we spend the entire show watching house do anything to treat his pain — he goes to (understandably) insane, destructive lengths just to ensure he never has to suffer being sober. his entire life is focused around a cycle of distraction, thrill-seeking, and avoidance. we know that his home is filled with hundreds upon hundreds of pills, so he can always prolong and maximise those moments where his agony is muffled. and yet, in the final scene, we see him dive head-on into the end, and despite this being the most gruelling, insurmountable prognosis of his entire life, we see him smile bathed in the sunlight; those muted tones are dauntingly lifted, yet there’s no echo of a bottle rattling.

The blacksmith hammer which I took in the carriage from Veresti was useful; though the doors were all open I broke them off the rusty hinges, lest some ill-intent or ill-chance should close them, so that being entered I might not get out. Jonathan's bitter experience served me here.

I wonder how Jonathan feels when he gets to read about this. Is it a kind of closure all its own? Van Helsing breaking down the doors that defeated him so long. Or does the very ease with which it happened rankle, somehow? Perhaps the mention of them simply hanging open and easily broken down after all he went through only to fail to ever escape through them feels almost like a mockery somehow.

Had I not seen the repose in the first place, and the gladness that stole over it just ere the final dissolution came, as realisation that the soul had been won, I could not have gone further with my butchery. I could not have endured the horrid screeching as the stake drove home; the plunging of writhing form, and lips of bloody foam. I should have fled in terror and left my work undone. But it is over! And the poor souls, I can pity them now and weep, as I think of them placid each in her full sleep of death for a short moment ere fading.

And what about this "butcher work"? Does reading about their final death - and the so-brief moment of peace before they dissolved - give Jonathan any sympathy for these demons he so feared and despised? Perhaps he remembers his thoughts of maidens writing love letters, and recalls his own thoughts about holiest love, and feels pity for them at last. Or maybe it's the opposite, and he feels nothing but savage satisfaction at their end, unable to pity any of the vampires who tormented him.

oc questions!!! 1 and 50 :)

1. Your first OC ever?

Ooooo I’m not 100% certain, but I think it was a pair of twins whose names I can’t remember. I wrote and illustrated a short story about them when I was in first (second? third?) grade. I remember that they got lost in the woods, ran away from a skunk, and rolled down a hill in a hollow tree log. I think it was probably inspired by my second grade woods explorations if I wrote it around that time.

Then I probably made a ton of warrior cat characters lol……. But I don’t have any of my old notebooks around and I don’t remember their names. I mostly just liked writing all the names down and designing them and then not doing anything with them.

Then later on I had a bunch of lacrosse/basketball guys, but none of them were really fleshed out characters. There was definitely some gay stuff happening with them but I didn’t write anything down so idk what it was!! Some of my earliest digital art + the one animation I made is of them:

SO basically, the only OCs I really actively have rn are from my HumanComp story. The main character is V-12 (pronounced Vetelki in the Anadmor language (the Anadmor are a militaristic imperial civilization that create Biocomposites like V-12, which are AIs installed in human bodies)). After 27ish years of ~tragic backstory~ Vetelki is disconnected from the Anadmor network via signal disruption, then some changes to their hardwiring (post being blown up, long story), by the people indigenous to the planet the Anadmor is currently trying to “settle” (colonize). They need Vetelki to be able to access the Anadmor network and collect evidence for their petition before the High Court (name pending) since the Anadmor were wrongfully given legal possession of the planet in a post-war treaty that the people on the planet literally had nothing to do with. At the point I’m at writing their story, Vetelki is dealing with being a person for the first time (sound familiar? lol….) and experiencing all the fun human emotions and sensations for the first time, since those were being suppressed by their original programming.
