Thinking about the eclipse today. Imagine a giant who doesn't know and gets panicked as the sun disappears. Grabs a human who hiked up a mountain to see it in an attempt to protect them. Awkward explanation that it's fine

Or a borrower who lives with a human that hangs out on their balcony a lot goes out and freaks cause again the sun is disappearing. Maybe they knock something down so the human notices them and the human is torn between the once in a lifetime eclipse and this little person looking thing having a panic attack

James: "Regulus, mate, ever tried the Jugulus position?" Regulus: "What's that?" James: "It's like trying to find a shooting star in the bedroom. Catch my drift?" Sirius (enters, annoyed): "I leave for five minutes, and you two start discussing constellations in the sheets?" Regulus: "It's just a joke, Sirius. Lighten up." James (grinning): "Yeah, lighten up, Padfoot. Not everything is as serious as you." Sirius (groans): "You two and your cosmic humor. I'm outta here." Cue James and Regulus sharing a cheeky glance as Sirius exits. 🌟😏 #NotForSiriusEyes

this popped on my dash again so thought I'd share my two cents this time.

I feel like something easy to get hung up on is interactions and similar stuff, but I would say make them normal. Two people arguing doesn't change, but the outcome does. Maybe someone was too loud, too honest or something like that. Maybe a normal movement caused fear or doubt. Don't make the interaction special, make the result special.

That goes for the awe folks feel too.

A person who's always been a few inches tall wouldn't suddenly marvel at the idea of small things, but small things that work in a setting that's not normal is new. A fairy seeing technology. Borrower seeing magic. Other things like that.

A giant that's never had a world fit them would have ways that suit them. Things that seem normal and might scare the humans around them. How they eat, how they move, get clean, live in general. Let that be what makes them terrifying. Not their size, not their personality, what it takes for them to exist.

A human meeting either is the one who, in most cases, has the most shock. How does a small person survive? Does this human understand it? Are they afraid the giant will kill them? Are they afraid of being a meal? Most importantly why.

I another way to say it is to make normal characters, put them in a situation, and look at results. Look at the whys and how comes. Don't focus too much on what should be happening. It's how you can make a line that's clever or feels good. People will argue the same, feel the same, regardless of size. The parts that matter is what they want at the end.

On the other hand think of what the characters want the result to be. When people try to push each other away they take use of what they've observed about the others. Insecurities and doubts. For example, a giant threatens a tiny to scare them, what would be good? Play on fears they might know about or have guessed. Has the giant noticed the tiny acts nervous near their hands, steps, when they eat? Use that.

Let things happen in a natural way. Let the size difference be something natural, casual.

This is a ramble and kind of a mess maybe. This is just how I take it all. Most of what I write I let the characters run in my head. Daydream about it when I'm bored or trying to sleep. I let things be natural. I put the characters together and run with how they'd always act.

This probably makes no sense all together but hope y'all enjoy my ramble.

I'd love to hear your best advice for writing G/t (or writing in general)!

I'm specifically curious about tips on complex plot building and character development, but man I'd be down for any advice!

How do you come up with clever lines?

How do you set up drama/angst?

How do you go about setting up an antagonist?

What literary devices do you like? How do you like using them?

Any and all advice is appreciated! I've been having so much fun writing and I'd love tips and feedback to improve my content 💖

It's now 7am i haven't slept so I'm subjecting tumblr to more random rambling. As my name implies i do feel awkward when i do this

ANYWAY

Started thinking about how tinies would react to giants who get described weird. Example of the write I've been told i have kitten hands (i asked once it's cause my hands are small and feel like a kitten paw apparently). Like what if they just hear the giants being like oh yeah my friend's gonna house sit or visit or something and this description is dropped.

The fear of a human with cat paws. Or if it's to like clear out candles they have a dog's sense of smell. Just apply a would description. Cold blooded, heartless, snake's eyes, etc. Descriptors taken literally and cause a very confusing meeting or period of time.

I'm going to do this eventually.

Alternatively describing the different size person with literal descriptors taken metaphorically (their bark is worse than their bite. Literally they bark louder than a jet plane but can't break skin with their teeth)

I might do this instead. We shall see which wins out first

Three Ships: Current day ships hmm. Y'shtola and Runar from ff14 are otp change my mind. I don't play much anymore but i did appreciate the zhongli/tartaglia ship and xiao/venti ships. I'll do a bonus for a series I'm still into Zagreus, Thanatos, and Meg from hades.

First Ship: probably basic Inuyasha and Kagome. First like non canon relationship oof that's going back like 14ish years to when i was still in middle school lol. I think I had some yugioh ships back in the day.

Last Song I Listened To: uhh not totally sure. Last one I can remember is On My Own by Caleb Hyles if not this just the In The Heights Movie soundtrack cause i have a problem lol

Last Movie I Watched: The Quick and The Dead. Old western was a lot of fun.

Currently Reading: Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson. Legit folks i love this series so much has some minor g/t stuff in it. This is the fourth book and the third was an emotional rollercoaster

Currently Watching: Does neverending kitchen nightmares count? what about friends playing demos on steam? For like an actual thing I'm watching Last of us with friends each week and pleasantly surprised so far

Currently Consuming: Diet coke and I had some ramen earlier (it's almost 11 pm lol might eat some popcorn though)

Currently Craving: uhhhhhh low key poutine. High key new york/new jersey pizza. I cannot find it since moving to canada and i would love that comfort food so much.

First Ship: Oh god I don't even know. Probably Link and Zelda from the Legend of Zelda, or Jessica and Angelo from Dragon Quest VIII?? That's the earliest I can remember rooting for as a small child, at least.

Currently Watching: Rewatching Lockwood and Co., weekly episodes of My Hero Academia, and Masterchef Season 12 just while I'm cooking. Recently finished the new season of Way of the Househusband.

Currently Consuming: Leftover vegetarian chili and vegan cornbread. Personally not vegetarian, but my partner is! (it was our first attempt at making it together and we didn't follow a recipe for the chili. And it was just so good).

Currently Craving: Like I was telling @ls-daydreams in this post Korean fried chicken.

Last night i was roped into playing pretend and since my brain is on gt family dynamics right now i had a thought.

Giant/human just chilling doing whatever when this absolutely miniscule little kid comes up and just recruits them into a game of pretend. The kid's parent coming along and seeing this massive being pretending to need the little kid's help to lift things and stuff like that

Running the newest final fantasy 14 alliance raid where a character becomes a straight up giant.

Me: this is my favorite fight for normal reasons

Two friends who know my sizey interests being the sarcastic assholes i love them for being: oh right normal sure
