the sims 4 and minecraft are both perfect examples of why indie developers and indie games are better.

lets take a look at minecraft before mojang bought it. updates were faorly regular and a fair amount was added in each major update, things that are now necessary for the game to be what it is. think, beetroot, baby zombies, the nether, different colored blocks, avillager trading system. they did all of this with very minimal funding, just two guys and maybe later on a small team as well. the community was small but the dev team still listened.

now lets look at minecraft *after* mojang. Updates are yearly, but most of them leave the fandom disappointed at best and furious at worse. every update is extremely half baked, if that. promised features are barely even a sliver of whats promised. Nothing that was added early on is updated despite it very much needing to be. they actively mock the fans and refuse to give them what they want (the constant mocking and jokes about the moobloom and the phantom, constantly refusing to give certain additions. outright stating things people have wanted since the beginning will never be added). they spend a good portion of their budget on offshoot games that no one plays, like dungeons and legends (which was barely even active for a year brfore they pulled it.) instead of on the main game with loads of issues.

and now lets look at the sims. which is like mojang minecraft on crack. it's a running joke that ea builds are laughably fucking bad. not adding toilets, never ANY lights in any of the builds, wide empty rooms, etc. most of the dlcs are half baked as well, most of them being extremely small and useless like all of the kits. yes. all of the kits. You'll never hear anyone say "this pack has everything i wanted!" because it never does. there is always a problem, some extreme bug or some deficiencies.

now lets look at minecraft and sim modders, who very regularly push out fully developed mods with so many levels of depth, so many swatches, so many options, so much attention to detail. you have these people doing this FOR FREE.

meanwhile mojang and ea are billion dollar companies.

Not to be a furry but I wish there was a way to play as an animal in animal crossing.

I think the best way to do this, and still keep that you’re the human mayor of an animal town, is with transformations

Maybe, similar to the outfit wands, there are wands for different animals. Like, you can craft a bear cub wand and “play” as a bear cub but still technically be human

That would also fix the issue that animals can’t wear pants. In the Able Sisters’ store, Mabel can say that you can’t change while transformed like she does with outfit wands, so you don’t have to worry about buying pants you can’t wear or something

For the animals’ looks, I’m thinking the eyes, nose, and mouth will look the same and just carry over to the right location (so avillager with the rubberhose eyes will become a rhino with rubberhose eyes on the sides of their head) unless it doesn’t apply (a rhino wouldn’t have a triangle nose on its snout). I think the hair color should become the body color, because fur and because hair has way more color options

To be even more customizable, hair style changing some other aspects of villagers would be interesting (ie a ponytail translating to a deer with antelope horns and a buzz cut translating to a deer with moose antlers)
