If I had a nickel for every piece of media I know in which two of the main characters are a couple, the girl being a white/silver haired sassy sword fighting warrior, who shares profession with one of her parents, and the guy being a dumbass who still some how comes up with most of their plans, and has rare power, and who can sometimes see a part of this power, and it looks like him but more evil and they got together when the girl was blaming herself for something, guy saying that it wasn't her fault and her kissing him after, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

so I'm rereading Alcatraz Vs. the Evil Librarians (I last read this pre-covid) and I forgot how *funny* it is. Especially compared to, like, you know, the cosmere. It's like-

BrandoSandwitch writing the Cosmere: I will write an interconnected universe that is *so meticulous*

Branderson the Sanderson writing Alcatraz: so anyway, they opened the door to see small British dinosaurs about to be executed for being on the continent and failing to pretend to be beached fish.

Any Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians fans still out there? The series means a lot to me and I'd love to chat about it (I'm a minor, so please be mindful of that!)

Okay okay hear me out... but hypothetically frugal wizards handbook and Alcatraz could exist in the same universe. 

Spoilers for SSP2 worldbuilding under the cut

Ok I guess by the nature of this theory they don’t exist in the same universe but on the same plane of existence or whatever we want to call it

The key is bagsworth. Bagsworth the book author and publisher and (apparently) realm hopping wizard. Bagsworth who published Alcatraz’s novels, Bagsworth who pioneered inter dimensional travel

At the end of Frugal Wiz Book in the after word Branderson talks about how bagsworth is an inside joke character, this book publisher who just pops up every once and a while. He’s not Hoid, he doesn’t mean anything world building wise...

unless....

In Frugal Wiz they talk about how the dimension the story takes place in is the only one so far that has been discovered to have magic. John/Runian and co can travel to this dimension since it’s a branch off of theirs, the dimension they come from ‘has more substance’ or whatever, so no one in Not Quite Viking land can move up the dimension stream to Runion’s world. 

So sure, NotVikingland is the only realm with magic. Unless the Alcatraz realm just... has more substance than JohnRunion’s home dimension. Exists further up the dimension stream. So John and co would have no way of knowing it existed, but it’s there. and some alternate upstream other dimension version of Bagsworth published Al’s books. Once a book publisher always a book publisher. 

Or, you know, the librarians (and Bagsworth, apparently, who was still middle aged in 2080...) are just still kicking in Johnian’s world and these dimension hopping scientists are just blind to the fact that there’s magic in their own dimension. not sure which is funnier

The marching band AU nobody asked for: AVTEL edition!

(All of these are based on kids who were in my band at some point. Some of them are gonna be the future of the kid and some of them are the past and some of them are now. Guess which one(s) is/are me! Pronouns will not help u because they’re adjusted to the character)

Alcatraz: that one confused freshman who went to a school with no extracurriculars and plays by ear most of the time, thusly forgetting to read the music when he has ten measures of rest during a song and playing the melody really loudly when he’s not supposed to. Broke his instrument right before his first ever competition and couldn’t play D’s for an entire season

Bastille: the sophomore who’s only section leader because she’s the oldest. She terrifies everyone, including the previous year’s seniors

Kaz: the kid who signed up as clarinet and then changed his mind halfway through the season and now plays tenor sax. (Ironically this kid in my band is actually really tall but gives off a LOT of Kaz vibes)

Shasta: the No-nonsense section leader who lowkey ruins the fun of band for everyone

Dif: has his flute at a 45-degree downward angle and STILL tells everyone else to keep their flutes up

Quentin: The Jack-of-all-trades instrumentalist who uses his prowess to play meme songs every chance he gets

Aydee: The singluar trumpet in the band. Somehow plays really quietly and everyone assumes she can’t play her instrument. She agrees.

Australia: the very British drumline kid who has perfect pitch but for some inconceivable reason chose to play drums instead of an instrument where that’s actually useful. (Very rarely plays mallet percussion)

Pattywagon: the chaotic gremlin flute who the teacher always asks to play stuff as an example but adamantly refuses to ever be section leader

Sing: one of two drum majors, and thusly the only one called drum major

Draulin: other drum major, called “drum minor” which she hates with a burning passion. People wish her happy birthday every day because her birthday was during band camp.

Grandpa Smedry: he’s either the kid who ALWAYS arrives exactly ten minutes late to early morning practices without fail OR the band director who everyone thinks of as a second dad and makes as many puns as he can. I can’t decide.
