hand away, sticking her tongue out at him. He smiles, the sides of his eyes crinkling. Y/n makes it to a branch like part of the tree, and carefully connects her braid to it. She closes her eyes, and allows her senses to fall away.
She’s back home, walking through the forest. It’s dark out, but the various glowing foliage light her way perfectly. She hears laughter, shared between a man and woman, and she follows the sound. Walking through a bush, a small clearing is revealed. Sat in the middle, entangled in each other, are her parents. The man looks at her, and his face lights up.
“My daughter.” He says softly, smiling.
The woman looks over, and untangles herself from her mate, standing to embrace her daughter tightly. “Y/n.” She grins, holding her close. Y/n accepts the hug, her eyes tearing up a bit.
“Hi, guys.” She responds quietly as a strong pair of arms wrap around the both of them.
“How are you, child?” Her father asks quietly, rubbing her back.
“I’m okay.” She responds, sniffling softly.
“So, why are you crying?” Her mother asks, pulling away enough to wipe her cheeks of any stray tears.
“We left the forest.” Her parents nod, aware. “And I… said something I shouldn’t have to Jake.”
Her mother hums quietly, “He’ll forgive you, sweet child.”
Her father pats her back, “He cares about you, as if you were his own daughter. No matter what you said, the two of you can fix it.”
Y/n nods, smiling a little. “Thank you guys… I’m happy I could see you again.”
“The same goes for us.” Her mother responds.
Y/n feels as if her body is being shaken violently, and she frowns. “I think- I have to go.”
“So soon?” Her father asks.
She nods, “I’m sorry, I will come back.”
Her mother kisses her forehead, “Stay strong, my daughter. We love you.”
“Very much.” Her fathers adds.
Y/n awakes abruptly to Ao’nung shaking her. She looks at him, rather annoyed he pulled her away from her parents. But upon seeing his look of worry, and following his hand to where he was pointing, she forgets about it. Kiri is seizing. The tree's glow is strobing as Y/n rushes over to her, she disconnects her braid and swims upwards, trying to get Kiri to the surface.
The group surfaces, “Come on, someone help me!” Y/n yells, pulling Kiri to her ilu.
“Kiri!” Tuk cries. Y/n’s ilu squawks as the girl pushes Kiri over it’s back. She gets on behind Kiri.
“Is she breathing?” Rotxo asks worriedly. Normally, Y/n would tease him about it, but now is not the time. Y/n plugs Kiri’s nose, bending down and breathing air into her lungs. She does it a few times, before Kiri coughs.
“Get her to the village! Hurry!”
“Let’s go! Let’s move!” Y/n instructs out loud, and her ilu takes off.
Y/n watches worriedly as a copter lands on the sand. She stands next to Ao’nung, which brings her a bit of comfort. Since the night before, it’s different with him. He sat next to her when she was struggling, and he offered to help and stayed when she didn’t tell him anything. He showed her a side she wasn’t sure even existed in him, and she’s thankful he did. Norm walks out of the copter, and Y/n doesn’t have time to be happy about seeing a familiar face. Her father and Norm exchange a short hug and greeting.
“Neteyam, Y/n, keep them back!” Jake instructs. Y/n frowns and glances over the crowd, sighing deeply.
“Stay back guys.” She says enthusiastically, Ao’nung laughs softly.
“You’re very efficient.”
“I try.”
He takes her arm gently, “Come. I’d like to show you something.”
“But Kiri…”
“Will understand.”
Y/n for a moment, but ultimately decides she’d be no help if she was there, so she nods. “Okay.”
“Are you leading me to a secluded place to murder me?” Y/n asked, mostly joking, her hands covering her eyes as her ilu steadily moves through the water.
“Not yet, no.” Ao’nung smiles, glancing at the girl.
“Oh, so soon?”
“Most likely.”
“Encouraging.”
“You gonna open your eyes one day, or what?”
“You didn’t tell me I could.”
“Well, you can.”
“Are you sure?”
Ao’nung laughs, and Y/n smiles. “Just open your damn eyes, skxawng.”
“Sheesh, sheesh, fine.” She slowly removes her hands, and her eyes light up. They’re in a cave, decorated with glowing foliage and moss. The two of them are in the pool, in the middle of the cave, and surrounded by rocky ledges. It’s one of the most beautiful places she’s seen.
“What do you think?” Ao’nung asks softly, studying her expression.
Y/n looks over at him and grins, “I thought it was very beautiful until I had to see you, fishlips.”
He laughs, splashing water at her, “Shut up, treehugger.”
She splashes him back, chuckling quietly, “Sorry, sorry. It is beautiful here. And I guess you don’t ruin the view.”
“Oh, thanks.” He smiles, sliding off his ilu. He sits on the rocks, his feet dangling in the water. Y/n joins him, accidentally sitting too close, and she’s hyper aware of her thigh touching his. “You don’t have to tell me… but what happened yesterday? Is it something I can… help with?”
Y/n glances at him, then back at the water. “No.” She answers softly. “Nothing you can change. It’s just…” Ao’nung waits patiently for her to answer, watching her. “Jake and Neytiri… they aren’t my parents, not really.”
He tilts his head, “Then… who are your parents?”
A ghost of a smile appears on her face as she thinks of them, “Their names were Tsu’tey and Y/n. I got my name from my mother.”
“I assumed.” He teases.
“Shush. Anyway, they, uhm, they died. My father, before I was born, and my mother during childbirth.” She stares at the water intently.
“I’m sorry.” Ao’nung says softly, taking her hand.
“It’s okay. Uh, Jake and my mom were best friends, they became a part of the Omatikaya clan together as avatars. And my father and Neytiri grew up together, so…” She shrugs. “They took me in when my mom died and named me after her.”
Ao’nung hums softly, “Is that why you were crying yesterday? You miss them?”
“No- well, I do miss them. A lot. But uhm, I said something I shouldn’t have to Jake.” Calling him by his name felt foreign on her tongue. “I told him that I wish it was him that… died. And not my father.”
Ao’nung nods, squeezing her hand, “And that’s untrue?”
She nods, “Very. I just feel suffocated sometimes.”
“I understand that.”
She looks over at him, “I didn’t even explain why.”
“The crippling pressure to constantly take care of your younger siblings?” Y/n’s silent and he smiles a little. “I understand.”
“Tsireya?”
“Yeah. It’s not like she gets in trouble much, but everything can be so dangerous sometimes. And, you know, I’m going to be the future Olo’eyktan, so I need to take care of the rest of the clan as well.”
Y/n nods, “I understand. I hate to say it, fishlips, but I think we have a lot more in common than we realized.”
He smiles, “I’ll never hug a tree.”
She shrugs, “You’re loss, honestly. They’re very good huggers and they never judge. No one, other than trees and my father, have met my hug expectations.”
“Well, you just haven’t received one of my hugs before.”
Y/n raises a brow, “You are not good at hugging.”
“How do you know?”
“I can just tell.”
He scoffs, “That’s disrespectful.”
“It’s just the truth.”
He let’s go of her, swiftly standing up. “Stand up.”
She laughs a little, “What?”
“I said “Stand up.””
The girl hesitantly does so, and yelps as Ao’nung tightly wraps his arms around her shoulders. She pauses for a moment, before slowly hugging him back, wrapping her arms around his waist. She rests her head on his chest, hiding her smile. His hug is meeting her expectations. He buries his face in her hair, breathing her in deeply. This is his sly way to hug her, and he silently gloats to himself. She can feel his breathing, the gentle rise and fall of his chest, and his abnormally fast heartbeat.
“Are you scared of me?” She asks quietly, repeating his own words.
“What?” He asks softly, not getting the reference.
“Are you scared of me?” She repeats.
He pauses for a moment, smiling a little. “I’m not scared of you.” He whispers.
“Then why is your heart beating so fast?”
“‘Cause you’re cute.”
Once the two arrive home, Y/n rushes to the familiar morai, where Kiri finally awoke. She gasps softly, kneeling beside Tuk.
“Oh, Kiri.” She says softly, brushing hair of the girl’s eyes. “I’m so glad you’re okay.” Kiri cries quietly, taking Y/n’s hand and squeezing tightly. “Can I hug you?” Y/n asks quietly, and Kiri nods. She pulls Kiri up slightly, enough to wrap her arms around her and hugs her gently. “Sh, you’re okay.” She reassures, rubbing her back.
A smaller pair of arms join the hug, and then their mother’s. The Sully girls stayed in that group hug for a while, relishing each other’s presence. Finding comfort in each other’s support. The peaceful atmosphere is ruined by Jake, Norm, and Max reentering the tent. The girls pull away, each of them secretly wiping their eyes.
“Sorry to interrupt.” Norm says sincerely.
“You’re okay.” Y/n responds, glancing at her father. He meets her gaze, and she frowns.
“Can we speak?” He asks gently, and she nods. She squeezes Kiri’s hand one last time, and nervously follows her father out.
“I’m sorry I didn’t stop her from seizing- or that I wasn’t there when you guys were trying to wake her up. I didn-” She’s cut off by her father’s arms crushing her in a hug.
“No, I’m sorry.” He admits quietly, and his tense shoulders relax once his daughter hugs him back. “I’ve put impossible expectations on you, and went too far scolding you when you didn’t meet them. I know I’m not your father.” His voice cracks, but he tries to hide it with a cough. “And I’ve failed stepping in as one. But you’re my babygirl, no matter what… even if I’m not your dad.”
She shakes her head, her eyes filled with tears, “No, don’t say that. I can’t deny that you’ve made some mistakes, but you were doing the best you could. What I said yesterday wasn’t true. It’s not how I feel. I do wish my father was alive, but not that you took his place. I love you, dad.” Her voice breaks.
He breathes in deeply, rubbing her back. “I love you too, babygirl. Eywa has blessed me with you.”
She smiles a little bit, a few tears leaking out, “The feelings are mutual.” The two pull apart, and Jake gently wipes the tears from his daughter’s face.
“How were you supposed to have prevented her seizure?” He asks, his brow raised. His eyes are teary, but he doesn’t cry.
Y/n laughs softly and shrugs, “No clue.”
He nods, patting her shoulder. “You do your best to keep your siblings safe. I appreciate you.”
She smiles, swallowing thickly, “Thank you.”
He ruffles her hair, “Come on, let’s go inside.”
Y/n glances behind her father, to see Ao’nung alone on the beach. “I- uh, I’ll be right there.”
He glances behind him, and his brows raise in surprise. “Uh huh, alright then.”
“I’m just making new friends, like you said.”
“Yeah, yeah. Go. Don’t be too long.”
Y/n smiles, and givs her dad one more quick hug. “I love you, dad.”
“I love ya too, kid.” He kisses the top of her head, before nudging her towards the boy. “Go on.”
She quietly walks to the boy and sits beside him, once again their thighs touch. She nudges him with her knee, and he looks over quietly. He studies her for a moment, before sighing deeply and looking back out to the water.
“A penny for your thoughts?” She asks softly.
“A what?”
She pauses for a moment, “Right… a super cool shell for your thoughts?”
He hums quietly, “I have plenty of super cool shells.”
She nods, “Okay. Well, I’m pretty sure mine is cooler.”
“May I see it?”
“...Not at this moment, unfortunately, no.”
He smiles a little, “Yeah, that’s what I thought.”
She smiles back at him, “Just thinking out loud here, but I’m assuming I haven’t convinced you?”
“You’d be correct to assume that.”
She sighs, shrugging a little, “Welp. It was worth a shot.” She stays there, looking out over the horizon. She doesn’t say anything else, just sits there. Like he did for her. She’s not sure if that’s what he wants, but he hasn’t told her to leave yet.
“Is Kiri alright?” He finally breaks the silence.
Y/n nods, “She’ll be okay. She’s just shaken up. I don’t know what Norm and Max think about what happened, but as far as I know, she’s okay.”
“That’s good. Whatever it is, I don’t think it’s something those skywalkers would know about.”
“Why’s that?”
“The Spirit Tree was reacting to her… it wasn’t something scientific, it was spiritual. That much is certain.”
“Yeah, I agree. All I’m worried about is whether or not she’s okay.”
“I understand.” He answers simply, and continues staring out into the ocean. The silence is comfortable, but Y/n can’t help but be slightly worried for the boy.
“Are you okay?” She asks gently, tearing her eyes away from the water to look at him again.
He doesn’t answer, and she doesn’t press. She bites her cheek, and scoots closer to rest her head on his shoulder. She understands him, he understands her. Although they got off on the wrong foot, people can always change. Eventually their true colors will always poke through the facade. It all depends on who decides the chip at the walls and gives the light a peephole to shine through. After a few moments, Ao’nung lays his head on top of the girl’s, and they sit together in silence.

𝓑𝓮𝓪𝓬𝓱 𝓽𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓰𝓸𝓷𝓮 𝔀𝓻𝓸𝓷𝓰
Summary: after the being teleported in Pandora it only took you few weeks to adapt at your surrounding, but one day the Na'vi who found you invited for you to come at the island for to enjoy the scenery but seeing everything what happend and the incident of his brother getting left behind beyond the reef.
𝓶𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓵𝓲𝓼𝓽
Pairings: platonic! Avatar x umbra with!human!reader
Tw: flashback, bullying and fighting, cursing, attempt murderer and long ass description
Authors note: hey sorry for not updating quickly I was stabbed by my cousin but anyways here's the story and also if you saw some errors and wrong grammar it
It's been a few weeks now after your arrival in Pandora due to your magic malfunction that cost you to be teleported far away from earth. So far you are taking it too well adapting to your surroundings for someone who got teleported and appeared in a foreign planet, So yes your doing good except for a certain blue cat-man who constantly likes to disturb you everytime he visit.
Neteyam never fails to visit you everyday after him and his siblings being taught the reef na'vi of their ways by the son and daughter of the clan Chief. Everytime he visit you he always teach you some info about Pandora and it's culture and their deity Eywa, He also teached you of their laungage according to him so you won't get killed due to miscommunication if ever a na'vi found you (little does he knows you can understand him perfectly due to your magic) let's just say it has a trial and errors.
Learning from neteyam is either learn quickly or be hitted of course you will hit him back harder.
"Na'ri"
"Ngari?"
"NA'RI!!"
"NA'WII??" A sigh of irratition and sound of being hitted was heard but of course a few second there was a another sound but being smacked harder and a hiss and whine from him. But one time he brought you some food to share it with you that was prepared by his mother for him and siblings to eat after their class. Since he was worried you might be starving since he never got a time to visit you, Touched by his thoughtfulness and kind gesture even though you can survive without a meal due to your training you accepted the food and eat it.
Sadly you will regret it later.
"Y/n are you alright? Is the food not up to your liking?
"....."
"Wait, why is your face turning whit-"
"BY THE GREAT MOTHER Y/N!!" Let's just say both of you agreed that you won't consume any Pandora livestock since you almost died due to food poisoning.
There was a day Neteyam will straight up complaining about his dad,his siblings especially the brother and the chief son who constantly harassing them to you while you where either busy meditating or waving something so you are stuck listening to him complaining to the point you already knew what he will to complain the next time he visit.
"Ugh I swear if he don't shut up and say another snide remarks around me and my siblings for being freaks and having a demon blood I would punch him"
"Then why wouldn't you do it? So he will stop harassing you guys?"
"What no dad would get angry at me for fighting the olektyan son and also his going to scold me"
"Bah! Fuck about your dad opinion because if I were you I would have beat his ass before I he can utter some insult at me and my sibling"
"Tempting sadly I could do nothing I can only threaten them with words"
So today was peaceful since neteyam was teaching you to wave some bracelet with the shells and pearl he found during their breathing exercises. He was teaching you how to twist, insert and knot so the seaweed it won't tear up while waving it, as you were to busy at the task at your hand you noticed that neteyam stopped waving and a look of thinking was present at his face.
"Hey y/n I was thinking how about you visit the island tomorrow?" He said at you, while you stopped what you were doing and looked at him dead in the eyes "Neteyam have you forgotten that your people hates humans? Do you want be dead the moment I step on the island?" I said to him deadpan during my stay here in the Pandora I have come to understand why the Na'vi hates the human so much, the human took everything greedily without care the surrounding to this world heck they have the nerve to act like the victim when the locals in this land fought back they are just like their ancestors disgusting.
He shook his head at what you said and looked at you determinely "I know but I was thinking far away to the village so the people won't see you, since you have been stayed cooped up in the cave this past few weeks I was thinking a changed of scenery?" He said you looked at neteyam softly for his concern at you, technically you could careless where you at but this past few weeks neteyam was making an effort at you always visiting and teaching you to the point you notice his always tired.
You sighed and nodded at neteyam he smiled brightly at you while you just rolled your eyes and smiled back at him "Good I will come back here to fetch you and I will bring you to the island tomorrow" you nodded at him. After hours of waving with neteyam he have decided to go back since his parents will notice that he was gone and was not at island, the two of you said your farewells while watching him return to the island you might have forgotten to tell him you already have visited the island where he and his family was staying up at your crow form but you just shrugged that thought.
Morning came and you decided to surprise him there. As you were standing outside the cave you were staying at you transformed into your crow form and flow up at the sky and headed at the island where neteyam was. As you were flying the scenery never fails to take your breath away the Pandora is truly beautiful throught it's blue aquatic clear seas you can see different marine life and it's corals and it's gigantic mangrove tree that serves as the village of the people in the island.
As you were nearing you saw some group of kids circling a girl at the beach looking at closely it's neteyam sister Kiri. As you put a spell on yourself to not be seen and you landed at the bushes as you watched neteyam brother lo'ak came to interfer to stop the chief son and his friends to making fun of Kiri. Let's just say you were highly entertained at what's happening and chanting for lo'ak to beat their asses but the chief son and his friends continues harassing them despite Kiri yelling to stop and lo'ak stopping their hands from pulling his tails at their grasp. And an angry neteyam came.
He pushed everyone away from his brother "you heard what she said leave them alone". While looking at the fish boy coldly. Fish boy friend was gonna say something stupid but he put his hands to stop while looking at neteyam stoicly "Back off. Now" Neteyam said seriously at fish boy as he put both hands into surrender position signaling he will back off as neteyam looked at everyone "from now on I want you all to respect my sister" he said to each on of them with authority that he won't hesitate to beat anyone who will continue harassing his siblings. One of fish boy friends hisses at him angry at what neteyam said to them while kiri sticked her tongue out teasing them while neteyam called his brother and sister to leave.
But sadly it escalated when lo'ak decided to punch fish boy and his friends jumped at lo'ak. You were just laughing while everyone was fighting seeing lo'ak getting his tail pulled and being slapped of fish boy friends tail and you noticed neteyam jumped in at the fight to help his brother while kiri was telling them to stop it "This is stupid" Kiri said while rolling her eyes but smiled while watching the fight. But sadly boys are boys they continued fighting, the fight was 2 vs 4 but you laughed harder watching lo'ak getting pulled by his tails but pulling the other boy ears while yelling at pain both you and Kiri just laughed at this stupid fight. But sadly the fight ended when a local who noticed the fight and fetched both the chief and neteyam dad.
As you were waiting for neteyam to come out of his home after he and his brother got scolded by their father and told his brother to apologies his brother immediately left angrly while neteyam followed after. As neteyam was walking a little far away from the village and heading straight where his ilu was to so he can fetch you, you have decided to reveal your presence to neteyam.
"Psst! Neteyam!" You called him he immediately looked at his right and saw you standing there hiding at the bushes. Neteyam was shocked seeing you here while you smiling at him teasingly. "Y/n? Wait how did you came here?" He asked clueless "wait a second did you just arrived here just now? How did you got here without a ilu?" As he walked were you at. "Well let's just say I saw everything" you cheekly said at him while neteyam just looked at you confused.
"What do you mean you saw everything?" He asked while you just smiled at him waiting for him to realized what at you said. And his face turned a dark shade of purple as he realized you saw the whole fight as you just laughed at him seeing him flustered. "you know you should have pulled their hair it will times hurt more" you said to neteyam as he just groned "can we just please not talk about what happened earlier?" He pleaded as you laughed harder.
It took an hour for neteyam to make you stop teasing him while the two of you were walking side by side at beach a little far away from the village but still close. The two of you were at the shore picking up some seashells and colorful stone for you to add to the bracelet you were waving and for his sister's to use. "Oh neteyam look at this sheshell I found" you said at him happily as neteyam come next to you and holds your hands as he inspect the sheshell you found.
"Wow I never saw a sheshell like this before not even the shells tuk and Kiri carried" he said as he inspected the shell that resemblance like a pearl. "How about you give this to your sister's especially to Kiri" you said to neteyam softly he removed his attention at the shell as he looked at you while you just smiled as you hold his hand give it at him. "It might cheer her up after what happend" as neteyam was going to refuse but both of you froze as you heard a person coming near at you while calling neteyam name.
Panicking neteyam pushed you at his back not noticing you changed into your crow form. As the person calling neteyam came closer, it was just tuk running at neteyam to show him the shells she found while looking at the beach "neteyam! Look at what I found" as tuk happily run at him while showing the shell she found. "Oh wow tuk this is pretty" he said at her.
But tuk stopped and noticed something at his brother back while looking at closely what it was. Noticing this neteyam panickly showed the shell you found for distraction."tuktuk look at what I found for you and Kiri to have" as he showed the pearl shell. And it worked as tuk immediately looked at the shell wow'ed. "Teyam where did you found this? This is so pretty oh I can't wait to show this to Kiri and to mama" as tuk happily holds the shell.
But before neteyam can reply a squak of sound was heard behind him and both tuk and him jumped at the strange sound as he turned around he was meet into a strange feathered creature. Realized that the strange creature was you as tuk hided at neteyam back while looking scared at you. "Neteyam what is that?" Tuk quietly said as you tilted your head and swim closer at tuk, as tuk was holding his brother as a shield neteyam holded gently tuk arm to reassure her doesn't mean harm when you got closer at tuk you affectionately peck tuk cheeks and caressing your head at tuk arm lovely.
A few caressing and a soft squak came from you make tuk comfortable. she started petting you softly feeling the soft feathers you have she smiled while looked at neteyam. "Teyam look at this creature it has a soft feather" as she continued to pet and neteyam also started petting you enjoying the soft feathers. Let's just say it turned into a petting season and it only stopped when Neteyam noticed it's almost eclipse and told tuk to go home and that you need to go since it's almost nigh time, but tuk resisting that she wants to you bring back at the village but neteyam told her no since you need to go home so tuk petted you last time and bid you farewell.
"Damn we almost got caught there" you said as you returned back beside neteyam. "So when will you gonna tell me you can turn into a creature?" He said at you while you scoffed "What do you mean creature for your information it's a crow, what you never saw a bird that has a feather?" You sass at him while he just looked at you deadpan. You just sighed as you walk off from the water and headed straight to near the village while neteyam hurriedly followed you.
Neteyam constantly pester you about how did you turned into your crow form meanwhile you turn deaf to any words he asked as the two of you continue walking both of heard a group of boys laughing. And looking at where it was you saw it was the chief son and his friends laughing something as they dismount in their ilu. Neteyam grasped your hands and quietly and walked away from the group so the both of you won't be noticed by them. But stopped when both of you heard what they were laughing about.
"Can't believe he thought we were going hunting" said on of fish boy friends as he laughed "yeah right and it only takes for him to agree to got outside of the reef is to meantion his older brother" as the group walked while still laughing as fish boy has a smirk at his face "I think he can find his way back after all his toruk makto son?". Hearing who it was you felt neteyam tighten his hold at your hands as you looked at him worriedly at him and to lo'ak.
Letting go of your hand he angryly walked at the direction where the group who was still laughing. As you quietly headed at the bushes to hide you watched neteyam pushed the others and holding the shoulders to to face him. The scene was scary seeing neteyam beared his fangs and hissed at fish boy friends run away and he who looked scared after threatining fish boy to tell him everything when he told what happend neteyam looked at him deadly as he grasped fish boy neck hard as both of them walked at the village to his house.
You who was still hiding at bushes while watching some volunteer go on search party to find lo'ak as you continue to watch you saw neteyam and heading along with his father but stopped as he looked at you and quietly headed at you. But stopped as you looked at him with no "it's okay I can go home your brother is important go find him" you mouthed at him and tilted your head to go follow his father. Looking complicated but nodded as he turn and walked where his father at.
Waiting for a min to check if the coast clear as you transformed back into your crow form and flies at the sky. While flying you saw the lights on the sea and looking closely they found his brother and now heading straight back at the village. You sigh a relief that he was found and nothing worse happen continuing to head where your cave at as you nearing it you transformed back and walked inside as you laid down the shell you found with neteyam at the beach near the woven mat as you laid down exhausted at today's event.

You were helping deliver some supplies to the healers when you saw Ao'nung getting treated, you rush over to him in needs of knowing what happened.
"Ao'nung! Are you ok?"
He scoffed while the healer finished up with him,
"Does it look like I am any less?" he smirked
You stayed quiet and sighed,
"Come," he said getting up
"But 'Nung, I have to help the healers today"
"Come on, It will not take long"
You looked back at the healers In sorrow and followed him. He however didn't tell you that you would be hunting outside the reef, especially not with his friends. You were about to go when the sully boy came to you.
Your ears perked up and you smiled,
"Hello sully boy!"
The rest turned to you as you spoke and as he rode up on his ilu,
"Ah, what's tree boy doing here?"
He rode up beside you and Ao'nung and spoke,
"I am sorry I hit you, so many times," he said terribly hiding a smile In which made you snicker
Ao'nung turned to you with an angry expression and your ears bent back and turned away shamefully, Lo'ak wasn't happy about that...It meant something.
Ao'nung looked back at his friends and they all smiled, something wasn't right...
"Ah, we should be friends!" he said holding out his hand for him to grab, he shook hands with him and spoke.
"Come hunting with us, outside the reef," he said deeply
"It's where the men hunt" he said with a convincing smile
"No way I'm not allowed-"
Ao'nung sighed quickly letting go of his hand,
"I must be asking the wrong brother"
"Ao'nung..-"
"Let's do it"
Ao'nung happily handed him his weapon and you all signaled your ilu's to go.
...
Once you all reached your destination you stopped and made sure Lo'ak was ok, thankfully he was and he was actually thrilled about the small parkour session.
"This way, I know a good spot!"
You all went underwater and let Lo'ak start hunting,
"Call the fish"
Lo'ak went behind a rock and did what he was told,
"What a moron!"
"Let's go!"
With that, they all swam away and you panicked now knowing what to do, you didn't want to mess up Lo'ak's focus and you barely knew your way around the ocean as far as you had went, once Ao'nung saw you weren't coming he quickly swam back pulling you by your arm.
...
You were casually making jewelry for yourself for the sully boy as a small apology gift for when he returned when you heard the horn blow and the commotion became louder as rushing became a thing as well.
You stood up and jogged out of your tent, You had tapped someone and asked what was going on,
"The sully boy is missing!" a former warrior answered as he hurridly went to the action, you felt your heart sink. Had he been out and missing for that long?
You hurriedly ran towards the crowd when you heard the horn blow once again, there was a crowd of people surrounding an area, and you heard the commotion of
"The boy has returned!"
"It is the sully boy!"
You saw the sully boy come onto the platform in front of the Tsahìk & Olo'eyktan along with his father. His father moved him in positions to make sure he was ok.
He declared that he was alright, and only had a few minor injuries, his mother passed the crowd beside you and people made way for her,
She was angry from what you heard, you looked at ao'nung and his ears bent back, she started scolding him until the Olo'eyktan spoke.
"No, my son knows better than to take him outside the reef"
The Olo'eyktan put his hand on Ao'nungs neck shoving him down to kneel,
"The blame is his"
"Okay, let's go-"
Once you thought everything was settled down the boy spoke in objection,
"No, this is not Ao'nungs fault"
You looked back In surprise at his declaration,
"This was my idea, Ao'nung tried to talk me out of it. Really"
The parents of the boy rushed him to go while the Tsahìk & Olo'eyktan looked at each other, The crowd slowly dismantled while you stayed behind In hopes that you could talk to him.
"Is this true?"
"Ao'nung what were you thinking?"
You stayed out of sight as possible and waited for his lecture to be over, his parents dismissed him and he walked off. You followed behind him and once he was far enough from his parents you called out for him taking Ao'nungs arm, he turned to see who you were, and when he saw you his expression became dampened.
"Do you see what you have caused?"
He didn't answer, he only looked away from you. While sighing you grabbed his hands and tried to get him to look at you.
"Ao'nung, It is ok..but you must apologize!"
"Why? He started it!"
"That does not matter! He is staying with us so you must get along with him.."
He sighed and agreed to apologize tomorrow, you let him go blow off the steam he had built up and you hurried to Lo'ak. You however don't notice the shell that falls from your hair.
But Ao'nung does...
...
You spot him inside his tent but luckily his family members aren't there
"Sully boy!"
He perks up when you call his name,
"Oh..hey"
"Are you alright? I am so sorry for abandoning you.."
"No, It's not your fault.."
You sigh, not knowing what else to say, you hated pressuring people so you instead give him the piece of jewelry you had been working on.
"I made you this..as an apology gift..!" you say softly
He looked at it and took It gratefully putting It on, he smiled at you and you smiled back and managed to start a conversation with him.
"Yk'now, my dad came from a star, that one right there," he said pointing
"Really?" You asked fascinated
"Yeah!" he smiled
"That sounds so amazing and adventurous!"
"He used to be Toruk Makto, the rider of last shadow"
"I would love to hear about It!"
And with that Lo'ak told you half of everything he knew about his family history.
However, you didn't know there was a sad Ao'nung hiding beside the tent with the Teal promising shell that you had dropped...
----------------------------------------------
+BONUS; Original conversation
"Yk'now, my dad came from a star, that one right there," he said pointing
"Really?" You asked fascinated
"Yeah!" he smiled
"That sounds so amazing and adventurous!"
"He used to be Toruk Makto, the rider of last shadow"
"I would love to hear about It!"
"Yeah, but on one condition,"
"What is it?"
"You have to tell me about your family history too!"
"Deal!" you say laughing
____________________________________________________________
I actually liked how this turned out! Little tension between Ao'nung & Lo'ak! Notice how they are the only ones who have a ' In their names! Cool little detail.
This also was supposed to be the 2nd version of something and only supposed to be Ao'nung's mate but I decided to finish this version instead.
Hope you enjoyed! Bye Angels! 🕊🤍

Love At First Fight
Ngaytxoa - Sorry iknimaya - The rite of passage for young na’vi Sempul - Father Sa'nok - Mother txampay'eylan - Even though you are a warrior in the eyes of the clan. Ao'nung doesn't show you the same respect as he does you twin, Neteyam. You have an idea with how to gain his respect and finally get him to see you as the warrior you are.
“Kids, fall in.” Sempul calls. The five of us stand in a line, youngest to oldest, with our hands behind our backs. “I’ve been talking with Tonowari.”
“I swear I‘ve been staying out of trouble like you asked.” Lo’ak says.
“He’s right.” I chime in.
“You’re not in trouble.” Sempul sighs.
”Yet.” Kiri whispers causing the rest of us to giggle.
“As I was saying,” Sempul continues. “Tonowari and I agree that it would be beneficial if the twins and Lo’ak trained his kids
“But they are already warriors.” Neteyam chimes in. “What could we teach them?”
“The war tactics I’ve taught you both. Remember they don’t know what it’s like to go to war against the sky people.” Sempul answers.
“So I get to beat up Ao’nung without getting in trouble?” I smile while cracking my knuckles. “Sounds good to me.”
“Actually things have already been arranged. “ Sempul tells us.
“Kiri, Tuk, and I will train in healing with Ronal. Y/N you will train Tsireya.” sa’nok explains. “The boys will train Roxto and Ao’nung. Your father will meet with Tonowari to think of ways to protect the reefs from the tawtute.”
“But I want to learn to fight.” Tuk whines. “I want to be a mighty warrior like the twins.”
“I know babygirl,” Sempul says, kneeling to her height. “But you’re too young to fight and we need as many healers as we can get.”
“If you’re up for it I can teach you something after training.” I smiled at her.
“See now you can hangout with all your favorite women.” Sa’nok tells her.
“Now that everything is settled,” Sempul announces. “Let’s eat!”
“Great,” Lo’ak says patting his stomach, “I’m hungry.”
“Sempul, do they know that we start training at 5 in the morning?” I ask sitting between Neteyam and Kiri.
“Yes, so don’t be late.” he answers.
________________________________________________________
“Lo’ak.” I whiper. “Lo’ak wake up.”
“Five more minutes.” he mumbles and turns over.
“We have to go.” Neteyam tells him. When he still doesn’t move Neteyam throws him over his shoulder. “Alright let’s go.”
When we arrive at the clan leader’s mauri all three teens are standing in front. I smile and hold my hands up to Roxto and Tsireya.
“Good morning txampay’eylan.” I beam.
“Good morning.” Tsireya smiles, putting her hand against mine.
“Hello.” Roxto yawns, putting his hand up to my other one.
“No good morning for me?” Ao’nung pouts.
“Hey skxawng.” I say without a smile.
“Be nice.” Neteyam tells me as he puts Lo’ak down. “You all have passed the first test. Waking up on time.”
“Same can’t be said for Lo’ak.” Tsireya giggles.
“She’s right.” I laugh poking Lo’ak. “You look like you’re going to fall over.
“Whatever.” he says stretching. “I’ll wake up after our run.”
“I don’t understand what we could possibly learn from you.” Ao’nung growls. “This will be a waste of my time.”
“Do I need to remind you that my brothers and I kicked you and your friends asses.” I growl getting in Ao’nung’s face. “You even had an extra person and still lost.”
“You want to go a round?” Ao’nung challenges. “One on one.”
“Y/N, you know what dad said,” Neteyam says in a warning tone, “We need to teach not to fight for no reason.”
“I can teach him by messing up that pretty face.” I hiss.
“So you think I’m pretty?” he smirks.
Before I can do anything Neteyam pulls me away. He’s always been able to keep my head clear.
“You’re lucky.” I hissed, going back to my twin’s side. “What’s the plan Neteyam?”
“There’s a small forest we can run through. I'm thinking about running for half and hour.” he starts. “Then we can swim for the other half. We can get practice in the water and they can get endurance in.”
“We already know how to run and swim.” Ao’nung comments.
“Ao’nung.” Tsireya scolds. “Listen.”
“After that Ao’nung, Roxto, Lo’ak and I will spar while you teach Tsireya the basics.” he finishes. “Sound like a plan?”
“Let’s get to it.” I beam. “Last one to the tiny forest is a rotten egg.”
As I dash off I can hear my brothers trying to explain the meaning. It feels so good to run around in this small forest. It might not be home but it’s wonderful. The sand is turning to mud and there’s even a few trees to swing from.
“Look at her go.” Tsireya smiles.
“Woo hooo.” I holler as I swing from another tree. “Keep up slow pokes.”
It feels like it went too fast. Neteyam was yelling for me to say it’s time for a swim. The ocean is beautiful but not as much as the forest.
“Watch this.” Tsireya signs.
She swims behind a fish and taps it. The startled creature puffs up 3 times its size. I couldn’t hold in a laugh and had to swim to the surface. The others join me.
“Are you okay?” Lo’ak asks.
“Yes.” I nod. “Hey let’s race.”
“You’re on.” Lo’ak laughs diving in.
“Come on everyone.” I smile then follow after Lo’ak.
Soon we’re done swimming and go to dry off on the beach. The boys leave me and Tsireya to spar.
“Alright, I’m sure you know the basics so we’ll start with defense.” I told her. “How does that sound?”
“You’re the teacher.” she replies.
Once we’re dry we stand in a defensive position.
“Okay, I’m going to tackle you and start punching.” I told her. “Your goal is to get me off. Got it?”
“Yes.” she answers.
I run at full speed and tackle her. Instantly she puts her arms over her face as I start gently punching her. I want her to be able to fight but that doesn’t mean I want to hurt her. She tries to flip me off but I clamp my thighs around her stomach.
“Don’t be afraid to take a punch if it means you can get the upper hand.” I tell her. “This isn;t about being nice it’s about surving.”
Tsireya moves over her arms and grabs my wrist. She bites me and while I’m distracted rolls over so I’m in the sand. Then she’s punching on me.
“Haha forest freak bit it.” I hear Ao’nung laugh.
I yank Tsireya’s tail and throw her off of me. I made a beeline for Ao’nung. He’s been testing me all day. But before I can reach him a force knocks me into the sand. I look up and find Neteyam above me.
”Get off of me.” I growl. “He’s been testing me all day.”
“No, I won’t let you get us in any more trouble.” he tells me. “Mawey or I won’t let you go.”
“This is stupid.” I huff. “I’m calm.”
“I think that’s enough training for today.” Neteyam announces as he gets off of me.
“Ngaytxoa for throwing you in the sand.” I say kneeling in front of Tsireya.
“It’s okay.” she smiles, lifting me up by my arm. “Come. We can go finish our new tops.”
___________________________________________________________
“So how was training?” father asks.
“I want to fight Ao’nung.” I announce.
“What have I told -”
“A fair fight. I will ask permission from his parents.” I interrupt. “He knows I am a warrior but he doubts my abilities.”
There’s a pause as my parents look at each other. They have a silent conversation before nodding at each other.
“Alright, come on everyone.” Father sighs. “If you’re going to do this, we do it now and leave it behind. Understand?”
“Yes sir.” I say trying to hold back a smile.
My father leads the family to the olo’eyktan and his family.
“What is it Jake Sully?” he asks humorously “It seems like you can never stay away.”
“My daughter wishes to ask something of you.” he says, stepping aside so I can come forward.
“Oel ngati kameie, Olo’eyktan Tonowari. Oel ngati kameie, Tsahìk Ronal.” I say bringing my fingers to my forehead. “I wish to ask your permission to fight your son, Ao’nung.”
“What is the meaning of this?” Ronal questions. “Your family seeks uturu and you ask this of us.”
“Back in the Omatikaya clan I completed my iknimaya and became a warrior. I have become a skilled fighter and warrior like my parents. My father has trained me for years so that I can be the next Toruk Makto.” I answered kneeling in front of the clan leaders. “I do not mean this out of disrespect. I want to show Ao’nung that I am a great warrior. I also would like to show my strength to you both. I will follow any rules that are put in place for the fight should you approve.”
“She wants to fight you.” I hear Tonowari say. He must be talking to his son. “What is your response.”
“I accept.” he answers.
“Stand Sully child.” Ronal says. I stand and look at them both. “Go home and prepare. You both will spar in three hours.”
“Thank you.” I say looking at the clan leaders then turn to Ao’nung. “I look forward to our fight.”
Our parents go back to the mauri while my siblings and I on the edge of the doc. They want to give me a pep talk and some advice.
“Remember to keep a level head.” Neteyam says, placing his hand atop my head. “You are a great fighter but you tend to forget tactics when you're angry.”
“I will bother.” I smile, putting my hand on his. “I hope I will make you all proud.”
“You’re going to be amazing.” Tuk smiles.
“Make sure to use the surroundings like dad taught us.” Kiri says worriedly. “And make sure to keep guard of your important organs.”
“You worry too much sis.” Lo’ak beams while playfully nudging her. “Y/N is definitely going to kick his ass.”
——————————————————————————————————
A decent sized group has formed to watch our fight. I guess when the chef’s son is being challenged to a fight is major news. We face our father’s so they can tell us the rules.
“Toruk Makto and I have discussed what you both know about battle and have come up with only one rule.” the chef starts.
“No weapons allowed.” dad announces.
“What about breaking bones?” Ao’nung asks.
“Scared?” I smirk.
“I just want to know how much I need to hold back,” he responds.
“Give it all you got.” Tonowari tells us. “You are both strong fighters. Strong and determined. No need to hold back.”
“To make sure you follow the only rule you will give us your weapons.” father says.
We give our knives to our fathers then face each other. I sign that I see you to him but he doesn’t do the same. He’s getting under my skin by the clear show of disrespect. I must remember what Neteyam told me. Keep a level head. I take a deep breath and get into a fighting stance, Ao’nung does the same.
“Begin!” Tonowari yells.
Immediately, Ao’nung comes charging at me. I move out of the way and kick his back so he falls in the sand. I jump on his back and bite between his shoulder and neck. He grunts in pain and manages to shake me off. Then he’s on top of me punching me in the face. I try to wiggle out of his hold but he’s not letting up. I can feel my nose starting to bleed. I have to get him off me.
‘Make sure to use the surroundings like dad taught us.’ I remember Kiri telling me.
I pick up a fist full of sand and throw it in his face. While he’s coughing I flip us over one more. I shove another fistfull of sand in his face, grab both of his hands in mine, then start punching his face.
“Give up.” I pant as my fist crunches against his nose.
“N-no.” he breathes and tries kicking me off.
I elbow him in the stomach, knocking the wing out of him then stand up. As I raise my foot to stomp down on him he holds up his hands.
“Stop.” he gasps. “I give up.”
I hear mixed reactions. I hear my family celebrating my victory along with some approval of the other warriors. Tonowari looks shocked but gives a nod in approval while Ronal looks horrified as well as Tsireya. I look at Kiri and she nods to Ao’nung. She is signaling for me to help him. So I hold out my hand.
“I said you win.” he grunts trying to get up.
“Let me patch you up.” I offer. “You are hurt and I can ahelp.”
“Why?” he questions. “Is winning not enough. You must embarrass me by caring for me?”
“My sister and grandmother have taught me how to be gentle and helpful.” I say slinging his arm around my shoulder. I look at Ronal and bow my head. “If you will allow it I will patch up Ao’nung.”
“You are a strange child.” is all she told me.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’m sorry.” Ao’nung says to me. “I didn’t realize how skilled you were.”
“Everyone can learn something. Even my baby sister, Tuk, teaches me the wonder of life everyday.” I responded. “You just have to be willing to learn and listen.”
“Y/N.” Ao’nung says, taking my hand and looking me in the eyes.. “Oel ngati kameie.”

let it happen.
includes: gender neutral reader. older sibling reader. angst. listen to the song while reading this i promise it’s a great experience. ♡
as the oldest sibling it’s never easy. of course you would know. you are the oldest sibling. you were excited when your brothers came along, then kiri then tuk. after a while it just got repetitive.
why did you do this?. why weren’t you watching them?.
why why why why
constantly overshadowed and talking the fall for your siblings. constantly thrown to the side. essentially forgotten.
and all you had to answer for yourself was; “i’m sorry sir. it won’t happen again”. you lost your spark. your shine. what made you, you.
i bet you love them more though.
when neteyam did something, their eyes lightened in wonder. when kiri did something they gave her praise.
but you? it was a ghost town.
“oh good job”
“not as good as [redacted] but it’s good”
you stopped trying after a while. you stayed silent during dinner. getting up early to avoid them.
you didn’t blame your siblings. you still loved them. but god how you envied them.
you envied the praise. the love. the affection. the desire.
your world was moving fast and you couldn’t even process it, you were just a child.
it wasn’t your fault
you were forced to grow up. you couldn’t even remember the last time you addressed your father as such.
“sir” felt like venom on your tongue.
you even remembered when you almost died trying to save your siblings once.
not even one fucking thank you.
you were the forgotten sully. you weren’t as important as everyone else.
tuks babysitter. neteyams big sibling. and so on.
you gotten used to it. your dad giving half glances to you. your mom giving you short words.
it’s like you weren’t there.
like you were a foreign object.
a freak of nature.
like you didn’t belong
everytime you would bring it up to someone they would tell you the same thing over and over till it was seemingly engraved into your mind;

Platonic Yandere Metkayina Family X Human Child Reader Part 3
~Hey! I know this took me a while to do, but now that a new semester is started I actually have motivation to write consistently. So, I should be posting a bit more frequently now! Anyway, on a side note, I'm not sure if it was obvious, but Ronal isn't pregnant in this story. Mostly because I think it would be too challenging to write an infant into this storyline.
Masterlist
Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3
CW: yandere behavior (platonic), protective behavior, near drowning, fall risk
~
-It had taken you about two more days to feel almost completely better. But your family was still babying you… a lot.
-And you were getting VERY frustrated with it.
-Sure, you liked all of the attention. However, you wanted to move around on your own now that you were feeling better, not be in a wrap!
It was just after breakfast, and your mom was trying to put you in the wrap to take you with her. And you were not having it. You were groaning and sinking to the floor to delay going into the wrap.
Ronal was kneeling on the ground in front of you, trying to get you into the wrap so she could take you with her, and was bewildered by how you were acting. She had never seen you act like this, granted she hadn’t known you very long either. But that wasn’t the point! The point was she didn’t know why you were so upset about the wrap, when you’ve never complained about it before.
-She tried one more time to pick you up and put you in the wrap. And you just dropped straight onto the floor and started crying. Loudly.
-Ronal just frowned and sat down fully in front of you, picking you up into her arms and rubbing your back to try to calm you down.
-You had thrown your head back already by the time she asked you what was wrong.
-You just gasped before spitting out that you didn’t wanna be in the wrap anymore since you felt better.
-As soon as Ronal heard this, the meltdown made sense. She untied the wrap from herself before fully picking you up to take you with her. Luckily, you were calming down by then and wrapped your arms around her neck.
-She turned to look at the rest of her family, who she had forgotten were there to witness that, and gave them a reassuring look before making her way to her healing tent. In the end, she wasn’t surprised that a small child would want to move around a lot more after recovering from an illness.
As she was walking, she looked down at you to see you fast asleep, and she just kissed your head while continuing on her way. She also felt your feet swinging against her sides, making her smile, but only a little bit.
It didn’t take her long to make it there, and set you down on what might as well be your personal cushion at that point. And she set down her human medicine bag and got out the thermometer, putting it in your mouth without disturbing you. And when she took it out, she was pleased and relieved to see it say 98, the correct temperature for you. She smiled and calmly sat by you and mixed together more balms and salves.
At one point a new mother of the clan came in to talk, and asked to set her baby on the cushion next to you, which Ronal allowed. And it was adorable to see an infant that was about half your size next to you. The woman commented on you not looking so bad anymore, and that she had heard you were sick and was glad you looked like you felt better.
-Ronal smiled and said that you definitely felt better, if the fit you threw to escape the wrap this morning had anything to say about it. She laughed with the other woman, who said her baby had done the same thing this morning as well.
-Although it wasn’t long until the infant woke up and started crying, waking you up as well. You were confused, but quickly woke up, and picked them up with you as you sat up. You rocked the both of you until the baby had calmed down.
-You looked to the side once they stopped crying to see your mother and another woman looking at you and the baby. They each had a very soft look on their face, which you figured was because of you calming down the baby.
-You looked back down at the baby again to see them staring up at you, then they reached up and put their hand on your face. You smiled at them before their mother took them from you and into her arms. Your mother doing the same with you.
-You looked up at her to see her smiling down at you, and you smiled back. Then, she got a weird, far off, look on her face. You just scrunched your nose at her and looked over as the mother and her baby were leaving.
-She was only loosely cradling you in her lap, so you rolled onto the ground in front of your mother and made your way over to grab your craft basket. Then you went and sat on your favorite cushion, which was next to where your mother did her healing duties daily.
Ronal had finally seemed to come out of her daze as you started weaving some shells into an anklet for yourself. She made her way over to her station and gathered the things she needed to make more of most of her healing pastes and salves, then sat down right next to your cushion. And the both of you worked on your separate activities for the better part of two hours.
By the time she looked at what you were doing, you were finishing up a second anklet for yourself. And once you truly finished it, you looked over at Ronal and asked her if she could put both of them on you. She, of course, said yes. Then gently grabbed your legs and tied each anklet securely, but not too tight, around each of your ankles. Once she was done, you got up and walked around in the hut, smiling at the shells clinking together as you walked.
-Ronal was watching you enjoy yourself with a small smile on her face, happy that you can create accessories that you enjoy.
-Though her thoughts were interrupted by Neytiri walking through the entrance of the hut. Ready to get more lessons of the metkayina way of life from Ronal.
-Neytiri had seen you, now, skipping around the hut. In your own little world. And she just lightly scowled at you. She knew you were a sweet little kid, but her opinion of humans in general dampened her reactions to you.
-She just quietly made her way over to Ronal and sat down to help her finish making the pastes and salves. Keeping a distrustful eye on you the entire time.
-The novelty eventually wore off for you and you went back over to your mother and plopped down in her lap. Looking over at the darker woman with curious eyes. Though you quickly looked away from the, almost, nasty look she gave you.
-You just settled against your mother and looked around the hut, and before you knew it, you were being carried out of the hut and slightly into the water before being set down.
-You knew she was going to be teaching the forest woman their way of life, and that included the breathing techniques they had already taught you.
You were gently set into the water next to your mother and started slowly swimming around the two women. Both women keeping watch over you. Your mother to make sure you were safe, and Neytiri because she didn’t trust you. And you were ignoring it to actually swim around like you wanted to.
Ronal had been teaching the breathing technique to Neytiri for a couple days at that point, and she had done well and just needed to push herself to stay under for longer. So, as soon as you dove under the surface of the water, Ronal had done the same with Neytiri.
She had been guiding her through the reefs under the water while also making sure she could still see you. They had been swimming and communicating in simple sign for about five minutes before she saw you swimming towards the surface to get some air. She made sure you made it there without issue and started diving back down again before she moved her attention back to the forest woman. Though instead of you going off on your own among the reef, you swam to her and wrapped your arms around her neck. She just turned and kissed your cheek before continuing to guide Neytiri around the reefs.
She just continued swimming while gently dragging you with her while trying to teach Neytiri. Though as soon as they had made it to a spot with a large amount of glowing coral, your favorite area to swim around in, you had let go of her and swam to gently touch the coral. Which glowed brighter at your touch, which is why it was your favorite.
-You had been entertaining yourself with the coral while your mother and the woman from the forest continued swimming around you.
-Though when you turned your back towards the coral to sign to your mother that you were going to swim to the surface, Neytiri was right in front of you swimming to the surface as well and accidentally pushed you into the coral behind you by your chest.
-You had the breath knocked out of you, and that made you inhale some water. Your chest hurt and you started panicking.
-You looked around for your mother and desperately gestured her to bring you to the surface. She noticed your panic right away and quickly grabbed you and rushed to the surface. Though you were just focusing on not giving in to the urge to cough.
-As soon as your head was above the water you began violently coughing up water. You had your head hanging over your mother’s shoulder as you coughed, your chest rattling from the force of them.
-You were clinging to your mother’s shoulders, and she was gently patting your back to help you get all the water out of your lungs. It had taken you about seven full minutes of coughing and gasping for breath before you winded down and slumped against your mom.
-You two had bolted to the surface, and a couple minutes into your coughing fit, Neytiri had surfaced. And her attention was immediately captured by your distress. Her ears perked and her pupils dilated. She may not like humans, but she was concerned for you. Especially as a mother herself.
-Though as soon as you completely stopped coughing, Ronal turned to Neytiri and let loose some scathing words for her about accidentally shoving you under the water. Though she did notice the darker woman’s ears droop down while being scolded.
-Once she was done talking and had calmed down, Neytiri came a bit closer to apologize and check if you were okay. You just glanced at her and nodded before drifting off to sleep in your mother’s arms.
-And after that, their session of lessons ended for that day. Both of the women made their way to the shore and went their separate ways for the day.
-Neytiri was sulking while making her way back to their marui, and Ronal was power walking to her own marui.
Once she got to her marui, she walked in and briefly set you in their sleeping space before tying the wrap on her and put you in it on her front, facing her. She began rubbing your back while walking around her home and gathering things to make a snack for you to eat once you woke up. Though as she was finishing putting the snack together for you, her older child Tsireya had walked into the marui.
She seemed to be confused about what her mother was doing in their marui at this time of day, and came closer to see her making some food with you actually in the wrap. She came up to her mother and put her hand on your back, concerned because of some rumbling happening in your chest as you breathed. She looked up at her mother’s face and got a look that said she’d get an explanation later.
Though it didn’t take you very long to wake up again, and immediately start coughing again. You didn’t even register the two women in your family fussing over you while you were in your small coughing fit. You were more focused on the small dribbles of water coming out of your mouth after being forced from your lungs. You stopped after only about two minutes, and pushed your cheek against the side of your mothers arm, verging on her shoulder. So, that must mean you were put in the wrap while you slept. You could only stare at the water, combined with spit, running down your mother’s arm. You then mumbled a ‘sorry’ as you laid against your mom's body.
-Ronal just shook her head and started rubbing your back again. Before taking the snack and walking over to sit down and start feeding you the food.
-She looked down at the water dripping down her arm, concerned about how much water is still in your lungs considering how much you coughed up so far.
-Meanwhile, Tsireya only had an idea of what had happened to you, but was very concerned nonetheless. Still lightly patting your back.
Both of them had sat down on the floor and took turns feeding you small bites of the cut up fruit Ronal got for you. You chewed them slowly, until they were all gone. And by the end you felt a lot better. You had started squirming a bit to get taken out of the wrap, which you were glad your mother didn’t hesitate to do that time. Though you still chose to sit in her lap and continue cuddling up to her.
Meanwhile Neytiri had made it to her family’s marui and had curled up on the ground and started sulkingly weaving a new top for her oldest daughter. And while she was doing that her mate had come in and sat down next to her after noticing her sullen mood. He waited a few moments waiting for her to talk, but sighed and asked what was wrong. Neytiri just heavily sighed and buried her head in her knees before saying that she had accidentally hurt the little human child earlier that day. Jake’s ears folded down a little bit and he asked how she had done that. So, she told him about the diving she had done that day, and how she had accidentally shoved the child into a wall of coral under the water. And how hard you had been coughing up water, and how Ronal had chewed her out for it.
Jake just winced as he saw his wife’s tail curl even more into her body and her ears curl down harshly. He just put a hand on her shoulder and assures her that as long as it was an accident and she apologizes to you, she shouldn’t worry too much about this situation.
She glances up at Jake while still resting her face on her knees to see if he was joking or not, and found the look in his eyes to be sincere. She sighed again and leaned against his chest as she said she would apologize again before dinner that evening. Jake smiled and kissed her head before saying that that was a great idea and would probably mean a lot to you.
-Meanwhile, you were getting coddled for the rest of the day, especially after your mom told your sister what had happened during the dive that day.
-And then they roped your dad and brother into it too.
-So now you were being babied like you were sick again. And it annoyed you so much.
-During the lunch your family had, you were sat on your brother’s lap and your sister insisted on feeding you your food. You had huffed and tried to grab your plate from her but quickly gave up.
-And after that your dad had picked you up and carried you with him while he went to teach Jake Sully. Who you waved at once you saw him. And he waved right back at you.
-You guys would just be wading in the shallow waters while Jake was learning more of the sign language from your dad. You weren’t really paying attention as you swam around both of their legs, deciding to cling to one of Jake’s legs after circling him a couple times.
-He just chuckled and lifted you above his head from under your armpits, and briefly threw you in the air above him, easily catching you as well.
-You gasped when he threw you, but quickly broke down in giggles when he caught you. You had never had someone do that to you, but you loved it. You immediately asked him to do it again, and maybe higher.
-He just kept smiling and prepared to throw you into the air again. But prepared to throw you higher by lowering you to his chest level in front of him before launching you up in the air. You laughed the whole way up, which was pretty high because of how light you were to him, and starfished out in the air while you were falling. Easily being caught again.
-But this time he brought you to his chest to hold you properly. He leaned closer to you and brought a hand up to whisper that Neytiri felt bad and was gonna apologize to you again later in the day. And you just smiled at him and copied his hand motion to whisper back that you already forgave her, because it was obviously an accident.
-He smiled at you again before noticing the mildly panicked and angry look on Tonowari’s face. He turned you around to face him and motioned like he was going to throw you.
-Tonowari rapidly got the hint and put his arms out in front of him to catch you. And this time Jake threw you in a big arc to your dad. You were laughing and clinging to his arms when he caught you. And he just had a relieved smile while turning to Jake and asking how he knew you would like that.
-Jake laughed and said most human children loved it. And that all of his children had loved it when they were small enough for it.
-Tonowari was curious and looked down at you sitting in the crook of one of his arms, and you were still smiling. But once you noticed that he was looking at you, you excitedly asked if he could throw you just as high. Maybe even higher.
-He nervously smiled before saying that he probably could, and gently brought you in front of him. Though he looked over at Jake and motioned him over to his side with his head. And he wanted to ask him how to do what he did.
-Jake said he could do some tiny tosses to get used to the motions before doing bigger throws. He then looked at you and said, “You wouldn’t mind that, right Y/N?” To which you vigorously nodded.
Tonowari sighed before lifting you up above his head and lightly tossing you up in the air a couple times to get the hang of it. He got more confident each time because of your delighted giggles. You caught your breath as he lowered you to be in front of him so he could throw you higher. And he did that a couple times as well, you being launched at least 10 feet up each time.
And it wasn’t long before he was very comfortable with the activity and prepared to throw you up as high as he felt comfortable with. You were being dangled at his thigh level before being absolutely launched into the air. You probably went almost 60 feet up since your dad put a lot of strength into it. You just heavily breathed with a huge smile and wide eyes while stalling in the air at the peak height.
Unfortunately, this is when your mother showed up at the shore beside the men. And she let out a panicked shriek when she saw you up so high in the air. Though she was left to stand there watching in horror as you started plummeting, in her point of view, towards the two men just standing there. She started rushing to be in range to catch you as she heard you laughing while falling, though she didn’t register it. She was a step away when you landed safely in her mate’s arms, though she collided with his side as you devolved into hysterical giggles. She also ended up knocking the four of you over into the water, though she had snatched you out of your dad’s arms and held you up above the water so you couldn’t accidentally inhale it again.
As soon as she sat up in the water she was checking you over for any injuries. Though you just continued laughing and hugged her neck as you told her about your new favorite activity. She barely noticed the two men sputtering as they also sat up in the water and looked over at the woman who was clutching you for dear life.
-She turned to the two of them and asked them why they had thought that was a good idea.
-Tonowari quickly defended himself by saying he wouldn’t have done it if he didn’t think he could catch you. And he pointed out that you loved it. Though he said that if he threw you that high in the future, and he will, that he would do it in an area with deep water that would break your fall and prevent you from getting hurt.
-She just blew air out of her nose before turning a sharp look to Jake.
-He put his hands up in front of him and said that he knew most human children loved that, and that his children had loved that as well. Plus, he taught Tonowari how to do it properly to make sure you were safe.
-She ended up shaking her head before saying that if you ever got hurt from them doing that, she would beat them.
-Both men winced and said they would with drooped ears and tucked tails. She was very intimidating, even with you perched at her ribcage.
-And with that, she said that it was time to prepare dinner, so they needed to come out of the water anyway. She had originally come to get them.
-They just watched her walk away with you before making eye contact and wincing again. And they just started silently walking to the shore.
-Though Ronal didn’t have a chance to calm down before Neytiri came up to her and asked to speak with you. She was about to hiss at the woman before you said okay and wiggled to be let down. Ronal just scowled before gently setting you down.
-You walked to be in front of the woman, and she kneeled down to be somewhat close to your height.
-She then briefly looked at Ronal before looking you in your eyes and very sincerely apologizing to you. Saying how it was an accident and she would never, ever want to hurt you. Plus, she was sorry for being distrustful of you, she was just wary of all humans at first.
-You blinked up at her before slowly hugging her around her neck. You then told her that you forgive her and that it was fine that she didn’t trust you at first, because you knew most humans on this planet were terrible.
-She was shocked that you hugged her, but she slowly wrapped her arms around you as well. And said thank you once you were done speaking.
-She gave you a last squeeze when she saw the impatient look the other woman was giving her. And watched you skip back over to Ronal and make grabby hands to be picked up.
-This time she parted ways with you two with a small smile. Making her way to her own children.
-You were resting your head on your mom’s shoulder while she was making her way to where her older children were waiting for her and her husband.
-Though she had to tell them that he would be a bit behind them as they were doing something reckless with you.
-Both of them were concerned hearing that and asked what their dad was doing with you that was so dangerous.
-Ronal just sighed and set you down before walking closer to her older children and telling them what she had seen. You, very high up in the air after being thrown by Tonowari. Ao’nung and Tsireya just gasped and made eye contact with each other.
-Though their attention was grabbed by their dad joining them, and you running up to him and asking to be tossed.
Tonowari saw the looks the rest of his family was giving him, but chose to ignore them. He lifted you up and held you up above him and tossed you a little bit up in the air a couple times in a row, almost bouncing you in the air. And you were just giggling before asking him to toss you higher. And he smiled before lowering you a little bit to give you some more air time, securely catching you each time. Though he set you down once he caught the sharp look his wife was giving him.
Though his other children were looking at the activity almost in wonder. They would never say it out loud, but it looked fun. They were almost jealous, but seeing you having fun was enough for them. Their attention was, once again, captured by the Sully family coming up and joining them. The other kids sat down around you and your siblings, who also just noticed that you sat down in front of them. And the adults went to help finish the dinner and bring it back to their children.
Though you took the opportunity to go up to Neteyam and reach up and ask if he can toss you. Neteyam just looked down at you before making eye contact with your siblings. They just shrugged, but you got frustrated and started slapping at his legs. He smiled and rolled his eyes before putting his hands under your arms and lightly throwing you as he stood up. You laughed as he easily caught you. But you grabbed his arms to ask how he knew how to do it right.
-Neteyam blinked down at you, before saying that his dad taught him when Tuk was born because he was trusted.
-Though your brother got pretty jealous and went over to tell him to teach him how to throw you.
-You got snatched into the arms of your brother and held out in front of him while he demanded Neteyam teach him how to do the throwing you thing properly.
-Though Ao’nung scowled when he was only told to throw you straight up, not in any other direction, and to practice the motion of catching you.
-So, he held you up how he had seen the other boy and his dad doing, and lightly tossed you into the air. Though he was thankful that you made it so easy to catch you each time, along with your joyful laughs.
-And he made the mistake of getting distracted when he had started tossing you up higher. He had seen the other forest boy, Lo’ak, sit down next to his sister Tsireya and briefly turned his head to scowl at him.
-Though in the time that his head was turned, you had started falling and were going down past his shoulders by the time he was paying attention again. Though as soon as he was catching you in a panic, you had almost hit the ground. And he had just managed to get a hold of you before your head hit the sand, and quickly brought you up to his chest to wait to see how you would react.
-But he breathed a sigh of relief that you didn’t start crying. You were just wide eyed, clutching him, and catching your breath. Though he insisted that no one told the adults, and got nods from everyone in return.
-And everyone breathed a sigh of relief once they were all situated somewhere and the adults came back with food for everyone.
-And you stayed on your brother’s lap as you were handed food, and were happily eating it on your own, with someone looking at you to check on you every once in a while.
-Though as you all were going to sleep that night, snuggled together, none of you could think that things would change how they did soon after that.
(To be continued)

Orphic (Pt. 4)
pairing; Ao'nung x Sully!reader Orphic; (adj.) mysterious and entrancing; beyond ordinary understanding words; 5,119 warnings; injury, mentions of death Pt. 1; Pt. 2; Pt. 3 Importan info; I'm dragging out the timeline of the movie so I have more tike to develop relationships before the angst arrives (also gives me time to decide what will happen during the tragic scene we all unfortunately know too well) This was supposed to be a shorter chapter to kinda fill in so this story is longer (I'm going through the movie much quicker than I exxpected), but it ended up being the longest chapter so far :] isn't that funny? It's okay this chapter has been my absolute favorite to write and I hope you love it. Enjoy the fluff while it lasts >:) I should be waiting to post this, but I couldn't care less. Also, why do we lack Ao'nung GIFs people?
The morning sky is dark, the stars of the universe still littering the sky with their dim glows, just barely peeking through the cracks in the clouds. The air is thick and chilly, the looming threat of rain hanging over the beach. The waves crash strongly against the shore, a large contrast from the gentle back and forth it often is.
Turning in her sleep, the eldest Sully daughter sighs deeply, her body fully relaxed. The girl is immersed in her dream, too unconscious to even be embarrassed at the soft touches of his, the way his lips feel against her, the way his body moves against hers- she flinches awake, squinting open her eyes. There’s a soft tapping outside of her marui, and she can just barely see bright teal feet shuffling against the floor beneath the flap.
“Treehugger, wake up-” The voice is quiet, but urgent. “Come on, Y/n, gotta show you something.”
A yawn rips through her body, and she stretches her arms out. She sighs softly and slowly moves to her feet, her body waking up. She carefully undos the tie on the marui flap, and Ao’nung stands there, a sheepish look on his face. She looks him up and down, her tired mind causing her cheeks to blush a deep blue. She can’t help but feel thankful for the darkness surrounding them.
“Ao’nung?” Her voice comes out softer than she meant, thick with sleep. It didn’t cross her mind that the dark wouldn’t only hide her blush.
He hesitates for a moment, looking her over with the corner of his lips tugged up, “Good morning, paskalin.”
She rubs her eyes, not registering the term of endearment, “What do you need? It’s too early.” She groans softly, sighing deeply.
“I want to show you something. But we’ll need to leave right now.” He explains gently, an odd look on his face. If Y/n was lucid, she may recognize it as a look her father often gives her mother.
She stares at him for a moment, disbelieving and slightly offended he’d interrupt her slumber, but she nods, glancing behind her at her sleeping family. She instructs Ao’nung to wait a second, and he obliges. She drops the flap, and carefully steps around her siblings to her mother. She knows the woman is awake, she’s a light sleeper and likely awoke before Y/n did.
Y/n bends and kisses her mom’s cheek softly, “I’ll be safe, mama.” The woman nods once, a soft smile on her cheeks. Her eyes never open, and she never responds, but Y/n didn’t need her to, to know it was okay to go.
She weaves through the sleeping bodies of her family once again, and slides out of the marui. She smiles smally at Ao’nung, with an unfamiliar feeling of shyness after the dream he was present in. There’s a soft rumble of lightning in the distance, and Ao’nung takes Y/n’s hand gently. A shiver runs up her arm and down her body, she curls her toes, watching him with curiosity.
“Do you trust me?” His words are almost lost to the wind.
Y/n tilts her head to the side, and the first few droplets of water drop onto her skin, “Should I?”
His gaze narrows for a split second, “You’ll want to.”
She inhales deeply and nods, “I trust you, Ao’nung.” The cold nips at her skin, and she subconsciously steps closer to his warmth.
His lips tug into a smile, and his eyes sparkle as he squeezes her hand. “Come on.” He pulls her to the edge of the platform, and calls for his ilu, aware of his voice level so he doesn't wake anyone.
His ilu loyally swims to Ao'nung's aide, chirping happily. Ao'nung grins, slowly lowering himself into the water. He pets his ilu gently, smiling. Y/n watches him with a weird look in her eyes, and if one of her brothers were awake she'd be teased endlessly. Ao'nung looks to her with a smile, holding his hand out.
“You gonna join me one day? Or just stand there and gawk at my undeniable beauty?” He teases, grinning.
Y/n shakes her head with a small laugh, “I'm not gawking at you.” She sits, her feet in the water, and takes his hand.
He pulls her in, holding her close to him, “I think you were.” He insists in a low tone.
At this point, the rain has begun to pour around them, and it soaks Y/n's skin. She swallows thickly as she watches Ao'nung, this proximity made her nervous. Her heart felt like it was beating out of her chest, and she hated it. She hated what he did to her. She hated that he had this power over her, and she can't get it back no matter what she does. His body is warm against hers, and she holds onto his shoulder tightly, her fingers digging into his skin.
“You in there?” He asks gently, his smug grin softening into a genuine smile. Y/n inhales deeply as his fingertips meet the skin of her face, gently wiping away a slick piece of hair from her cheeks.
She nods, swallowing thickly. Her breath comes in short, uneven gasps. “I’m here, fishlips.” She says breathily, her gaze trailing down to his lips for a split second. The two are broken out of their trance by the ilu clicking curiously at them.
Ao'nung clears his throat, retracting his hand. He pulls Y/n onto his ilu, reaching behind him to put a steadying hand on her thigh. She hesitates, but wraps her arms around his waist tightly. She closes her eyes, the rain on her back a soothing pitter patter. She breathes deeply, trying to calm her heartbeat, but it seems impossible. Ao'nung's ilu moves forward, and she takes a deep breath as they submerge.
The Ocean whilst it's raining and dark is completely different compared to clear and bright skies. It's serene, and beautiful in a terrifying way. The only marine life swimming about were those unafraid of becoming prey. Only the predators are left to swim about before the day starts.
Unfortunately, it doesn't take long for Y/n to run out of air, and have to gently tap Ao'nung's abdomen. He understands the signal, and their heads emerge from the water. Y/n take large gulps of air, sighing deeply and trying to calm her racing heart once again. She shivers at the cold winds, the heavy rain nipping at her skin.
“Your heart.” He notices, glancing over his shoulder. “Are you alright?”
Y/n nods, inhaling and exhaling, “Yeah, you can go again.” She takes a deep breath and they're back under.
The ilu swims on for a few more minutes, and the beginning of a sunrise pokes through the thick clouds. Eventually, they make it to a large rock, reminding her of a cliffside due to the height, and Ao'nung let's his ilu swim off. He helps Y/n onto the base of the rock and glances at her.
“Do you think you can climb to the top?” He asks, a hint of smugness in his tone.
Y/n raises a brow, “Really? Did you just ask me, of all people, if I could climb?”
Ao'nung pauses for a moment, before shrugging. “I believe I just did.” And he begins to climb.
Y/n laughs quietly behind him, giving him a second to get ahead, before swiftly climbing up. She surpasses him quickly, her tail whacking him gently in the face. He gapes up at her in shock. Obviously, he knew she could climb, but this quickly and in the rain? She makes it to the top with ease, and peers over the edge at him.
“Doin’ alright down there, sweetheart?” She grins at him as he glares, making his way up. “Careful, that rock is slippery.” She warns as he's an arms length away.
Ao'nung, the stubborn man he is, ignored her warning and grips onto the rock anyway. To his dismay, his hand slips, the jagged end of the rock slicing his palm open. He yelps in pain, losing his balance as his heavy tail swings side to side. His foot slips, and he panics, shutting his eyes tightly.
“Ao'nung!” Y/n reacts in a split second, reaching down towards him and grabbing ahold of his arm tightly before it can fall. His weight pulls her along the edge, scratching her stomach. She grunts, hooking her foot on a protruding rock and pulling upwards with all her strength. Without the ability to wipe the rain from her eyes, her eyes blur (she'll never admit it might have been from her own tears).
Ao'nung manages to catch footing, and help Y/n get him onto the top of the rock. Neither have time to breathe as they instinctually embrace each other tightly, shivering from the fear and cold. Y/n holds the back of Ao'nung's head against her, rocking slightly.
“I told you it was slippery, skxawng,” She scolds, just loud enough so he can hear over the dwindling rain. He holds onto her tightly, trying to calm his breathing.
“I know,” He whispers back, his voice breathless. He nods a little, swallowing thickly as he repeats himself. “I know.”
She inhales deeply, and pulls away from him, moving his face side to side to check for injuries. She scans over his body quickly, frowning at the small scratches. She takes the back of his hand gently, and sighs softly at the gash. She tilts her head, small bits of rock stick out from the wound, and it's weeping blood slowly. She bites the inside of her cheek, glancing up at him.
“Does it hurt?” She questions, wiping the dirt from around his wound.
He hisses in pain, his fingers tensing, “Not at all.” He grits out.
She frowns, glancing at his face, then back to his hand. “We should go back…”
Ao’nung shakes his head, pulling his hand out of hers, “No. We came here to relax. Look.” He nods his head towards the sky, the clouds have begun to clear, the downpour ending as quickly as it began. Y/n focuses on the sky around her, and a small smile comes to her face. The sky is painted with beautiful pinks and orange, and the sun just barely peeks out over the horizon. The exhales slowly, taking the sight in fully.
“It’s beautiful.” She whispers, afraid to break the peaceful atmosphere. Her ears relaxed, no longer flattened against her head.
Ao’nung watches her, a soft look in his eyes, “Yeah, so beautiful.” He responds quietly, his stare never leaving her. Y/n turns her head and meets his gaze. Her breath hitches softly, and she can feel her heart once again speeding up.
“You weren’t even looking at the sky.” She has a weird inability to tear her eyes away from him, and she feels in sync with the boy.
“I know, I was looking at you.” He rests his hand on her leg, leaning forward ever so slightly. Almost as if there’s a magnetic pull between the two, Y/n follows suit, inching closer subconsciously.
She glances down at his lips again, her lashes fluttering, “You think I’m beautiful?”
He nods without hesitation, “I do.”
She lifts a brow, “You called me a freak.”
He bites the inside of his cheek, “I lied.”
She pauses for a moment, before retracting from him. “I don’t believe you.” She swallows down the lump in her throat as she looks back out to the sky.
He freezes in disbelief, “What?”
She shrugs lamely, “I don’t believe you.” She repeats.
Ao’nung frowns deeply, “How can I make you believe me? What can I do to make you feel as beautiful as you look to me?”
Y/n’s cheeks flush a deep indigo, and this time she doesn’t have the lack of sun to hide it from the boy next to her. “I don’t know.”
Ao’nung moves closer, and gently turns her head towards him. He glances down to her lips, then back to her eyes, silently asking her. “May I kiss you?” It comes out feather light, almost inaudible.
Y/n doesn’t hesitate when she nods, it’s almost as if she was possessed. Ao'nung doesn't hesitate to lean forward and connect their lips. It starts with a quick peck, his hand slowly rests atop her cheek, caressing softly. Y/n pushes her lips against his again, kissing him with more passion. She scoots closer, her hand on his thigh.
Eventually, the need for air outweighs the need for each other, and they have to pull away from each other. Ao'nung rests his forehead against hers, his eyes still closed as the two relish the moment. They take each other in, soft breathes fanning, lips just barely brushing together, their heartbeats in sync.
Ao'nung is the first to open his eyes, and he takes a moment to admire the girls beauty, “Y/n?” His voice is slightly hoarse.
She doesn't open her eyes, “Hm?”
“Do you trust me?” He repeats his question from earlier, the tone more daring this time around.
“I already said I did.” She responds simply, finally cracking open her eyes.
He gently bumps his nose against hers, before pulling away and lifting himself up. He tugs the girl up with his good hand, and leads her to the edge. The wind blows gently, and at this point only a few clouds are left in the morning sky.
“Jump with me.” He says seriously, looking over at her while holding tightly onto her hand.
She glances at him in disbelief, “You're kidding me.”
“I'm not.” He shakes his head, grinning at her. He feels like he's on top of the world. “Jump with me, Y/n.”
“We'll die. Do you want to die?”
“No, we won't die. Look, just stiffen your body once we get close to the water. Don't flail around in the air, okay?” He instructs, squeezing her hand.
She stares at him for a moment, before looking at the water below them. “Okay- okay okay okay.”
He grins, “Okay?”
“Yes- but we need to go now before I change my mind.” Her courage is fleeting, threatening to leave at any moment.
He laughs quietly, “Okay, okay. One the of three, and don't let go of my hand. One… Two…”
Y/n swallows thickly, “Three!” And she jumps, dragging the boy along with her. Thear screams fill the air, both of terror and joy. Y/n, being smart and actually listening to instructions so she doesn't die, stiffens her body before their hit the water, and she slides right in. The force of the water rip their hands apart, and Y/n's arm stings a little bit.
She swims her way up to the surface, and grins at Ao'nung once his head pops up as well. She swims to him, and wraps her arms around his neck, giggling joyfully.
“That was amazing!” She exclaims as the two bob in the water.
Ao’nung’s hands finger her hips in the water, and he grins at her, “I knew you’d like it.” He can’t stop smiling even if he tries.
“Can we do it again?”
He squeezes her hips, “Maybe later, we should get going soon. None of my family knows where I am… and I don’t think I can climb with my hand.”
She nods, her face sympathetic, “Right, yeah. Let’s go home.” He nods with a soft smile, before turning to call his ilu. “Wait- fishlips,” He glances back at her. She pulls his face closer and kisses him quickly. “Okay, that’s all.”
He grins like an idiot as he calls his ilu, his face a deep blue color. It takes a few moments, but his ilu swims up happily, chirping in excitement. Y/n pets the ilu’s head gently, before sliding onto its back and waiting patiently for Ao’nung. Ao’nung gets on in front of her, once again placing his hand on her thigh for support, and they take off.
The village quickly comes into view, and Y/n smiles. It’s been a few months since her and her family arrived at this point, and this place has quickly become her home. The forest will always have a special place in her heart, but slowly she finds herself dreading the day the war ends and they may have to go back. Here, in the ocean, she has found herself. She’s found friends she’d consider family and even a boy. She’s found Ao’nung. She doesn’t even want to imagine having to leave him and the world he’s shown her. She never wants to leave, and she’ll do whatever she can to stay.
Ao’nung brings her back to the platform in front of her marui, and she smiles at him, pecking his cheek, “You should go before someone comes out and berates you.” Either her father or brothers.
He grins at her, “Worth it for any more moments with you.”
She shakes her head, laughing softly as she gets off the ilu and pulls herself up onto the platform, “Go, fishlips.”
“Woah, wait up, treehugger, I think I deserve something for our journey this morning.” He looks up at her, expectantly tapping his lips.
She raises a brow, “You want me to sock you in the mouth?”
He waits in silence, “What?”
She just laughs and shoos him off, “Goodbye.” She stands and watches as he begrudgingly goes. She smiles to herself for a moment, before shaking her head and creeping into the marui. When she enters, she has four sets of eyes on her. Her family is sitting in a circle, eating breakfast. The Sully’s usually skip communal meals in the morning.
“Well, look who decided to show up.” Her father says, and she’s unsure if he’s angry at her or not.
Tuk looks up from her food, now noticing her sister, she jumps up with a grin. “Y/n!” She runs over to the girl and jumps into her arms. Y/n smiles and picks her little sister up with ease.
She walks to the circle and sits, grabbing Tuk’s food and handing it back to her. “Hello, family. How are we this morning?”
Neteyam studies her with slightly narrowed eyes, “Why do you look like that?”
Lo’ak snorts, shoving his face with food, “Why do you sound like that?” He asks with his mouth full. His mother pinches his arm.
“Don’t speak with your mouth full.” She scolds, and Lo’ak nods with a derpy grin.
“Guys, leave her alone, she’s in looooooove.” Kiri grins. She’s not usually one to tease her siblings like that, in fact she finds it rather childish, but she can’t help it when her sister makes it so easy.
Her dad raises his brows, “You’re in what?”
She scoffs, flicking Kiri’s arm, “I’m not in love, shut up.”
“In love with who?” Tuk asks with a large grin. She’s always loved love. It’s her favorite when her parents are being sweet to each other.
“No one, Tuk. Eat your food.”
“It’s fishlips, isn’t it?” Lo’ak asks, swallowing his food first this time.
“What-? It is not.” Y/n huffs, glaring at the boy.
“Uhm, you look at him like he’s everything you could ever want, dude.” Kiri deadpans, not appreciating the blatant lying.
Y/n scoffs again, “What do you mean- I look at him like he’s everything I ever want?” She mocks the girl. “I call bullshit! Slander!” “Hey, language.” Her father butts in, his face anything but happy. “You’re not in love with the chief’s son, hear me?”
“I’m not!” Lo’ak giggles to himself, “Oh, she soooooo is.”
“Who were you even out with this morning?” Neteyam finally asks, glancing at his twin questioningly.
Y/n hesitates for a moment, “Uhm… Tsireya?” She tries, but her family gives her disbelieving looks.
“Right, and that’s why she came to our marui this morning asking if we knew where Ao’nung was?” Kiri asks with a raised brow.
There’s a pause, and Y/n sighs, “Fine, Rotxo.”
Lo’ak throws a piece of fish at Y/n, “Liar! I saw him this morning when I went to piss in a bush!”
Jake gives the boy a weird look, “TMI boy, TMI.” Normally, he’d be more irritated with Y/n than he is now. If it hadn’t been for Neytiri telling him the moment he awoke that she had allowed their eldest daughter to leave, he would have been. But he didn’t think this was deep enough to get into a fight with his mate over, so he let it go. If Neytiri thought she would be safe, then he trusts her judgment.
“Ew, I did not need to know that.” Y/n grimaces. “Maybe I was just alone.”
“Then why didn’t you just say that?” Kiri questions with a small grin.
“Also, we could hear fishlips and you talking before you came in.” Lo’ak settles it, a proud smile on his face for successfully grossing out his entire family.
Y/n sighs, “Okay, fine. I was with Ao’nung.”
Tuk giggles, looking up at her, “I like Ao’nung, he’s very nice to me, sissy.”
She smiles down at the girl, her heart warming a little, “Is he?” Tuk nods happily.
“What were you two doing?” Jake asks, pretending to just make conversation, when really he wants to know every detail of this outing. He wants to know if he needs to have a stern talking to with this boy.
A soft smile comes to face as she rethinks everything, and it doesn’t go unnoticed by anyone in the family, “We went to a big rock, and we climbed up. I got to show him how much better we are at climbing, and then he fell and almost died.” A range of emotion crosses her family’s faces.
“He what now?”
“I caught him, dragged him up onto the rock. And then we watched the sunrise and k-” She freezes, her face heating up. She swallows thickly. “He stood up, and told me to jump with him. It’s a thing they do, apparently. Cliff diving.”
“You jumped off a cliff with him?!” Jake does not like the sound of that.
Y/n nods, “Yep, that’s correct. It was so much fun, you guys would love it.” She looks at her brother’s with a grin.
“I wanna go cliff diving!” Tuk butts in urgently.
“Maybe once you are older, Tuk.” Her mother says gently, patting her head. Tuk frowns, but doesn't press.
“Then we came home.” Y/n continues. “No harm, no foul. No one is dead.”
Lo’ak grins, “Except maybe Ao’nung once I’m done with him.” He’s enjoying this reason to beat the boy up.
She raises a brow, “What?”
Lo’ak stands and stretches, moving towards the flap of marui, “I’m gonna beat the shit out of that boy.”
“Language!” Jake calls again, he’s not too worried about stopping the boy.
“What- wait, Lo’ak, sit down.” Y/n tries to get up, but Tuk stops her.
Neteyam sighs and stands, grabbing onto his brother’s hand and pulling him back to sit down, “No, Lo’ak. There’s no need to beat him up. Look at her.” He motions towards the girl, all heads turn to her, and she burns up under the attention. “When was the last time we’ve seen her this happy?”
“Woah- hey, guys, I’m a happy person-” Y/n tries, the embarrassment heavy. She wishes the ocean would pick her up and take her far, far away from this moment.
Lo’ak thinks for a moment, “A while, I guess.”
Neteyam nods in agreement, “Exactly. So if this fish boy is the one making her happy, we should be thankful. Even if he’s not particularly our favorite.”
Y/n is silent for a moment, smiling a little at Neteyam, “Well, now that that’s settled-”
“Are you going to have babies with him, sissy?” Tuk asks curiously, she loves babies.
Y/n almost explodes as Neteyam speaks again, “No, she won’t. That crosses a line. If he even tries, he’ll wish it was Lo’ak beating him up.”
Y/n gently pushes Tuk off of her and stands, “I’m leaving.”
“Sit down.” Her father commands, and she can’t help but comply. “Have you eaten?” He asks, completely disregarding the conversation at hand.
Y/n shakes her head, “Not yet, dad.”
He nods, “Great, then eat, babygirl. No more talk about babies, please. I’m too young to be a grandpa.”
Y/n groans, burying her head in her hands, “I want to die.”
Meanwhile, Ao’nung walks into his family marui with a newfound confidence, not that he was ever lacking that. He was surprised to see his family gathered there, as he expected everyone to be at the morning meal. All eyes land on him, and he gulps.
“Good morning, everyone.” He greets as Tsireya smiles at him. His mother, however, does not seem so happy.
“You were out with the forest girl.” She points out, her tone stern and irritated.
Ao’nung nods, lowering his eyes, “I was.” He saw no point in lying.
Tonowari steps forward, “Why didn’t you make anyone aware you were leaving?” His voice is much softer, less angry.
“I’m sorry, father. I wanted to show her the sunrise… you were all asleep. I saw no need in waking you.” He tries to subtly hide his hand behind his back.
His attempts prove to be futile as his mother walks forward, grabbing roughly onto his wrist and tugging his hand towards you, “She has hurt you!” She exclaims, tugging him to a place on the floor so she can wrap his hand properly. Tsireya glances over worriedly at her brother.
“No-no,” He defends the girl quickly. “No, mother, she saved me. We were climbing Taw Tskxe. It was raining and she tried to tell me a rock was slippery but I didn’t listen. I slipped, but she grabbed onto me and pulled me up. She saved me, mom.” He repeats. He can’t have his mother hating her, because he knows she has to get her way.
Her mother only glares at his hand, being rather rough as she picks out any grime. He hisses in pain at her lack of gentleness. His father rests his hand on the boy’s shoulder, kneeling down beside the two.
“Are you alright?” He asks softly, his “brows” drawn together.
Ao’nung nods, “Yes, dad. I am.”
“I do not want you with the girl alone again, Ao’nung.” His mother commands, wrapping his hand with seaweed.
“What-” He starts to protest, but his mother’s looks stops him.
“You’ve heard me.”
Tonowari sighs deeply, “Ronal, may we speak?”
Ronal angrily looks up, but doesn’t say anything. Tonowari gently leads his wife to the corner of the marui, speaking to her in a gentle tone that contrasts her aggressive one. Ao’nung already knows he won’t be listening to his mother, but he’s disappointed she’d tell him not to see her alone again. Tsireya steps in front of her brother, replacing her mother’s spot on the ground as she sits.
She smiles at him, her eyes soft, “You took her to see the sunrise, brother?” She asks quietly.
He can’t help but smile, “I did.”
Her grin widens, “You like her.”
Ao’nung rolls his eyes, “Oh, really? I didn’t notice.”
She laughs softly, her eyes sparkling. She’s so happy for her brother, “Will you court her?”
Ao’nung shrugs a little. He’d be lying if he said he hasn’t thought about it, “I’d have to win over her parents first… and apparently mom.”
She hums quietly, “Have you guys kissed?” She’s very much like Tuk in the sense that she loves love, more than anything.
Ao’nung’s face heats up, “Hey, butt out, that’s none of your business.”
If it’s possible, she seems to get more excited, “Awh! You did!”
“Oh, shut up.”
“Children.” The two look dutifully towards their father. “Go to morning meal.”
They nod and follow instructions, standing and leaving the marui. The walk there is silent, Tsireya trying to hide her giggles, especially as they have to walk past the Sully family’s marui. Ao’nung rolls his eyes, tugging her along. The two sit by their Rotxo once they arrive. Since Ao’nung has become friends with the Sully children, he’s taken into consideration how his other friends act, and if that’s truly who he wants to be influenced by. He decided no, and successfully dropped the other boys. He’s content with his sister, Rotxo, and the Sully’s.
“Rotxo, we have delightful news!” Tsireya grins happily as they sit next to the boy.
Rotxo smiles, “Goodmorning, ‘Reya, Ao’nung. What’s happened?”
“Ao’nung has kissed Y/n!” She giggles as Ao’nung shushes her, glancing around to see if anyone heard.
“Not so loud, ‘Reya.” He sighs, taking some food.
Rotxo’s eyes widen as he glances at Ao’nung, “Seriously, bro?” He pats his shoulder. “Good for you. Are you two courting now?”
Ao’nung shakes his head, “Mother doesn’t approve of her. She’s requested I don’t see Y/n alone again.” He eats his food.
Rotxo frowns, “Well, are you going to obey her?” Ao’nung gives him an obvious look. “Right, why would you?”
Tsireya sighs, “Mother will warm up to her, I’m sure. She’s warmed up nicely to Lo’ak!” A faint blush comes across her cheeks at the mention of the boy.
Ao’nung rolls her eyes, “The difference is I’m future Olo’eyktan. My mate matters, yours doesn’t.”
Tsireya pouts, “My mate matters.”
“But mine will likely be future Tsahik.” He shrugs. “Not that I don’t think Y/n would be a perfect Tsahik, it depends on how mother thinks. She’ll be the one training the girl, after all.”
Tsireya sighs and nods, “Yeah, I know.”
Rotxo speaks up, “Well, it’ll all work out how it’s supposed too.”
Ao'nung snorts, “Okay, Rotxo.”
The boy shrugs, “Would you rather me tell you that you'll never be able to be with the girl you obviously are like, in love with?”
Ao'nung shoots him a nasty look, “I'm not in love with her, and no. I wouldn't.”
Rotxo grins knowingly, “Perfeet, so- it was all work out how it's supposed to. How our Great Mother Eywa wills it to be.”
Ao'nung shakes his head as he eats, finding the younger boy stupid. However, he can't deny the silent pleas towards Eywa to make her will for him to be her. Tsireya and Rotxo share a look, matching grins on their faces. They've both known Ao'nung as long as they've been alive, and they've never seen him like this over a girl, let alone a Forest girl.
